Here’s the solicitation for New Avengers Annual #3:

WRITER: Brian Michael Bendis
ARTIST: Mike Mayhew
COVER: Mike Mayhew

Clint Barton is in custody and that leaves not only Barton’s life in severe jeopardy but all the New Avengers are at serious risk. So the ladies of the Avengers band together to do what they have to do in a double-sized blockbuster Avengers story with a startling new chapter in the life of Jessica Jones. Brought to you by Brian Michael Bendis and artist extraordinaire Mike Mayhew. Rated T

PRICE: 4.99

Is there anyone more qualified to tell this story? I think not. Fanboys love, and I mean LOVE, the way Bendis portrays females in his comics. Nobody has proven time and time again how much respect they have for women characters in comics more than Brian Michael Bendis.

Oh wait…

Unfortunately, I’m pretty certain Bendis will continue showing us exactly what he thinks of the female characters of the Marvel Universe in the most unacceptable of ways. If he should somehow be able to keep his fanboy fantasies out of the script for this issue it will still not make up for all of his past transgressions. I’m sure that it will just mean that his editors are just growing tired of his misogyny. But who am I kidding. Marvel’s editors have never had the audacity to tell Bendis what is and is not acceptable and I really don’t think they will be starting now. It seems that the “boys club” mentality will always reign supreme at Marvel and the industry is worse because of it.

I suspect they’ll have to jump off of a trampoline, make out with eachother to distract guards (“They’re using their sexuality as a weapon, it’s empowering!”), listen to Spider Woman bitch about how she’s been screwed over the most of any person ever in the Marvel U (Take a look at Sharon Ventura sometime, Bouncy McJugglefun)and finally waters going to drench them.

Imagine what good writers would do with that combo. I admit my first Spiderwoman comic was Avengers Annual 10, but I was intrigued by her powers, personality and backstory. Then she promptly lost her powers. Then they brought her back I thought “Oh kool”. Then I read the drek she was in and had to walk away. Warbird, I’m sorry, but I kinda only like her when Busiek is writing her. Mockingbird? SO awesome in a good writers hands. She’ll prolly be killed off in a few issues by Bendis.

Such potential wasted. Like the FF/X-Men annual. Torch and Cannonball hustle Logan and Thing. So much potential wasted by having the rest of the story in there.

There are so many reasons not to buy this comic, that my brain is having trouble processing the fact that it even exists. When does this $4.99 pile of ass come out? I hope you plan on reviewing it J.

New Avengers.Meh. Mike Mayhew. Meh. Brian Michael Bendis writing New Avengers. Meh. I’ll wait till I see this for a dollar or 50 cents. I did like UCSM#3 though… go ahead think less of me…

  4. Chris says:

Did you see Blair Butler’s interview with Bendis on the Fresh Ink Blog Jose? He seemed like such a great guy…

i wonder how bendis’s sex life is like writing this crap….0_0

  6. Dirtydozen says:

That page with Sentry ripping off Morgana Le Fay’s head is just horrendous. Who would even think of doing that? Just fuckin terrible. Bendis is a real misogynist.

    • Luiz de Mello says:

What is more horrendous is that it is only to show how the Sentry(zor) is cool(zor), but anyone with the speed and willingness to kill can do that to that version of her, she is a powerful magician, but still human level resistance (and who had no apparent magic shield, go figure). In fact Moonstone does blow her head too in the same arc, in a much cooler and smarter way, but she gets a very small panel.

  7. Morlock50 says:

Man, what’s the deal with Luke Cage kicking Electra in the crotch? Is that the famous Bendis humor I keep hearing about? And having that done to one of the greatest supporting characters in the history of comics, too. He should be ashamed of himself.
