As much as I hated “Kick-Ass”, I really don’t think they were trying to sexualize Hit Girl(at least in the comic; the movie had her dress up like a “school girl” stripper). “Leon” on the other hand, creeps me out. As attractive as I find Portman, I don’t need to see her in a see through wife beater when she a little kid.

  1. cballsack says:

    Cool, a new picture.

  2. Deemar says:

Natalie Portman my future ex wife after the first one

  3. Deemar says:

Looking at that pic makes me wanna see DD in a team book

    • cballsack says:

Ugh, not me. Couldn’t disagree more. DD is a loner. I never want to see him working on a team unless it’s a temporary thing.

Ditto Spider-Man. He shouldn’t be on the Avengers. Fuck Bendis to hell. Spidey had Marvel Team-Up. That was good enough.

      • Adam727 says:

        Bendis

      • I agree 100% with you ballsack. The day Marvel let Bendis take a bunch of LONER characters and put them on a TEAM is the day they slowly starting killing themselves.

        J.

        • cballsack says:

One of my all-time favorite Stan Lee stories was the one where Spider-Man tries out for the Avengers and fails. To me that perfectly summed up Spidey’s character. He was a lovable loser, a loner, someone who could never fit in with a team, either as Peter Parker or as Spider-Man. I feel like Spidey on the Avengers pisses all over that classic story.

          • Well, Spidey as an Avenger likes to tell women to “Shut the fuck up.” Isn’t that so cool? He’s so bad ass when he’s an Avenger. Christ…

            J.

            • Deemar says:

I’ve come too believe all Bendis dialogue is him transcribing conversations with his wife

            • SMARTASS8 says:

I don’t mind Spidey on the Avengers(at least if he’s only on one team and he doesn’t become a permanent fixture like Thor or Cap used to be). I think Spidey is a loner due to so many personal problems and because he doesn’t always get the respect that someone like Mr. Fantastic or Captain America get. I think there’s a difference between that type of loner and someone like Daredevil who’s a loner because he’s a self destructive misogynistic asshole. Although, from what I’ve seen of the BND stories, Peter seems to be acting that way as well these days.

      • Deemar says:

For me I’m tired of doom and gloom Matt Murdock

Let’s see how it goes in a real team book

      • phil says:

Well my fellow non meat eater…I agree with you, partially. DD is perfect as a loner (unless you count him leading The Hand) DD is the quintessential loaner, no doubt.
As for Spidey, why he has’nt joined a team years ago is beyond me. Everyone’s like…Spidey’s a loner, Bats (Bruce) is a loner, yet these two guys have “teamed” up with more characters than anyone else. Personally I felt that Spidey should have joined the Defenders back when they were considered a non team.
Dr. Strange….sorcery is known, but is not accepted by the masses
        Hulk…a gamma spawned Frankenstein
        S. Surfer…A former herald to a planet eater
        Namor…Namor
        Valkrie…Guilt by association
Spiderman…Thanks to JJJ, his motives are always suspect
So while Spidey arguably may or may not be right for the Avengers, I wound’nt right him off as a team player.

    • DD WAS in a team book and it was called the New Avengers. We all know how awesome that turned out.

  4. IronMuskrat says:

I don’t know what to think about this, on one hand it’s horrible the guy did this, on the other hand I sort of felt the same way about the movie =)

    • This is OLD!!!!

But, ya, I saw this a while ago and laughed my ass off. Mostly because I find happiness is watching ANYONE cry.

There were rumors going around for a while that this was fake but I don’t know. Looked real enough to me. And if this was in fact real then the dude filming this is indeed an asshole. An asshole I would like to have a beer with.

      J.

      • Insideman says:

Absolutely looked real to me… and hilarious.

      • IronMuskrat says:

I wasn’t too sure how old this one was, never saw it before.

What was amazing to me was not so much the guy was an asshole or that he was so up front about his evil intentions to his wife..

What got me was how attractive she was for this nerdy little dude. Instead of ragging on his wife, he should be thanking whatever unseen deity that fucked up and let him score a woman way above his pay-grade.

However, the wife seems fairly unstable, no telling what else she loses her marbles over, she’s probably a pain in the ass to live with. So I guess it all evens out in the end =)

      • SmokeyClocks says:

    • Adam727 says:

I remember this Douche bag. This guys has a website asking people to suggest which movies his wife should watch, so he can film her crying about it.

    • kurumais says:

i saw this a couple months ago it was so wacky i couldn’t stop laughing

    • cballsack says:

I’m not buying this for one second. To quote Senator Vreenak:

    • SMARTASS8 says:

If that’s real, she’s got to be nuts. No one should cry like that about after a fucking movie unless they’re 4 years old or the movie was directed by Rob Zombie.

      • generaldark says:

lol omg i could have cried during halloween 2 the remake, i couldnt even finish that piece of shit

        • SMARTASS8 says:

Considering Carpenter’s original Halloween is one of my favorite horror movies of all time, I hated Zombie’s first movie as well(he writes like he’s a 16 year old boy who just found out about the f-word; Michael Myers didn’t need an origin much less a white trash one; all of his Grade Z celebrity cameos took me out of the movie unlike when Tarantino does that) but the second movie almost seemed like he was just fucking with the audience. A pumpkin head dinner and a dead mom & her white horse? What the fuck?

    • phil says:

This guy should count himself as being lucky that she never goes lorena Bobbitt on his ass! Toying with someone’s emotions like that is never a good thing. Hell, I forcing back tears having seen Observe and Report. Of course in that case it was the fact that I plunked down 8 bucks for that steaming pile, and I would never get my mony back. Dammit, the tears are starting to well up just thnking about it.

  5. Deemar says:

  8. Stamps says:

So Comic Vine just trashed Doomwar in a review. I like Comic Vine for the most part, but their reviews SUCK!!!
True, I’m a little worried after I found out that they are bringing Deadpool into the mix. I really don’t want Doomwar to be just part of Marvel’s “pimp Deadpool in every book we have” marketing scheme, but this review is just on the previous books. How can you hate this book, it’s a really good book all around. What the FUCK is wrong with them.

    Here’s the review:

    http://www.comicvine.com/news/brutally-honest-whats-wrong-with-doomwar/141228/

    • kurumais says:

the guy that runs my LCS was telling me deadpool sales have been dropping across the board looks like marvel is running that franchise into the ground

i had been reading black panther right up to doomwar but i didnt pick up doomwar because i cant stand the xmen different strokes for different folks

      • Stamps says:

Yeah they are for sure running it into the ground. I’m on board there with you on the X-Men(though I actually like the way they are portrayed in Doomwar) I’ve never been a big fan of the X-Men.

Are there Black Panther trades of the series that preceded Doomwar?
I’ve never really read Black Panther, but I’m really digging Doomwar so I might pick up one if it’s not a crazy expensive hardcover.

        • Edward2962 says:

As far as the Panther is concerned, there’s the Reggie Hudlin stuff.I’m not sure if trades of Chris Priest Marvel knights series is still in print, but the earlier issues of that was a really fun read. There’s of course the 70’s Kirby series available, but that might not fit suit everyone’s taste.I REALLY wish marvel would reprint the Don Mcgregor’s Jungle Action series from the 70’s.Exciting and provocative.

    • Mike F says:

ComicVine is the worst Comic Site I ever visited, bro.

Its just a bunch of geeks in their 20’s going on and off about how much Millar and Johns makes them smile.

      • Mike F says:

At least here in the CCW nation, we get rants. Which is my personal favorite thing about CCW. NO other site gives rants, just praise for the worst writers. Probably cause they bought a bad comic and want others to buy so they don’t feel alone.

At least CCW takes a stand against that shit.

      • Stamps says:

I think it’s a useful site (with the wiki aspect), and can be fun in other areas of the site as well. But GOD the reviews are the worst. Everything Millar does especially is like some literary manna from heaven to them.

      • Deemar says:

        Holy shit!

I hate ComicVine with a passion!

They make me wanna throw my laptop at a random victim

        • Man, you guys really hate that site, huh? I have never even seen any of their reviews. How was I so unaware of the existence of what sounds like “the worst comic review site on the interwebs”? I always thought that title belonged to CBR or IGN.

          J.

          • Deemar says:

            No J No!

Comic vine is the steaming heaping pile of comic sites.

These people judge/rate a comic by the damn covers!

They actually, genuinely like LOEB, Loeb?!

            It’s definately the Bizarro CCW

    • Bobcat says:

@Stamps yeah i like Comic Vine, but i Fucking hate there reviews man. That lame fuck
G-man does their video comicbook reviews all the time. In the begining of their videos he always mentions that he didn’t like the comicbook but some how he always seems to give it a fucking 4.5 out of 5. It makes no sence to me. Also that girl Babs does reviews with G-Man and they just have no chemistry. Not like Elliott and Jose LOL. NO HOMO. I’m just saying. Those folks over there get paid atleast i think they do, and yet they are so unprofessional. I know jose and elliott have mentioned how lazy they each are but they do a hell of job with the CCW Nation.

    • Adam727 says:

This is coming from a person who though Siege was awesome. Seriously, Babs go back to hooking. Doom War is an awesome book.

    • If you hate Doomwar you hate good comics period. It’s as easy as that.

      J.

    • tomstewdevine says:

    SHADOW-LAND!

    Can’t wait 🙂

  11. NoEmoDaredevil says:

Love the DD 500 pic. First thing I thought of when I saw it was how disappointed I was with Bendis not exploring Murdock as the “Kingpin” and his underusing of Typhoid Mary, whom I believe is one of the best DD villains. Bendis wrote DD beating Kingpin’s ass and declaring himself the new boss only to skip ahead 1 year. Not only does that age the character in an extremely weak way, but it avoids some good stories.

Daredevil SHOULD be a villain. Just like they have heel turns in wrestling, they should occasionally do that in comics. DD has never been a real A-lister (Miller aside) so I see no problem in turning him into a nut job. (I actually liked Emerald Twilight btw) And for the record, I’m still not completely convinced he’s a bad guy under Diggle’s pen. Shadowland could change that though. Can’t wait for that book.

Another person who should be a villain is Black Widow. Talk about not owning up to your name. Look at issue #3 of Black Widow: Deadly Origin. That could be one of the best villain teams Marvel’s ever had.

    • I wouldn’t want to see DD as an actual villain. I don’t think Matt Murdock could ever be totally evil. I see him as a hero, but a hero on the fringes.

What I always loved about the character is how he’s all about overcoming odds. He’s blind, but when wronged, he still goes out to fight the good fight.

      • Mike F says:

I agree. I like seeing a hero with a darker lifestyle which is DD. He’s like Batman in a way. He tries to stop evil but he does it in a darker way than Spidy or Superman.

        • Pobra says:

DD has always been about Murdock getting dragged through the mud and doing some horrible things in order to do the right thing. His intentions are always in the right place but, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” That pretty much sums up DD. I’m not sure you could effectively make him a full fledged villain because you’re always rooting for him to drag himself up again.

  13. Edward2962 says:

Ok,I just read Secret Avengers #1.I actually thought it was not bad.The characters are introduced fairly smoothly, mission statement explained easily, the plot and mysteries are established. It doesn’t feel like there was alot of filler.Steve Rogers is powerful and confidant and yet not an A-hole.It’s basically close to what I wished Ultimate Avengers was.

    • AvS says:

Or that employees and management should be aware of safety precautions at the workplace. That or you should work from home. Personally, I prefer to work from home. Screw safety!

    • SMARTASS8 says:

Did those air in Canada? Those couldn’t have aired on TV in the US. They look like something out of a Final Destination movie. If I saw those as a kid, I’d probably have had nightmares for a week.

  16. Pobra says:

This has to be my all-time favorite PSA (aside from the infamous Pee-Wee “crack” PSA) this one has always stuck with me. Just look at that animation! Goddamn I miss the 80’s.

  17. Just A Friendly retort says:

For a website, who claim to be feminists and growing tired of existing women-in-refrigerator,respecting the minority opinions, but: “…go back to hooking” and its retort “hahaha, you’re great Adam,”and “If you hate Doomwar you hate good comics period. It’s as easy as that” comments just make this website seems hypocritical. Besides, I thought Jose and Elliot hate comments like that?

    • How does my Doomwar comment make me a hypocrite? It is a GOOD comic. It is a great comic and if people don’t like it they don’t like good comics. That’s my opinion. What the fuck does that have to do with being a feminist?

Also, The “You’re great Adam” comment was made by one of our WOMEN commenters. If you don’t know what you are talking about please just don’t.

Any more unfounded accusations you want to throw our way?

      J.

    • Stamps says:

So the person your talking about is me..and IM A GIRL.

so your little argument basically making me out to be some knuckle-dragging fan-boy doesn’t really hold any water.
And as a woman I have a little more information on the subject of the treatment of women in comic books and online by fan-boys I can tell you the reason I like being at this forum is the respect I get here. Many people here know that I’m a girl and everybody here has treated me, and other women (fictional or real) with respect. I can’t say that for other sites.

    • Deemar says:

      Just A Friendly retort

      that name fits

like a hand up your ass, buddy E & J are good people you talk shit to them you talk shit to all of us in the CCW crew.

    • Adam727 says:

If it was a man, I would have said the same thing. G-man, should go back to hooking for liking Rulk. I saw how he was marveling at Leob’s ass when he was interviewing him – Telling him how genius it was. Leob is a now a medical condition as far as I’m concerned. You know, where your brain slowly starts oozing out your nose. I like the guys at CCW. Jose and Elliot do a great job with reviews. They tell it like it is. That my friend takes guts, which these guys at Newsarama or CBR should grow a pair. Long live the CCW Nation!

what did you think? it was a huge tease set up kind of thing. i am trying figure out where he is going to show up next. also noh varr seems very different personality wise. not as brash or aggressive. he use to be very “grey area” now very much on the side of angels

  22. megamanx4ever says:

Jose have you ever watched gundam and if so what are you thoughts on 00 and other gundams?

    • I have watched Gundam Wing and I liked that but haven’t seen to many of the other series. Though, one of my favorite anime of all time is Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. I loved that series.

      J.

      • megamanx4ever says:

Yeah I liked wing and I am probably gonnacheck out 0080 as soon as I can. Even though I didnt see 0080 yet I see the opening Fight scene which is probably one of my favorite fights in any anime I watched.

        • War in the Pocket is probably one of the most depressing anime I have ever seen. Just giving you fair warning.

          J.

          • megamanx4ever says:

yeah I heard 0080 is pretty depressing but I will still check it out. Oh and if you ever get the chance check out Gundam 00 and 08th ms team because those two series of gundam are my personal favorite. I think you can watch the first ten episodes of 00 on youtube.

            • I actually have the Viz “anime comic” of 08th ms team that they put out like 10 years (or more) ago. It’s a comic where they took the animation stills and put word balloons on them.

    “User: oscaroonie

Is funny when Elliot reads a Morrison comic is his fault for not liking it but when he reads a Bendis book is Bendis who is at fault, then you guys complain for being called haters. also the way you criticize comes outs as angry fanboyz instead of reviewers. I would expected it from Jose(just a fanboy) but not comic writer, Elliot”

  26. Interesting you say that D. We have had 5 new people post on the blog just today and I have had 7 new friend requests on facebook as of yesterday.

*SPOILER* War Of The Superman #4 *SPOILER*

I thought DC had given me one too many deaths today. If they had actually killed Krypto like I originally thought, I was about to drop all of their books. I wish they would just have an entire year where no one died.

    • That book was horrible. **Spoilers**

I love how Lane can blow his head off right in front of Supergirl and she does nothing.

Plus, Thara dies but Chris lives? That right there is ANOTHER female superhero dead! Shame on DC.

      • SMARTASS8 says:

While it sucked about Thara, I wasn’t surprised. I figured that other than Clark, Supergirl, Zod’s crew, and, thank God, Krypto, most, if not all, of the other Kryptonians were eventually going to be killed or removed from the playing board. I’m actually surprised that Chris wasn’t killed.

  32. SMARTASS8 says:

Jose, are you & Ellioot going to be reviewing the upcoming “Heroic Age” reboots? I didn’t buy them, but I flipped through today’s Secret Avengers and Thunderbolts. Secret Avengers had me intrigued way more than Bendis’ Avengers book did from last week. Thunderbolts & Man-Thing!!! Leave it to Jeff Parker to do something new & cool with that character.

  33. cballsack says:

I saw this book at Barnes & Noble today and I feel compelled to buy it:

    Shatnerquake (Paperback)

    Product Description
    It’s Shatner VS Shatners!

William Shatner? William Shatner. WILLIAM SHATNER!!! It’s the first ShatnerCon with William Shatner as the guest of honor! But after a failed terrorist attack by Campbellians, a crazy terrorist cult that worships Bruce Campbell, all of the characters ever played by William Shatner are suddenly sucked into our world. Their mission: hunt down and destroy the real William Shatner.

Featuring: Captain Kirk, TJ Hooker, Denny Crane, Rescue 911 Shatner, Singer Shatner, Shakespearean Shatner, Twilight Zone Shatner, Cartoon Kirk, Esperanto Shatner, Priceline Shatner, SNL Shatner, and – of course – William Shatner!

No costumed con-goer will be spared in their wave of destruction, no redshirt will make it out alive, and not even the Klingons will be able to stand up to a deranged Captain Kirk with a lightsaber. But these Shatner-clones are about to learn a hard lesson…that the real William Shatner doesn’t take crap from anybody. Not even himself.

    It’s Shatnertastic!

    • SMARTASS8 says:

Denny Crane is the only one I’d be interested in(although I guess Kirk and Twilight Zone Shatner are OK).

just some jonathan winters weirdness because i love him

    • SMARTASS8 says:

Jonathan Winters is a comedic genius who I feel is often overlooked. Everyone seems to bring up Pryor, Carlin, and Cosby but forget Winters. I think his comedy, unlike a lot of what is out there, is impoosible to duplicate(although Robin Williams tried).

      • kurumais says:

        “you never landed”

I saw people talking about anime manga earlier and the first thing that comes to my mind when talking about that is this, which I simply love:

Well, it the second thing to come to my mind, the first is Dragon Ball which I grew up watching/reading, but we really don’t want to step into my childhood and teenage, it was a weird time.

  42. generaldark says:

OMFG IGN gave the latest issue of doomwar a 5.0 (meh) i can barely stay in my seat right now i want to hit something!!!

    • It seems it has become “cool” to hate on Doomwar lately. Mind you I thought the new issue was excellent.

My reasoning behind this is because it makes all the “popular” writer’s comics (Bendis, Loeb, Milar) look like the complete shit that they are. Most sites are run by fanboys who love those three and if something makes them look bad it must be dealt with.

      J.

      • phil says:

I don’t know about how “cool” it is, but the fact Deadpool is making an appearance in the 4th issue is not something that pleases me. I have thouroly enjoyed this series and would hate for it to be marred with this joke a minute character. Fortunately I enjoy this series more than I dislike this character. I’m hoping Maberry can pull off using this guy and not have him disrupt the flow of an amazing series.

  43. Mike F says:

Since we were on the subject of Manga earlier, I find it strange ppl go on about how its so abstract compared to USA comics. Really its the same. They’re both comics. Think about this, some of the best USA comic writers are English. and YET they are writing for American characters… England is still quite different from USA in terms of manners and morality. Do you guys feel so strange when you read an Englishman’s work when he writes for Batman or Spider-man?

So why is there this taboo among the CCW citizens about reading a Japanese writer’s work?

I really don’t get it. In fact, I am ashamed to think of it, cause to be honest, and I know you’ll all disagree but there are some Japanese comic writers who have turned out hit after hit after hit so consistently, that your more likely to make a safe investment with them than CERTAIN USA writers….

But yeah, that’s just me. I’m not “scared” to read books from another country. IDK why so many of you are…

    • kurumais says:

when you talk about american comics you are talking super hero comics and manga is a whole different ball game its a completely different form of comic im not saying is better then the other but its apples and oranges thats like saying you like tv shows so why not watch japanese tv shows they are both tv shows. well not exactly since there is a lot of over lap between american comic fans and anime fans but there are still huge differences in the genres
probably the main reason i dont read much manga is by the time it gets over here its up to volume 900 and very few good jumping on points.

      • Mike F says:

I’d actually say manga has better jumping on points: i mean you can always find volume one for any manga whereas, if someone bought a Detective comics issue, its really likely you won’t know what’s happening unless someone told you its a new arch. seeing that its up in the 800’s might feel intimidating to a new reader.

And from what I’ve read in manga, I don’t see the differences if you compared it to Vertigo or WildStorm. The plots are just as ambiguous. Just as good.

My overall point was how stupid it was to hear others say that if they read a Japanese comic they’ll somehow be related to all the worst parts of Japanese modern day culture. It actually makes me laugh when ________ assumed that by reading a Manga, he’d be connecting to the same culture that has panties in vending machines. By that logic, any Asian or European person would be a criminal related to Gun Control (considering the fact that our stats are in the 1000’s) if they should read a USA comic…

    • SMARTASS8 says:

“England is still quite different from USA in terms of manners and morality. Do you guys feel so strange when you read an Englishman’s work when he writes for Batman or Spider-man?”

Yes I do. Alan Moore is one of the few Brits who I feel does a great job(or at least, at one time did) on American superhero comics without making every Yank use British slang or feel like something written just to “take the piss out of” Americans.

I also feel there are a lot less differences between Americans & Brits than there are Americans & Asians.

Why does reading only American comics matter if there are more than enough out there that I want to read. As I said before, I’d be more tempted to try manga on a regular basis if I didn’t already have more American books I want to read than my money & time can handle. I’m not trying to prove my quality as a reader to society in general by reading as many non-English speaking comics as I can.

      • Mike F says:

Well, my initial point wasn’t to convert anyone, I just noticed a lot of people bashing manga and I have the right to defend it. Just as you have the right to defend your reasons for not reading it for whatever you choose to defend. This is an open thread, and I believe I approached the issue pretty maturely. I just believe there’s a “stereotype” manga gets and I wanna do my part and try to change that so that Japanese writers I see get as much respect and support they can. Because I truly love their work. The same way I am with Grant Morrison and Alan Moore but most of the citizens of the CCW NATION are USA comic readers so what’s the point of defending Grant or Alan when they already probably read them?

I honestly wasn’t trying to make it seem like manga was better, I was just trying to give reasons to people who assume Japan is some kind of evil in terms of comics/anime. The same stereotype given to them could be given to USA comics saying they’re all about capes and for children when the times have changed. The times have changed for Japanese comics as well.

“I also feel there are a lot less differences between Americans & Brits than there are Americans & Asians.”

True but not 100% true, considering how incredibly influenced the Japanese are to our culture and life-styles. In face, I’d dare to say that its an even status for both countries to ours.

I never wanted anyone to feel inferior about not buying Asian comics. I am just defending some of the Asian writers that have really proven to me they have an extraordinary story to tell…

Can anyone care to explain the end of Return of Bruce Wayne #2?? I just re read it for the 2nd time and what
I got out of it was that the bio organic archivist at the end of time (the vanishing point) that superman, booster, and hal went to see ended up being a future bruce wayne and stole their time sphere?

  48. Dre says:

Has anyone here gotten Secret Avegers? What did you think? Worth the four dollars?

  49. Friedmiester says:

  50. Well, Thursday set a new record for most hits ever in a single day on this blog. I guess Elliott’s sensationalistic journalism won out in the end.

    Another anime fan here. 🙂

  52. Insideman says:

Jose, You’ll be happy to hear that I was able to track down complete runs of Cannon God Exxaxion, Genshiken and Oldboy.

Also Gunsmith Cats– but in the “REVISED EDITIONS”. Any idea what the hell that means?

Also saw Gunsmith Cats: Burst. Any thoughts on that series?

Thanks again for all the help!

    • Oh, wow. I’ll only be happy to hear that if you like the series. 🙂

The Gunsmith Cats “Revised Editions” are sort of like omnibus editions of the original volumes. It’s all good. It is the original series. Gunsmith Cats: Burst in the second series or “sequel” if you will. I have only read the first volume to Burst so I do not know what the rest of the series is like.

Also, You’ are very welcome for the help. Anytime you need info just ask. I am more than happy to help out.

      J.

I see the “Justice League: Cry For Justice” HC is coming out next week.

When is the scheduled book burning? 🙂

    • Deemar says:

I hate that story so much I’ll be there with napalm

    • Good grief. You know, I know a lot of people may think I am nuts but when customers ask me for my opinion on whether or not they should buy a monthly or a collection I am always honest with them. Fuck the money. Building trust with them is more important. If I have a lot of people asking me my opinion on Cry for Justice I don’t think I will be selling to many of the hardcovers.

      J.

      • Insideman says:

        Jose,

It has always been my experience that trust between retailer and fan is PARAMOUNT.

As you know, there is PLENTY of GREAT stuff you can really promote and people WILL listen to you because they know you have been honest with them in the past.

I used to know this comic retailer who thought everything was “HOT”… Everything was “GREAT”.

I also used to think that FAT CHEFS were better than SKINNY CHEFS… Until I got older and realized that a FAT CHEF is just a FAT FUCK who’ll eat ANYTHING and a SKINNY CHEF knows when to wait and open his mouth for the GOOD STUFF.

As YOU have no doubt decided– YOUR integrity is worth quite a but more than a $3.99, 22 page Piece of Shit.

        More power to you.

  55. Insideman says:

    OMG! MY LIFE IS RUINED!!!

    • Whoa. That Lee douche won? He is from where I live. Mount Prospect, IL. Fuck, now I have to deal with more bullshit around here about him than normal. God fucking damn it. Fucking American Idol..

      J.

      • I didn’t watch it, but I could tell ya now, none of them were worth a shit anyway. American Idol contestants never are.

The only one I ever sort of liked was Kelly Clarkson, and only cause she was hot..

  56. Mike F says:

Damn, I missed out on a Conversation involving anime! 😦

  57. Friedmiester says:

Is anyone here reading the Second Coming crossover?? I just read the latest issue of X-Force, which was part 9 of the 14 part crossover, and it fucking ruled. I’ve been enjoying the crossover to a certain extent, but this issue blew me away, and got me very excited about the rest of the story. The art on the book by Choi was actually perfect for this chapter in the story. Too bad Dodson’s art on Uncanny totally throws me out of the story. It’s a little too cartoony for such a dramatic/violent story.

    What do you guys think?

    • Venom829 says:

X-books right now are some of the WORST quality books Marvel is monthly producing, next to Bendis books.

    • Rob F says:

I agree…this is the crossover I think more people should be talking about because it echoes back to the glory days of X-Executioner’s Song which was one of my favorites growing up. X-Force also happens to be my favorite X-book at the moment.

      • tomstewdevine says:

X-force was unreadable when Crain was doing art, but since the S.C. crossover it is the best looking book in the whole series. Mike Choi is killing the art duties.

        • Rob F says:

It is so weird…I don’t know if it’s the color pallete or what but everything is just so dark. And then Choi’s arc comes up and it’s beautiful. For whatever reason it doesn’t seem like Choi can do a monthly but the work he puts out is worth it.

      • Locusmortis says:

I never thought I’d hear X-Executioners song be hailed as a classic, Inferno or Fall of the Mutants perhahps, now there were proper epics!

  58. Pobra says:

Does anyone else find themselves having this problem?
Lately I’ve noticed that I relate far more to the members of CCW than I do my own friends. For example, I’ll crack a joke involving some obscure reference and get some strange looks and not a whole lot else. and I think to myself, “Jose would have got that”, or “Deemar would have found that funny”. Anyone else notice this phenomenon taking place in their own lives?

    • I actually do that myself. I kind of have two groups of friends I hang out with. One that is into comics and pop culture and one that is so not. I do know what you mean.

      J.

      • Pobra says:

None of my friends read comics 😦
Well, that’s not entirely true, one of my friends reads Walking Dead in trade, but as soon as i start going on about “omega sanctions” and “anti-monitor’s” they just seem to tune out. And most of the people who frequent my LCS are rampant fucking fanbois.

        • tomstewdevine says:

I am with you Pobra, when I try to talk to someone I don’t know at my local comic book shop they always seem to love Old Man Logan and Deadpool corps. I have like 2 non-internet friends that I can have a intelligent conversation with about pop culture or comics.

    • Dre says:

Without real friends for comparison, it’s hard such a distinction. 😦

    • tomstewdevine says:

It would actually fit Peter’s character well if he was played by someone that wasn’t white.

    • TheMSpot says:

I have a question why hasn’t there been a black Doctor Who?

      • Actor Paterson Joseph was rumored for a while last year to be the new Doctor Who when David Tennant left. Obviously he didn’t become the new Doctor but there was talk of it being a serious possibility.

        J.

    • rush says:

I can see someone of the asian persuasion playing Spider-man. Phan Phamnguyen the Spectacular Spider-man.

    • rush says:

I have very little hope that Hollywood or Marvel can be that broad minded or progressive.

      • So true. Look at the Hollywood casting in the Prince of Persia and Last Airbender movies. I think the term that is being used is “White Washing”.

        J.

        • rush says:

Though it is interesting to see Dev Patel cast as Zuko. I have never seen an Indian actor cast in an American action oriented role. We are usually cast as convenient store owners or computer nerds. I don’t know if you’ve seen the animated show. Zuko is supposed to be a bad-ass.

        • cballsack says:

I was about to make the same point about Prince Of Persia. I would prefer to see a white Peter Parker because that’s how the character was established, and as a comic book fan, I do appreciate when the movies don’t change things too much. But there’s no excuse for the “white washing” of other movies where non-white characters are needed, as you so adeptly pointed out. Why has every cinematic or artistic portrayal of Jesus Christ been of a very American looking white male? Dude’s from the Middle East.

          • SMARTASS8 says:

I agree cball. I want Peter Parker white but that doesn’t mean Prince Of Persia or Jesus should be white as well. Although, the Evangelicals probably would have a fit if Jesus was potrayed in a movie as a Middle Easterner. As accurate as Mel Gibson attempted to make the language in Passion Of The Christ, he still cast a pale white guy as Jesus.

            • The ‘white washing’ of Jesus was done by the Catholic Church many, many moons ago for very much the same reasons the comic industry made most of their characters white: so white folks would fund them ‘relatable.’

BTW, Marvel Comics does have a Spiderman comic in India where Peter Parker is Indian. Mind you, he’s a somewhat different character than the US version. (Not a photographer for the Daily Bugle, for one.) But still, he’s Indian so that Indian kids will read the book.

              And it sells like GANGBUSTERS.

But anyway, I have yet to see Jesus portrayed as a man of color…

              Except for here:

              Elliott

              • SMARTASS8 says:

As soon as you mentioned the white washing of Jesus, I was going to scour YouTube for that episode of Good Times.

That Indian Spidey comic was released in the US a few years ago but it failed to find an audience.

      • TheMSpot says:

You would think JoeyQ would be behind more Latino characters in the Marvel U. I mean didn’t he create some sort of team book with a bunch of Latino character while he was on Daredevils. Also, why is they only Black Panther cartoon airing in Australia?

        • TheMSpot says:

Edit: why is the only Black Panther cartoon airing in Australia?

        • edward2962 says:

I think you might be refering to the team from Daredevil:Father.I believe that story was poorly received by the fans and Joe Q is all about the moolah, hence those characters haven’t been back.

I’ve only seen the Panther clips on You Tube, but judging from the comments, most ppl seem to not like it.Marvel probably felt it wasn’t worth the effort to distribute it wider.

    • edward2962 says:

I think just because Spiderman is such an iconic character, most ppl wouldn’t accept it as legit. They’ll say “oh,this is some PC alternative version” or “this is peter parker for the black people”.
There were rumors that Will Smith was going to play James Bond and some reactions were, “but of course” and others were “that’s not Bond!” I’m sure we all recall the recent Smith as Cap America controversy…

Vaguely related, does anyone remember a Spidey story from a few years ago where a young black child was missing his father? Spidey was his favorite hero and because Spidey wears a full face mask, the boy imagined Spiderman was really black? Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

      • TheMSpot says:

I remember Todd Mcfarlane talking about he wanted to do a side story where a criminal called Spider-Man the n word because of the full face mask, but that never happened because he left the company.

    • SMARTASS8 says:

If Spider-Man was a character who went through transformations(Doctor Who, Martian Manhunter) or was just a title that multiple characters went by(Blue Beetle, Green Lantern), then I would have no problem with it. Unfortunately, Peter Parker is a white guy. I hope he’s played by an actor I like better than Tobey Maguire but I want him white. I’d be just as frustrated if they made a movie where Luke Cage was white or Wonder Woman was Scottish. I remember some people crying racism when others were unhappy that Ralph Kramden was played by Cedric The Entertainer. Can you imagine the outrage if we got a Jeffersons movie where George & Weezy were play by Steve Carell & Margaret Cho?

      • How many shows have been made that starred black characters, smartass? And then compare that to the number of shows that have starred white folks.

I think THAT would be why folks might be annoyed by re-casting the Jeffersons.

Then again, no one may care.

        Elliott

P.S. This whole ‘Peter Parker has gotta be white’ debate is starting to piss me off, so I’m dropping out before I get into it with anyone.

        • Ha ha ha. Now THIS amuses me. 🙂

          J.

          • SMARTASS8 says:

No offense Jose, but I always thought you were the half of the CCW team that I’d occasionally have to tiptoe around. I never would have expected Elliott would be the one I pissed off. Although, me saying that probably just pissed you off as well. I can’t win.

      • SMARTASS8 says:

I’ll drop it with this post since I don’t want you to verbally attack me, but I feel that’s a huge double standard. You can never change a minority character from the race they’ve always been but, since there’s too much white entertainment out there, white people better keep their mouths shut if a white character has his race changed? I’m all for equality but that’s BS in my book. People should be treated as equals and thus, represented equally in entertainment, but I hate that my opinion shouldn’t count because I’m a straight white male(blame my parents) who has had nothing to do with persecuting any group(race, religion, or sexuality).

      • rush says:

I don’t thing Peter Parker’s ethnic background is integral to what makes the character likable and special. I agree that some characters ethic backgrounds should not be changed because their ethnic background is a key element that makes the character tic. Did you have a problem with Nick Fury being African American in the Ultimates?

        • SMARTASS8 says:

I didn’t have a problem with a black Nick Fury in the Ultimate Universe. I would have a problem if artists just started drawing him black in the original Marvel Universe. For me, it’s not about race but about changing things for no real reason(ie. Abomination’s design in the last Hulk movie and Bullseye in Daredevil).

For the record, even though I was originally against changing Kingpin & Nick Fury(I know he’s black in the Ultimates, but, since I’m not a fan of that universe, I want the movies to use the original universe for their template) for the Daredevil & Iron Man movies, they both worked out well. I can’t think of any white guy who would have made a better Kingpin and Sam Jackson stole all of his scenes in Iron Man 2.

          • rush says:

That’s the thing these characters have been around for so long the character’s will always have to change as our culture changes. It’s one of the many reasons why they get retconed. Need I remind anyone here how Blade was originally represented, with that horrible dashiki?
Speaking of Blade he Caucasian in an episode of the animated Spider-Man show from back in the day. Just thought that was interesting.

  59. phil says:

Well as a matter of the artistic I don’t see a problem with a person of color being Webhead, but as a practical matter I don’t see it happening. A person of color playing Spidey would pretty much shut down the franchise. Not that I don’t think an actor of color would do a bad job. The target audience just isn’t ready for Spiey, Bats or 007 to be sportin’ a fro.

I remember wanting Freddie Prinze Jr to play Spidey once upon a time. I felt that the then youthful Prinze had the classic Ditko / Spiderman look. Put a pair of glasses on him and he was “Peter”. Of course I believe hollywood would play his ethnicity down

At the end of the day cash is king and if H’wood thought they could bank on Black, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, Indian etc. actors to keep the cheddah flowing, it would have happened already.

Plus you know some yokel is gonna say; “hey! fine, why don’t we just get Clooney to play the Black Panther? 🙂

  60. rush says:

I do hope one day DC and/or Marvel come up with ethnic charcters with the potential to become top tier.
