Invincible #64: The final part of the Conquest story arc was another balls to the wall action filled issue. If you thought the blood and gore couldn’t possibly have been amped up any more you, good sir or madam, were incorrect. This is just all out brutality (very much deserved mind you). Invincible, after seeing his girlfriend Atom Eve killed last issue, pulls no punches as he sets out to put an end to Conquest’s tyranny once and for all by using any means necessary. During the course of the final battle Invincible, to his surprise and ours, gets a much needed helping hand to help turn the tide in his favor and finishes off Conquest once and for all by using the Headbutt from Hell…repeatedly.
Just like last issue something big happens that I do not want to spoil for those who have yet to read it. Let’s just say that it made me very, very happy indeed. Also Ryan Ottley’s art is as perfect as ever in the issue and with the help of Cliff Rathburn this is always easily one of the best looking comics every month.
Green Lantern #44: This book picks up the story of Hal Jordan and Barry Allen’s meeting with the Martian Manhunter which was seen in Blackest Night #1. Much like Invincible, this is an all action issue where we are let in on, somewhat confusingly, some of the Black Lanterns powers. There are points where it looks like Hal and Barry are being infected by the Black Light. I am assuming this is happening because both characters were dead and have recently rejoined the land of the living but no real explanation is given as to what is really transpiring. Elsewhere in the book things get worse for the Guardians on Oa as they are all subdued by Scar, the black rings are finding there way across the universe to find recipients and the story ends in the resurrection of a Lantern’s lost love.
The story moves at a brisk pace while Doug Mahnke works his magic on art yet again. My only complaint with this issue, beside an explanation not being given to Hal and Barry’s reaction to the Black Light, is that there were four inkers on this book so the art seemed a bit uneven at times. Still a solid effort though from Geoff Johns and Mahnke.
Dethklok vs. The Goon One-Shot: If you like Metalocalyse, The Goon, Dethklok, Royal inbreeding, dumplings, retard jokes, Rockzo The Rock n’ Roll Clown, guerrilla marketing, sorcery, metal, brutality, exploding heads, booze, costume parties, peaches valentine, cocaine, GILFs, Victorian-Era butt plugs, gummy blow jobs, walnuts, cannibalism and violence up the wazoo then you are going to fucking love this comic. If not you may just think that it’s ok.
Gotham City Sirens #2: Really no overt sexism in this issue so it’s already better than the first one. Guillem March’s art is still a bit too cheesecakey at times but Dini’s writing keeps it from getting out of hand. Looks like Dini is picking up where he left off in Detective Comics as far as Catwoman screwing over Thomas Elliot a.k.a Hush by stealing his family fortune. The story is getting interesting so I’ll be checking out the next couple Issues at least.
