If you get a chance flip through the new issue of Dark Avengers while you are at your local comic shop today. Chances are good that I will be ranting about it soon so acquaint yourself with the material beforehand. Bendis’ bullshit is becoming just way too much to deal with.

  1. Ironmuskrat says:

So what does everyone think of the line up so far for the Avengers Academy comic? A mostly, all new lineup of characters I have never seen before, which is cool. I just don’t know if any of the new Avengers hopefuls really stand out for me right now, Fortress has a goofy, offbeat look that I like, everyone else is just a superpower in a suit right now to me. They also seem to have personal issues judging from their tag lines. If this book turns into Avengers: Emo Academy I will be greatly disappointed.

But as usual I hope for the best =)

    • phil says:

Bump the Academy!!! I’m holding out hope that Guardians of the Globe is not a hoah.
Oh and the Red Herring Avengers will be debuting soon.:-)

      • phil says:

        hoax, that is.

      • bobcat1489 says:

Well So far it doesn’t seem like a hoax. It seems like image is just mocking Marvel’s ad campainge. Invincible, Spawn, and Rick Grimes (The Walking Dead) have made the team so far. I wonder who’s next. My previous pics were totally off. But I still think they are going to mock the avengers line up some how. Super Patriot, Tech Jacket, Kid Thor, Savage Dragon, and Wolf-Man are my pics.

      • Ironmuskrat says:

I hate to say it, but it is looking more like a hoax now with rick Grimes being included. Although his quote is very funny and a nice zinger to Marvel.

    • bobcat1489 says:

They do seem emo. But that Fortress guy seems like he’s organic metal or something. Kinda like that new cartoon dude on CN Generator Rex. Also Finesse looks like a female Nightwing.

    • tomstewdevine says:

The only Avengers book I will getting is the one by ed brubaker, and if it wasn’t for him I would probably split altogether from the avengers.

      • Deemar says:

As much as I like Brubaker I’ll pass on even his Secret Avengers.

Siege was suppose to clean up and reboot the franchise all I see is more Bendis, Mike McKone art (Which isn’t my cup o tea) and no Dan Slott.

    • Deemar says:

Aside from Reptil none of them are really lighting my fire

  2. Rob F says:

It looks like an ok group but the title itself will be lost amid the haze of Avengers titles. The real question to me is are we looking at something closer to what the X-Men had with Academy X or is this the Initiative all over again?

  3. generaldark says:

tony daniels continues to be writing batman……

  4. Smallmaniac says:

I don’t live in Chicago nor am I going to C2E2, but I found this pretty funny.

  5. kurumais says:

HAPPY ST PADDY”S DAY here is a little old school irish punk you guys probably havent heard of ( this would be a fun song for GH)

  6. Pobra says:

Happy St. Patties day guys and gals!
So who’s getting drunk tonight? I know it’s a Wednesday, but still… It’s also me and my GF’s anniversary tonight, so I’mma get extra tipsy! I also plan on wearing my Green Lantern shirt out to dinner, so ya, she’ll love that πŸ˜‰

    • Smallmaniac says:

Happy St. Patties day to you sir, and happy anniversary. Represent GL with pride.

    • Ironmuskrat says:

Too many cops out on the prowl here in Michigan. Even if you aren’t drinking, still a pretty good chance you will get pulled over for something, best to just stay home and wait it out =)

    • tomstewdevine says:

      oh boy I am.

    • Edward2962 says:

Cheers! An happy anniversary! Don’t forget to toast Sean Cassidy (Banshee) too!I’m gonna have a couple then turn in.I’m gettin’ old and I gotta go work tomorrow. Speaking of which, on the way home no less than 3 random guys got on the bus plastered. They were all 60-ish.Later a 40-ish semi-drunk got on.This is like around 4:30 an they were already wasted.I figured this must be the one night these guys get to party and not be judged.oh,well…least they weren’t driving.

  7. Dan Griffin says:

Marvel Fanboys are inraged over Image Comics Teasers mocking the Avengers lineup pictures.

“This is just a sign of Image’s jealousy over Marvel.”

Me, i find it quite funny and very true with the quotes from TWD guy and Spawn.

    • Ironmuskrat says:

It is funny, but the strange thing is, I am loving whoever is doing the art on those teasers. Anyone know who the artist is? I don’t think I have ever seen Invincible looking like such a badass before.

    • SMARTASS8 says:

I saw that and it just made me roll my eyes. These are the same Zombies who say DC fans are a bunch of “butt hurt babies” when Marvel is just “having fun” when trashing DC. It’s also supposed to be OK since both companies are friendly. Well, Geoff Johns didn’t seem to be laughing when a fan at the Emerald City Con asked him about future DC/Marvel crossovers. Hypocrite thy name is Marvel Zombie.

    • phil says:

As a once long time Marvel Guy I’n still surprised by the level of prima donna-ism that comes from these guys. Marvel has the Sentry (Superman),The SquadronSupreme (JLA), The Imperial Guard (Legion) Thundra (WonderWoman) and soon to be Nemisis (Batman/Joker). You’d think the Marvelites could take a joke.

  8. tomstewdevine says:

man i just got back from Germany and now I’m ten days behind in comics, well i have a lot a work to do but since I’m Irish I have to take tonight off from reading comics. It just is so hard to keep up my geek factor. but lord knows I try.

  9. Jeremy says:

I’m reading Booster Gold #30 and thinking,”How many times this idiot need to be told he can’t change the past?” What does everybody else think?

    • tomstewdevine says:

Ya I have only read the last about 4 issues but I just don’t know what to think about this series, I like the character just I don’t know if they can deliver a story with enough substance.

  10. mbell028 says:

I swear dude Vertigo needs to get more respect. The books they have are fucking ridiculous. American Vampire was really good and you basically got two solid full stories for the price of one shitty Siege book. Also Joe the Barbarian was top notch this week the art is really fantastic. I’m only reading three books off Vertigo right now (American Vampire, Daytripper, and Joe the Barbarian), but I have all the trades of Preacher, I’ve read the first three trades of Transmetropolitan (fantastic book if not one of my favorite books of all time), and I just bought the first two trades of Unknown Soldier and the issues leading up to next month. Kudos to Vertigo another huge notch for DC the best comic company around.

    • heckimlistening says:

Vertigo is really great. Most of the books I buy are Vertigo books.

Pretty much all are, ‘cept for Supergirl and Wonder Woman.

    • I have been buying Daytripper, Joe the Barbarian, and The Unwritten. I buy Scalped and Air in trades, have read the first 4 issues of Sweet Tooth, the Young Liars trades are next on my ‘to buy’ list, and bought American Vampire yesterday. At this rate Vertigo alone will be getting more of my money than Marvel. I agree that their books are severely underrated.

      • Stamps says:

I really, really like The Unwritten. The layouts and way they tell the story is awesome with the emails and headline news pages to tell what is going on in the rest of the world and their view of the events happening to Tommy.

    • tomstewdevine says:

Easily true, I love vertigo, I read (in no particular order) Fables, Jack of Fables, Scalped, Joe the Barbarian, The Unwritten, Sweet Tooth, and Hellblazer(on and off depending on the creative team). I do this because they are the best stories, they are for the most part creator owned, and where all are favorite marvel and dc writers get to let loose. That being said no company is perfect, I thought Air took to long to find any bearing without entertaining me so I dropped it after 5 issues, also I like Joe Kelley but Bang Tango was disappointing. I regard Y the Last Man, and Preacher, The Sandman to be some of the greatest comics ever made.

  11. kurumais says:

i was just reading on IWATCHSTUFF that channing tatum is still in the running for captain america
if they cast this no talent charisma less hack i will go %$^*ing bezerk. anyone who has ever been punished by even just five minutes of gi joe knows this guy should never be allowed near a movie set again. if they cast the piece of $%!^ actor as cap i will go to every santoria parlor
in brooklyn and put a curse on joe jackson at every freakin one!!!!

    • Stamps says:

I think he looks like the actor who plays Cap should, he’s got the Cap look down definitely, but acting wise ha ha yeah I’m not so sure about that.
But then again I was dragged to both Dear John and GI Joe so maybe it’s just that I’m a little scarred by the thought of any movie with him in it much less Captain America.

      • kurumais says:

you saw two movies with this knucklehead in it? all the way threw? you deserve a $#^ing medal!!!!

        • Stamps says:

Why thank you, it was an honor just to be nominated.
yeah all together it’s around 4 hours of my life I’m never going to get back.

          • MicahSkin says:

He’s a good actor who’s just gotten some shitty roles lately. Watch him in Stop Loss. Or the video of him as a stripper. Much better performances than GI Joe.

  12. mbell028 says:

I’ve really wanted to get into Unwritten. I was actually going to buy issue 1 when it first came out, but my local comic shop didn’t order any copies of it when it first came out and they weren’t able to get any copies of it. I may try to get into it when I have more money.

What I’ve really liked about Vertigo are the things you guys have talked about on the video show they gave fans the opportunity to buy an issue for $1 (Unwritten 1 and I don’t know what issue of Air it was) and you could get the trade for $10. That’s how you get fans interested in books I really wish that other companies would try things like this. That’s the main reason I decided to read Irredeemable from Dynamite (even though that was a complete waste of time) they offered an issue for $1 and had the first trade come out the same week. In times like these companies should be doing deals such as this at least once a month, but that’s just my opinion.

  13. SMARTASS8 says:

Did anyone flip through/read Siege #3 or Dark Avengers yesterday?

    • Ya. I read them both. I am not happy at all about Dark Avengers and if I have time tomorrow I will be posting about it. Siege just sucked.

      • Pobra says:

Yeah, I flipped through Dark Avengers at the shop yesterday and boy, oh boy… Bendis strikes again! Based on what I’ve read and heard about in the past couple years, I’d say Bendis must really have some issues with women. And it’s getting to be a little out of hand.
Siege #3 was a big old “meh”. It had some cool moments, but was easily skippable. I am kind of interested in reading #4 to see how it all plays out though.

        • SMARTASS8 says:

I didn’t buy either of them, but I looked them over at the store. Siege #3 makes me think I could be a comic writer. Bendis’ dialogue is usually just characters repeating what others say to them with little creativity or intelligence to it. The plot for Siege seems more by-the-numbers than any major superhero crossover that I’ve ever seen. This mini-series seems like a story from an annual spread out over 4 issues. We all know the “Heroic Age” is coming. Siege just seems like we’re waiting for Bendis to take us from point A to point B. I’m not getting any surprises in this book at all.

In terms of Dark Avengers, it just depressed me. It’s weird. I’ve never been a Sentry fan(even before Bendis got ahold of him), but this issue bummed me out even more than the last issue of Cry For Justice(I am a fan of Roy Harper and his daughter). Even though I’m done with reading Marvel Comics for now, I really hope Bullseye is killed off in case I’m ever able to come back. He was always evil and a killer, but after seeing his recent “Hawkeye” mini-series and Dark Avengers, it seems like the writers find all of his horrific murders to be a joke. This is what led me to be sick of the Joker. A villain with little growth, does awful things over and over again, receives little when it comes to punishment, and we’re all supposed to revel in how evil & “funny” he is.

        • Morlock50 says:

Hey folks, don’t keep me in suspense, (and please don’t make me read Dark Avengers at my LCS). What does Bullseye do to the Sentry’s wife?

          • Chokes her to death and throws her out of a helicopter into a river where her body sinks down to the bottom. I’ll post a pic of the page tonight on the blog.

            • SMARTASS8 says:

While in my personal life, I would never hit/slap/physically hurt a woman, I often feel some of the “Women In Refrigerators” rants by Gail Simone and other female comic talent to be a tad hypocritical(I say this as a fan of Gail’s work). Women want equality(which they deserve in all forms) but they get upset when things happen to them in fiction that happen to men all the time. Having said that, the scene with Bullseye & Sentry’s wife left me with a knot in my stomach at how cruel & disturbing it was. While it still would have been depressing, I probably wouldn’t have reacted the same if Bullseye did that to a man. I don’t know if that makes me sexist that violence towards a woman bothers me more or if it just makes Bendis sexist for featuring that so often in his books. Either way, I felt like reading an Archie Comic just to wash the bad taste away that Dark Avengers #15 left me with.

              • The reason I have a big problem with the new issue of DA is because Bendis has a loooooooong track record of misogyny in his books. Isolated instances of violence is one thing but when one writer keeps doing it over and over and over is when is truly becomes disturbing.

                • SMARTASS8 says:

I probably haven’t noticed it since I haven’t read or even flipped through a lot of Bendis’ books for a quite awhile. I just started again recently due to Siege and my wanting to see if Disney was going to do anything about how bleak the Marvel Universe had become. Although, I do remember hearing about Tigra being tortured and I still consider Hawkeye sleeping with a brain damaged Scarlet Witch to be rape so maybe I have noticed it.

            • Morlock50 says:

Nice. Brian M. Bendis…bringing class back to the Marvel U. The kiddies are gonna love that scene.

      • Bboyce109 says:

R.I.P. Asgard you fell in 2004 and you fell again in 2010. It only feels like you were rebuilt 3 years ago, oh wait you just were. FUCK YOU BENDIS……i read Thor vol 3. #1-12 i wanted Asgard rebuilt even if it was on Earth and guess what you destroyed it so you better bring it back to Asgard dimension. By the way you made the president of the U.S. sound like a complete moron, duh is that nick fury and captain America is this good or bad.

        • heckimlistening says:

Asgard is gone again?!?! Fucking Marvel and their shitty continuity. They fucked over JMS’s great reimagining of the Thor mythos.

He’s too good of a writer for Marvel anyway. I just feel bad that Fraction has to clean up Bendis’s crap pile.

          • Fraction left holding the bag yet again after a Marvel fuck up. I do mention this in a review that I am working on for Siege btw.

            • Bboyce109 says:

The worst part is that there’s a whole other issue that’s going to be about the sentry/void. I really hate the sentry, hes the worst comic book character ever and i hope they finally kill him and to me siege will be worth it. If they try to save him and in the end is redeemed i will honestly shoot myself from marvel’s constant stupidly.

              • heckimlistening says:

Personally I think redemption is out of the question for a guy who tore someone in half.

                • Pobra says:

I’m thinking more and more that they are going to go the redemption route. My guess is Phobos will break him down mentally and the void will somehow be released, then through the heroic age they will build him back up as a hero. I fear the Sentry is going to end up as one of the Secret Avengers. If you look at the teaser images, you can guess which one.

                • Bboyce109 says:

Dude its marvel, you can destroy or kill anything you want an in a year or two its magically fixed or forgotten by them. I know im talking about comics but marvel pulls more shit like spider-man: one more day than DC does with each crisis. Marvel pull your shit together or get out of the way for other comic book industries that know how to tell a good story.

      • Morlock50 says:

        I smell a rant a’comin. Can’t wait.

  14. Mike F says:

I enjoyed Norman in Siege #3.

That was it. Seeing his twisted Goblin face was the only REMOTELY cool part.

Other than that, I feel cheated of 3 USD. Fucking Marvel.

I checked out spider-woman 7 (finale) at the store, and it was actually better than siege (to me) and was more worth the money. Brave and the Bold was fine. Doomwar was good but ending rather cheesy. Still good tho. Cheese is good sometimes πŸ™‚

  15. Venom829 says:

  16. tomstewdevine says:

i just finished powers #3, how is this written by bendis, and doesnt make me want to burn it after reading. Why cant all bendis books be like this.

    • So you didn’t have a problem with him decapitating yet another female character?

      • tomstewdevine says:

Now lets get this strait, I didnt buy the book but read it off a friend at work, I dont buy it because right on the back it says “superpowered beings doing crazy murderous things.” Having the head be completly off isn’t somthing that I need, but I’m fine with this charater dieing. She was going to kill her own daughter and had killed a cop earlier, and he had already shown us that the mace is crazy, So i still enjoyed the issue, also no 3 page letters section in back so that was a plus. I dont get pissed when he fucks over his own characters, but when he does to marvel charaters it just feels different.

  17. SMARTASS8 says:

I wonder if JoeyQ, who according to JMS hasn’t talked to him since they argued about OMD, is a littled peeved that JMS will have an appearance in the Thor movie. Now his bit may end up on the cutting room floor but, if it makes it in, it would be like having Mark Millar make an appearance in the Green Lantern movie.

    • heckimlistening says:

JMS has a cameo in THOR? Hmm. That’s kinda cool.

I’m excited for that film. I may not like Marvel all that much anymore, but I love me some Thor. Always have and always will.

Besides, I’ll see anything with Natalie Portman. πŸ˜‰

      • SMARTASS8 says:

According to one of the comics sites he does. Originally it was going to be a walk on role but I guess the director gave him some lines as well. I loved what he did with Thor so I’m happy that he’s still recognized for that even if he and Marvel had a nasty break-up.

I’m surprised by how much DC is using him. Even though I currently prefer DC, they don’t always use their exclusives(although JMS is more of an unofficial exclusive) as well as or as much as they should. I really felt that JMS was going to do more movies after The Changeling came out but so far all he’s done is re-write the Ninja Assassin script.
