Invincible Vol 11

This week’s question:

Who are 5 of your favorite current comic book artists?

For this question I want to limit the answers to artists who are currently working on a monthly book. Five of my favorites in no particular order:

J.H. Williams III (Detective Comics)
Ryan Ottley (Invincible)
Patrick Gleason (Green Lantern Corps)
Frank Quitely (Batman and Robin)
Stefano Caselli (Secret Warriors)

The above pic is from Ryan Ottleys’ Deviant Art page. Check it out if you haven’t.

  1. comicbookdude89 says:

Agh! Why did you constrict this to Top 5?!?!? For current artists on a current monthly book, eh? I’m gonna have to say, in no particular order:

    Mark Bagley (Batman)
    Doug Mahnke (Green Lantern)
    J.H. Williams III (Detective Comics)
    Ryan Ottley (Invincible)
    Stefano Caseli (Secret Warriors)

I would say Ed McGuinness but Loeb’s writing ruins the art for me… and yes Ottley’s Deviant Art page is in the category of: Awesomeness!!!

Great question, seems a lot of the same artists are getting a lot of love. Here’s my five:

Gary Frank – I think he’s just the best.
J.H. Williams III – So many different styles, all amazing. Really pushing bounderies
David Aja – His work just looks so cool and lean (He worked on DD #500 so thats why I included him though not really on a currently monthly title, so is that a cheat?)
Ivan Reiss – The best for superhreo’s
ARIEL OLIVETTI – For when your comic book hero needs serious muscles. Plus I think he is the best with the digital style drawings.

Honorable mention: Andy Kubert – Prob my fav artist of all time, but seems to only mostly do covers lately.

    • Saar says:

Aja’s previous work look better, im my opion, then his corrent one ( issue 16 of Iron Fist for exsample), but still he is one of the best artist out there and Marvel, being has stupid has it is, doesn’t give him his on series. to draw.

  13. MANACONDA! says:

wesley craig (guardians of the galaxy)

    stefano caselli (secret warriors)

    clayton crain (x force)

ariel olivetti (cable, or he was until the most recent issue)

    stuart immonen (new avengers)

    honourable mentions to:

leinil yu, john paul leon, gabriel ba, fabio moon, adi granov, alex maleev and others who i cant remember this second, but most certainly do not include rob liefeld.
