Just finished books 3-5 of the scott pilgrim series tonight. I think the wait till july 20th may kill me

  3. heckimlistening says:

Did anyone else think James Cameron’s Avatar was a pile of shit?

    • I actually refuse to see it. I would be proud of I were one of the 5% of the world that could go through their entire life without watching it. I have absolutely no interest in that flick. By your comment I can see I have made the right choice. Now only if I could say the same about Kick Ass…le sigh.

      J.

      • heckimlistening says:

I’m proud to know someone who resisted the downfall of American cinema! I sadly was dragged by my friend to see it. I will never forgive the bastard, lol. Plus, I work in a video store so either we have the shitty Twilight flicks or Avatar clips on constant replay.

I can honestly tell you that it is one of the worst films I have ever seen and I have seen some trash.

        • I had people ask me to go with them to see the flick but I did RESIST. He he.

I used to work at a video store myself. It was a small ma and pop shop. I was good friends with the manager so he would let me bring in old subtitled Tai Seng Jackie Chan vhs tapes (when we worked together) that I bought from the comic shop I also worked at at the time and we would watch those in the store all night. Ah, those were good times.

          J.

          • Deemar says:

            Who doesn’t love twilight?

            Seriously

            • littlekingryan* says:

I may be a douchebag for liking Avatar, but I can’t go with you there….

            • Jeebus D, please tell me you are kidding. Please…

              J.

            • Stamps says:

I’m not going to lie. I love twilight. LOVE. IT. I can’t get enough. I even had a release party for both dvd’s at midnight when they came out.

              • littlekingryan* says:

To each their own. Plus, you’re of the female persuasion, no? Not to say that only girls like Twilight, but it certainly helps…

            • Venom829 says:

Me, cause I like having my pride and my testicles. 😛

              • mbell028 says:

Not to sound homo, but the first movie was pretty good. I actually took a girl on our second date to see the second one THAT MOVIE SUCKED BALLZZZ. I was lucky enough to miss a good portion of it cuz we made out the entire time, but what I saw was awful. Relationship was over after that can’t date someone who actually likes that lol

            • SMARTASS8 says:

I’m straight and wasn’t forced to watch them by a significant other of the female persuasion but I saw both Twilight movies since I’m a sucker for shirtless men…uh…I mean werewolves. They reminded me of Bay’s Transformers movies. So much of the world seemed to love them but I thought each movie was shit with the sequel being worse than the original. Also, not to sound like Bendis, but I think that sourpuss bitch Kristen Stewart not only was the worst looking girl in the movies & can’t act for shit, but she needs a good ol’ kick in the cunt.

              • Bryce Dallas Howard is going to be in the next one. I hope someone makes a youtube video of all the scenes that she is in so I don’t need to see the whole movie.

                J.

                • SMARTASS8 says:

I can’t believe she’s Clint Howard’s niece. Not only does she have some junk in the trunk, I find her one of the prettiest women in Hollywood. According to a Howard Stern interview, her current husband is the only guy she’s ever been with(her dad said the same thing about his wife). Even though that’s hard to believe after her full frontal sex scene in Manderlay, it’s refreshing and kind of makes her hotter to me. I blame my Madonna-whore complex on the 12 years of Catholic schooling I was forced to attend. LOL!

                    • SMARTASS8 says:

Poor Bryce! You know it’s a bad show when I found Rosie O’Donnell the most likable one on it. That dimwitted Republican from Survivor. The actress from Everybody Loves Raymond who said the Earth is flat and that Christianity was the first religion. Whoopi Goldberg who defended Polanski by saying what he did wasn’t “rape-rape”. Baba Wawa who looks down on and comments on celebrities who do stupid things even though she’s admitted to numerous affairs.

                    • littlekingryan* says:

And she expressed interest in playing Dara if they ever made a movie of The Sword. Amazing that she even knows about that book.

                    • littlekingryan* says:

Smartass- do you listen to as much Stern as I do?

                    • SMARTASS8 says:

littlekingryan*, I have him on my car radio and still flip to him, but I just don’t like him as much as I used to. He’s better than nothing, but I think he worries a little too much about what his new “Hollywood” friends think and doesn’t seem to put his heart into the show as much as he used to. I don’t blame him for feeling rundown after doing what he does for so long, but for 100 million a year & working only 16 hours a week, he should be able to fake it a little better.

                    • littlekingryan* says:

So in other words: yes. 🙂

          • heckimlistening says:

See, I wish we could do that kind of stuff. We’re mandated to only play “the hits.” When ‘the Blind Side’ and ‘Twilight’ are considered cinematic acheivements, I softly weep for our future.

When did ya stop working at the vid store?

      • cballsack says:

You’re not alone. I refused to see Avatar as well. I have friends who’ve seen it multiple times. That only strengthened my resolve not to see it, cuz I know their tastes suck.

I’ll only watch it if it comes on HBO. And only if Golden Girls ain’t on.

      • Friedmiester says:

Jose my friend I am proud to be apart of that 5% of people that have never seen Avatar. Huzzzuh!

      • SMARTASS8 says:

I was going to be like you Jose, but I’m such a movie nut, I knew my disdain for Cameron as a person or my being unimpressed with the trailer wouldn’t keep me away for long. Avatar wasn’t the worst movie I’ve ever seen but I found Jurassic Park from 1983 more groundbreaking and immersive than it. I think I even liked Phantom Menace more than Avatar and I HATTTEEEE Jake Lloyd. Even though I’m somewhat curious about Ghost Writer, I think knowing that Polanski directed it will let me keep my movie ban for once. I hope I read some more shitty things about JoeyQ so I have an excuse not to see Iron Man 2.

BTW, if I’m understanding your last post, Jose, did you see Kick Ass? I’ve been away from the blog for a few days and didn’t know if you reviewed it or not.

    • littlekingryan* says:

No, I didn’t think it was shit at all. I thought it was one of those rare effects-driven blockbuster movies where you forget the effects because you actually become invested in the story, the emotions of the characters, and truly feel something for the plight of the natives. It brought up real emotions in me as an audience member, and I think that makes it successful beyond what box office numbers say. I go to the movies to be entertained, and I go to feel something. I like thought-provoking films as well, but I don’t always need to be challenged, sometimes it’s perfectly okay to sit back, turn off your critical mind, and enjoy. I was sucked into the story. I wanted those military fuckers to get their comeuppance in the end. I wanted the Na’Vi to kick their asses and I was exhilarated by some of the flying and treetop sequences, the rallying of the troops, and the final battle. I’m not being facetious, and I’m not trying to trash you guys for not enjoying the film, but I hope you can respect that it worked for me on several levels.
Somemtimes things are popular not because the masses of viewers are ignorant fucks who will eat anything that is spoonfed to them. Sometimes things are popular because they actually succeed both as technological achievements and involving stories.
It may not be your cup of tea, but if you’re judging something before you’ve even seen it can come off as a bit close-minded and elitist. It’s like the people who hate the bands they used to love just because everyone else found out about them. Popularity and mass appeal does not always equal mediocrity. Sometimes things succeed because they’re well-made, and because they work as immersive entertainment.
Or maybe it was just the 3D. 🙂

      • Deemar says:

I liked Avatar well enough, Colonel Quairitch was my favorite badguy of the year so far.

      • Ermmm…I think then I may be the text book definition of elitist. Oh well… 😛

        J.

        • Deemar says:

Dude you just have rarified tastes

          Like a food critic

        • littlekingryan* says:

I’m really not trying to call you names or anything, my friend. I just couldn’t jump on the bandwagon with that one.

          • heckimlistening says:

I can’t eat up stuff just for pretty visuals. It was more of an amusement park ride than a film. Sam Worthington still can’t act, Sigourney Weaver (the one good thing in the film) had a non-role. The smurfs looked like big cartoon characters. I felt like it was trying to hard to be Braveheart in space.

I respect that you liked it though. To each their own.

            • littlekingryan* says:

It did remind me of Braveheart a bit. I felt some of the same visceral hatred for the baddies in Avatar as I did in Braveheart. I’d still rate Braveheart way higher, though. Avatar was definitely a film that loses a lot when it’s not seen on the big screen.

              • Deemar says:

Braveheart one of my all time favorite movies (Mel Gibson’s insanity excluded) I’ve watched that movie so much I thought I was Scottish.

                Epic..movie

        • Rob F says:

Well I agree about not seeing Avatar…the way the movie was billed you had to see this movie because it was the greatest cinematic masterpiece of all time. Who says? I think movies should build their own hype not have it force fed down our mouths by a media campaign. In fact, I’m proud to say I didn’t see it and I’d tell James Cameron off if I ever met him

        • Morlock50 says:

I think the word elitist in this context is defined as a person who takes the content and quality of entertainment seriously.

        • SMARTASS8 says:

You’re not elitist, you just like what you like. Unlike you Jose, I don’t find Fraction or Kirkman good writers. Does that make me elitist? No. It just makes me someone with “bad taste”.LOL! I thought I’d either print what you were thinking or save you the time of replying.

    • generaldark says:

i enjoyed avatar but i hated seeing it in 3D, i had my glasses off the whole time. luckily they make it so its still watchable without wearing the glasses when your suppose to have them on lol. I didnt think it was shit but i hear he wants to make a sequal? count me out on that.

    • Venom829 says:

It was so long it was like reading a Bendis comic, with the only great thing being the visuals. EPIC FAIL!!!!

  10. Well, seeing how Bakugon has started on Cartoon Network I think it’s time for me to go to bed. Have to wake up in 5 hours to go to work. Talk to you lads tomorrow.

I think this is the 1st time I’ve been on where there’s been already more than a hundred comments posted. Why didn’t y’ll wake me?

I am now going to brag that Scott Snyder commented on my blog post: http://littlekingryan.wordpress.com/2010/04/20/new-comics-day-421/#comment-32.
    Boo-yah!

  14. Pobra says:

Does anyone here watch The Mighty Boosh?
I’m not going to post any clips because I haven’t seen it yet, but it was highly recommended to me by a friend. I’m thinking of picking up the first season, but I need a second opinion before I do, and I trust most of your opinions. Most. 😉

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Among_the_thugs

im reading this book now among the thugs by bill buford
about football hooligans its really good
so far he is hanging out with man u fans
i got to say reading the first couple of chapters WTF would anyone go to a match !!!????
great topic so far well written and well told without looking down on these guys he is trying to get to know
i would say a must read for any footie fans especially a man u fan/intercity jibers like j
or even a sports fan in general

    has anyone else read it?

  17. kurumais says:

what do you think of this clip from the jack benny show? i was in the mood for old school comedy the other day and was watching jack benny and groucho marx clips. folks seem split on the clip of rochester buying jack a christmas present some saying its racist others saying its just plain funny from what ive seen of the jack benny show i think rochester is just damn funny

since we had a bunch comedy clip and lots of brothers

interested in the ccw point of view

    • cballsack says:

      I don’t get the racism?

      • Edward2962 says:

Alot of comedy from the 50’s,40’s,30’s etc did portray black ppl as caricatures or buffoons. Many folks have an automatic reaction when we see something from that era and the black man is seen as subservient. That’s probably why some folks see it as racist.( someone could on for hours about mass media images and social conditioning) As a black person, I don’t think this clip is that bad.

        • kurumais says:

i think its a great gag from vaudevillian era comedy (all those comedians at the time came out of vaudeville)
someone posted that they used that bit like a decade before on the radio show

i love all that old stuff the marx brother jack benny laurel and hardy wc feilds burns and allen

          • Edward2962 says:

I’m not an expert.I’ve seen Duck Soup,You Can’t Cheat an Honest Man,and My Little Chickedee. Most of want I know about those entertainers comes from TV specials about the “golden” age. Bringing back to comics, you might want to check out reprints of Cerebus by Dave Sim.There’s a character in some of the stories named Lord Julius who’s clearly based on Grouch Marx.

            • kurumais says:

oh ive read him sim did a great groucho he also had lord leordo and adolph chico and harpo but groucho worked best
and they arent mention on any of the marx brother wiki pages under in other media thing references which i think its a shame because dave sim did such a good job and clearly loves the brothers marx and cerebus was such a great book

  18. Ashaman_18 says:

So who read the new issue of Brave and Bold and thought they were reading an issue of Phonogram? I loved Phonogram so this issue was very familiar to me. It was like seeing an old friend. Seems to me that JMS is writing better issues since that Atom and Joker one. I mean I liked the Atom and Joker one, but I wasn’t crazy about it. Since that issue he has been writing better almost comparable to his first couple of issues. IMO

  19. cballsack says:

Are you serious? They blocked them? That sucks. Those were hysterical. My favorite was the one where he found out that Michael Jackson died.

    • Ya, they are all beginning to be blocked.

      J.

      • kurumais says:

that was very clever one of the better ones
what are the film makers worried the parodies are hurting uncle adolph’s image?

        • Locusmortis says:

Users like us should download as many of the parodies as possible and make up fake youtube accounts and continually keep posting them up.

Its absolutely stupid on the part of the film company to do this. The film has gained far more attention because of the parodies.

      • IronMuskrat says:

Seriously though, Downfall is actually a pretty good movie that absolutely no one in the States would have seen without the popularity of these YouTube clips.

  20. Time to pay some bills. 😛

  21. littlekingryan* says:

    Here Comes New South Park!!!

  22. Mike F says:

    Guys I need help.

After reading Brave and the Bold 33, I gotta say, I am very pleased but a little confused.

This issue is supposed to take place around “killing joke.” So how come the iPhone is present in the issue?

I don’t wanna sound like a dick but I am just curious about things like this.. anyone else wondering?

Regardless, It was a great issue!

    • Thanks for ruining it for me! I haven;t read it yet! An iPhone spoiler alert would have been nice.

He he, just kidding. I’ll get back to you on that after I read it. Comics have been doing a lot of that retcon bullshit lately. Just look at Superman Secret Origin.

      J.

      • Mike F says:

Ahhh Shit!!! Jose I am so sorry 😦

Its a great issue no matter what. Cliff Chiang’s art was great and JMS never disappoints.

        • I was kidding. I flipped through it and figured if Barbara was in it it was before Killing Joke. No worries.

I bought a new manga this week I think you should check out. It’s called “Kingyo Used Books Vol. 1”. I may do a review of it in the next couple of days.

          J.

          • Mike F says:

Oh awesome. I’ll have to check that out. Ever since the fabulous Pluto ended, I’ve needed a new manga to keep me happy 🙂

    • cballsack says:

Comic books are timeless, dude. It’s like Burton’s first Batman film, where they all this modern equipment in the Batcave but the cars that the general public drove around in were all from the 70s.

  23. littlekingryan* says:

The iPhone is present due to a time paradox created when the Flash entered the Speed Force in Flash (vol.2) #153. Certain elements of our present day time were fused with the 80s Earth One. Duh.

    • Adoy, it all makes sense now. Thanks.

      J.

    • Mike F says:

Man, how foolish am I for not reading every comic to keep up with the logic it has.

      • I think Ryan was being factitious.

        J.

        • Mike F says:

          Yeah I know 😛

All in all its comic book logic, I guess the question is, how does a woman with a yellow rope make people tell the truth by wrapping them with it, rather than why’s there an iPhone in the 80’s… lol

          • littlekingryan* says:

Y’know, that brings up an interesting thing I heard someone say (I think it was Steve Englehart) about Wonder Woman on a recent Wordballoon. They were talking about how kinky William Moulton Marston (creator of WW) was and how WW’s “lasso of truth” is not really a lasso at all. It’s a whip.

            • Rucka calls it a whip too. Marston was an interesting cat. He did believe that women were the dominant species (not that there is anything wrong with that). I am reading a book right now called “Wonder Woman: Amazon, Hero, Icon” and will hopefully have a review for it in the coming weeks. It gets into Marston’s personal life a bit.

              J.

            • Mike F says:

haha seriously? that’s hilarious. I always feared there was some “kinky” thoughts like that from the creator/writers of WW.

              • Well, look at the design of Wonder Woman: High heeled boots, bustier and a whip. You guys know how much I love Wonder Woman but I do actually think her “look” is an outdated concept of feminism. She does need a redesign to reflect current concepts and ideas of feminism.

                J.

                • Mike F says:

I do agree. I actually think her boots are cool tho. her and the Flash have cool boots in my opinion. But her outfit really is outdated and a really strange mash of colors and clothing. I mean, I think looking good is a great quality for a woman but she’s a natural beauty she doesn’t need to fly around in a golden breastplate and star-spangled panties to get attention. I truly think her morals and way of speaking just makes her such a great addition to the super-hero community.

I always wondered if anyone tried to change her look at any point… or wanted to at least. It might be one of those issues where DC won’t let anyone change her outfit :\

                  • Her boots now are cool now since DC took the heels off of them. I do agree with that.

                    J.

                    • Locusmortis says:

I think maybe they should stop drawing her tits so big, thats only really happened since Lynda Carter, before that they were less Power girl-esque and make her more lean and athletic (not over-muscled either)

                • Deemar says:

                  Like what a full bodysuit?

I think simply taking the gold outta costume, give her long pants/tights and call it a day.

the problems with her costume too me is less about design and more tacky ass colors.

I sounded gay as hell just now didn’t I?

                  • Mike F says:

Well her current costume isn’t dreadful, just a few updates here and there. I think a woman can have morals and be sexy. But that’s me, in this day in age, some people don’t think that way. They think they need a more universally accepted look.

In my own part, however, I just think the colors don’t match. Get the colors matching I’ll be fine with it really.

                    • Edward2962 says:

Remember they changed her costume in the 70’s to a more contemporary suit and some of the then feminist didn’t like it. (the fact that DC took away her powers didn’t help)

                    • Deemar says:

That’s pretty much my view, it’s a good design it’s just shitty colors

                    • littlekingryan* says:

Ed: Yep, Gloria Steinem was pretty much at the forefront of that. They took away everything that made Wonder Woman wondrous.

                    • heckimlistening says:

Didn’t Rucka want to change her suit up a bit? DC wouldn’t let him.

I’d like to see pants (or skirt), maybe less stars. Just make it less Americana and more Greek Myth.

                  • I liked her redesign in Red Sun.

                    J.

                  • littlekingryan* says:

Dee: More like gay as heaven. **Swoon**

                • Morlock50 says:

I think putting straps on that bustier so it doesn’t look like her tits are gonna spill out would be a good start. And make sure Ed Benes never gets to draw her with the star spangled thong again.

              • littlekingryan* says:

That is indeed the image I had in mind while writing my comment. Kind of hard to forget something quite that…outrageous.

              • Locusmortis says:

well William Moulton Marston was a fetishist so its no real surprise.

    • Edward2962 says:

Or barring that,it’s cuz of the Superboy Prime time wall punch.

  24. littlekingryan* says:

Is that a Pris look-a-like on Ugly Americans? Does anyone watch this show?

  25. IronMuskrat says:

Did you just draw that Ryan? If so, wow!

  26. assfax says:

Well, I just became aware of Romulus in Dark Wolverine and that has to be the shittiest shit that ever shat. Man what a dumb looking villain. I used to read Wolverine back in 92 but stopped givin’ a shit around the “feral” period. Since gettin’ back into comics in 2006 I know next to nothing about him. Like I remember reading the Wikipedia to catch up and there’s all this James Howlett shit that made me just shake my head.

I used to think Daken was stupid. He still is but this Romulus fucker is goddamn ridiculous. I giggle.

Also, that Spirit comic is the most tolerable of these First Wave books I’ve read. That part where he’s eating a hotdog looks like garbage.

Probably a bit late on this but Doc Savage was utter shit. BAD 90s art with the weirdest lookin’ kids I’ve seen since that recent Fantastic Four birthday party. Or maybe I’m just spoiled from reading Tom Strong and the older Doc Savage stuff.

Bagge’s Other Lives: Kinda soggy. Didn’t really enjoy that one.

    • Man, that Doc Savage book was complete shit, wasn’t it? What the fuck were they thinking with that book? I may review on here in he next couple of days to tell people to stay away from it.

      J.

      • Locusmortis says:

Meh, this is sometimes the bad thing about advance ordering, sometimes you get stuck with a lemon. At least I’ll be able to cancel before #3. I was looking for something to cut so as to give the new Chris Sprouse Tom Strong book a try.

    • littlekingryan* says:

Let me concur and add to your hate with some of mine own. Dark Wolverine is nigh unreadable when Stephen “God I wish I was Leinil Yu so bad I’d eat the peanuts out of his shit” Segovia is on art chores. That clone shit just annoys me no end.

    • IronMuskrat says:

Doc Savage has always been a mystery to me, I read the books as a kid and thought they where OK. He just doesn’t have much a personality, he the clean cut Batman, without a costume and well adjusted. I don’t know if he will ever translate well into today’s comics.

    • Deemar says:

      Dude,

      your awesome

      lol

  27. TheMSpot says:

Brendan Fraser’s movie career is dying a painful death.

  28. IronMuskrat says:

With all of the Wonder Woman talk..

  29. generaldark says:

so i read the new green lantern and….omg that was probally the worst issue i read. i know it was all set up and i expected that but not that much set up!!! i did not like how sinestro made his apperance in this, the most ridiciulus entrance ever!! Manke’s art is getting worst with the charecter designs. his layouts and stuff are great. Im a big supporter for jons and brightest day but i expected a hell of alot more from GL.

  30. Deemar says:

    Loved this damn show

  31. littlekingryan* says:

Wow, we’re gonna get to 400 before the end of the night…erm, morning. CCW Nation is fast becoming my pop culture commentary addiction.

    • cballsack says:

This site makes me not miss fantasy baseball so much.

      • This site makes me not miss sex so much…….ok, that’s a lie. 😦

        J.

        • IronMuskrat says:

CCW is like sex without the awkward cuddling afterward.

          • Awkward cuddling? Is that anything like getting kneed in the yambags and getting literally kicked out of bed after the deed is done? If so…ya, that awkward cuddling shit sucks.

            J.

            • Deemar says:

              Lol yambags!?

Soo..you hooked up with Mojo at C2E2, nice

            • IronMuskrat says:

              Quick story..

Meet a girl in bar, she wasn’t anything special, but she was cute and she seemed interested in me, which was kind of strange, since I was usually a drunk idiot back in my Army days. She told me she was divorced because her husband was screwing around on her. OK, no problem there, we end up hooking up and going back to her place. It was a little strange because she was still living on base.

I go into her apartment, and I look around, she hands me a beer. I notice she still has pictures on the wall or her and another man I assume is her husband. The guy is a captain in the air force.

              <>

Afterward we are laying in her bad and I ask her about the pictures on her wall.

              “thats my husband.”
              “the one you divorced?”
“well, we are not excatlly divorced yet.”
              “what?”
“well I know he was cheating on me, but I just wanted to get back at him. but don’t worry, I won’t tell him about us.”
“but the only way you get back at him is if he does find out about us.”
              “Don’t worry about that.”
              “Hold me!”

              Now that was awkward..

Got the hell out of there the next morning =)

          • cballsack says:

What is this sex you speak of?

        • Deemar says:

          I got your medicine

      • Deemar says:

        Both you guys are correct

        Five Dolllah!

  32. mbell028 says:

Marvel has no limits when it comes to how much they hate comic book readers. In July they are releasing a $3.99 book called “LADY DEADPOOL”. Are they fucking kidding me how much respect do they have for us. That book is going to be the worst book ever. Really getting sick of Deadpool and I’m glad I’m not supporting him by not buying any books he’s in. There my rant is done sorry guys.

    • Oh, shit. The new solicits are out, right? Damn, I got to check those out tomorrow so I can rip on Marvel some more. 🙂

But I’m with you on that one mbell. Marvel does hate comic book readers but they sure do love the mindless fanboys, don’t they?

      J.

      • mbell028 says:

no joke Jose I’m pretty close to just completely stop reading Marvel books although it’ll be tough doing that seeing there are still a few good ones left. Did you see that Agents of Atlas gets relaunched next month I’m actually going to pick it up this time. Read the trades of the previous series I’m mad I didn’t read them sooner.

    • Deemar says:

Good yeeesss…fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering

      I feel ya

    • TheMSpot says:

So, I take it you didn’t read Captain America: Who Won’t Wield the Shield.

What do you guys think of this?!

    I’m somewhat excited!

  34. littlekingryan* says:

I just read the new Brave and the Bold. I give it an A+. Call me sentimental, call me a pussy, or just call me a sensitive soul, but that ending brought tears to my eyes. I welled up a little bit. I really did. Zatanna and her Cassandra Complex. The origin of Barbara’s post-Batwoman name. The pieces fit together very well for me. This is what good storytelling in comics is about. Bravo, JMS and Chiang. Bravo indeed.
And on that note, I’m gonna put on my nightly Stern and fall asleep to it. Should knock the sentimentality right out of me…
    Later on,
    LKR

    • Mike F says:

Agreed. Its nice to see how JMS writes WW. Gives us a good idea of how great his run will be.

      • Mike F says:

Now that I think about it (SPOILERS! SPOILERS!)

Brave and the bold 33 ended (HERE THEY COME) with Babs waking up from a dream, which means the details of the dream were changed a bit to things most relevant in history, THUS the iPhone makes sense!!

JMS got a degree in Psychology, and I remember in my psy class years ago that dreams are like that – they are not “memories” they are just representations of them. DAMN he’s a genius!

  35. heckimlistening says:

I know, I know. But I love Hagar.

    • tomstewdevine says:

Chris Browne, the guy who currently writes the series lives in my hometown, Sioux Falls, SD. He has done a couple signings at the local book store, He is the nicest guy you could ever meet.

  36. Fallows1985 says:

okay, can someone tell me something I’ve just read on wikipedia about the Life on Mars finale for the US version, now for anyone who hasn’t seen it please scroll down cos I don’t wanna spoil anything

But did the really that take the show’s title to the extreme and end it on Mars?!

  37. Chris says:

Anyone else from the UK annoyed about there being no comics this week? I decided to pick up the Unwritten Vol.1 tbp and I purchased my first 2000 AD issue for probably 5 years!

    • Fallows1985 says:

damn you ash clouds lol yeah I was kind of disappointed but I was only getting a couple this week, I might pick up some British comics 2bh see what we have to offer lol

  38. cballsack says:

John Romita Sr.’s variant Avengers cover. I feel like his Thor could use some work.

    http://marvel.com/images/733381./from/content.story.12157

    • Locusmortis says:

this might sound like sacrelige….but I never thought that John Romita Sr was all that great. He drew gorgeous women but he didn’t really have the punch or dynamism of a Kirby or a Buscema.

      • Edward2962 says:

I agree that John wasn’t as innovative as Kirby or as flashy as some others but he was a solid artist. And he pretty much help define the house look of Marvel in the early-mid 70’s.He did alot of covers and character designs and tons of promo art.Even if you didn’t know it (and I didn’t until years later) you were exposed to his work.

        • phil says:

I think JRsr’s work dealt more with subtlety and nuance than it did with dynamism. When I get a vision of Spidey in my head, I first think of JR,s version, then Todd’s, then Ditko’s.

    • Venom829 says:

      Beautiful cover, horrible writer 🙂

    • Deemar says:

      Looks badass too me

JrJr can do no…well work with Mark Millar

  39. generaldark says:

    • generaldark says:

      this band needs more exposure

      • Pobra says:

Man, I’ve been repping Metric on here for a while now, they are an amazing band. Emily Haines’s solo stuff is quite good as well. She’s also in Broken Social Scene with Feist. Another great band.
Jose informed me that Metric will be doing a bunch of the music for the Scott Pilgrim movie. Should help them gain a bit more recognition.

    • Deemar says:

      That’s pretty damn good

  40. cballsack says:

Y’all wanna hear the worst cover ever? I’ve been in an 80s music mood all night and I came across this awful, truly awful rendition of Tears For Fears’s song “Head Over Heels,” as sung by Katy Perry.

  41. tomstewdevine says:

Whats everybody’s favorite single issue in the last month?

    Mine has definitely been SHIELD.

  42. cballsack says:

Anyone see this interview with Stan Lee about his feud with Steve Ditko over Spidey?

    • Deemar says:

Ross got to Stan you could tell he got a little pissed, as much as Stan lee can get pissed.

      Excelsior Mutha Fucker!

      • tomstewdevine says:

I suggest you watch the whole documentary, Searching for Ditko. The whole thing is great. There is a part where they talk about Dr. Strange and how is was Ditko’s idea alone, and Stan the Man didn’t think that it would be any good. But now Stan take credit as one of the creators.

  43. Ok, so remember when some of is were talking about the movie Audition in the last Open Thread? I had said that I had showed it to a couple my friends without telling them what it was about so I could watch the look of horror on their faces as the movie progressed. Well I have a movie for all of you guys to watch without telling you what is is about and I think some (if not most) of you will like it for what it is. The flick is called 2LDK. It is out on dvd but if you can’t find it someone was nice enough to upload it onto youtube. Here’s the first few parts:

  44. Deemar says:

This is cool online movie night

  45. Heck, I'm Listening says:

I just saw Clash of the Titans and am sad to say, Sam Worthington still cannot act.

I had forgotten the oaf was even in this. The orignal was a fond memory of mine, and Liam Nieson and Ralph Finnes are both very promising. Sadly, the end result was another casualty of Hollywood. Anyone that gives Worthington another big budget flick is nutso. The guy is utterly terrible.

  46. Mike F says:

We’re going 500 comments guys! 🙂 That’d make this thread historic!

  47. Mike F says:

this calls for epic credit roll music!

  48. SMARTASS8 says:

Is it just me or has Gail Simone lost weight?

    http://www.newsarama.com/common/media/video/player.php?aid=34762

I always thought she looked like she might have a pretty face if she lost some weight, but she kinda looks cute in this video. Either that or I’ve been in a dating deadzone for too long.

  49. kurumais says:

for anyone not watching archer on fx you are making a mistake

  50. Just a bit of warning: The weekend Open thread will be going up in about a half hour or so. As soon as that goes up please start posting over there…unless here are topics that started on here that you would still like to talk about. That is all.
