I really dug the movie.Don’t think the studios care that much since they have made their money back. Also I don’t see how you can hate a character just because they masturbate.Pretty much every teenage boy does it.Do you hate them too?
Well, seeing how we all kinda do it that was the joke, wasn’t it? Hating it for the most ridiculous reason possible (when there more so many more valid reasons to hate it). I don’t understand why you guys have to take everything I say so damn serious ALL the time. Believe it or not I do joke around every now and again. jeez…
I’m offended because I’m a masturbating Jehovah Witness.
As someone who’s mistaken your humor for sincerity before, Jose, I think you’d have better results if you spoke in a British accent. I have a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor as well, but people who don’t know me often take me seriously. For some reason only Brits can get away with that.
BTW, you were on fire in this video. Did you drink a six pack of Red Bull before taping or does ripping into detractors & trolls just get you excited?
I don’t know what is was to be honest. The stars must have aligned perfectly or something but I was feeling kinda upbeat before the taping which never ever happens. I am sure I’ll be back to my ol’ grumpy, sourpuss self next week. Though I guess I DO get kinda excited when I get to rip into something so that could have been it too. 🙂
I know English people hate that performance and Dick Van Dyke’s bad accent, but he was my favorite part of that movie when I saw it as a kid. I think everyone in the UK should talk that way.
I don’t want to see my superheroes beat off. Just because people do it doesn’t mean I want to see it. I also don’t want to see people taking shits or changing tampons. I guess some people are into that sort of thing, but not this guy.
I want to see superheroes do heroic things.
Superheroes wacking of is just wrong in comics. Nobody should see that, it’s absolutley inapropriate, and serves nothing to help move the story, it jujst makes them look like 15-year-old boys.
I had problems w/the Kick-Ass comic, but to be fair to the concept,it wasn’t about a guy who was noble or altruistic. It was about a lonely awkward teen who tried to be a hero to escape his depressing life.Hence, the wacking off.
But that’s not an indictment of women in general. Her behavior isn’t typical of the other females in the story. It shows how in her own way she’s emotionally damaged/needy like the other characters male and female. You’re not meant to think this is the way women are cuz their gender.
There’s a difference between displaying groups in a bad way all the time(women, Christians, gays, minorities) and having a character from one of those groups portrayed in a bad light for one story. I’m sick of this over PCing of American society where you can only have a straight, white, thin, male with a full head of hair & no religious affiliation portrayed as a bad guy so as not to upset some rights group.
Iron Man 2 does loook good, and I hope I’m right, cause I don’t want to pay #8 for a junky Marvel movie, and pay #4 for junky Marvel Comics at the same time.
A lot of taking trolls and bad viewers behind the storage shed in this episode.
Jose, anyone who knows the show well enough knows well enough to take whatever you say with a grain of salt, except when your completely ripping something to shreds. Then we all know you’re pissed off.
Yeah, Kickass certainly sounds like it suffered from Watchmen Syndrome. Not the too-faithful-to-the-source-material variety, but the marketed-to-a-niche-of-comic-fans strain. I’ll watch it after it’s on DVD for a while. Otherwise, I’m just not interested.
J, a sycophant is a suck-up. Not someone who holds to their points in the face of reason, facts, and common sense. That’s a religious person, a fantasist, or a sociopath. Same difference. Sorry, just wanted that on the record. (smiley face)
I am well aware of what a sycophant is. I probably shouldn’t have thrown that word around while E was talking about religion but the word still is apropos in describing the person who he was talking about in the comments section. It was as if this commenter was sucking on Millar’s balls as he typed his comments. Am I still not using the word correctly?
Oh, I just typed that cause, well that wass my instant reaction. And I’m disappreeing when you were talking about the commentor, and I have noticed both of the trolls, and they are annoying, I must say. I wasn’t trying correct you, I just wanted to mention it. I don’t want to offend you ever, however, sorry if I did.
Oh, did you mean on the youtube comments section? I don’t read those anymore so I have no idea what you are talking about if that is the case. I let Elliott deal with those bastards over there. 🙂
Shit, i’m still not caught up on the video segments, but I’m gonna have to find time to watch this one tonight. I’d like to hear your thoughts on Kick-Ass. I didn’t mind the movie, but too many fanboys are drooling all over Milar’s balls for it. Good to see that shit get called out. I think Millar might just be my nominee for this year’s golden Loeb. He’s really taken a lot of the heat off of Bendis lately!
has anyone read nemisis it really dosen’t look good considering marvels promo for it is CIVIL WAR NOTHING. KICK ASS A WARM UP WHO IS THE MOST BAD ASS CHARACTER IN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE NEMISIS
MAN! I had totally forgotten who was the writer of that. Red Son is indeed too amazing, it is hard to think it is the same guy indeed. I see that the situation now is that either A) he stole Red Son, and probably Ultimates v1, v2 from someone, B) the current Millar is a skrull with an evil agenda or one that got a poor memory transplant C) aliens (of other kind) or Loki are involved somehow.
Imo those are better alternatives, saying that the man declined so much in talent/taste/balls to not just make ‘what sells, even if it stinks, I just want money’ is just too sad.
I may be in the minority here, but I thought Red Son sucked major donkey dick. Interesting concept that basically got derailed by Millar’s “Oh, superheroes in real life would be fascist” shtick. I mean, I fucking got it already within the first 20 or some pages! I thought Kick-Ass was much better, but I think that was due to Romita’s artwork.
I think Red Son was vastly overrated as well. Not only do I not plan on ever reading it a second time, it still doesn’t prove to me that Millar has what it takes to make it as a legitimate writer. Considering Morrison even helped him on the ending to Red Son, that’s saying a lot.
I’m kinda interested in how Kick-Ass compared to Wanted in terms of box office returns. The reason I say this is because Kick-Ass had a relatively unknown cast in comparision. Perhaps that affects how much money the movie generates.
definately i mean if you put Robert pattinson’s face or miley cirus then people will see that film good or not i mean twilight could just be him sitting in a chair with his shirt off and it would have made just as much money.
I liked Kick-Ass it was a big turn off your brain and have fun flick.
I understand why J hates it, but for me it was 1 good to see Nick Cage actually be badass in a movie, he hasn’t been that in a while and damn if it wasn’t funny.
I’d rather see Scott Pilgrim do well, from what I seen Jonah Hex reminds me of Ghost Rider for some reason and I didn’t like Ghost Rider all that much.
I love it how Brolin makes Hex sound like Karl from Slingblade. For those people who hated the Hex comic of the 80’s where he goes to the future, I wonder what they’ll think of the supernatural powers this trailer implies he now has.
I agree with Elliott on the need for making movies more accessible to the general public if you want them to be successful(make tons o cash). Now that’s not to say a movie like Kick-Ass or Watchmen will be better for it. I haven’t seen Kick-Ass yet so I can’t comment on what changed from the comic to the movie, but Zack Snyder Watchmen was a very faithful adaption of the source material up until the end, when he seem to change things to make the ending a bit more upbeat and happy than the original series. Did cutting out the giant space squid and giving a little more certainty about the faith of mankind help at the box office? I don’t think so, to be honest outside of comic book fans no one had a clue about what the Watchmen where all about and the changes made by Snyder probably had little affect on the movies box office success.
I think a better example of a establish franchise being reworked to make it more consumer friendly is J.J. Abrams relaunch of the Star Trek. For the record, I am a huge Star Trek fan and I was pretty excited to hear that Abrams was directing a Star Trek movie, let’s face it, the entire Star Trek franchise was dead in the water at that time. I was surprised that the movie was going to be a total reboot, starting over with new actors playing the original crew. The Trekkies wouldn’t be happy, of course they never were anymore, but hey, I was game for a reboot.
Then I started to hear more about the changes Abrams was making, time travel in the first movie? Altering the time line and changing the entire history of Trek? Blowing up Vulcan? Romulans running around showing their faces! Blasphemy! A friend of my from work, Steve, is the biggest Trekkie I know and he was in a rage.
Steve: Dude! have you seen the new Trek movie?
Me: Not yet, how was it?
Steve: Don’t bother, it was all fucked up, it made no sense at all!
Me: Really?
Steve: They totally changed everything, Kirk, Bones, Spock.. they are all different now, they are nothing like they were in the original series.
Me: That guy that plays Sylar seems like a good Spock.
Steve: They killed Spock’s mom and destroyed Vulcan! In the first movie!
Me: No shit?
Steve: Yeah! and Spock is banging Uhura! And it wasn’t even Pon Farr!
Me: That’s interesting, oh, and by the way, thanks for all the spoilers prick!
Steve: You are welcome asshole.
So I went to see Star Trek a few days later knowing that everything I had known and love about Trek was about to be destroyed before my very eyes. Steve was right, this version of Trek had almost nothing to do with the original series other than the names remaining the same. But the theater was packed with kids and families and they where loving every moment of it.
And then about halfway through the movie I got it, Abrams wasn’t making a Star Trek movie for me,the 40 something fan who had grown up watching the old series, he was making it for a whole new generation of fans. The time travel and the alteration of the time line was just a big fuck you to all of Trekkie old timers. Tough love from J.J. Abrams, he wasn’t interested in appeasing the old guard, the people who count how many buttons are on Spock control panel at his station or know how to speak Klingon. nothing about this trek reboot will ever be the same, so either get on board and enjoy the ride or just have fun sitting in your house alone watching old episodes on your TV, being all lonely while all of the cool kids are out having fun watching the new Trek.
So who won in the end? J.J. Abrams? or the original Trekkie fan base? Well, the Star Trek movie made almost $400 millions dollars at the box office. It was the highest grossing Trek movie of all time. It’s hard to argue about the money side of it, but was this version of Star Trek better than the original series? To be honest, I think that the new version is so radically different form the original series that when try to compare the two, it will just make you have a Kirk vs. NOMAD logic meltdown. I will always love the old series and nothing will change that, but I am willing to go into this rebooted Trek with an open mind and the knowledge that there is no way Abrams new Star Trek could be any worse than Star Trek Voyager!
=)
Damn, I think I hijack my own post halfway through!
Yeah, I liked the new Trek. I’ve never watched the original series, my introduction to the mythos began in the early-mid eighties with the second and third movies. I remember going to see The Voyage Home in the theaters. I still like that movie. Of course, having grown and been seasoned a bit by the harsh winds of pop-cult change, now Wrath of Khan is my favorite. TNG was good. No patience for DS9 or Voyager. Saw a bit of Enterprise. But I’m liking this new version…I think we all win, really. I’m glad the status of the franchise has been raised substantially. There are so many more stories that can be told, and they seem to stand a better chance than ever of being treated in a respectful manner. Or at least having tons of money thrown at those who are enlisted to make them.
I’m not a Star Trek fan but I thought Abrams’ movie sucked. It’s not that it wasn’t made for Star Trek fans, it’s that is wasn’t a good movie. Its plot was full of holes, some of the “humor” was cringe inducing & didn’t jibe with the tone of the rest of the movie, and the villain was bland as fuck.
For me the weakest part of the movie was Nero. I just never bought into his anger, I don’t know if was Eric Bana or just the script. It doesn’t help that the movie fails to explain fully where Nero went between the time he attacks the Kelvin and his attack on the federation Fleet. That’s not really a nitpick, it a pretty major plot hole. 20 years or so is a pretty long cooling off period for even the most pissed off villain.
According to Orci & Kurtzman, it all makes sense if you read the Star Trek Prequel comics from IDW. You shouldn’t have to read a fucking comic in order to understand and/or enjoy a movie.
Agreed, I am all for the whole multi-media experience. But if I am paying $10 + snacks to see a movie I shouldn’t need to buy primer material to get the whole experience =)
I didn’t need a comic to understand the movie, I got it first viewing. As you said I.M. this movie is for the next generation of viewers. I enjoy watching TOS and I’ve seen all the movie’s and enjoyed them all, but this latest one is a fresh fun update, and it’s a movie that I want to watch multiple times unlike most movies that have come out lately. I’m excited to see where it goes from here.
Speaking of superhero movies, how do we feel about Thor?
I’m not a fan of it but if you’ve seen “Thor” in Star Trek or a little seen movie called Ca$h, you know we’re going to be getting Channing Tatum level acting from him to begin with. Bring on “Pinecone Cap”! (big ass eye roll)
Well, he’s got the right look, but that Tupperware armor is painful to look at, I hope they can touch that up later to make it look more like actual metal.
Jose, your expression of defeat when Elliott asked you if you’ve seen Kick-Ass is priceless. Good points about the movie in this video, guys. I mean really, if you’re going after the widest possible audience, then why make a movie with an 11 year old girl is stabbing people in the eyes and drops the c-bomb? How many moviegoers really are going to want to see this besides fanboys and genrehounds like us? More teenagers are probably going to see the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. I think most of us, myself included, really thought this movie was going to be wildly successful, but maybe the tastes of CCW viewers are just out of step with the mainstream (which is fine by me btw; fuck the mainstream! As long as the shit I like keeps getting produced, I could give a rat’s ass if the public likes it. I’d rather turn on people to underground shit that I like on an individual basis anyway).
On the subject of good movies, I decided to have an Asian cinema day today. Saw 2BRK, Ichi the Killer, Suicide Club, and the first twenty minutes of Tokyo Gore Police! I predict some vivid dreams tonight.
They were all good in their own way. Ichi was probably the bloodiest movie I’ve seen in a while; really earned it’s infamous reputation (wouldn’t Kick-Ass have been so much better if Takashi Miike directed it?) 2BRK was fine–who doesn’t like a movie about two hot asian cuties trying to kill each other (I think I recognize the redhead–was she in So Close?). Suicide Club was probably the best of the bunch–very creepy and a smart satire on popular culture and teen suicide. The parts of Tokyo Gore Police I saw look fucking crazy, but I’m up to the part where they present the lead character with a birthday cake.
No, that actress wasn’t in So Close. Suicide Club is a fucking trip. If you liked it you should check out a movie called Noriko’s Dinner Table. It’s by the same director and is kinda a pseudo sequel. It’s supposed to take place during the events of Suicide Club.
I love 2LDK. It starts out as a normal, odd couple flick and then just goes insane. There is a companion piece to 2LDK. It’s called Aragami and is directed by Ryuhei Kitamura (the directer of Versus). The two director’s took on this “Duel” challenge to make two different movies but used the same basic concept. It’s pretty interesting to compare the two movies after seeing both. Aragami though is about a Samuarai in feudal Japan.
And Ichi is…well…Ichi. Nothing quite like it. 🙂
If you liked Tokyo Gore Police I would suggest looking for the movie Machine Girl.
Thanks for the recommendations. I just finished Tokyo Gore Police. What a fucking crazy, brilliant movie. The entire scene in the S & M club made my jaw drop to the floor. And I’ve never seen anything like the final fight with the quadruple amputee. If I didn’t start blogging on CCW, I would never have heard of these great movies.
Believe it or not I do joke around every now and again. jeez…
J.
I didn’t take it seriously.I just thought that wasn’t a good reason to hate a character and said something about it.Sorry for not getting you’re joke.
J.
Oh Jose you ol’ sourpuss.
Ok, Jose should do the next segment in a Dick Van Dyke english accent.
J.
I know English people hate that performance and Dick Van Dyke’s bad accent, but he was my favorite part of that movie when I saw it as a kid. I think everyone in the UK should talk that way.
They don’t? you got to be pullin my leg.
ever teenager that comes into Jose’s shop he gives them a look as if to say “you’re impure” 😛
I don’t want to see my superheroes beat off. Just because people do it doesn’t mean I want to see it. I also don’t want to see people taking shits or changing tampons. I guess some people are into that sort of thing, but not this guy.

Superheroes wacking of is just wrong in comics. Nobody should see that, it’s absolutley inapropriate, and serves nothing to help move the story, it jujst makes them look like 15-year-old boys.
But isn’t the kid in kick ass around 15 yrs old? Just saying. (pardons if you were being facetious and making this exact point.)
On a personal note, I’m gonna go leave a shit cause I don’t take no shit. Also tampoone and masturbation, etc.
Yeah he is, but when it comes to superhero comics, be a superhero. Good point!
I had problems w/the Kick-Ass comic, but to be fair to the concept,it wasn’t about a guy who was noble or altruistic. It was about a lonely awkward teen who tried to be a hero to escape his depressing life.Hence, the wacking off.
I’d advise you to never read the Marvelman “birth” issue man, some things just don’t need to be shown in comics 😉
Actually, I am one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Watchmen, had a strong opening, and then fell bigtime in it’s second weekend.
the critics loved watchmen but the people who didn’t read the grapic novel not so much. i watched it again recently top class film.
I met some people who didn’t read the book, and like you said , they disliked it. I think one said it had a bad potrayal of women.
Wait…I get how some ppl said it was too long or too depressing, but how does Watchmen have a bad portrayal of women? Did that person give an example?
How about the original Silk Spectre falling in love with the man who beat and attempted to rape her across the pool table?
But that’s not an indictment of women in general. Her behavior isn’t typical of the other females in the story. It shows how in her own way she’s emotionally damaged/needy like the other characters male and female. You’re not meant to think this is the way women are cuz their gender.

I don’t know about a bad portrayal of women but Malin Ã…kerman is a bad portrayal of an actress.
He he…so true.
J.
Iron Man 2 does loook good, and I hope I’m right, cause I don’t want to pay #8 for a junky Marvel movie, and pay #4 for junky Marvel Comics at the same time.

Whenever a movie is based off almost entirely of a comic, that’s almost guaranteed to happen.
And why you’re going to see it happen less and less.
Good!
I so hope Zack Snyder doesn’t do The Dark Knight Returns, that would just irate me to no end.
I don’t think you have any reason to be worried.
I’d like to see that myself
I am well aware of what a sycophant is. I probably shouldn’t have thrown that word around while E was talking about religion but the word still is apropos in describing the person who he was talking about in the comments section. It was as if this commenter was sucking on Millar’s balls as he typed his comments. Am I still not using the word correctly?

Heehee, yes, the grammar police has ruled in your favor if that is the case.
Oh, I just typed that cause, well that wass my instant reaction. Typing error: what I meant to type was: I am not disagreeing with you about the commentor, don’t know how I typed that, lol 🙂
Oh, did you mean on the youtube comments section? I don’t read those anymore so I have no idea what you are talking about if that is the case. I let Elliott deal with those bastards over there. 🙂
J.
No, I meant my screw up, in my 2nd last comment.
I just disagree on the religious person part, cause that is an ambiguous/too generic term 😛
What do you mean by ambiguous term?
Open to two or more interpretations.
Ok.
I’m not a sociopath.
I’m just weird, lol 😛
Shit, i’m still not caught up on the video segments, but I’m gonna have to find time to watch this one tonight. I’d like to hear your thoughts on Kick-Ass. Oh definitley, Millar is top of the list, Bendis has been mowed down.
its really the case of what charecters people know is who they will go and see and support. those are the comic movies that will do well.
has anyone read nemisis it really dosen’t look good considering marvels promo for it is CIVIL WAR NOTHING. KICK ASS A WARM UP WHO IS THE MOST BAD ASS CHARACTER IN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE NEMISIS
That book was awful.
J.
there’ a surprise is this the same mark millar that wrote superman red son?
Unfortunatley yes 😦
i thimk he’s just got lazy or he stole the red son script from someone else?
that’s supposed to be think
He stole it from Grant Morrison.
J.
haha or geoff johns before he fucked up the last issue of blackest night
MAN! I had totally forgotten who was the writer of that. Red Son is indeed too amazing, it is hard to think it is the same guy indeed. if bendis explains what happened it will be skrull. or if he stole red son from Grant Morrison who did he steal ultimates from?
I may be in the minority here, but I thought Red Son sucked major donkey dick. Interesting concept that basically got derailed by Millar’s “Oh, superheroes in real life would be fascist” shtick. You sneaky blighters. There’s an even newer video up at the Youtube channel already. I rarely go there anymore, but I caught it.
Hope it doesn’t cause a rash.
J.

no doubt kick ass was a good movie but all i could think of when watching the film i hope they make deadpool like this
Hmm? Vaughn on Deadpool, could work!
I doubt he’d do it though, got burned by Marvel twice X3 and Thor
This video was awesome guys.
Happy birthday Mike!
J.
Thank you so much Jose! Seeing a new CCW video was the greatest gift of all 🙂
So said Whitney Houston
Yeah, Mike, Happy B-day, man!
Happy B-Day, I missed it by 18 min, but still
Happy Birthday!
Thank you very much guys! 🙂
Happy Birthday! My card is in the mail. It’s late because I took some time to get Geoff Johns to write it for you.
LMAO. hahah. Thanks man, I’m eagerly awaiting it.
movies like kick ass will kill any chance for non well know comics to be made in to movies,so hopefully jonah hex dose great at the box office.
I’d rather see Scott Pilgrim do well, from what I seen Jonah Hex reminds me of Ghost Rider for some reason and I didn’t like Ghost Rider all that much.
Jonah Hex looks even worse than I thought…

Giant Spider?
I hope it’s not Jon Peters bad.
Yes, Mspot that’s exactly what I thought when I saw the poster. Great minds think a like.
links: lolz.
and there is nothing wrong with self promotion all of us do it, that and wacking off.

I’m excited to see where it goes from here.
hey when’s the next chatroom talks going on and where’s the link? thanks,

Well, he’s got the right look, but that Tupperware armor is painful to look at, I hope they can touch that up later to make it look more like actual metal.
when i first seen it looked a bit plastic but it still looked good and a lot more modern.
I did think the movie was going to be successful. I really am glad I was wrong just this once.

On the subject of good movies, I decided to have an Asian cinema day today. Saw 2BRK, Ichi the Killer, Suicide Club, and the first twenty minutes of Tokyo Gore Police! I predict some vivid dreams tonight.
Holy shit. You watched all of those today!? What did you think of them?
J.
