6 of 5

And I thought fanboys were all getting screwed over by Marvel when they decided to release the Who Will Wield the Shield one-shot after the END of the Captain America: Reborn miniseries. I guess the five issue miniseries didn’t actually end at #5. Silly me.

CAPTAIN AMERICA REBORN #6 (of 6)
Written by ED BRUBAKER
Pencils & Wraparound Cover by BRYAN HITCH
Cover by JOHN CASSADAY
Variant Cover by JOE QUESADA
The story so big we needed another issue to finish it! The return of Captain America! The fight for the body and soul and mind of Steve Rogers! Avengers versus the Red Skull and his cronies! The biggest finale of the year is finally here! Brought to you by Ed Brubaker, Bryan Hitch and Butch Guice!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

So, how do you feel about initially being committed to buy a five issue miniseries that now necessitates you to ALSO buy a one-shot AND a sixth issue to get the full story? Get the lube ready fanboys. This assfuck from Marvel is gonna be extra deep.

J.

Thanks to CCW reader djsweet for bringing this to my attention.

  1. Manaconda! says:

    disapointing. fuck you marvel.

its not like we dont already know ‘who will wield the shield’ just by looking at the siege covers. although i suppose its premature to assume.

  2. Matthew Guy says:

I didnt like it went Flash Rebirth went from 5 to 6 issues & I dont like this news of this series going from 5 to 6 issues + a one shot on top of that. Plus for shits & no giggles starting w/ Cap 602 the title goes to $3.99 but includes a Nomad backup feature. Once Cap Reborn & one shot is over so am I with Brubaker & Captain America.

I’m damn sick & tired of the Marvel fuck over. It’s like Jose said in Last Rants Marvel finds new ways to fuck you over as customers but not in a good way at all.

    Matthew

  3. Locusmortis says:

This is just another example of plain bad writing as well. A writer should be able to more than pack enough story into 5 issues.

Especially as Reborn is basically just a recap of the last 50 issues or so of the main ($2.99) cap title. Reborn is so full of padding that it is disgraceful. I liked Brubakers first 40 issues or so of Cap but I’m getting fucking sick of this ultra-decompressed style of writing.

  4. generaldark says:

this pisses me the F off guys. i think joe Q just wanted to draw a cover but it was to late for the original 5 covers so he wanted brubaker to make one more issue so he cant get his art on a HISTORICAL EVENT!!!! teehee. but yea marvel once again bein the whore that it is hit me with a $3.99 price tag on iron man and thunderbolts! fuck them! i had to only get iron man because i couldnt afford to get both. if the 3.99 is permanent for iron man then im dropping that and it was one of there best titles to.

  5. alatriste says:

Ok, now THAT is taking decompression way too far. We are rapidly going from the era of decompressed comics to the era of ridiculously overstretched comics. When I read an old issue of OMAC or the New Gods and see all the stuff ol’ Jack Kirby was able to fit in ONE issue I think he must be turning in his grave. What I would like to know is if this was one of Joe Quesada’s bright ideas to surprise readers or if it was just Brubaker realizing at the last minute that he couldn’t fit the story in the five issues he was given.

  6. djsweet says:

So as if going from a five issue mini to a 7 issue mini wasnt bad enough, what order are they even to be read in? So after issue #5 is the one shot, then #6 the next month. Does the one shot take place After the end of the mini, thus spoiling the ending a month early and negating the need for the 6th issue? Or does it take place during the mini and brake up the story with a different artist? Or does it take place outside of the story and is completely meaningless? I was done with Bru’s incessant padding early into The Death of Cap story and I’m gladly calling 601 my last issue of Cap monthly. I’m sure ill pick up this garbage VERY CHEAP down the road. Cap is my favorite BTW so im not quick to drop the title either.

  7. Pobra says:

*** drops pants, bends over, grits teeth and prepares for penetration ***

  8. Ironmuskrat says:

Wow, so how will the sixth issue be numbered? Issue six of six I assume. Reprints will have the corrected numbering in the future, but will that make issues that have the five of five more valuable from a collectors standpoint?

I can see some knucklehead like me going to a comic convention some day and buying up five issues of the limited series and scratching their head.. “this is weird, I have all five issues, but the ending sucks, nothing is resolved!”

    IM

  9. well brubaker did the same thing on incognito, so it’s not entirely unexpected, and if you’re enjoying the series i doubt you consider yourself assfucked…

i’m more pissed about committing to buying a three issue series called ‘pretty baby machine’ from an independent publisher and only having one issue come out – i bought that issue in good faith and the story never got finished! it barely got started!

  10. Deemar says:

I don’t mind it as much, it’s the price point that pisses me off.

Bryan Hitch as great as he is isn’t worth damn near $5.00 freaking DeNiros an issue.

  11. Deemar says:

Oh and I gotta say god I love John Cassaday covers, his Cap is stunning

  12. MicahSkin says:

When a story is popular enough you do this. However, all I see on the internets and googles is people bitching about how awful it is (As they keep buying it). So it obviously ain’t stellar.

Were forums abuzz with people absolutely clamoring for another issue in this? Heck, most people say it coulda been done in 2 issues, why add more?

  13. Chris says:

Brubaker’s doing this all the time… Incognito was meant to be 5 issues.

  14. TheComicRant says:

The only interesting this about this or Cap in general is John Cassady’s covers. (:

  15. kurumais says:

could somebody please tell me when i’m going to get my favorite character’s title back?

  16. David says:

the only reason they did it is that so some people can choose to have him dead in their collection while some people wont get it and choose not to.

me, i like the Cap, but im not a Self Titled Subscriber to him or anything.

  17. Variant Girl says:

Jose you summed it up with ASSFUCK bro. Marvel does it again, am not surprised Fanboys will buy anything Marvel pushes.

  18. JGC says:

This is really upsetting. Not really sure how the comic writing process works but it seems that a writer should have a general idea of how many pages it will take to complete a story. To me it seems that they knew they were going to do this from the start but decided to make the announcement late so that those who had already committed to finishing the series would be forced to buy one more issue. I understand that Marvel is running a business but these types of gimmicks only drive away fans (like this one).

  19. kurumais says:

my LCS says numbers are starting to drop. he said spider woman #1 sold outin a couple of dys number 2 is just sitting there im sure that will tickle some funny bones.
also chris sotomayer the colorist on the nomad rikki barnes series said that will become the back up story in cap when the title resarts. not a good match besides the characters connection from heroes reborn. brubackers style of story and characterization are nothing like mackeevers. nomad seems more like an all ages marvel adventures book then a regular marvel.

  20. kurumais says:

btw i just noticed caps monthly title starts up again the same month as this book release and a month AFTER who will wield the shield. cap 602 solits hit the net and pretty much spoiled
what little suspense was left with the whole thing about steve coming and status of the cap title etc nice job on continuity and timing marvel
