Under the Sea

Though I have seen most of Hayao Miyazaki’s animated films I have yet to see one in a movie theater. Hopefully that will change this coming week.

Also, how about a bonus Question of the Week:

What is your favorite Miyazaki film?

Mine? My Neighbor Totoro.

i know it’s probably one of his more “mainstream” films, but I’ve always been very partial to Spirited Away. Words can not describe the glory that is Spirited Away.

  2. Dan Griffin says:

    I like Howls Moving Castle

  3. kurumais says:

    i like them both
i havent seen a miyazaki movie i havent liked
just noticed this flick in paper today
    hope to make time soon

I swear, I’m the only uber-geek who can’t stand his films… All my friends try to convince me to sit down with them and “really watch” the movies

Even got into an argument with some Dickinson College students when I worked at a Wal Mart. Their exact words were “Well we’re Sophomores, we’re just thinking on a level a little above you.” My response of course was polite and respectful. “Awww, it thinks its opinions matter to someone who already has a degree.” They left in a huff.

    • I have a friend who feels the same as you about Miyazaki’s films so you are not alone in your opinion. To each their own. I don’t think I could ever be pretentious enough to tell someone “they just don’t get it.” That’s such a ‘cop out’ way of debating a subject.

Oh well. I love some movies which are quite horrible. Thank god that have lil shadows at the front of the screen making fun of them. I couldn’t even imagine a RiffTrax for Spirited Away…

has anyone seen english version? how is it? i was going to see it until i got a copy of japanese cast but i thought howls moving castle was very good in english and im pretty sure i remember spirited away being very good in english as well

  7. howl’s moving castle was the one that got me hooked, so i guess i could call that my fav. i also love laputa: castle in the sky…i’ve seen everything from nausicaa onwards except for kiki’s delivery surface an ponyo – they’re all pretty great.
