  1. why is millar doing this he was an amazing writer a one point but now i don’t know if he is under pressure of writing so many books and doing promo for nemisis and kick ass or if all this attention and fame has gone to his head and he’s gotten arogant in any case i feel sorry for him maybe he needs to take a break and recharge his creativity batteries

Great episode guys! I loved it! 🙂

  3. mitiators says:

I was pretty pissed too when I was thumbing through UA 2 #1 and saw Punisher shooting guys for 7 pages with no dialogue. I love the Punisher, I have plenty Punisher books where he is shooting people. Except those books have words!
I was also pumped to see an alternate vision of the character. What’s different here? Millar is the worst. I love Red Son, probably my favorite Supes story next to All Star, but that is not a get out of jail free card. Kick Ass, Nemesis, Ultimate Avengers, just lazy and immature writing. Marvel needs to clean house.

  4. littlekingryan* says:

So I’m not the only one who thought that Punisher costume was right out of PWZ circa 07! By Saturday, my local comic shop had sold out of UA2… Also, artists ALWAYS do all the heavy lifting!

  5. Venom829 says:

Millar is also the next trashy story of Kick-Ass : “Balls To The Wall”. 😦

  6. Rob F says:

I’m sorry, I can’t even really give him the whole, ‘stretched to thin that it affects his writing’ excuse. That would work if Marvel actually needed him to write four books in order for them to be a successful company but they don’t. And it’s not like he really cares one way or the other what the fans think because he just keeps pumping it out. You are right when the blame falls directly on Marvel. It’s up to someone overthere to make sure that the content delivers on whatever’s promised. Then again, I guess we live in an ends justify the means type world so it won’t ever really change until Marvel’s bottom dollar gets impacted. But I think back to my teen years which weren’t that long ago and honestly wonder if I could stomach that type of storytelling. And that really is where Millar has the industry by the balls in that they know he is capable of better and will keep hanging on hoping that it will turn around.

  7. vegedge says:

this video was the most i have ever seen jose amused by elliot. usually the jokes are answered with a eye roll.

elliot was kinda mean in this one and it was great. elliot get pissed off more often on video.
(fuck that marvel editor. its okay to say bad things about him. you really dont wanna work for that company currently run by hacks)

  8. SMARTASS8 says:

If Elliott ever gets a job writing a Marvel book, I hope it contains a villain who rapes men who just happen to look like Mark Millar, B.M. Bendis, and JoeyQ. “Edgy” and just desserts all at the same time.

  9. IronMuskrat says:

Millar’s problem is that he is too smart. I mean, he has figure it out, the guy has created the Rosetta Stone for fanboys. He’s figured out just what he has to do to get the maximum loyalty from his fanbase with the minimum effort.

I don’t hate the guy, I mean he not getting a dime of my money for now, but someone is buying his books. So until this hard core fans turn on him I doubt you will see any changes in the type and quality of the books Millar is putting out there.

    • vegedge says:

thats like saying the guys who make all those awful ‘scary movies'(and datemovie, superheromovie, ….) are too smart because they still find ways to make money.

millar is not doing anything new. he sells because the companys promote his shit everywhere as the best thing around. and he is connected enough to get movies made of his terrible concepts.

  10. MaximusRift says:

I really wish they would just put the Ultimate Universe out of it’s misery. Pretty soon Ult. U will go the same route the M2 universe did.

    • vegedge says:

it will. 2099 died off aswell as marvel 2 universe and that trash. soon noir and ultimate and 1402 will go away. and then be reused in twenty years in some cross dimension junk

  11. Angelo2106 says:

I think the Red Skull story could have actually work if the editor had actually try to edit. In my opinion the story just needed a more clear direction(is the Red Skull evil incarnate or conflicted human being), just pick one and stick with it.

    • Luiz de Mello says:

It could have worked if throughout the story you had hints that he is not entirely the monster, that there is something other than that, but for some reason he is still goes and does it. It could be explicit, but not necessarily (intentionally keeping it dubious till last minute, when you have a ‘revelation’ of what those moments actually meant). As long as there was some every now and then, it could work.

  12. Dre says:

Review more DD! That is all. 🙂

  13. Stamps says:

Maybe it was just me but I thought when reading it that you were supposed to call bull shit on Red Skull’s weak ass “I just wanted to be a family” story.
That way when Fury axes him it can be one of Millar’s big testosterone filled “bad ass” endings that he gets off on.

    • You know Stamps, I may have bought that “you were supposed to call BS on Skull’s weak ass story” IF they did not actually HAVE the panel where it showed him as a kid with his family. In the language of sequential art that shows me that that was indeed what he was thinking. I believe if he were truly lying that panel would not have been there. Just my opinion though.

      J.

      • Stamps says:

I don’t know, that’s just the way I took it to mean. Millar loves to have a character say a one liner then kill or threaten someone, so I figured that he just put the “I just wanted a family” story in so that he could have Fury have that kind of moment.

Either way it shows just how sad his writing is nowadays that it’s hard to even keep up with what “edgy twist” he’s using at a particular time.

      • SMARTASS8 says:

Jose, I was wondering. Do you read some of these Millar and Bendis books(maybe Johns as well these days) because you have time to kill while working at Dreamland, as fodder for CCW, because you’re a glutton for punishment, or because you’re an optimist who thinks they might get better?

        • I read them because I try to read most of the industry “best sellers” so if customers have questions I can answer them. That’s the nuber one reason why I read them. All of the other reasons you mentioned (except for the last one) are also valid to a lesser extant.

          J.

          • SMARTASS8 says:

You’re a conscientious retailer. Some of the ones I’ve dealt with in the past were either so clueless about certain books, I had to answer customers’ questions or they just pretended they knew what they were talking about even though you could see right through them.
