It has been a long weekend for me personally. I’m currently way more tired than I should be. I still need to edit a review or two for the blog so I can post them in the next day or so. In the meantime here is another open thread so you guys can ask questions or simply talk about whatever you would like to talk about.
J.
i for one would not like for DC to mke nother green lntern book, IMO it will be like the bt books nd x books, completely unnecssery
my “a” button does not work
I just thought you was typing in ebonics
Don’t sweat it dude. It’s like a puzzle.
I’m wary of another GL title, but Tomasi is writing it so that at least means the quality won’t go down.
I hope DC doesn’t ‘X-Menize’ the Green Lantern books, just look at the state of the X-men in general it’s no longer the powerhouse it used to be.
I’m concerned that the GL books are going to be like The Avengers where it seems like there are a thousand titles and they start to confuse people who are casual fans and scare off new comic readers.
You have a very good point there Stamps.
J.
As long as Johns and Mankee stay on GL, and that focuses on Hal Jordan, I’ll be fine. Isn’t the third book about Guy Gardner?
Yeah the new GL book is going to be about Guy.
Guy, Kilowog and Arisia going on a secret mission for Atrocitus…and Hal ain’t too happy bout it.
I fucking hate that every time a book or character achieves a certain level of success, the sheer glut of the industry chews them up and spits them out in a giant wad of mediocrity. We had a good thing going with GL, but after Blackest Night I fear it will fall down the same rabbit hole as x-men, wolverine and deadpool. Over saturation has been the downfall of many once great titles and characters. Also, I’m too drunk to properly edit this post, so I apologize for its contents. HOORAY FOR FAMILY DAY!!!
E&J I’d still like too see you guys do an episode about what/how you’d tackle certain characters or books at the big 2.
Now it seems Aquaman is making a return at DC how would you like to see him done for example.
I could probably do an hour episode by myself about how I wish Marvel would kill the fucking Sentry.
J.
heh….
It would probaly be in E’s best interest not to be there
I wouldn’t won’t him accidently hurt
how many superman ripoffs does marvel need? they have gladitor and 3 different versions of hyperion (squad supreme, sinister, and JMS’s max) you dont see dc throwing around spidey clones all over there books. i hope sentry goes deep into comic book limbo soon.
Maybe DC should take a page from Marvel and cop— I mean do homages to Marvels’ characters… give ’em a taste of their own medicine. I would start with Avegerising some DC characters. : Guardian for Cap, Hardware for IronMan Major Bummer for Hulk, etc. etc.
Don’t forget the Roy Thomas Nazi versions of Superman and Wonder Woman in the Invaders (although I kinda thought that was a fun title. Specially when Frank Robbins was the artist)
To each his own, myself, I’ve never seen a Robbins work that I did not despise, but thats just me.
well, is the sentry really a rip off though? i dont know much about superman, but i dont think they have that much in common in terms of abilities, dont think ive ever seen sentry use x ray vision, or freeze things with his breath. im not saying there arent similarities, sentry has a giant s on him, they can both fly… they have sorta tangentially sun related powers.
im not saying i like the sentry. although i used to before bendis came and did his thing… im just saying i dont think hes a superman clone/ripoff.
The Sentry is a Superman analogue, that is there are similarities but there are enough differences to make him not a copy. If the Sentry used x-ray vision or freeze breath and heatray eyes then he would be a close enough copy for DC to sue the ass off marvel.
Check out the DC Comics vs Fawcett Comics case involving Superman and Captain Marvel where at the end of it Fawcett comics went out of business and 15 years later DC bought the rights to Captain Marvel for a song.
How about a video or post on J’s and E’s ideal superhero team line ups. From the Avengers to Young Justice. Or even Supervillain team from the Brotherhood to Villany Inc. Also like your top 10 superhero and supervillain teams. I know its been done in other places but i think it would be cool here.
While I don’t want a third Green Lantern book I’m ecstatic that Bedard will be writing Corps. The guy is one of the best under appreciated writers in comics and R.E.B.E.L.S. is one of DC’s best. I hope this will help to keep R.E.B.E.L.S. on the stands.
I agree with this comment 110%.
J.
Who’s the artist on this btw?
Adrian Syaf. Idk who this guy is… is he any good?
I’m pretty sure he was the artist on Blackest Night: Batman if that helps.
Just read the first R.E.B.E.L.S. trade and it was really fucking good. I just wish that andy clarke did every issue š¦
Ya, I really wish the Clack did every issue too. I love REBELS no matter who is on art because the story is so damn good but if Clark was on there as regular artist I could convince so many more people to add it to their monthly club pull list.
J.
Truth
That’s why R.E.B.E.L.S isn’t in my pull list, yes I’m that shallow.
I like pretty pictures with my wordy words š
And that’s why you like Ana Maire Cox, right? š
J.
Well…she’s cute, but intelligent
I’d like to see Mera become an Aquawoman and forget about bringing Aquaman back.
I liked the Sword of Atlantis reboot, it began to flounder after a while, but it sure started strong.
I was a big fan of John Acrudi/Patrick Gleason’s run on Aquaman. ‘American Tidal’ when San Diego,Ca sank after an earthquake and became “Sub Diego”.
It really was a good take on AM and gave him his own city.
hey E did you see your girl felicia’s new twit pic? she is posing with darth vader i think she is trying to hurt ya.
Link please.

maybe she’s trying to make him jealous…
i know that little minx is toying with him
A new package of comics (or a package of new comics) arrived this morning just before leaving for work, I just had time to scan through it but there is one there called “Ed Hannigan – Covered” from Marvel and the Hero Initiative which you should consider looking for.
Ed hannigan was one of the major cover artists for Marvel in the 70’s and 80’s but has MS now, the book goes towards his medical expenses, this is one thing I can praise Marvel highly for doing and if your store has it you should consider getting it. Its $5.99 but its for a good cause.
I’ll be looking out for it during my next LCS trip. Thanks Locus.
I just recently read a Tony Daniel Batman book… I had a problem with nearly every page of that crap.
Also a few years ago I bought a copy of Batman#500 and it had a signature on it and I had no idea who’s it was. Well I found out that it was Joe Quesada’s signature (he drew the cover). I don’t know how I feel about this…
Yea I finally had to drop that crap, I enjoyed Winnicks run so much and I thought that maybe Daniel had improved but I was wrong. Each issue is just as bad as Battle for the Cowl, both story and art-wise
Tony Daniel has said that he will in fact be involved with Batman #700 and possibly beyond… and the viewers of CCW collectively weep for the future of Batman.
Marvel is releasing a new Series of Astonishing Comics.
A Mini called Astonishing Wolverine/Spider-Man. Written by Jason Aaron, with Art by Adam Kubert. and the a mini Astonishing X-men: Xenogenesis. Written by Warren Ellis, with art by Kaare Andrews.
Overall, i’m quite sad to see Phil Jimenez leaving so soon because his art was the only thing keeping Astonishing afloat.
I believe Jimenez’s contract with Marvel is up and he is heading back to DC. He is rumored to be working on a Wonder Woman book with Grant Morrison.
J.
YES!!!!!! Great news!
Hmmm, Grant on a Wonder Woman book has to be one of the worst ideas i have heard,
You never know, Morrison was good on JLA and All-Star Superman was a great comic so he can do iconic heroes when the mood is on him, not everything is like the Invisibles or Flex Mentallo.
btw the first issue of Joe the Barbarian was great, at $1 you should check it out.
I did, i felt Sean saved the issue. But then again Grant wrote the first issue to highlight the art. and it was a very good issue.
Yup, the art was excellent. Seeing as it is an 8 issue series, I think I’ll probably trade wait it, the inevitable hardcover will look great.
Have some faith my friend! Hopefully Gail won’t be kicked off of the main book. Maybe they can do a Secret Origins mini.
Word is that the Morrison’s WW book will either be a separate series or an OGN.
J.
Wonder Woman: Earth One, maybe?
It’s official. The right wing hates Captain America.
What a surprise./sarcasm

J.
Don’t those guys have anything better to do than complain about comic books? I’m sure there is a TV set out there that still needs a good shootin’! BTW how much are those copies of Cap 602 going for on ebay? Maybe I’ll sell mine, that comic was shit anyway.
If you’re going to sell it now is the time.
J.
I would probably find agreemnet with some of the Tea Party people if I attended one of their rallies. The problem is when a large group of people come together in an open square, regardless of the agenda, there are always going to be a few people who act like assholes, or hold up the Obama is Hitler signs. Which is why I’ve never participated in political protests; I don’t want to rub shoulders with some of them. There is a difference between being a fiscal conservative/liberitarian and a extreme religious conservative.
I’ve already commented on what I think of the Cap book controversy. Censorship has no place in comic books, and a writer has every right to put his politics in his stories if editors don’t care.
http://article.nationalreview.com/268435/captain-america-traitor/michael-medved
here is an old one
Michael Medved is an ass clown. However, I haven’t read those stories so I can’t make a proper judgement on how accurate the article is.
Wow…..this whole thing has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever read about in comics
So as much as I have hated Marvel’s business practices this year(and some of their product), I gotta say I am actually pretty excited for their Heroic Age stuff.
It kinda seems to be a return to comics done the right way, and not the way the have been done during that horrible Dark Reign.
Also there seems to be alot of good stuff coming out; like an Atlas relaunch, Matt Fraction coming onto Thor, Secret Avengers (which could be good depending on the team), and a continuation of Incredible Herc in the Prince of Power mini.
anyone else agree?
hey J
you ever go to the chigago fire games? whats their attendance like? the red bulls attendance is pretty bad last season we went to game and they said 9000 ppl were there but only if about 4000 ppl were hiding in the bathrooms. and considering giants stadium hold like 80,000 ppl its kid of sad looking. the red bulls are moving to a new stadium this year hopefully it will look a little more crowded
You’re talking about soccer, right?
yup major league soccer but it really isnt major

an art gallery celebrates black history month with some marvel heroes
Interesting. I’ve heard it said that DC has more prominent female characters, which Marvel does a better job promoting cutlurally diverse superheroes. What do you folks think?
I meant to say “while Marvel does a better job promoting culturally diverse superheroes”.
hmm good question marvel seems have been behind spider woman and ms marvel for the past few years and now black widow im probably missing someone
but dc has birds of prey batwoman the sirens and the supergirls
so dc probably has them beat
