The Hollywood Reporter is…um…reporting today that there are three frontrunners left for the role of Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern film. Those three individuals are: Bradley Cooper (Wet Hot American Summer), Ryan Reynolds (Waiting) and Justin Timberlake (WTF!?)

Is it me or does one of those names just not belong? Though it is well known that Geoff Johns is a huge ‘N Sync fan, this is just F’N ridiculous. I think I can safely say that if Justin Timberlake gets the nod then the “Green Lantern Movie Panel” at San Diego Con may not be ending in a huge celebration with DC and company patting themselves on the back for making such a brilliant choice. No, I don’t see things there ending well at all.

(UPDATE): Looks like Ryan Reynolds has landed the role. And comic fandom lets out a collective sigh of relief.

Reynolds is Jordan

  1. Chris - CSTATB says:

Ryan Reynolds is always going on about being Deadpool again in a Deadpool film so would they want him to be both? Why not David Boreanaz like in the Cartoon. Also I thought Common was meant to be playing John Stewart in a Green Lantern film?

  2. Variant Girl says:

This is just crazy shit, if Justin Timberlake plays Hal Jordon, then I say it’s finally time to stop making movies based on comic books…Yikes!

BTW great job J.M love the site 😛

  3. StevieEvs says:

Brad at least looks the part what with the floppy hair and all.
I would love to see Captain Mal in the role, that fan trailer was awesome.

Honestly though, I can’t see it being up to much, not many people know who the GL is (compared with Bats, Supes, Spidey) and just think of all that CGI going on as a crutch instead of a script.

Then again, I’m Welsh, we complain about everything.

  4. Pobra says:

i really don’t see how they plan on pulling off a GL movie. StevieEvs is right, the amount of CGI they will no doubt drown the film in will be a huge turn off, at least for me. Fucking can’t stand over-the-top CGI. And if what you say is true and Timberlake lands the role of Hal…. fuck.

  5. Aaron E says:

Well… Reynolds is better than Timberlake so I’m happy! Why in the world would they consider Timberlake as GL?

  6. Zcorp79 says:

Ryans Reynolds getting the part took me by surprise at least, because not once did I have any idea that he was in the running. I always heard Bradley Cooper or others, I only heard that Reynolds was in the running for the Flash role and not the Green Lantern role.
