Is there as much TnA in the live action movie as there is in the anime? I usually only give blondes & redheads a second glance except when it comes to Japanese girls.
I was thinking about that as I was going through the books, seeing the press awards and such from 06 and 07 on book 4. It was pretty great just getting to go from one to the other, but I got through the end of number 5 and realized I have to wait till july after that ending. Plus the movie will start to gain buzz this summer, so it’s just going to be a loooooong wait
Ain’t that the truth. I saw the trailer in the theater for the first time this weekend (meaning on the big screen fr the first time) and it was amazing. Can’t wait.
I think Cera will do Scott justice. It just worries me how every volume is getting crammed into one flick. That’s a lot of ground to cover in 100 mins.
I actually refuse to see it. I would be proud of I were one of the 5% of the world that could go through their entire life without watching it. I have absolutely no interest in that flick. By your comment I can see I have made the right choice. Now only if I could say the same about Kick Ass…le sigh.
I’m proud to know someone who resisted the downfall of American cinema! I sadly was dragged by my friend to see it. I will never forgive the bastard, lol. Plus, I work in a video store so either we have the shitty Twilight flicks or Avatar clips on constant replay.
I can honestly tell you that it is one of the worst films I have ever seen and I have seen some trash.
I had people ask me to go with them to see the flick but I did RESIST. He he.
I used to work at a video store myself. It was a small ma and pop shop. I was good friends with the manager so he would let me bring in old subtitled Tai Seng Jackie Chan vhs tapes (when we worked together) that I bought from the comic shop I also worked at at the time and we would watch those in the store all night. Ah, those were good times.
Not to sound homo, but the first movie was pretty good. I actually took a girl on our second date to see the second one THAT MOVIE SUCKED BALLZZZ. I was lucky enough to miss a good portion of it cuz we made out the entire time, but what I saw was awful. Relationship was over after that can’t date someone who actually likes that lol
I’m straight and wasn’t forced to watch them by a significant other of the female persuasion but I saw both Twilight movies since I’m a sucker for shirtless men…uh…I mean werewolves. They reminded me of Bay’s Transformers movies. So much of the world seemed to love them but I thought each movie was shit with the sequel being worse than the original. Also, not to sound like Bendis, but I think that sourpuss bitch Kristen Stewart not only was the worst looking girl in the movies & can’t act for shit, but she needs a good ol’ kick in the cunt.
Bryce Dallas Howard is going to be in the next one. I hope someone makes a youtube video of all the scenes that she is in so I don’t need to see the whole movie.
I can’t believe she’s Clint Howard’s niece. Not only does she have some junk in the trunk, I find her one of the prettiest women in Hollywood. According to a Howard Stern interview, her current husband is the only guy she’s ever been with(her dad said the same thing about his wife). Even though that’s hard to believe after her full frontal sex scene in Manderlay, it’s refreshing and kind of makes her hotter to me. I blame my Madonna-whore complex on the 12 years of Catholic schooling I was forced to attend. LOL!
Poor Bryce! You know it’s a bad show when I found Rosie O’Donnell the most likable one on it. That dimwitted Republican from Survivor. The actress from Everybody Loves Raymond who said the Earth is flat and that Christianity was the first religion. Whoopi Goldberg who defended Polanski by saying what he did wasn’t “rape-rape”. Baba Wawa who looks down on and comments on celebrities who do stupid things even though she’s admitted to numerous affairs.
littlekingryan*, I have him on my car radio and still flip to him, but I just don’t like him as much as I used to. He’s better than nothing, but I think he worries a little too much about what his new “Hollywood” friends think and doesn’t seem to put his heart into the show as much as he used to. I don’t blame him for feeling rundown after doing what he does for so long, but for 100 million a year & working only 16 hours a week, he should be able to fake it a little better.
See, I wish we could do that kind of stuff. We’re mandated to only play “the hits.” When ‘the Blind Side’ and ‘Twilight’ are considered cinematic acheivements, I softly weep for our future.
I’m like Indiana Jones, I hate Nazis (as well as tats on chicks) but, for some unknown reason, I still found that mistress of Jesse James doable. I’d never want a relationship with her(or even be seen in public with her) but I find her attractive. Although I still find him stupid for cheating on Bullock. A Hollywood girl who I’ve never heard any bad things about(how rare is that), is a nice combination of girl next door cute & classic beauty, and still looks hot as hell in her mid-40’s.
OK. I haven’t posted on the blog for a few days and I come back spewing how I find Gail Simone, Japanese cosplayers, and inked Nazis attractive. I’m scared to keep posting in case I start discussing the sexiness of Bugs Bunny in drag.
That rubbed me the wrong way, but it wasn’t the main thing that got me, it was that the kid wasn’t the focal point of “HIS” story. He was basically a big black prop.
Even though I already saw him in Adventureland, the kid at the start of the trailer is always going to be the guy in those phone service commercials whose mom is worried about “extra minutes”.
Not the bandwagon of you going all Kraven and offing yourself, Jose, I meant the hate for Twilight and Blindside….just want to clear that up, it read kind of funny to me where the comment came just after yours…..geez, why am i becoming so damn politically correct all of a sudden?
It seems like the Blindside is older white women’s way of feeling like they helped someone. They buy a copy of the film in hopes that they may appear to be liberal and open minded.
Although, even though I agree with everything he said, I also hate the extreme Liberals who will have candlelight vigils for serial killers on deathrow, give numerous second chances to pedophiles, and won’t eat eggs because it’s cruel to chickens are also first in line to vote for late term abortion in all types of cases. I just hate extremeists from both sides. I’m left leaning but I really wish a viable third party came onto the US political lanscape. The last 2 presidential elections have been the lesser of 2 evils imho.
Fuck I haven’t seen Twilight, The Blindside or Avatar… and it sounds like I’m better for it! How do you poor souls get conned in to watching such tripe? (says the guy who just went to see Kick-Ass last week) 🙂
You’re not alone. I refused to see Avatar as well. I have friends who’ve seen it multiple times. That only strengthened my resolve not to see it, cuz I know their tastes suck.
I’ll only watch it if it comes on HBO. And only if Golden Girls ain’t on.
I was going to be like you Jose, but I’m such a movie nut, I knew my disdain for Cameron as a person or my being unimpressed with the trailer wouldn’t keep me away for long. Avatar wasn’t the worst movie I’ve ever seen but I found Jurassic Park from 1983 more groundbreaking and immersive than it. I think I even liked Phantom Menace more than Avatar and I HATTTEEEE Jake Lloyd. Even though I’m somewhat curious about Ghost Writer, I think knowing that Polanski directed it will let me keep my movie ban for once. I hope I read some more shitty things about JoeyQ so I have an excuse not to see Iron Man 2.
BTW, if I’m understanding your last post, Jose, did you see Kick Ass? I’ve been away from the blog for a few days and didn’t know if you reviewed it or not.
No, I didn’t think it was shit at all. I thought it was one of those rare effects-driven blockbuster movies where you forget the effects because you actually become invested in the story, the emotions of the characters, and truly feel something for the plight of the natives. It brought up real emotions in me as an audience member, and I think that makes it successful beyond what box office numbers say. I go to the movies to be entertained, and I go to feel something. I like thought-provoking films as well, but I don’t always need to be challenged, sometimes it’s perfectly okay to sit back, turn off your critical mind, and enjoy. I was sucked into the story. I wanted those military fuckers to get their comeuppance in the end. I wanted the Na’Vi to kick their asses and I was exhilarated by some of the flying and treetop sequences, the rallying of the troops, and the final battle. I’m not being facetious, and I’m not trying to trash you guys for not enjoying the film, but I hope you can respect that it worked for me on several levels.
Somemtimes things are popular not because the masses of viewers are ignorant fucks who will eat anything that is spoonfed to them. Sometimes things are popular because they actually succeed both as technological achievements and involving stories.
It may not be your cup of tea, but if you’re judging something before you’ve even seen it can come off as a bit close-minded and elitist. It’s like the people who hate the bands they used to love just because everyone else found out about them. Popularity and mass appeal does not always equal mediocrity. Sometimes things succeed because they’re well-made, and because they work as immersive entertainment.
Or maybe it was just the 3D. 🙂
I can’t eat up stuff just for pretty visuals. It was more of an amusement park ride than a film. Sam Worthington still can’t act, Sigourney Weaver (the one good thing in the film) had a non-role. The smurfs looked like big cartoon characters. I felt like it was trying to hard to be Braveheart in space.
I respect that you liked it though. To each their own.
It did remind me of Braveheart a bit. I felt some of the same visceral hatred for the baddies in Avatar as I did in Braveheart. I’d still rate Braveheart way higher, though. Avatar was definitely a film that loses a lot when it’s not seen on the big screen.
Well I agree about not seeing Avatar…the way the movie was billed you had to see this movie because it was the greatest cinematic masterpiece of all time. Who says? I think movies should build their own hype not have it force fed down our mouths by a media campaign. In fact, I’m proud to say I didn’t see it and I’d tell James Cameron off if I ever met him
You’re not elitist, you just like what you like. Unlike you Jose, I don’t find Fraction or Kirkman good writers. Does that make me elitist? No. It just makes me someone with “bad taste”.LOL! I thought I’d either print what you were thinking or save you the time of replying.
Actually I only really like Fraction’s work on Iron man and Punisher War Journal. His Uncanny is shit. Kirkman’s work on Invincible and Destoryer is great but I’m not really a fan of his other Marvel work or the Astounding Wolf Man. They are just as fallible as anyone else.
i enjoyed avatar but i hated seeing it in 3D, i had my glasses off the whole time. luckily they make it so its still watchable without wearing the glasses when your suppose to have them on lol. I didnt think it was shit but i hear he wants to make a sequal? count me out on that.
I never watched Everybody Hates Chris when it was running but since it’s now in syndication on a local Chicago station as well as on Nick@Nite, I’ve seen a lot of it recently. It’s not bad. The funny thing is how deep the voice of the kid playing Chris got by the last season. His voice is deeper than the Chris Rock of today.
I agree about Chris Rock being an awful actor. He might be one of the worst actors that ever started as a standup. No wonder he wasn’t memorable on Saturday Night Live. His more recent HBO specials have been disappointing but “Bring The Pain” might be one of the best standup specials ever.
Well, seeing how Bakugon has started on Cartoon Network I think it’s time for me to go to bed. Have to wake up in 5 hours to go to work. Talk to you lads tomorrow.
Yeah, he’s great. I think I heard either you or E mention that in one of the videos. I’m sure that book is going to do well even without him out there pimping it. He has a co-author I hear is going places.
Does anyone here watch The Mighty Boosh?
I’m not going to post any clips because I haven’t seen it yet, but it was highly recommended to me by a friend. I’m thinking of picking up the first season, but I need a second opinion before I do, and I trust most of your opinions. Most. 😉
Cool, thanks Didio and Jose, that’s all the endorsement I need. I’m actually from Canada, but I really enjoy British comedy. Hehe funny, the person who recommended the show to me is a huge fucking stoner. Guess I’ll have to roll one up before viewing.
im reading this book now among the thugs by bill buford
about football hooligans its really good
so far he is hanging out with man u fans
i got to say reading the first couple of chapters WTF would anyone go to a match !!!????
great topic so far well written and well told without looking down on these guys he is trying to get to know
i would say a must read for any footie fans especially a man u fan/intercity jibers like j
or even a sports fan in general
Never been a big football fan, but I am fully engrossed in the NHL playoffs right now. And Toronto isn’t even in it, but they’ve sucked for years now, so I’m used to rooting for another team.
Wow, I bet that comment just completely alienated me, don’t think there are too many hockey fans on the blog. But keep in mind, I’m Canadian, the shit is in my blood!
Christ Locus, you make it sound like they’re a bunch of paint huffing, thalidomide victims. While I don’t expect them to do overly well, it would be nice. Never been one to support the heavy favorites anyway.
what do you think of this clip from the jack benny show? i was in the mood for old school comedy the other day and was watching jack benny and groucho marx clips. folks seem split on the clip of rochester buying jack a christmas present some saying its racist others saying its just plain funny from what ive seen of the jack benny show i think rochester is just damn funny
since we had a bunch comedy clip and lots of brothers
Alot of comedy from the 50’s,40’s,30’s etc did portray black ppl as caricatures or buffoons. Many folks have an automatic reaction when we see something from that era and the black man is seen as subservient. That’s probably why some folks see it as racist.( someone could on for hours about mass media images and social conditioning) As a black person, I don’t think this clip is that bad.
i think its a great gag from vaudevillian era comedy (all those comedians at the time came out of vaudeville)
someone posted that they used that bit like a decade before on the radio show
i love all that old stuff the marx brother jack benny laurel and hardy wc feilds burns and allen
I’m not an expert.I’ve seen Duck Soup,You Can’t Cheat an Honest Man,and My Little Chickedee. Most of want I know about those entertainers comes from TV specials about the “golden” age. Bringing back to comics, you might want to check out reprints of Cerebus by Dave Sim.There’s a character in some of the stories named Lord Julius who’s clearly based on Grouch Marx.
oh ive read him sim did a great groucho he also had lord leordo and adolph chico and harpo but groucho worked best
and they arent mention on any of the marx brother wiki pages under in other media thing references which i think its a shame because dave sim did such a good job and clearly loves the brothers marx and cerebus was such a great book
So who read the new issue of Brave and Bold and thought they were reading an issue of Phonogram? I loved Phonogram so this issue was very familiar to me. It was like seeing an old friend. Seems to me that JMS is writing better issues since that Atom and Joker one. I mean I liked the Atom and Joker one, but I wasn’t crazy about it. Since that issue he has been writing better almost comparable to his first couple of issues. IMO
Seriously though, Downfall is actually a pretty good movie that absolutely no one in the States would have seen without the popularity of these YouTube clips.
Has anyone seen the shortlived one camera sitcom on ABC called Sons & Daughters? It was on a few years ago and I loved it. This guy from the PS commercials was on it.
This is all too common an occurrence with these extremists. They put a fatwa on any cartoonist who has the gall to depict (BEEP) in any form. If I ever feel like killing myself, I’ll just create a (BEEP) comic. Suicide by cartooning.
Yeah, it would be me sitting at a drawing table for hours on end (think time-lapse) and occasionally masturbating to internet porn. About as enlightening as most reality tv.
Thanks for ruining it for me! I haven;t read it yet! An iPhone spoiler alert would have been nice.
He he, just kidding. I’ll get back to you on that after I read it. Comics have been doing a lot of that retcon bullshit lately. Just look at Superman Secret Origin.
I was kidding. I flipped through it and figured if Barbara was in it it was before Killing Joke. No worries.
I bought a new manga this week I think you should check out. It’s called “Kingyo Used Books Vol. 1”. I may do a review of it in the next couple of days.
Comic books are timeless, dude. It’s like Burton’s first Batman film, where they all this modern equipment in the Batcave but the cars that the general public drove around in were all from the 70s.
The iPhone is present due to a time paradox created when the Flash entered the Speed Force in Flash (vol.2) #153. Certain elements of our present day time were fused with the 80s Earth One. Duh.
All in all its comic book logic, I guess the question is, how does a woman with a yellow rope make people tell the truth by wrapping them with it, rather than why’s there an iPhone in the 80’s… lol
Y’know, that brings up an interesting thing I heard someone say (I think it was Steve Englehart) about Wonder Woman on a recent Wordballoon. They were talking about how kinky William Moulton Marston (creator of WW) was and how WW’s “lasso of truth” is not really a lasso at all. It’s a whip.
Rucka calls it a whip too. Marston was an interesting cat. He did believe that women were the dominant species (not that there is anything wrong with that). I am reading a book right now called “Wonder Woman: Amazon, Hero, Icon” and will hopefully have a review for it in the coming weeks. It gets into Marston’s personal life a bit.
Oh, his personal life. There’s an interesting subject, and could probably be a book all it’s own. And all the bondage and spanking involved in early WW covers. I read the Wonder Woman book by Les Daniels that was a part of the Complete History series that Chronicle books published a bit back: http://www.amazon.com/Wonder-Woman-Complete-History-Daniels/dp/0811829138. Very intriguing stuff. I recommend it.
I dated a girl a while back who knew all about the lore of Marston and Wonder Woman. It was cool for a while. Too bad she turned out to be fucking insane.
Ya, ya, too much information but I felt the need to share that.
You dated a chick who was into comic book history? And let her go?? What the hell could she have done to make you kick her to the curb? I thought insane chicks were supposed to be fun.
I read a article online a while back that sort of talked about he early days of Wonder Woman and all of the bondage themes. It was a good read but I can’t for the life of me remember what site it was posted on.
J/Lkr that does sound like an interesting movie and it could have broad (I.E. none fanboy) appeal especially to women, they can see a movie tangentially about Wonder Woman and get a bio flick at the same time.
Well, look at the design of Wonder Woman: High heeled boots, bustier and a whip. You guys know how much I love Wonder Woman but I do actually think her “look” is an outdated concept of feminism. She does need a redesign to reflect current concepts and ideas of feminism.
I do agree. I actually think her boots are cool tho. her and the Flash have cool boots in my opinion. But her outfit really is outdated and a really strange mash of colors and clothing. I mean, I think looking good is a great quality for a woman but she’s a natural beauty she doesn’t need to fly around in a golden breastplate and star-spangled panties to get attention. I truly think her morals and way of speaking just makes her such a great addition to the super-hero community.
I always wondered if anyone tried to change her look at any point… or wanted to at least. It might be one of those issues where DC won’t let anyone change her outfit
I think maybe they should stop drawing her tits so big, thats only really happened since Lynda Carter, before that they were less Power girl-esque and make her more lean and athletic (not over-muscled either)
Well her current costume isn’t dreadful, just a few updates here and there. I think a woman can have morals and be sexy. But that’s me, in this day in age, some people don’t think that way. They think they need a more universally accepted look.
In my own part, however, I just think the colors don’t match. Get the colors matching I’ll be fine with it really.
Remember they changed her costume in the 70’s to a more contemporary suit and some of the then feminist didn’t like it. (the fact that DC took away her powers didn’t help)
I think putting straps on that bustier so it doesn’t look like her tits are gonna spill out would be a good start. And make sure Ed Benes never gets to draw her with the star spangled thong again.
Naw, I did it a little while ago. Penciljack sometimes has a “draw a character” thread where everyone does their version of a chosen character. I had to participate when Pris came up. I love Blade Runner.
Jose is like a drunken step-father. One minute you’re at the ball game eating cracker jacks, the next minute you’re shivering in a corner while he threatens you with a broom handle. 😛
Well, I just became aware of Romulus in Dark Wolverine and that has to be the shittiest shit that ever shat. Man what a dumb looking villain. I used to read Wolverine back in 92 but stopped givin’ a shit around the “feral” period. Since gettin’ back into comics in 2006 I know next to nothing about him. Like I remember reading the Wikipedia to catch up and there’s all this James Howlett shit that made me just shake my head.
I used to think Daken was stupid. He still is but this Romulus fucker is goddamn ridiculous. I giggle.
Also, that Spirit comic is the most tolerable of these First Wave books I’ve read. That part where he’s eating a hotdog looks like garbage.
Probably a bit late on this but Doc Savage was utter shit. BAD 90s art with the weirdest lookin’ kids I’ve seen since that recent Fantastic Four birthday party. Or maybe I’m just spoiled from reading Tom Strong and the older Doc Savage stuff.
Bagge’s Other Lives: Kinda soggy. Didn’t really enjoy that one.
Man, that Doc Savage book was complete shit, wasn’t it? What the fuck were they thinking with that book? I may review on here in he next couple of days to tell people to stay away from it.
Meh, this is sometimes the bad thing about advance ordering, sometimes you get stuck with a lemon. At least I’ll be able to cancel before #3. I was looking for something to cut so as to give the new Chris Sprouse Tom Strong book a try.
Let me concur and add to your hate with some of mine own. Dark Wolverine is nigh unreadable when Stephen “God I wish I was Leinil Yu so bad I’d eat the peanuts out of his shit” Segovia is on art chores. That clone shit just annoys me no end.
Doc Savage has always been a mystery to me, I read the books as a kid and thought they where OK. He just doesn’t have much a personality, he the clean cut Batman, without a costume and well adjusted. I don’t know if he will ever translate well into today’s comics.
I saw the poster for this two days ago at the movie theater and I seriously couldn’t believe my eyes, this is like some kind of parody movie you would see on Southpark.
Ahem…you know, I am all about the belief that people are shaped and molded into the people they are today by things they experienced in there youth. This video has, I think, helped me realize the the truth behind some of my beliefs. Le sigh…
They sure were. Star Wars films were good, Linda Carter was running around making me into the man I am today, Battle of the Planets had a cross dresser as it’s villain(who were actually two separate people in the Japanese version mixed into one for the US) and Spectreman had ultraviolence that didn’t make me into a sociopath. Very good times. 🙂
so i read the new green lantern and….omg that was probally the worst issue i read. i know it was all set up and i expected that but not that much set up!!! i did not like how sinestro made his apperance in this, the most ridiciulus entrance ever!! Manke’s art is getting worst with the charecter designs. his layouts and stuff are great. Im a big supporter for jons and brightest day but i expected a hell of alot more from GL.
Awkward cuddling? Is that anything like getting kneed in the yambags and getting literally kicked out of bed after the deed is done? If so…ya, that awkward cuddling shit sucks.
Meet a girl in bar, she wasn’t anything special, but she was cute and she seemed interested in me, which was kind of strange, since I was usually a drunk idiot back in my Army days. She told me she was divorced because her husband was screwing around on her. OK, no problem there, we end up hooking up and going back to her place. It was a little strange because she was still living on base.
I go into her apartment, and I look around, she hands me a beer. I notice she still has pictures on the wall or her and another man I assume is her husband. The guy is a captain in the air force.
<>
Afterward we are laying in her bad and I ask her about the pictures on her wall.
“thats my husband.”
“the one you divorced?”
“well, we are not excatlly divorced yet.”
“what?”
“well I know he was cheating on me, but I just wanted to get back at him. but don’t worry, I won’t tell him about us.”
“but the only way you get back at him is if he does find out about us.”
“Don’t worry about that.”
“Hold me!”
Sorry ’bout the dbl posting, though I wonder why the emoticon shows in some postings when you type the right characters , but it just shows up as as the initial characters in others……..conspiracy theorists, unite 🙂
Marvel has no limits when it comes to how much they hate comic book readers. In July they are releasing a $3.99 book called “LADY DEADPOOL”. Are they fucking kidding me how much respect do they have for us. That book is going to be the worst book ever. Really getting sick of Deadpool and I’m glad I’m not supporting him by not buying any books he’s in. There my rant is done sorry guys.
no joke Jose I’m pretty close to just completely stop reading Marvel books although it’ll be tough doing that seeing there are still a few good ones left. Did you see that Agents of Atlas gets relaunched next month I’m actually going to pick it up this time. Read the trades of the previous series I’m mad I didn’t read them sooner.
I just read the new Brave and the Bold. I give it an A+. Call me sentimental, call me a pussy, or just call me a sensitive soul, but that ending brought tears to my eyes. I welled up a little bit. I really did. Zatanna and her Cassandra Complex. The origin of Barbara’s post-Batwoman name. The pieces fit together very well for me. This is what good storytelling in comics is about. Bravo, JMS and Chiang. Bravo indeed.
And on that note, I’m gonna put on my nightly Stern and fall asleep to it. Should knock the sentimentality right out of me…
Later on, LKR
Brave and the bold 33 ended (HERE THEY COME) with Babs waking up from a dream, which means the details of the dream were changed a bit to things most relevant in history, THUS the iPhone makes sense!!
JMS got a degree in Psychology, and I remember in my psy class years ago that dreams are like that – they are not “memories” they are just representations of them. DAMN he’s a genius!
Also, I dug out the Killing Joke last nite since there was (spoilers… possibly) reference to it in Brave and Bold 33, and while I read it, South park was playing and I noticed something.
That is quite awesome. And coincidental. I wonder if the colors of that sequence were changed at all in the re-mastered edition Bolland tweaked a few years back.
Chris Browne, the guy who currently writes the series lives in my hometown, Sioux Falls, SD. He has done a couple signings at the local book store, He is the nicest guy you could ever meet.
okay, can someone tell me something I’ve just read on wikipedia about the Life on Mars finale for the US version, now for anyone who hasn’t seen it please scroll down cos I don’t wanna spoil anything
But did the really that take the show’s title to the extreme and end it on Mars?!
Anyone else from the UK annoyed about there being no comics this week? I decided to pick up the Unwritten Vol.1 tbp and I purchased my first 2000 AD issue for probably 5 years!
damn you ash clouds lol yeah I was kind of disappointed but I was only getting a couple this week, I might pick up some British comics 2bh see what we have to offer lol
this might sound like sacrelige….but I never thought that John Romita Sr was all that great. He drew gorgeous women but he didn’t really have the punch or dynamism of a Kirby or a Buscema.
I agree that John wasn’t as innovative as Kirby or as flashy as some others but he was a solid artist. And he pretty much help define the house look of Marvel in the early-mid 70’s.He did alot of covers and character designs and tons of promo art.Even if you didn’t know it (and I didn’t until years later) you were exposed to his work.
I think JRsr’s work dealt more with subtlety and nuance than it did with dynamism. When I get a vision of Spidey in my head, I first think of JR,s version, then Todd’s, then Ditko’s.
Man, I’ve been repping Metric on here for a while now, they are an amazing band. Emily Haines’s solo stuff is quite good as well. She’s also in Broken Social Scene with Feist. Another great band.
Jose informed me that Metric will be doing a bunch of the music for the Scott Pilgrim movie. Should help them gain a bit more recognition.
Y’all wanna hear the worst cover ever? I’ve been in an 80s music mood all night and I came across this awful, truly awful rendition of Tears For Fears’s song “Head Over Heels,” as sung by Katy Perry.
Definitely one of the best I’ve read in a while. Hey, is the set up to the story in Doomwar coming out of any other books besides Black Panther? I’d like to pick up any recent back stories.
It was incredible, It took me to my childhood and going to the Missouri river with all the family and friends, being there every weekend in the summer.
I wish I knew what the overall idea is with Daytripper, is it that bras is thinking of different times that he could have died in his life, or is it that he is putting himself in the obituaries that he writes, or is the book just exploring life and death. I don’t exactly know, but this book is outstanding.
I am thinking that Bras’ death in every story is symbolic of an important change in his life. The death of his father, the birth of his son, his first love, his first kiss…I could be reading too much into it though.
After reading Daytripper #5 I think the key with what is happening to Bras might have more to do with his father, than anything Bras is doing. Just a strange thought that enter my head after this latest issue.
I suggest you watch the whole documentary, Searching for Ditko. The whole thing is great. There is a part where they talk about Dr. Strange and how is was Ditko’s idea alone, and Stan the Man didn’t think that it would be any good. But now Stan take credit as one of the creators.
Ok, so remember when some of is were talking about the movie Audition in the last Open Thread? I had said that I had showed it to a couple my friends without telling them what it was about so I could watch the look of horror on their faces as the movie progressed. Well I have a movie for all of you guys to watch without telling you what is is about and I think some (if not most) of you will like it for what it is. The flick is called 2LDK. It is out on dvd but if you can’t find it someone was nice enough to upload it onto youtube. Here’s the first few parts:
Never heard of Visitor Q. But Suicide Club, yes, that was another decent flick. It’s funny, I actually watched all those films around the same time. I was in an Asian horror mood for like a month.
I’ll be sure to check it out. Right after I find a copy of Tokyo Gore Police. Some random dude walked up to me in NYC and said I need to watch Tokyo Gore Police. I took that as a sign.
Vistor Q is a pretty messed up movie, a lot of people think Ichi the Killer is Miike’s craziest movie, but I have always felt that Vistor Q is his most twisted work.
I just saw Clash of the Titans and am sad to say, Sam Worthington still cannot act.
I had forgotten the oaf was even in this. The orignal was a fond memory of mine, and Liam Nieson and Ralph Finnes are both very promising. Sadly, the end result was another casualty of Hollywood. Anyone that gives Worthington another big budget flick is nutso. The guy is utterly terrible.
I always thought she looked like she might have a pretty face if she lost some weight, but she kinda looks cute in this video. Either that or I’ve been in a dating deadzone for too long.
Heh, funny thing is most of my Street Fighter battles went like that clip. Always fighting the guy who always had to play Ken. I would spend hours trying all the different characters trying to beat all of Ken’s cheap moves.
Jeez! I’m sorry! I didn’t even think about the fact that the interview was done by the Comic Book Club guys. I haven’t really even checked them out since I started coming here. Although, Alex of CBC posted on this blog a week or so ago so I doubt there’s any JoeyQ animosity going on(at least on their side).
I do like Alex and Justin’s reviews most of the time. Ya, I saw when Alex posted on here. That was pretty cool of him to thank you guys for checking his book out.
No, I didn’t think you were mad, but I still probably wouldn’t have posted “the competition” on here if I’d thought twice about it just out of respect. It’d be like going to your store and talking about how great the Graham Crackers chain is.
Thor and the Warriors Four (Alex’s book) was actually really good. I enjoyed it and will be buying the rest of the series. I loved the Pet Avenger’s cameo 😛
Just a bit of warning: The weekend Open thread will be going up in about a half hour or so. As soon as that goes up please start posting over there…unless here are topics that started on here that you would still like to talk about. That is all.
Naw it ain’t. You must mean my blog. Which blog? Why, the one you can get to simply by clicking my name, of course. You’ll want to right-click and open in a new window or tab, though. **exit self-promo mode promobot power down**
J.
That looks f*cking nuts! I see at the end of the trailer it said 2004, did it ever come out here? I haven’t had a good seizure since Speed Racer.
It did come out on dvd here. It is a fun and awesome movie.
J.
Is there as much TnA in the live action movie as there is in the anime? I usually only give blondes & redheads a second glance except when it comes to Japanese girls.
The movie doesn’t have really have that much TnA compared to the anime. It’s more like an action/comedy.
J.
From the anime Macross Plus (Spoilers Ahead):
J.
Just finished books 3-5 of the scott pilgrim series tonight. I think the wait till july 20th may kill me
He he. I’ve been waiting way longer than you. Think how I feel. 🙂
J.
I hate to sound greedy, but I really wish Scott Pilgrim wasn’t ending!!
Agreed!
See what I did there? 🙂
J.
Can’t wait.
J.
I think Cera will do Scott justice. It just worries me how every volume is getting crammed into one flick. That’s a lot of ground to cover in 100 mins.
I fucking hated AVatar. I envy anyone who didn’t see it.
🙂
J.
Did anyone else think James Cameron’s Avatar was a pile of shit?
I actually refuse to see it. I would be proud of I were one of the 5% of the world that could go through their entire life without watching it. I have absolutely no interest in that flick. By your comment I can see I have made the right choice. Now only if I could say the same about Kick Ass…le sigh.
J.
J.
Who doesn’t love twilight?
Seriously
I may be a douchebag for liking Avatar, but I can’t go with you there….
Jeebus D, please tell me you are kidding. Please…
J.
I’m not going to lie. I love twilight. LOVE. IT. I can’t get enough. I even had a release party for both dvd’s at midnight when they came out.
To each their own. Plus, you’re of the female persuasion, no? Not to say that only girls like Twilight, but it certainly helps…
Me, cause I like having my pride and my testicles. 😛
J.
LOL!
She is amazing.
J.
And she expressed interest in playing Dara if they ever made a movie of The Sword. Amazing that she even knows about that book.
Smartass- do you listen to as much Stern as I do?
littlekingryan*, I have him on my car radio and still flip to him, but I just don’t like him as much as I used to.
So in other words: yes. 🙂
See, I wish we could do that kind of stuff. We’re mandated to only play “the hits.” When ‘the Blind Side’ and ‘Twilight’ are considered cinematic acheivements, I softly weep for our future.
When did ya stop working at the vid store?
Blind side ugh, that movie is cursed I say, Sandy Bullock made a deal with Bezzle bub for that to succeed.
It’s a Liftime yarn with a couple extra bucks tossed it’s way. Yuck.
Bullock is still hot though.
Lifetime*
She is doable
Although her husband thought otherwise
Ouch! Ya, he was really into tattooed whore Nazis.
J.
That just makes no sense, I’ve seen pics of the mistress she is nasty
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Skank Poon
You say “tattooed whore Nazis” like that’s a bad thing.
That douche bag doesn’t know how good he had it, lol.
No shit, Chet. No shit… 🙂
J.
I found the movie patronizing. Oh those nice, rich liberal white folks take in a big, black, underpriveleged youth. How noble! How…Oscar-worthy.
That rubbed me the wrong way, but it wasn’t the main thing that got me, it was that the kid wasn’t the focal point of “HIS” story. He was basically a big black prop.
Yeah, he had about three lines in the entire film.
Even then they probaly dubbed over his voice lol
that poor shlub
But is was a true story.
J.
Yeah true story HIS story not the Sandra Bullock campaigns for a Oscar story
Carey Mulligan should have gotten Best Actress.
Agree 100%
Oh, my bad. I thought IT WAS based on a white woman’s story of using an African American kid’s story to win her an Oscar. I stand corrected.
J.
That’s what I got from it.
lol
Isn’t the plot of Diff’rent Strokes?
Wha’chu talkin bout?
lol
I didn’t think of that
fuck it is!
Holy fuck, if I had to watch the Blind Side and Twilight I really think I would have to go all Kraven the Hunter.
J.
Now this is a bandwagon I can jump on! 😮
Check this
Shit didn’t work!
I hate YOUTUBE!!!
looks like its going to be funny as hell
Epic
Brody does Batman better than batman
That looks pretty cool. Totally got the Rorschach voice going on.
Adrian Brody is back baby!
Predators now this it’s gonna be a good year for him.
Alls youz need is a beer buddy
Plus your becoming good pals with a black nerd, ME!
It’s Obama effect lol!
Or you would go blind from the god awfulness and your balls would shoot up your body
It seems like the Blindside is older white women’s way of feeling like they helped someone. They buy a copy of the film in hopes that they may appear to be liberal and open minded.
He he, how true.
J.
white guilt?
I swear to Odin, they swarm together and talk about how great a woman Sandra Bullock’s character is.
Hollywood-ized bullshit.
I wouldn’t say that more of a way to make themselves feel good about the world.
You might be on to something.
All the ladies at my job (Of the caucasian persuasion) love Blind Side and I know most of them are Republicans.
It’s Carlin Time!
J.
My man!
Good memory I love…Carlin he’s in my comedy Holy Trinity
“Once your born, your on your own heh!”
God, I love Carlin. A true wordsmith as well as a comedic and satiric genius. Spoken for truth!
I’m on the deviantart if ya want we need to get jose on there also
That was great! I love Carlin!
ALL of those movies have came out of hollywood’s bum. 🙂
You’re not alone. I refused to see Avatar as well. I have friends who’ve seen it multiple times. That only strengthened my resolve not to see it, cuz I know their tastes suck.
I’ll only watch it if it comes on HBO. And only if Golden Girls ain’t on.
Jose my friend I am proud to be apart of that 5% of people that have never seen Avatar. Huzzzuh!
And your better than the 95% who has.
Diddo
Yes, I did see it. No, I did not review. Let’s just say I didn’t like it. It was just as terrible as I thought it would be.
J.
I liked Avatar well enough, Colonel Quairitch was my favorite badguy of the year so far.
Ermmm…I think then I may be the text book definition of elitist. Oh well… 😛
J.
Dude you just have rarified tastes
Like a food critic
I’m really not trying to call you names or anything, my friend. I just couldn’t jump on the bandwagon with that one.
Braveheart one of my all time favorite movies (Mel Gibson’s insanity excluded) I’ve watched that movie so much I thought I was Scottish.
Epic..movie
Well I agree about not seeing Avatar…the way the movie was billed you had to see this movie because it was the greatest cinematic masterpiece of all time. Who says? I think movies should build their own hype not have it force fed down our mouths by a media campaign. In fact, I’m proud to say I didn’t see it and I’d tell James Cameron off if I ever met him
I think the word elitist in this context is defined as a person who takes the content and quality of entertainment seriously.
J.
I really liked Destroyer, too. Don’t read AWM. But Walking Dead is pretty damn sweet, so don’t forget about that one.
Ah, true dat.
J.
i enjoyed avatar but i hated seeing it in 3D, i had my glasses off the whole time. luckily they make it so its still watchable without wearing the glasses when your suppose to have them on lol. I didnt think it was shit but i hear he wants to make a sequal? count me out on that.
It was so long it was like reading a Bendis comic, with the only great thing being the visuals. EPIC FAIL!!!!
Smell my finger
Ewwww…gross.
J.
J all I got to say is ELECTROLYTES
are needed had a good day indeed
Hey Dee, I just got your latest email. In a word: EPIC.
Dude mine mind is flowing!
I seriously think this thing is gonna be amazing and when you get to designing my god! What Have WE WROUGHT!?
Eh…NO
One of my favorite Carlin bits ever.
J.
Man I wish he was still here Carlin doing a show with Dick Gregory or Paul Mooney would be a gas
I fucking miss Carlin man. I really do.
J.
Ya’know todays my day off I think today is a comedy day, all day
Have you seen Capitalism: A Love Story?
Loved it. That’s Mikey Moore at his best.
Yep watched it about a week ago
Mikey Moore never dissappoints
Right on, brother. One of my favorite clips too.
His observations seem to become more relevant with each passing year.
Bill Hicks was another one who called it like it is. I miss him too.
i love bill too j reminds me of him a bit when he gets going
I feel like we need some Richard Pryor.
Lol
dude I grew up on this stuff!
we aint topping a 6 month $#@& sh!^ lol
J.
What was this from?
Richard Pryor show
Sky Cake
patton is doing a comic about walsh from firefly
thats pretty cool
Lol Chris brings the truth
so funny yet can’t act to save his life
The remake of Death at a Funeral looked terrible.
I’m sure it is, the only movie of his I enjoyed was Pootie Tang and that was for the pure joy of how bad it was yet it made me laugh
I like some of Everybody Hates Chris, but I guess that doesn’t count? He’s not really in it.
I like his tv show, he’s simple doing the voice over so his humor shines through.
Plus, the kid playing him is pretty funny himself.
Yeah the kid is pretty good, but Terry Crews the dad makes that show for me at least.
seen his old spice commercial
lmao!
His more recent HBO specials have been disappointing but “Bring The Pain” might be one of the best standup specials ever.
everybody hates chris is great and its sooooo brooklyn
lol
he was good in caprica. and now he writes comic books…
oswald is spreading his reach
His SNL bit where he was talking Hilary vs. Obama was lol
That was hysterical, the whole rims on toasters bit.
hey didn’t get your post about being on chat…got caught up on Carlin clips…which led to Bill Maher…
Cool
Arg i love this movie
Never seen this Monty Python?
Nah
Nah, it was actually a show on the BBC in the 60s. It got cancelled almost instantly, and for good reason. Lol.
Lol
Ah…seriously?
lol
I love Maria Bamford.
J.
Love these guys
Big is on Sarah Silverman show
Bamford is a odd chick i dig her crazy
I love Bamford, too. She did a series of ten-fifteen minute shorts for Comedy Central called the Maria Bamford show that was pretty good. Also, I really dug her Christmas special: Maria Bamford’s One-Hour Homemade Christmas Special! from Maria Bamford on Vimeo.
some non-american comedy 😉
Carr is ok I prefer John Oliver
what about John Bishop
At the risk of offending someone, I rank this guy higher than those two
Where were you when I posted Frankie Boyle videos a few days ago 😛
He used to be great on Mock the Week
Well, seeing how Bakugon has started on Cartoon Network I think it’s time for me to go to bed. Have to wake up in 5 hours to go to work. Talk to you lads tomorrow.
J.
See ya, man. I’m gonna put on my nightly Howard Stern torrent and turn in as well….Later, all.
holla J
And like that he’s gone,,,
I think this is the 1st time I’ve been on where there’s been already more than a hundred comments posted. Why didn’t y’ll wake me?
Insomnia
That is middle name.
I am now going to brag that Scott Snyder commented on my blog post: http://littlekingryan.wordpress.com/2010/04/20/new-comics-day-421/#comment-32.
Boo-yah!
Snyder posted on here last week too.
J.
There you go stealing my thunder. Just can’t let me have anything, can you? 🙂
Seriously, though, that guy’s really making the rounds.
He actually sent us an email about a month ago after he heard our American Vampire #1 review. 😛
J.
Most. 😉
It is awesome. Are you from the US though? I don’t know how it would translate. I see it as very light hearted, whacky comedy, ideal for stoners.
Cool, thanks Didio and Jose, that’s all the endorsement I need. I’m actually from Canada, but I really enjoy British comedy. Hehe funny, the person who recommended the show to me is a huge fucking stoner. Guess I’ll have to roll one up before viewing.
I’ve seen all the episodes. Love that show. Milky Joe FTW!
J.
Hah hah!
My girlfriend went to a desert isalnd themed party on Friday and made a milky joe replica as her costume
He he, that sounds awesome!
J.
I’m Ol’ GREG!
ya’ love me?
I love ya’
I’m gonna hurt you…
I like ya’
I love the chosen one, loving him is fun fun fun!
J.
Ok, I’m sold. Picking up season 1 tomorrow.
Lmao
the best show on Adult Swim period
I’m still a Tim and Eric man, but the Boosh is alright.
Did somebody say boosh?
J.
boosh? again, don’t worry it never gets old.
Ya, it’s my thing.
J.
Who needs cable when you have CCW Youtube embeds?
I don’t a little ccw here, a little torrents there. It all works out.
I’m completely convinced Tim & Eric is strictly made for meth heads.
That show is a cipher, funny sure but damn near impenetrable
All selling points as far as i’m concerned. Except not meth heads.
Pot heads sorry
lol
A cipher you say..
check this out =)
You know, I like almost everything on Adult Swim but for some reason I can not stand this fucking show…or Xavier for that matter.
J.
Xavier drives me nuts, can’t stand it..
But Superjail appeals to some dark place in my mind that has previously been left untapped =)
I think thats been tapped.
Kinda like your “coolness factor”?
J.
I have been tapped plenty, not always in the ways that I have wanted, but what the hell, you only live once.
=)
I love Superjail. Glad to hear I’m not the only one! It’s like South Park viewed through the eyes of a fiendish, autistic 12 year old on LSD.
J.
Home Movies will always have a special place for me, it was old school Adult Swim.
J.
Now, Cowboy Bebop I have on DVD. One of the best series ever!
i fucking hate typing lol….but, man, LOL
Heh yeah superjail is insane, but it has a premise. I have zero clue what Tim&Eric is
tim and eric is fun in only 1 min increments
I had a friend doing the old greg bit long before we’d ever watched the show…it got old quick for me
He he, that’s actually pretty funny.
J.
What a beast of a tune
Oh yeah love this song, family used to play this on vinyl on Sundays
Thanks for this one
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Among_the_thugs
im reading this book now among the thugs by bill buford
about football hooligans its really good
so far he is hanging out with man u fans
i got to say reading the first couple of chapters WTF would anyone go to a match !!!????
great topic so far well written and well told without looking down on these guys he is trying to get to know
i would say a must read for any footie fans especially a man u fan/intercity jibers like j
or even a sports fan in general
has anyone else read it?
Never been a big football fan, but I am fully engrossed in the NHL playoffs right now. And Toronto isn’t even in it, but they’ve sucked for years now, so I’m used to rooting for another team.
Wow, I bet that comment just completely alienated me, don’t think there are too many hockey fans on the blog. But keep in mind, I’m Canadian, the shit is in my blood!
Go Habs! 😛
hehe, I’m actually rooting for Vancouver. Montreal fans are usually dick heads 😛
see sports fandom has a lot of wacky tribalism
thats why i like that book so much
im the same way with the ny giants
the ny mets and brooklyn cyclones
supporting the Canucks is kind of like supporting Hull or Wigan or someone in the Premier League 😛
He he…Hull or Wigan. 🙂
J.
Christ Locus, you make it sound like they’re a bunch of paint huffing, thalidomide victims. While I don’t expect them to do overly well, it would be nice. Never been one to support the heavy favorites anyway.
Go Wings!
Please, at least make it though the first round or there could be mass suicide here in Michigan if there is no Playoff Hockey at least into May =)
You make it sound like that’s a bad thing. 😛
J.
That sounds like that movie Green Street Hooligans. The one with Frodo in.
I liked that movie. End was a bit melodramatic though.
J.
what do you think of this clip from the jack benny show? i was in the mood for old school comedy the other day and was watching jack benny and groucho marx clips. folks seem split on the clip of rochester buying jack a christmas present some saying its racist others saying its just plain funny from what ive seen of the jack benny show i think rochester is just damn funny
since we had a bunch comedy clip and lots of brothers
interested in the ccw point of view
I don’t get the racism?
IMO
J.
Proving once and for all that Germans are completely humorless!
SHUT UPPPPPP
Are you serious? They blocked them? That sucks. Those were hysterical. My favorite was the one where he found out that Michael Jackson died.
Ya, they are all beginning to be blocked.
J.
that was very clever one of the better ones
what are the film makers worried the parodies are hurting uncle adolph’s image?
Users like us should download as many of the parodies as possible and make up fake youtube accounts and continually keep posting them up.
Its absolutely stupid on the part of the film company to do this. The film has gained far more attention because of the parodies.
Seriously though, Downfall is actually a pretty good movie that absolutely no one in the States would have seen without the popularity of these YouTube clips.
Almost as bad is people disabling embedding!
Never seen the actual movie, but was curious about the film in general.
Downfall didn’t even know the title
Time to pay some bills. 😛
J.
🙂
I don’t what it is about that guy, but he makes me chuckle and that’s it.
):-(
He’s pretty funny. I like these commercials.
J.
Has anyone seen the shortlived one camera sitcom on ABC called Sons & Daughters? It was on a few years ago and I loved it. This guy from the PS commercials was on it.
Here Comes New South Park!!!
Holy shit, dude!!! I had completely forgot about it till I read your comment! Thanks. Guess this blog is good for something, huh?
J.
Zombies “Time of the Season”! Nice!
J.
Wow, are you kidding me! they are even bleeping the word Mohammad out now? Yeash!
Ya, that’s a bit much.
J.
thus the joke
Oh, I get it. Still a bit much. 😛
J.
Guess it’s not much of a joke..
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36696093/ns/entertainment-television
Wow…
J.
This is all too common an occurrence with these extremists. They put a fatwa on any cartoonist who has the gall to depict (BEEP) in any form. If I ever feel like killing myself, I’ll just create a (BEEP) comic. Suicide by cartooning.
Sounds like a good way to go though.
J.
Who would have thought being a cartoon artist would be such a dangerous profession. Take that Alaskan crab fishermen!
We need a reality show following the dangerous lives of Littlekingryan and Deemar stat.
J.
The Deadliest Sketch!
http://www.instantrimshot.com/
J.
LMAO
Perfect
Yeah, it would be me sitting at a drawing table for hours on end (think time-lapse) and occasionally masturbating to internet porn. About as enlightening as most reality tv.
A bunch of artist in a house with a full wet bar and the show writes itself =)
Holy Fatwa batman
The episode in question was pretty benign, extremist being extreme I guess
Scott Tenorman!
Didn’t see that coming.
J.
Guys I need help.
After reading Brave and the Bold 33, I gotta say, I am very pleased but a little confused.
This issue is supposed to take place around “killing joke.” So how come the iPhone is present in the issue?
I don’t wanna sound like a dick but I am just curious about things like this.. anyone else wondering?
Regardless, It was a great issue!
Thanks for ruining it for me! I haven;t read it yet! An iPhone spoiler alert would have been nice.
He he, just kidding. I’ll get back to you on that after I read it. Comics have been doing a lot of that retcon bullshit lately. Just look at Superman Secret Origin.
J.
Ahhh Shit!!! Jose I am so sorry 😦
Its a great issue no matter what. Cliff Chiang’s art was great and JMS never disappoints.
I was kidding. I flipped through it and figured if Barbara was in it it was before Killing Joke. No worries.
I bought a new manga this week I think you should check out. It’s called “Kingyo Used Books Vol. 1”. I may do a review of it in the next couple of days.
J.
Oh awesome. I’ll have to check that out. Ever since the fabulous Pluto ended, I’ve needed a new manga to keep me happy 🙂
Comic books are timeless, dude. It’s like Burton’s first Batman film, where they all this modern equipment in the Batcave but the cars that the general public drove around in were all from the 70s.
Uhhh…what?
J.
The iPhone is present due to a time paradox created when the Flash entered the Speed Force in Flash (vol.2) #153. Certain elements of our present day time were fused with the 80s Earth One. Duh.
Adoy, it all makes sense now. Thanks.
J.
Man, how foolish am I for not reading every comic to keep up with the logic it has.
I think Ryan was being factitious.
J.
Yeah I know 😛
All in all its comic book logic, I guess the question is, how does a woman with a yellow rope make people tell the truth by wrapping them with it, rather than why’s there an iPhone in the 80’s… lol
J.
J.
Oh, I’ve had a few Jeckylls in my time, too. Suddenly…HYDE!!!!
You dated a chick who was into comic book history? And let her go?? What the hell could she have done to make you kick her to the curb? I thought insane chicks were supposed to be fun.
Oh, it was fun for a while. But the insanity got old real quick.
J.
Here is what Jose is talking about for the edification of anyone else interested: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/0789320355/sr=1-3/qid=1271905833/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books&qid=1271905833&sr=1-3.
Ah, thanks Ryan. 🙂
J.
Brilliant
I’m not an expert, but didn’t he have a 2nd “wife” living with his family?
Yeah he did or at least a “other woman” in fact WW was based on one of his lovers, something about she wore braclets
Yes she did.
J.
Lucky bastard.
haha seriously? that’s hilarious. I always feared there was some “kinky” thoughts like that from the creator/writers of WW.
Well, look at the design of Wonder Woman: High heeled boots, bustier and a whip. You guys know how much I love Wonder Woman but I do actually think her “look” is an outdated concept of feminism. She does need a redesign to reflect current concepts and ideas of feminism.
J.
Her boots now are cool now since DC took the heels off of them. I do agree with that.
J.
I think maybe they should stop drawing her tits so big, thats only really happened since Lynda Carter, before that they were less Power girl-esque and make her more lean and athletic (not over-muscled either)
Like what a full bodysuit?
I think simply taking the gold outta costume, give her long pants/tights and call it a day.
the problems with her costume too me is less about design and more tacky ass colors.
I sounded gay as hell just now didn’t I?
Well her current costume isn’t dreadful, just a few updates here and there. I think a woman can have morals and be sexy. But that’s me, in this day in age, some people don’t think that way. They think they need a more universally accepted look.
In my own part, however, I just think the colors don’t match. Get the colors matching I’ll be fine with it really.
Remember they changed her costume in the 70’s to a more contemporary suit and some of the then feminist didn’t like it. (the fact that DC took away her powers didn’t help)
That’s pretty much my view, it’s a good design it’s just shitty colors
Ed: Yep, Gloria Steinem was pretty much at the forefront of that. They took away everything that made Wonder Woman wondrous.
Didn’t Rucka want to change her suit up a bit? DC wouldn’t let him.
I’d like to see pants (or skirt), maybe less stars. Just make it less Americana and more Greek Myth.
I liked her redesign in Red Sun.
J.
Dee: More like gay as heaven. **Swoon**
Lol
I’m a Fashionista! lol
I think putting straps on that bustier so it doesn’t look like her tits are gonna spill out would be a good start. And make sure Ed Benes never gets to draw her with the star spangled thong again.
That is indeed the image I had in mind while writing my comment. Kind of hard to forget something quite that…outrageous.
well William Moulton Marston was a fetishist so its no real surprise.
Or barring that,it’s cuz of the Superboy Prime time wall punch.
Shit! I always get those two mixed up.
Is that a Pris look-a-like on Ugly Americans? Does anyone watch this show?
It does look like those Vampires are a bit of a homage to everyone favorite band of homicidal replicates.
Yep, good show
Animation on point and that pic is sweet.
Nice pic. I’m a big Pris (and Blade Runner)fan.
J.
Yes, I think we’ve bonded over our mutual love of Blade Runner, PTA films, WW history, and Maria Bamford. What else can we share with the world?
Hmmm…do you have a fascination with Judy Greer?
J.
I tell ya what she looks better as a redhead than a blonde
veddi..veddi..Nice!
why do redheads have to be so hot????? 😦
Redheads without freckles = hot
Redheads with freckles = gingers = evil incarnate
LMAO!
Musky I think you just found the Rosetta Stone, The Dead Sea scrolls, the freakin whole Dan Brown saga
Dude, she always looks good.
J.
but reeeeeed hheeeeeeeaaaaadddssssss!!!!!!!
Nice Avatar GeneralDark =)
Is that Squirtle?
J.
Odin’s beard, I love me some reddddd headdsssss.
She’s an inquired taste, not normally my type the redhair helps
Not to the same extent as you. Loved her in Arrested Development. But I prefer her as a blonde, myself.
J.
Red suits her better distracts from her bulging eyes
Oh no you didn’t!
Oh yes I did…*Neck roll*
J.
LOL!
See Jose agrees lol
=)
Actually , i don’t. That was me exploding in anger. Nobody puts Judy Greer in a corner!
J.
Did you just draw that Ryan? If so, wow!
Naw, I did it a little while ago. Penciljack sometimes has a “draw a character” thread where everyone does their version of a chosen character. I had to participate when Pris came up. I love Blade Runner.
I wish I had talent. I just work on dirty machines all day =)
Working on machines is a talent. If my car broke down, all the Pris drawings in the world wouldn’t get that fucker up and running again.
Dude your a writer
with talent
Use it!
Do it
🙂
Someday I will tell you the story about how I went to college to be a writer and got beat down by the system =)
But I still like to write AD&D adventures and stuff for the CCW site. Jose is the college professor I wish I had back in the day =)
I’d like to hear that.
J incourages you? All he does to me is smack me around 😦 tells me I suck
J.
“I bay, Oost-bay, is-hay, confindence-eh!”
Shhh..
Jose is harsh, but fair =)
Close but I think I swear and insult you a bit more than that. 😛
J.
R Lee Ermery he should be J. Jonah Jamerson
I would agree with that, J. Jonah Jamerson dropping f bombs would be interesting.
J.
Meh, this is sometimes the bad thing about advance ordering, sometimes you get stuck with a lemon. At least I’ll be able to cancel before #3. I was looking for something to cut so as to give the new Chris Sprouse Tom Strong book a try.
JHW3 is doing the cover, so added plus with that Tom Strong book.
Dude,
your awesome
lol
Brendan Fraser’s movie career is dying a painful death.
Furry Vengeance REALLY?!
Wha……!!!!!
J.
If Kick-Ass didn’t already exist I would nominate that for worst movie of the year.
Oh Brooke Shields, what are you doing? This is worse than Judy Greer starring in the new Marmaduke movie. Damn.
J.
Turns out it’s an incisive and heart-wrenching study of one man’s descent into madness.
Or maybe that’s the next film, the one about Fraser’s choices of roles.
If there was a website called http://www.instantkneeslap.com I would put a link to it right here. 🙂
J.
I do try.
I thought his career died when he was in George of the Jungle
When I saw Fraser stop by in the GI Joe clusterfuck of a film, I knew he was dead in the water.
I saw the poster for this two days ago at the movie theater and I seriously couldn’t believe my eyes, this is like some kind of parody movie you would see on Southpark.
With all of the Wonder Woman talk..
❤
All this WW talk is getting me more excited for upcoming JMS issues. From Linda Carter to Greg Rucka, to JMS, WW has always been a great character 🙂
I’d say this is the year to honor her for all her great accomplishments!
Ahem…you know, I am all about the belief that people are shaped and molded into the people they are today by things they experienced in there youth. This video has, I think, helped me realize the the truth behind some of my beliefs. Le sigh…
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar…etc, etc, etc.
J.
Things were a lot simpler in the 70’s Jose =)
IM
They sure were. Star Wars films were good, Linda Carter was running around making me into the man I am today, Battle of the Planets had a cross dresser as it’s villain(who were actually two separate people in the Japanese version mixed into one for the US) and Spectreman had ultraviolence that didn’t make me into a sociopath. Very good times. 🙂
J.
Holy shit I lover spectreman, it was one of my first fanboy obessessions
And I was born.
And there’s that.
J.
<>
laugh, forgot about that..
Lol
Cballsack Secret Origins #1
Please don’t let Geoff Johns write me. My life is boring enough.
All I know is my 7yr old balls dropped with Lynda Carter’s help
Oh and truths, beliefs, womenism…and..my balls dropping
Yes, Linda Carter gave me that funny feeling I couldn’t describe as a kid, I knew I liked what I was seeing, but didn’t quite know why =)
Lindsay Wagner also had the same effect on me….
J.
Nice!
She gave me a Bionic boner, that sound was my baby bits smacking the bunkbed I shared with my brother
LoL Deemar!
Muskrat for the Win!
Damn, never got Spectreman in my parts, only had Ultraman. I will have to try and find Spectreman on DvD someday.
You can borrow my box set sometime. 🙂
J.
Never even heard of Spectreman. Catchy theme song.
so i read the new green lantern and….omg that was probally the worst issue i read. i know it was all set up and i expected that but not that much set up!!! i did not like how sinestro made his apperance in this, the most ridiciulus entrance ever!! Manke’s art is getting worst with the charecter designs. his layouts and stuff are great. Im a big supporter for jons and brightest day but i expected a hell of alot more from GL.
Manhke is at his best when he’s cranking out 9 ish a year, you can tell he rushed
Loved this damn show
Wow, we’re gonna get to 400 before the end of the night…erm, morning. CCW Nation is fast becoming my pop culture commentary addiction.
This site makes me not miss fantasy baseball so much.
This site makes me not miss sex so much…….ok, that’s a lie. 😦
J.
CCW is like sex without the awkward cuddling afterward.
Awkward cuddling? Is that anything like getting kneed in the yambags and getting literally kicked out of bed after the deed is done? If so…ya, that awkward cuddling shit sucks.
J.
Lol yambags!?
Soo..you hooked up with Mojo at C2E2, nice
Quick story..
“Hold me!”
Now that was awkward..
Got the hell out of there the next morning =)
What happened to the “quick story”? Or was that a reference to your love making prowess? 😛
J.
What I lacked in lasting power I made up for in recovery time =)
At least that my story and I am sticking to it!
What is this sex you speak of?
Don’t give it too much thought, Superman is cooler.
I never use “lol,” but if I did, now would be the time, because that made me laugh out loud hysterically.
VICTORY!
I got your medicine
JUSTICE!!! Crying…
J.
At first I thought that video was about Megan Fox being replaced by Christina Hendricks in the Red Sonja movie. Alas, that is only a dream.
J.
Hey you never know, if the world can realize Christina’s place atop the list of beautiful women.
Maybe the red sonja guys will figure it out
Chainmail woulda never looked so good 🙂
Sorry ’bout the dbl posting, though I wonder why the emoticon shows in some postings when you type the right characters , but it just shows up as as the initial characters in others……..conspiracy theorists, unite 🙂
Chainmail woulda never looked so good:-)
Both you guys are correct
Five Dolllah!
Oh, shit. The new solicits are out, right? Damn, I got to check those out tomorrow so I can rip on Marvel some more. 🙂
But I’m with you on that one mbell. Marvel does hate comic book readers but they sure do love the mindless fanboys, don’t they?
J.
no joke Jose I’m pretty close to just completely stop reading Marvel books although it’ll be tough doing that seeing there are still a few good ones left. Did you see that Agents of Atlas gets relaunched next month I’m actually going to pick it up this time. Read the trades of the previous series I’m mad I didn’t read them sooner.
Good yeeesss…fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering
I feel ya
So, I take it you didn’t read Captain America: Who Won’t Wield the Shield.
Nope
I thought it was Deadpool heavy so I stayed away
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=25886
What do you guys think of this?!
I’m somewhat excited!
Me to, but what is up with Superboys pants were they always tucked in to his boots, and it makes me wonder if that is Tim Drake or Dick Grayson.
Is there a black Aqualad in the regular DC universe?
I think it’s going to turn out to be Black Manta’s son or something akin to that.
That’s actually a pretty interesting idea.
Good call
Looks good (design anyways)could be great or godawful is Tim Bruce or Dini involved?
I just read the new Brave and the Bold. I give it an A+. Call me sentimental, call me a pussy, or just call me a sensitive soul, but that ending brought tears to my eyes. I welled up a little bit. I really did. Zatanna and her Cassandra Complex. The origin of Barbara’s post-Batwoman name. The pieces fit together very well for me. This is what good storytelling in comics is about. Bravo, JMS and Chiang. Bravo indeed.
And on that note, I’m gonna put on my nightly Stern and fall asleep to it. Should knock the sentimentality right out of me…
Later on,
LKR
Agreed. Its nice to see how JMS writes WW. Gives us a good idea of how great his run will be.
Now that I think about it (SPOILERS! SPOILERS!)
I guess you just won the DC equivalent of the No-Prize.
haha.
Also, I dug out the Killing Joke last nite since there was (spoilers… possibly) reference to it in Brave and Bold 33, and while I read it, South park was playing and I noticed something.
Bleeding Cool noticed it too…
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/04/22/swipe-file-south-park-vs-the-killing-joke/
I gotta say it was strange seeing it while I was reading it on a day an issue came out about it…
That is quite awesome. And coincidental. I wonder if the colors of that sequence were changed at all in the re-mastered edition Bolland tweaked a few years back.
Check inbox my bad
I know, I know. But I love Hagar.
John Romita Sr.’s variant Avengers cover. I feel like his Thor could use some work.
http://marvel.com/images/733381./from/content.story.12157
this might sound like sacrelige….but I never thought that John Romita Sr was all that great.
Beautiful cover, horrible writer 🙂
Looks badass too me
JrJr can do no…well work with Mark Millar
this band needs more exposure
Man, I’ve been repping Metric on here for a while now, they are an amazing band. Emily Haines’s solo stuff is quite good as well. She’s also in Broken Social Scene with Feist. Another great band.
Jose informed me that Metric will be doing a bunch of the music for the Scott Pilgrim movie. Should help them gain a bit more recognition.
they need all the rep they can get
That’s pretty damn good
Y’all wanna hear the worst cover ever? I’ve been in an 80s music mood all night and I came across this awful, truly awful rendition of Tears For Fears’s song “Head Over Heels,” as sung by Katy Perry.
Yeah ol’girl can keep that
funny enough was watching Donnie Darko couple day ago this song was in my head
Ya, I’m not a fan of this. You owe me 1 minute of my night cballsack
Heh!
I’ll take 2mins one for the song the other for having to respond to the song
That’s not the first time I’ve heard that, although it usually comes from a chick.
See now I’ve heard of Katy Perry. You must always isolate and contain, isolate and contain.
lol
that’s the key same goes for Kanye
yeesh. And i like that song. Or at least I did.
I like the original, Kathy Perry not so much.
She hot though
I wouldn’t kick her out of bed. Hell, I wouldn’t kick anyone out of bed. It’s been a couple months for me. I’m kinda antsy.
I’d ask her to please put the knife down first.
Talk to the hand
lol!
know what I’m saying?
That’s pretty bad. Worst cover I’ve ever heard was Limp bizket covering the who’s “Behind Blue Eyes”. Craptastic.
Whats everybody’s favorite single issue in the last month?
Mine has definitely been SHIELD.
SHIELD for the win
Been screaming to the roof top how good it was
I’ve read it three times, something I don’t normally do, but damn it keeps getting better with every read.
I have a feeling SHIELD is gonna be one of those books that when it’s collected people will buy it like it’s TDK
It didn’t come out this month but I just read Doomwar #1. Damn that was good. About to read #2.
Just read #3 tonight. That books is so amazingly good.
J.
Just listened to an interview with Maberry on ComicGeekSpeak, I like this guy’s attitude.
He won me over
Definitely one of the best I’ve read in a while. Hey, is the set up to the story in Doomwar coming out of any other books besides Black Panther? I’d like to pick up any recent back stories.
No, it was in just Black Panther.
J.
Nice. Thank you, kind sir.
I thought Daytripper #5 was incredible.
J.
It’s on my radar just keep missing/forgetting to buy it
It was incredible, It took me to my childhood and going to the Missouri river with all the family and friends, being there every weekend in the summer.
J.
After reading Daytripper #5 I think the key with what is happening to Bras might have more to do with his father, than anything Bras is doing. Just a strange thought that enter my head after this latest issue.
Amazing Fantasy #15.
Okay, so it didn’t just come in the past month, but I was re-reading it earlier.
I read back issues all the time
You’re just too cool.
Anyone see this interview with Stan Lee about his feud with Steve Ditko over Spidey?
Ross got to Stan you could tell he got a little pissed, as much as Stan lee can get pissed.
Excelsior Mutha Fucker!
I suggest you watch the whole documentary, Searching for Ditko. The whole thing is great. There is a part where they talk about Dr. Strange and how is was Ditko’s idea alone, and Stan the Man didn’t think that it would be any good. But now Stan take credit as one of the creators.
Yeah seen the whole thing a while ago, Stan God love him came off as a bit of bastard.
J.
Great movie. I’ve seen it. I was actually gonna mention it when we were talking about Audition but I couldn’t remember the title.
Awesome. I was hoping someone else on here had seen it. Have you seen Suicide Club or Visitor Q?
J.
Never heard of Visitor Q. But Suicide Club, yes, that was another decent flick. It’s funny, I actually watched all those films around the same time. I was in an Asian horror mood for like a month.
Visitor Q was directed by the same guy who did Audition, Takeshi Miike. It’s not a horror movie but it is fucked up.
J.
I’ll be sure to check it out. Right after I find a copy of Tokyo Gore Police. Some random dude walked up to me in NYC and said I need to watch Tokyo Gore Police. I took that as a sign.
Really? That’s fucking bizarre…but then again so is that movie. Oh ya, you should also check out Gozu while you are at it.
J.
I’ve nearly rented Gozu dozens of times. I’ve had it in my hand and, every time, I ended up putting it back and renting something else.
This is not Asian, but another movie I really want to see is Dead Snow. It’s about Nazi zombies. In the snow. What more can I ask for?
I have this sitting on my shelf right now. My friend let my borrow it a couple of weeks ago and I have yet to watch it. I really should do that soon.
J.
So we like the same horror movies and romantic comedies. If only we could find some middle ground.
There is a lot of good horror coming out of Europe these days.
Have you checked out any French horror flicks? Frontiers, High Tension, Them, Inside or Martyrs?
J.
Nope. Last French movie I watched was Irreversible. That was intense.
Vistor Q is a pretty messed up movie, a lot of people think Ichi the Killer is Miike’s craziest movie, but I have always felt that Vistor Q is his most twisted work.
D’you ever see Funny Games? That was a feel-good romp, too.
I did and I liked it. I actually just added the second part to the video above so you can get a better feeling of where the movies is going.
J.
Rewind!
That movie was fucked up
Had an apartment just like that when I lived in korea, everyting is tiny in asia.
Home girl was weird hell the whole exchange between them odd and I had a room mate who’d mark food like that.
Haven’t seen this one yet, but it looks pretty bizarre. Not sure if I will check it out or not.
Interesting.
WTF?
Who thinks of stuff like this?
Someone really focusing in on the phrase ‘ass kisser.’ It’s really just a hop, skip and jump from there.
Heh!
Cronenberg should remake this, he’d have a ball
Heh, yeah, Cronenberg did do a rather nasty little, crazy doctor movie back in the day =)
That brings me back, underrated movie never see it on tv
This is cool online movie night
I just saw Clash of the Titans and am sad to say, Sam Worthington still cannot act.
I had forgotten the oaf was even in this. The orignal was a fond memory of mine, and Liam Nieson and Ralph Finnes are both very promising. Sadly, the end result was another casualty of Hollywood. Anyone that gives Worthington another big budget flick is nutso. The guy is utterly terrible.
We’re going 500 comments guys! 🙂 That’d make this thread historic!
this calls for epic credit roll music!
No, this, my friend, is EPIC credit roll music. 🙂
J.
My submission for consideration:
He he…Very nice. Loved this game.
J.
Is it just me or has Gail Simone lost weight?
http://www.newsarama.com/common/media/video/player.php?aid=34762
I always thought she looked like she might have a pretty face if she lost some weight, but she kinda looks cute in this video. Either that or I’ve been in a dating deadzone for too long.
Well I’ve been in a dating deadzone for too long myself so I’m the wrong person to ask.
Also, Comic Book Club was at C2E2? That’s CCW turf! All kidding aside, I wish I would have seen them there.
J.
I don’t think anyone from Comic Book Club would start trouble on CCW turf =)
But if they did I think Jose’s years of gaming experience would pay off with some awesome combo moves!
J.
I denounce and reject myself:
My guilt for laughing led me to find out apparently the kid is OK.
Turns out the kid ending up being pretty good =)
Congratulations IM. You just officially killed this open thread. Good thing the Weekend Open Thread goes up in a few hours.
J.
So posting the video of the cute kid playing the ukulele might crash the site then =)
Yes. Yes it might. 😛
J.
I remember laughing quite a bit when I first saw this video as well. But then again I dislike kids so…
J.
Jeez, I was joking! Didn’t you see that? 😛
I do like Alex and Justin’s reviews most of the time. Ya, I saw when Alex posted on here. That was pretty cool of him to thank you guys for checking his book out.
J.
No, I didn’t think you were mad, but I still probably wouldn’t have posted “the competition” on here if I’d thought twice about it just out of respect. It’d be like going to your store and talking about how great the Graham Crackers chain is.
No worries. Graham Crackers…ha ha ha ha! 🙂
J.
BTW, I wouldn’t be praising Graham Crackers even outside of your store. LOL!
Thor and the Warriors Four (Alex’s book) was actually really good. I enjoyed it and will be buying the rest of the series. I loved the Pet Avenger’s cameo 😛
I thought is was good too. I’m thinking about doing a late review of it on CCW TV next week.

Damn, Ghostbusters was my next pick!!! Now you’ve thrown me off.

I got to get some work done. I’ll be back around later on tonight.
for anyone not watching archer on fx you are making a mistake
Wouldn’t be the first one I’ve made.
Just a bit of warning: The weekend Open thread will be going up in about a half hour or so. As soon as that goes up please start posting over there…unless here are topics that started on here that you would still like to talk about. That is all.
J.
Really? You mean this thread hasn’t gotten long and unwieldy enough yet? This fucker has turned epic. EPIC. (Scrolls up for half an hour)
I know, right? It has gotten a bit out of control.
J.
Way out of control, but i like it.
Hey Tom, if I haven’t told you yet, you’re too divine. Hey everybody, Tom’s Too Divine!
He he…sounds like you’re cutting a wrestling promo.
J.
thanks man
Oh yeah, and you should use the CCW Battle Royale pic for the thread. I’m sure Deemar would be honored. Do you have any idea what I’m talking about?
Nope. I haven’t seen it.
J.
Aah, well, here ya go: http://littlekingryan.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/ccw-battle-war-super-event1.jpg
A Deemar/Littleking production.
Cool. Thanks.
J.
It’s pretty cool. It’s on his Deviant page.
Naw it ain’t. You must mean my blog. Which blog? Why, the one you can get to simply by clicking my name, of course. You’ll want to right-click and open in a new window or tab, though. **exit self-promo mode promobot power down**
