Holy Shit: Disney Buys Marvel

I woke up quite late today and this was the first thing I saw:

Disney Acquires Marvel – UPDATED

Didn’t see that coming. I’m sure we will be talking about this more in the weeks to come.

get ready for deadpool: merc with a mouse!

  2. kurumais says:

holy crap does this mean wolverine and spidey will be in the next kingdom hearts?

  3. thetum says:

Howard the Duck Vs Donald Duck

  4. Smallaniac says:

I flipped out when I saw the news. I’m afraid that Disney, who isn’t all that involved in the print media, will try and move some characters to primarily a movie/tv show/ video game format. This of course ends the debate that comics are just for kids. Now their just for kids and toddlers. I don’t read the mature line, but I guess I won’t have the option too anymore. Unless Disney allows Marvel to operate like it has, which they won’t, it could get much harder for writers and illustrators to get onto titles, which could be good if that mean no more BMB or Jeph Loeb. Finally, I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney accidentally runs Marvel characters into the ground to make as much money as they can. Time will tell but it’s not looking good for what was Timely comics in my opinion.

Dark Reign ends with a 2 y/o boy running up to Osbourne and giving him a hug. He then opens a hotel for sick kittens in NYC.

  6. Chris says:

I don’t think it’ll effect the comics… Well, aslong as Marvel still keeps in autonomy. Its bound to effect the film and animation side of Marvel, which I think might suffer (though they’ve only made about 3 good films anyway!). My main problem is that Disney is an evil corporation. They probably only wanted a new way to compete with WB.

    • Chris says:

Also (sorry about posting twice) don’t Boom! Studios own a load of Disney comic licenses? It’ll be a shame if they loose them.

      • Boom JUST got the license this year. They are currently publishing Pixar related comics and are doing a great job. Next month Boom is releasing Uncle Scrooge, Donald and Mickey comics.

I hope Boom will be continue to put out Disney comics. I think it would hurt the company if they didn’t.

Every one is freaking out. Look at Pixar, Disney owns them and they don’t mess with em. Disney takes a hands off approach and i think the comics will continue as they are. Rember Disney was the one who released Pulp Fiction so i think its pretty safe to say the comics wont be affected in terms of adult content and censorship. DC has been owned by Warner Bros. since 69′. Plus we might get some Marvel/Pixar movies.

  8. Locusmortis says:

Oh come on, look at the corporate hoops that writers and editors have to jump through with the multiple layers of DC/Warner bros beaurocracy. It almost drove dwayne mcduffie crazy.

A mega-corporation buying out a mini-corporation is never a good thing in my opinion. Disney are one of the prime movers of the eternal pushing out of the maximum term that characters can be copyrighted for….when does Mickey mouse go public domain eh? hmmm?

I think we can finally say goodbye to the chance of Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Don heck, Bill Everett et al getting “Created by” status on the comics let alone get a fair share of the income from characters they created or co-created.

Many of these comments are being made in jest, as will be many more to follow, no doubt, and that’s fine. Let us not forget however, the shlocksters that Marvel can be…I have no doubt that Marvel is working already on some variation of the comments made and the comments yet to come. Marvel is real pander(y) that way. After all, just remember…one of Marvels’ many highs in lows was to undercut Image, who I believe already had their Obama issue in the can, but Marvel being forever anal, rushed their crappy Spidey book out so that they could say…….1st!!!

Until Antman makes a play for Tinkerbell,
    make mine Minnie…………knight0ut

  11. kurumais says:

ill be intersted in seeing what happens with marvels movie studio and projects. also will marvel cartoons start turning up on the disney channel ? and hopefully this will kick marvel video game projects up a notch. after seeing what a great game batman AA gave us i dont want to see anymore more crappy super hero video games.

  12. thetum says:

If Disney releases the movies on a Disney owned company then it would defeat the purpose of having a Marvel Studios. I don’t think they’ll get involved and ruin there money making opportunities.

  13. Variant Girl says:

    Disney is the Devil !!!

  14. thecomicrant says:

    Marvel is a sellout. πŸ˜›

I wrote a little about it on my blog.

  15. kurumais says:

miley cyrus as the wasp in the avengers movie

  16. Dan Griffin says:

It could be good, this means Marvel won’t worry about Canceling titles so fast as they use too. Captain Britian might get another shot. Also i heard Pixar is already talking with some big wigs at Marvel and that there excited about the posabiltys of a Marvel/Pixar films. Runaways, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Whizard of Oz done in the style of Skottie Young are just some of the films i think would look cool as a Pixar film. I heard that Pixar is trying to make some more adult friendly films so what a way to do that then let it be a Marvel film.

  17. Zcorp79 says:

I really do not believe that anything will change with Marvel, I mean Disney owes a lot of other properties that continue with business as usual. I think that until more info is given, we all need to remember one thing, would Disney really want to ruin how Marvel does it’s business?

  18. kurumais says:

    zac efron as steve rodgers

  19. Matthew Guy says:

    Marvel becames Disney Zombies.

No more DC vs Marvel crossovers I am guessing.

Hope it gives Marvel the $$$ to make the movies it wants in the next few years w/ the proper treatment of each film.

The mouse owns the spider (man).

    That’s All Folks!!!
