I love “ULTRAVIOLET”, Jose! It’s a glorified B-Movie, that everyone else seems to hate! But I love it.

    • I love it too. Can’t tell you how many times I have defended this movie.

Did you ever read about the shit Kurt Wimmer had to go through to make it? His original cut for the movie was just under two hours. Sony then took it away from him, did their own edit and threw it out into theaters with an 80 minute run time. The novelization (based on Wimmer’s original script) was really good. You should check it out of you can find it.

Ya, I was never a big fan of Ultraviolet, didn’t quite do it for me. Now, Equilibrium on the other hand… I would say that it’s on par with The Matrix in terms of really good, sort of high concept, Sci-fi action. They really are quite similar in many ways, can’t decide which one I like more.

    • I saw Equilibrium in the theater the day it opened and went back the next day to see it again. The marketing for it was next to nothing. I remember it being shelved for a while because of the Columbine shootings. I am really glad I got to see it in the theater though.

“The marketing for it was next to nothing” I know!!
I had no idea this movie even existed until a friend of mine told me that I had to come over to his place and watch it. He has an awesome projector in his basement and a killer sound system, so it was kind of like seeing it at the theater, but I’m still jealous!

Ultraviolet was bad on a Uwe Boll level. Along with Aeon Flux, Ultraviolet is a textbook example of a really bland Sci-Fi Action movie.

why do lead woman in movies have to dress like sluts?

Thanks for posting the Equilibrium clips Jose. I had no idea this movie was out there, and I am a guy that prides himself on watching anything sci-fi that comes down the pipe. Watching the clip I was like “Is that Christian Bale? How the fuck did I miss this one?” Hopefully I can Q this one in Netflix.

Ultraviolet was a good bad movie, I know that sounds like a rip, but its not, it was very much in the style of a lot of the action movies coming out of Asia these days. Emphasizing visuals, effects and stylize fighting. I think a lot of people went into it expecting the Matrix, but it is not that type of movie and wasn’t trying to be the Matrix.

I would be very curious to see the original cut of the movie, does anyone know if it exist out there?

    IM

    • The same guy, Kurt Wimmer, wrote and directed both of these movies. And to my knowledge there is no director’s cut to Ultraviolet. There is an “extended” cut on dvd that has about 9 extra minutes that wasn’t in the theatrical version that helps fix some of the story inconsistencies and fleshed out Violet’s origin a little more. The dvd version also has a couple of scenes that were edited a bit different and some alternate dialogue that was changed from the theatrical version.

I don’t know how you have been able to miss out on Equilibrium for this long. That is quite the mystery.

If this is the movie that I remember where some kid was like the key to something, then yeah, it was alright. Kinda like Resident Evil ( zombi-less ) mixed w / an updated version of the original Tron.

I have been wanting to check out Ultraviolet, I have been a fan of Milla Jovovich since The Fifth Element. ALso I really need to check out Equilibrium because every one I know that mentions that movie really likes it.

OT a bit anyone watching flashforward on abc? what do you think?
dollhouse this week boy did that show get a whole lot darker in a hurry

  10. Deemar says:

Ultraviolet was a pretty craptastic movie, but I did enjoy the visuals and the “fold space” concept was cool.

Violet’s whole look was great also, but Mila Jovich in anything is nice
