As much as I hated “Kick-Ass”, I really don’t think they were trying to sexualize Hit Girl(at least in the comic; the movie had her dress up like a “school girl” stripper). “Leon” on the other hand, creeps me out. As attractive as I find Portman, I don’t need to see her in a see through wife beater when she a little kid.
I agree 100% with you ballsack. The day Marvel let Bendis take a bunch of LONER characters and put them on a TEAM is the day they slowly starting killing themselves.
One of my all-time favorite Stan Lee stories was the one where Spider-Man tries out for the Avengers and fails. To me that perfectly summed up Spidey’s character. He was a lovable loser, a loner, someone who could never fit in with a team, either as Peter Parker or as Spider-Man. I feel like Spidey on the Avengers pisses all over that classic story.
I don’t mind Spidey on the Avengers(at least if he’s only on one team and he doesn’t become a permanent fixture like Thor or Cap used to be). I think Spidey is a loner due to so many personal problems and because he doesn’t always get the respect that someone like Mr. Fantastic or Captain America get. I think there’s a difference between that type of loner and someone like Daredevil who’s a loner because he’s a self destructive misogynistic asshole. Although, from what I’ve seen of the BND stories, Peter seems to be acting that way as well these days.
Well my fellow non meat eater…I agree with you, partially. DD is perfect as a loner (unless you count him leading The Hand) DD is the quintessential loaner, no doubt.
As for Spidey, why he has’nt joined a team years ago is beyond me. Everyone’s like…Spidey’s a loner, Bats (Bruce) is a loner, yet these two guys have “teamed” up with more characters than anyone else. Personally I felt that Spidey should have joined the Defenders back when they were considered a non team.
Dr. Strange….sorcery is known, but is not accepted by the masses
Hulk…a gamma spawned Frankenstein
S. Surfer…A former herald to a planet eater
Namor…Namor
Valkrie…Guilt by association
Spiderman…Thanks to JJJ, his motives are always suspect
So while Spidey arguably may or may not be right for the Avengers, I wound’nt right him off as a team player.
Uggg…that is kinda terrible. The DD “logo” on the costume just sucks. Who the hell designed that thing? Khoi Pham? Damn, if it was black and had a much better design to it I would be fine with it. Looks so damn boring.
i liked the blue and red one with the rat tooth protein and the spider silk and other wacky high tech bio materials they are working on now
not sure where scientists are with there goat spider getting silk from goats milk project. but ive read that a while ago in ny science times
this new one just looks the reverse of his long time red one.. blackish with red letters its ok a nice change for the storyline im sure the red one will be back afters it over
i like costume changes there are one a very few heroes that shouldnt change their costumes but it seems that never goes over well
i couuuld just spam every open thread board lol. but no i wouldnt do that. if you want to thats fine. i feel kind of bad announcing when i got a story up on here thoe.
I like that Aquaman/Flash story. Nice villain choices. Some pretty good moments; the five seconds gag, the dehydration bit was cool. Did you give Aquaman these new powers or is this some incarnation of Aquaman I never read? For example, I never read Peter David’s run in the late 90s or the Sword of Atlantis stuff.
Only read the first part of ‘Dreamer,’ interested to read the other parts later on when I get a chance and see where you take it.
But, ya, I saw this a while ago and laughed my ass off. Mostly because I find happiness is watching ANYONE cry.
There were rumors going around for a while that this was fake but I don’t know. Looked real enough to me. And if this was in fact real then the dude filming this is indeed an asshole. An asshole I would like to have a beer with.
I wasn’t too sure how old this one was, never saw it before.
What was amazing to me was not so much the guy was an asshole or that he was so up front about his evil intentions to his wife..
What got me was how attractive she was for this nerdy little dude. Instead of ragging on his wife, he should be thanking whatever unseen deity that fucked up and let him score a woman way above his pay-grade.
However, the wife seems fairly unstable, no telling what else she loses her marbles over, she’s probably a pain in the ass to live with. So I guess it all evens out in the end =)
I’ve yet to date or even hook up(I’ve always been a relationship guy) with an actual crazy chick. The worst I’ve had are drama queens who lie or fake being emotional for attention.
Yeah, but these days I feel I might have to lower my standards or just start hanging out at bars around last call. Maybe if Deemar is right and you start getting laid on a regular basis, I’ll travel up to Schaumburg for your castoffs. LOL!
Speaking of Star Trek (you shouldn’t encourage me like that), did you ever see the fan-made Star Trek vs Batman video? It’s pretty well done. They managed to retain the 60s campiness of both shows. It’s a three-parter, so watch it if you’re ever utterly bored.
If that’s real, she’s got to be nuts. No one should cry like that about after a fucking movie unless they’re 4 years old or the movie was directed by Rob Zombie.
Considering Carpenter’s original Halloween is one of my favorite horror movies of all time, I hated Zombie’s first movie as well(he writes like he’s a 16 year old boy who just found out about the f-word; Michael Myers didn’t need an origin much less a white trash one; all of his Grade Z celebrity cameos took me out of the movie unlike when Tarantino does that) but the second movie almost seemed like he was just fucking with the audience. A pumpkin head dinner and a dead mom & her white horse? What the fuck?
This guy should count himself as being lucky that she never goes lorena Bobbitt on his ass! Toying with someone’s emotions like that is never a good thing. Hell, I forcing back tears having seen Observe and Report. Of course in that case it was the fact that I plunked down 8 bucks for that steaming pile, and I would never get my mony back. Dammit, the tears are starting to well up just thnking about it.
So Comic Vine just trashed Doomwar in a review. I like Comic Vine for the most part, but their reviews SUCK!!!
True, I’m a little worried after I found out that they are bringing Deadpool into the mix. I really don’t want Doomwar to be just part of Marvel’s “pimp Deadpool in every book we have” marketing scheme, but this review is just on the previous books. How can you hate this book, it’s a really good book all around. What the FUCK is wrong with them.
Yeah they are for sure running it into the ground. I’m on board there with you on the X-Men(though I actually like the way they are portrayed in Doomwar) I’ve never been a big fan of the X-Men.
Are there Black Panther trades of the series that preceded Doomwar?
I’ve never really read Black Panther, but I’m really digging Doomwar so I might pick up one if it’s not a crazy expensive hardcover.
As far as the Panther is concerned, there’s the Reggie Hudlin stuff.I’m not sure if trades of Chris Priest Marvel knights series is still in print, but the earlier issues of that was a really fun read. There’s of course the 70’s Kirby series available, but that might not fit suit everyone’s taste.I REALLY wish marvel would reprint the Don Mcgregor’s Jungle Action series from the 70’s.Exciting and provocative.
At least here in the CCW nation, we get rants. Which is my personal favorite thing about CCW. NO other site gives rants, just praise for the worst writers. Probably cause they bought a bad comic and want others to buy so they don’t feel alone.
I think it’s a useful site (with the wiki aspect), and can be fun in other areas of the site as well. But GOD the reviews are the worst. Everything Millar does especially is like some literary manna from heaven to them.
Man, you guys really hate that site, huh? I have never even seen any of their reviews. How was I so unaware of the existence of what sounds like “the worst comic review site on the interwebs”? I always thought that title belonged to CBR or IGN.
@Stamps yeah i like Comic Vine, but i Fucking hate there reviews man. That lame fuck
G-man does their video comicbook reviews all the time. In the begining of their videos he always mentions that he didn’t like the comicbook but some how he always seems to give it a fucking 4.5 out of 5. It makes no sence to me. Also that girl Babs does reviews with G-Man and they just have no chemistry. Not like Elliott and Jose LOL. NO HOMO. I’m just saying. Those folks over there get paid atleast i think they do, and yet they are so unprofessional. I know jose and elliott have mentioned how lazy they each are but they do a hell of job with the CCW Nation.
The Babs girl is way better than the G-Man guy. He is so annoying, and the ultimate “fanboy” stereotype. Every time I go to watch a review there I’m like “please don’t let this be G-man reviewing” And it fucking always is. Always.
It’s not when he’s reading the title that kills me. It’s when he cuts away to a panel shot and he tries to do the character voices. Atrocious…and I don’t mean the awesome red lantern. 😛
Hahaha so true. As hot as she is, I find her presence on those comicvine reviews quite annoying. The guy she’s with most of the time even seems to be irked by her at times.
For the record, I’ve only seen one of Midtown’s reviews. I just remembered it for the attractive girl. If she was the only one on the show, I might watch it regularly.
Don’t mean to be a dick but I really don’t want this stuff posted on here. Sorry. That is all I am going to say on the matter. This comment is not aimed at you smartass.
So comic vine just put “There’s no such thing as too much Deadpool.” up as the tag-line of their Deadpool Merc with a mouth review…Yes, Comic Vine you can…It’s called Deadpool Team up and Deadpool Corp.
Love the DD 500 pic. First thing I thought of when I saw it was how disappointed I was with Bendis not exploring Murdock as the “Kingpin” and his underusing of Typhoid Mary, whom I believe is one of the best DD villains. Bendis wrote DD beating Kingpin’s ass and declaring himself the new boss only to skip ahead 1 year. Not only does that age the character in an extremely weak way, but it avoids some good stories.
Daredevil SHOULD be a villain. Just like they have heel turns in wrestling, they should occasionally do that in comics. DD has never been a real A-lister (Miller aside) so I see no problem in turning him into a nut job. (I actually liked Emerald Twilight btw) And for the record, I’m still not completely convinced he’s a bad guy under Diggle’s pen. Shadowland could change that though. Can’t wait for that book.
Another person who should be a villain is Black Widow. Talk about not owning up to your name. Look at issue #3 of Black Widow: Deadly Origin. That could be one of the best villain teams Marvel’s ever had.
I wouldn’t want to see DD as an actual villain. I don’t think Matt Murdock could ever be totally evil. I see him as a hero, but a hero on the fringes.
What I always loved about the character is how he’s all about overcoming odds. He’s blind, but when wronged, he still goes out to fight the good fight.
I agree. I like seeing a hero with a darker lifestyle which is DD. He’s like Batman in a way. He tries to stop evil but he does it in a darker way than Spidy or Superman.
DD has always been about Murdock getting dragged through the mud and doing some horrible things in order to do the right thing. His intentions are always in the right place but, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” That pretty much sums up DD. I’m not sure you could effectively make him a full fledged villain because you’re always rooting for him to drag himself up again.
Ok,I just read Secret Avengers #1.I actually thought it was not bad.The characters are introduced fairly smoothly, mission statement explained easily, the plot and mysteries are established. It doesn’t feel like there was alot of filler.Steve Rogers is powerful and confidant and yet not an A-hole.It’s basically close to what I wished Ultimate Avengers was.
i finally found out why tim drake thought bruce wayne was alive the whole time its at the end of red robin 12
if anyone wants me to post a spoiler let me know
Just came across this. I remember watching these as a kid. The lesson here is, you are never safe and you should live in fear of absolutely everything.
Or that employees and management should be aware of safety precautions at the workplace. That or you should work from home. Personally, I prefer to work from home. Screw safety!
Did those air in Canada? Those couldn’t have aired on TV in the US. They look like something out of a Final Destination movie. If I saw those as a kid, I’d probably have had nightmares for a week.
This has to be my all-time favorite PSA (aside from the infamous Pee-Wee “crack” PSA) this one has always stuck with me. Just look at that animation! Goddamn I miss the 80’s.
That PSA saved so many of my appendages so many times growing up I’ve stopped counting. But if I wanted to continue counting I could, thanks to this PSA.
For a website, who claim to be feminists and growing tired of existing women-in-refrigerator,respecting the minority opinions, but: “…go back to hooking” and its retort “hahaha, you’re great Adam,”and “If you hate Doomwar you hate good comics period. It’s as easy as that” comments just make this website seems hypocritical. Besides, I thought Jose and Elliot hate comments like that?
How does my Doomwar comment make me a hypocrite? It is a GOOD comic. It is a great comic and if people don’t like it they don’t like good comics. That’s my opinion. What the fuck does that have to do with being a feminist?
Also, The “You’re great Adam” comment was made by one of our WOMEN commenters. If you don’t know what you are talking about please just don’t.
Any more unfounded accusations you want to throw our way?
So the person your talking about is me..and IM A GIRL.
so your little argument basically making me out to be some knuckle-dragging fan-boy doesn’t really hold any water.
And as a woman I have a little more information on the subject of the treatment of women in comic books and online by fan-boys I can tell you the reason I like being at this forum is the respect I get here. Many people here know that I’m a girl and everybody here has treated me, and other women (fictional or real) with respect. I can’t say that for other sites.
If it was a man, I would have said the same thing. G-man, should go back to hooking for liking Rulk. I saw how he was marveling at Leob’s ass when he was interviewing him – Telling him how genius it was. Leob is a now a medical condition as far as I’m concerned. You know, where your brain slowly starts oozing out your nose. I like the guys at CCW. Jose and Elliot do a great job with reviews. They tell it like it is. That my friend takes guts, which these guys at Newsarama or CBR should grow a pair. Long live the CCW Nation!
But remember when the King was a real dude in the commercials? He looked like that too and that preceded He-Man. I think BK should just bring Herb back.
It was either here or another forum where those “BK Herb” commercials were brought up. Even though it was obviously from when I grew up, other than commercials featuring the McDonaldland gang, this is the only burger commercial I remember from the 80’s…
They don’t make commericals like they used to. I could spend all day watching vintage commercials.
did anyone else read the protector/noh varr back up story in ms marvel 50?
what did you think? it was a huge tease set up kind of thing. i am trying figure out where he is going to show up next. also noh varr seems very different personality wise. not as brash or aggressive. he use to be very “grey area” now very much on the side of angels
I have watched Gundam Wing and I liked that but haven’t seen to many of the other series. Though, one of my favorite anime of all time is Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. I loved that series.
Yeah I liked wing and I am probably gonnacheck out 0080 as soon as I can. Even though I didnt see 0080 yet I see the opening Fight scene which is probably one of my favorite fights in any anime I watched.
yeah I heard 0080 is pretty depressing but I will still check it out. Oh and if you ever get the chance check out Gundam 00 and 08th ms team because those two series of gundam are my personal favorite. I think you can watch the first ten episodes of 00 on youtube.
I actually have the Viz “anime comic” of 08th ms team that they put out like 10 years (or more) ago. It’s a comic where they took the animation stills and put word balloons on them.
I’d like to thank you Jose for catching that Freudian slip on my Spirit review with that miller/millar mix up I went back and changed the millar’s to miller just so no one gets confused.
My favorite comment today from our review of Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #1 over on the youtube boards:
“User: oscaroonie

Is funny when Elliot reads a Morrison comic is his fault for not liking it but when he reads a Bendis book is Bendis who is at fault, then you guys complain for being called haters. also the way you criticize comes outs as angry fanboyz instead of reviewers. I would expected it from Jose(just a fanboy) but not comic writer, Elliot”
I want to piss on Pete’s Punisher comics and eat his heart, I wanna hold a mirror up to Jason’s growing bald spot and stuff his quippy lip with smelly socks.
ive got to go check out their live show one of these weeks ive been saying this for months btw i just never make the time plus i found out alex from cbc goes the same shop as me even though i have never seen him maybe ill run into him one of these days
have you gone to see them CBS?
I have an account but only since I’m unable to fully delete it since it reopens evey time I’m forwarded to the site. I refuse to post any pictures on it(I don’t think I’ve had my picture taken since I was in my 20s) and I unfriended the people on it awhile back. I’m an open book with people and have nothing to hide, but I still don’t like the idea that people can find things out about me when I don’t know them or don’t want to deal with them anymore. Finding pictures of an ex-girlfriend(she was linked to a friend of an ex-friend) was the last straw. Considering I’m not selling anything, am not a teenager, and am not interested in finding out whats going on in the lives of ex-classmates or friends I’ve drifted away from, Facebook is a useless waste of time to me.
I thought DC had given me one too many deaths today. If they had actually killed Krypto like I originally thought, I was about to drop all of their books. I wish they would just have an entire year where no one died.
While it sucked about Thara, I wasn’t surprised. I figured that other than Clark, Supergirl, Zod’s crew, and, thank God, Krypto, most, if not all, of the other Kryptonians were eventually going to be killed or removed from the playing board. I’m actually surprised that Chris wasn’t killed.
Jose, are you & Ellioot going to be reviewing the upcoming “Heroic Age” reboots? I didn’t buy them, but I flipped through today’s Secret Avengers and Thunderbolts. Secret Avengers had me intrigued way more than Bendis’ Avengers book did from last week. Thunderbolts & Man-Thing!!! Leave it to Jeff Parker to do something new & cool with that character.
If you still have writer’s block, either give the books a star rating(out of 4 like most movie critics) or a loved, liked, meh, disliked, or hated rating.
I WILL be writing reviews (plural) tonight. Great comics came out this week that must be talked about. God knows someone has to talk about how awesome Doomwar has been. Since no other site is I feel it is my duty to do so.
I saw this book at Barnes & Noble today and I feel compelled to buy it:
Shatnerquake (Paperback)
Product Description
It’s Shatner VS Shatners!
William Shatner? William Shatner. WILLIAM SHATNER!!! It’s the first ShatnerCon with William Shatner as the guest of honor! But after a failed terrorist attack by Campbellians, a crazy terrorist cult that worships Bruce Campbell, all of the characters ever played by William Shatner are suddenly sucked into our world. Their mission: hunt down and destroy the real William Shatner.
Featuring: Captain Kirk, TJ Hooker, Denny Crane, Rescue 911 Shatner, Singer Shatner, Shakespearean Shatner, Twilight Zone Shatner, Cartoon Kirk, Esperanto Shatner, Priceline Shatner, SNL Shatner, and – of course – William Shatner!
No costumed con-goer will be spared in their wave of destruction, no redshirt will make it out alive, and not even the Klingons will be able to stand up to a deranged Captain Kirk with a lightsaber. But these Shatner-clones are about to learn a hard lesson…that the real William Shatner doesn’t take crap from anybody. Not even himself.
I grew up in the 80’s but I never saw that show. Probably since I usually watched what my parents watched(unless they weren’t watching anything and I got to see wonderful crap like The Dukes Of Hazzard & Knight Rider). Luckily they watched Three’s Company, Cheers, MASH, The Jeffersons, and All In The Family.
Jonathan Winters is a comedic genius who I feel is often overlooked. Everyone seems to bring up Pryor, Carlin, and Cosby but forget Winters. I think his comedy, unlike a lot of what is out there, is impoosible to duplicate(although Robin Williams tried).
I saw people talking about anime manga earlier and the first thing that comes to my mind when talking about that is this, which I simply love:
Well, it the second thing to come to my mind, the first is Dragon Ball which I grew up watching/reading, but we really don’t want to step into my childhood and teenage, it was a weird time.
Live action dragon ball doesnt exist, that is a hoax! It was just a very very bad dream that I had, yes a dream, nothing more, just a bad dream… a dream… yes… dream…
It seems it has become “cool” to hate on Doomwar lately. Mind you I thought the new issue was excellent.
My reasoning behind this is because it makes all the “popular” writer’s comics (Bendis, Loeb, Milar) look like the complete shit that they are. Most sites are run by fanboys who love those three and if something makes them look bad it must be dealt with.
I don’t know about how “cool” it is, but the fact Deadpool is making an appearance in the 4th issue is not something that pleases me. I have thouroly enjoyed this series and would hate for it to be marred with this joke a minute character. Fortunately I enjoy this series more than I dislike this character. I’m hoping Maberry can pull off using this guy and not have him disrupt the flow of an amazing series.
Since we were on the subject of Manga earlier, I find it strange ppl go on about how its so abstract compared to USA comics. Really its the same. They’re both comics. Think about this, some of the best USA comic writers are English. and YET they are writing for American characters… England is still quite different from USA in terms of manners and morality. Do you guys feel so strange when you read an Englishman’s work when he writes for Batman or Spider-man?
So why is there this taboo among the CCW citizens about reading a Japanese writer’s work?
I really don’t get it. In fact, I am ashamed to think of it, cause to be honest, and I know you’ll all disagree but there are some Japanese comic writers who have turned out hit after hit after hit so consistently, that your more likely to make a safe investment with them than CERTAIN USA writers….
But yeah, that’s just me. I’m not “scared” to read books from another country. IDK why so many of you are…
when you talk about american comics you are talking super hero comics and manga is a whole different ball game its a completely different form of comic im not saying is better then the other but its apples and oranges thats like saying you like tv shows so why not watch japanese tv shows they are both tv shows. well not exactly since there is a lot of over lap between american comic fans and anime fans but there are still huge differences in the genres
probably the main reason i dont read much manga is by the time it gets over here its up to volume 900 and very few good jumping on points.
I’d actually say manga has better jumping on points: i mean you can always find volume one for any manga whereas, if someone bought a Detective comics issue, its really likely you won’t know what’s happening unless someone told you its a new arch. seeing that its up in the 800’s might feel intimidating to a new reader.
And from what I’ve read in manga, I don’t see the differences if you compared it to Vertigo or WildStorm. The plots are just as ambiguous. Just as good.
My overall point was how stupid it was to hear others say that if they read a Japanese comic they’ll somehow be related to all the worst parts of Japanese modern day culture. It actually makes me laugh when ________ assumed that by reading a Manga, he’d be connecting to the same culture that has panties in vending machines. By that logic, any Asian or European person would be a criminal related to Gun Control (considering the fact that our stats are in the 1000’s) if they should read a USA comic…
“England is still quite different from USA in terms of manners and morality. Do you guys feel so strange when you read an Englishman’s work when he writes for Batman or Spider-man?”
Yes I do. Alan Moore is one of the few Brits who I feel does a great job(or at least, at one time did) on American superhero comics without making every Yank use British slang or feel like something written just to “take the piss out of” Americans.
I also feel there are a lot less differences between Americans & Brits than there are Americans & Asians.
Why does reading only American comics matter if there are more than enough out there that I want to read. As I said before, I’d be more tempted to try manga on a regular basis if I didn’t already have more American books I want to read than my money & time can handle. I’m not trying to prove my quality as a reader to society in general by reading as many non-English speaking comics as I can.
Well, my initial point wasn’t to convert anyone, I just noticed a lot of people bashing manga and I have the right to defend it. Just as you have the right to defend your reasons for not reading it for whatever you choose to defend. This is an open thread, and I believe I approached the issue pretty maturely. I just believe there’s a “stereotype” manga gets and I wanna do my part and try to change that so that Japanese writers I see get as much respect and support they can. Because I truly love their work. The same way I am with Grant Morrison and Alan Moore but most of the citizens of the CCW NATION are USA comic readers so what’s the point of defending Grant or Alan when they already probably read them?
I honestly wasn’t trying to make it seem like manga was better, I was just trying to give reasons to people who assume Japan is some kind of evil in terms of comics/anime. The same stereotype given to them could be given to USA comics saying they’re all about capes and for children when the times have changed. The times have changed for Japanese comics as well.
“I also feel there are a lot less differences between Americans & Brits than there are Americans & Asians.”
True but not 100% true, considering how incredibly influenced the Japanese are to our culture and life-styles. In face, I’d dare to say that its an even status for both countries to ours.
I never wanted anyone to feel inferior about not buying Asian comics. I am just defending some of the Asian writers that have really proven to me they have an extraordinary story to tell…
It was last week and I didn’t go. Couldn’t find anyone to go with and I don’t do the whole “going to concerts by myself” thing. Overall it is a depressing situation.
You must have some ignorant friends to not want to go with you to a Metric show. I was just listening to that album today thinking that it is probably my current favorite CD and how awesome it would be to hear it performed live. Most depressing indeed.
Well, the entire list is comprised of Millar books. They are all pretty much shit. I don’t know what you were expecting. I saw that article on CBR and didn’t even click on it because I pretty much knew what it was. It’s like asking people “What’s your favorite STD to contract?”
I’ve never heard of it before. I’ll give it a look when I’m done with Sankakucomplex. From first looks though, it doesn’t seem like it’s covering a lot of the mainstream news when one of their features is a review of old Garfield comics.
If that’s the one by that Heidi woman, I used to read it when it was hosted by Comicon.com. I kinda lost track of it over the years and BleedingCool eventually replaced it. Actually, I never would have found you guys if not for a link on BleedingCool. Now you know who to blame.
I actually haven’t read too many Millar stories, But I know Red Son is the only one on there worthy of anything. I know Ultimate was bad, I knew Kick-Ass, Wanted, Chosen were all shit too…
I always hear that his Authority run was good tho… I don’t care too much about Millar’s work tho. I just DESPISE Wanted (its a personal reason)
I saw that article as well and the only thing that should be on the list is Red Son and nothing else. Everything else could of been the worst of Mark Millar for all I care, but I think the worst has yet to come unfortunately.
Can anyone care to explain the end of Return of Bruce Wayne #2?? I just re read it for the 2nd time and what
I got out of it was that the bio organic archivist at the end of time (the vanishing point) that superman, booster, and hal went to see ended up being a future bruce wayne and stole their time sphere?
I still check CBR for news but I never bother with their reviews, columns, or their forums(the mod in the DC section is a douche who’s decided on his own that his area should be PG even though the site’s creator will often swear in his own interviews; the Marvel section is full of Marvel Zombies who will attack at a moment’s notice). I still check out BleedingCool out of habit but it seems like half the threads I skip over(I agree that Rich Johnston seems to show favoritism towards Millar). Other than a comment every once in awhile at BleedingCool, this is the only comic site I post on(I actually only post on 2 blogs/forums every day).
For these people if it ain’t written by Johns or Bendis than it isn’t worth reading. I give this more of a chance than I would anything Johns or Bendis is curtainly writing.
Anyway, if I wrote a book it would be about everything I hate about comics. I’m not sure what the title should be. I’m thinking something simple maybe one word. What do think of Bendis: How Not to Write a Mainstream Comic.
To me you have Bendis driving the Marvel U into the ground and on the other side you have Johns making fixes to the DCU were there wasn’t anything broken to begin with at least not that I can tell from.
Well, it did have 28 pages of art so that’s a good thing for $3.99. BUT it was all one of the best Avengers books I have read in a long time. So I am going to say yes, the first issue was worth it. I’ll hopefully have a review typed up by tomorrow for it.
I thought the book was crazy good. Not just another putting the band together, they get right to a awesome story in the first issue. Brubaker is back to amazing stories unlike reborn.
no shit man, I need to say fuck you the next time my lame south dakota friends say that i need to hang out with them instead of my much cooler and smarter internet friends.
agreed but It was cool to talk to my buddy that I went to high school with. that is now in a band that’s not doing to bad, here is one of there video’s, not my thing but cool to talk to him about touring and shit.
To be honest, I really don’t care for a lot of the new anime coming out unless it is done by Gainex. I just can’t get into most of it. Is there anything new that I should be watching?
The anime industry as of late has been really disappointing. Nothing really creative and nothing really new coming out. I don’t even have any interest in that Evangelion 2.0 bullshit. The original series was fine. I wish that they would stop messing with it.
I really am a big fan of the 80’s and 90’s anime. So much good stuff. What the hell happened?
Seriously, I’ll be skipping Evangalion 2.0 too. Whats with Full Metal Alchemist 2 which is a complete rehash of the first show.
However Eden of the East and Soul Eater were pretty desent. I liked how Skullman was tied into Cyborg 009.
Are you talking about FMA: Brotherhood? Ya, it’s pretty much a rehash but it is supposed to follow the manga a lot more closely than he original series did. Never saw Eden of the East but I did see Soul Eater. It was decent, ya.
Oh, wow. I’ll only be happy to hear that if you like the series. 🙂
The Gunsmith Cats “Revised Editions” are sort of like omnibus editions of the original volumes. It’s all good. It is the original series. Gunsmith Cats: Burst in the second series or “sequel” if you will. I have only read the first volume to Burst so I do not know what the rest of the series is like.
Also, You’ are very welcome for the help. Anytime you need info just ask. I am more than happy to help out.
Good grief. You know, I know a lot of people may think I am nuts but when customers ask me for my opinion on whether or not they should buy a monthly or a collection I am always honest with them. Fuck the money. Building trust with them is more important. If I have a lot of people asking me my opinion on Cry for Justice I don’t think I will be selling to many of the hardcovers.
It has always been my experience that trust between retailer and fan is PARAMOUNT.
As you know, there is PLENTY of GREAT stuff you can really promote and people WILL listen to you because they know you have been honest with them in the past.
I used to know this comic retailer who thought everything was “HOT”… Everything was “GREAT”.
I also used to think that FAT CHEFS were better than SKINNY CHEFS… Until I got older and realized that a FAT CHEF is just a FAT FUCK who’ll eat ANYTHING and a SKINNY CHEF knows when to wait and open his mouth for the GOOD STUFF.
As YOU have no doubt decided– YOUR integrity is worth quite a but more than a $3.99, 22 page Piece of Shit.
Whoa. That Lee douche won? He is from where I live. Mount Prospect, IL. Fuck, now I have to deal with more bullshit around here about him than normal. God fucking damn it. Fucking American Idol..
Is anyone here reading the Second Coming crossover?? I just read the latest issue of X-Force, which was part 9 of the 14 part crossover, and it fucking ruled. I’ve been enjoying the crossover to a certain extent, but this issue blew me away, and got me very excited about the rest of the story. The art on the book by Choi was actually perfect for this chapter in the story. Too bad Dodson’s art on Uncanny totally throws me out of the story. It’s a little too cartoony for such a dramatic/violent story.
I agree…this is the crossover I think more people should be talking about because it echoes back to the glory days of X-Executioner’s Song which was one of my favorites growing up. X-Force also happens to be my favorite X-book at the moment.
X-force was unreadable when Crain was doing art, but since the S.C. crossover it is the best looking book in the whole series. Mike Choi is killing the art duties.
It is so weird…I don’t know if it’s the color pallete or what but everything is just so dark. And then Choi’s arc comes up and it’s beautiful. For whatever reason it doesn’t seem like Choi can do a monthly but the work he puts out is worth it.
Massive team ups, intrigue, double crosses, and of course who could forget the epic battle between Stryfe and Apocalypse…it set the stage for so many future X-storylines!
Does anyone else find themselves having this problem?
Lately I’ve noticed that I relate far more to the members of CCW than I do my own friends. For example, I’ll crack a joke involving some obscure reference and get some strange looks and not a whole lot else. and I think to myself, “Jose would have got that”, or “Deemar would have found that funny”. Anyone else notice this phenomenon taking place in their own lives?
I actually do that myself. I kind of have two groups of friends I hang out with. One that is into comics and pop culture and one that is so not. I do know what you mean.
None of my friends read comics 😦
Well, that’s not entirely true, one of my friends reads Walking Dead in trade, but as soon as i start going on about “omega sanctions” and “anti-monitor’s” they just seem to tune out. And most of the people who frequent my LCS are rampant fucking fanbois.
I am with you Pobra, when I try to talk to someone I don’t know at my local comic book shop they always seem to love Old Man Logan and Deadpool corps. I have like 2 non-internet friends that I can have a intelligent conversation with about pop culture or comics.
Actor Paterson Joseph was rumored for a while last year to be the new Doctor Who when David Tennant left. Obviously he didn’t become the new Doctor but there was talk of it being a serious possibility.
Though it is interesting to see Dev Patel cast as Zuko. I have never seen an Indian actor cast in an American action oriented role. We are usually cast as convenient store owners or computer nerds. I don’t know if you’ve seen the animated show. Zuko is supposed to be a bad-ass.
I was about to make the same point about Prince Of Persia. I would prefer to see a white Peter Parker because that’s how the character was established, and as a comic book fan, I do appreciate when the movies don’t change things too much. But there’s no excuse for the “white washing” of other movies where non-white characters are needed, as you so adeptly pointed out. Why has every cinematic or artistic portrayal of Jesus Christ been of a very American looking white male? Dude’s from the Middle East.
I agree cball. I want Peter Parker white but that doesn’t mean Prince Of Persia or Jesus should be white as well. Although, the Evangelicals probably would have a fit if Jesus was potrayed in a movie as a Middle Easterner. As accurate as Mel Gibson attempted to make the language in Passion Of The Christ, he still cast a pale white guy as Jesus.
The ‘white washing’ of Jesus was done by the Catholic Church many, many moons ago for very much the same reasons the comic industry made most of their characters white: so white folks would fund them ‘relatable.’
BTW, Marvel Comics does have a Spiderman comic in India where Peter Parker is Indian. Mind you, he’s a somewhat different character than the US version. (Not a photographer for the Daily Bugle, for one.) But still, he’s Indian so that Indian kids will read the book.
And it sells like GANGBUSTERS.
But anyway, I have yet to see Jesus portrayed as a man of color…
You would think JoeyQ would be behind more Latino characters in the Marvel U. I mean didn’t he create some sort of team book with a bunch of Latino character while he was on Daredevils. Also, why is they only Black Panther cartoon airing in Australia?
I think you might be refering to the team from Daredevil:Father.I believe that story was poorly received by the fans and Joe Q is all about the moolah, hence those characters haven’t been back.
I’ve only seen the Panther clips on You Tube, but judging from the comments, most ppl seem to not like it.Marvel probably felt it wasn’t worth the effort to distribute it wider.
I think just because Spiderman is such an iconic character, most ppl wouldn’t accept it as legit. They’ll say “oh,this is some PC alternative version” or “this is peter parker for the black people”.
There were rumors that Will Smith was going to play James Bond and some reactions were, “but of course” and others were “that’s not Bond!” I’m sure we all recall the recent Smith as Cap America controversy…
Vaguely related, does anyone remember a Spidey story from a few years ago where a young black child was missing his father? Spidey was his favorite hero and because Spidey wears a full face mask, the boy imagined Spiderman was really black? Does anyone know what I’m talking about?
I remember Todd Mcfarlane talking about he wanted to do a side story where a criminal called Spider-Man the n word because of the full face mask, but that never happened because he left the company.
If Spider-Man was a character who went through transformations(Doctor Who, Martian Manhunter) or was just a title that multiple characters went by(Blue Beetle, Green Lantern), then I would have no problem with it. Unfortunately, Peter Parker is a white guy. I hope he’s played by an actor I like better than Tobey Maguire but I want him white. I’d be just as frustrated if they made a movie where Luke Cage was white or Wonder Woman was Scottish. I remember some people crying racism when others were unhappy that Ralph Kramden was played by Cedric The Entertainer. Can you imagine the outrage if we got a Jeffersons movie where George & Weezy were play by Steve Carell & Margaret Cho?
No offense Jose, but I always thought you were the half of the CCW team that I’d occasionally have to tiptoe around. I never would have expected Elliott would be the one I pissed off. Although, me saying that probably just pissed you off as well. I can’t win.
I’ll drop it with this post since I don’t want you to verbally attack me, but I feel that’s a huge double standard. You can never change a minority character from the race they’ve always been but, since there’s too much white entertainment out there, white people better keep their mouths shut if a white character has his race changed? I’m all for equality but that’s BS in my book. People should be treated as equals and thus, represented equally in entertainment, but I hate that my opinion shouldn’t count because I’m a straight white male(blame my parents) who has had nothing to do with persecuting any group(race, religion, or sexuality).
I don’t thing Peter Parker’s ethnic background is integral to what makes the character likable and special. I agree that some characters ethic backgrounds should not be changed because their ethnic background is a key element that makes the character tic. Did you have a problem with Nick Fury being African American in the Ultimates?
I didn’t have a problem with a black Nick Fury in the Ultimate Universe. I would have a problem if artists just started drawing him black in the original Marvel Universe. For me, it’s not about race but about changing things for no real reason(ie. Abomination’s design in the last Hulk movie and Bullseye in Daredevil).
For the record, even though I was originally against changing Kingpin & Nick Fury(I know he’s black in the Ultimates, but, since I’m not a fan of that universe, I want the movies to use the original universe for their template) for the Daredevil & Iron Man movies, they both worked out well. I can’t think of any white guy who would have made a better Kingpin and Sam Jackson stole all of his scenes in Iron Man 2.
That’s the thing these characters have been around for so long the character’s will always have to change as our culture changes. It’s one of the many reasons why they get retconed. Need I remind anyone here how Blade was originally represented, with that horrible dashiki?
Speaking of Blade he Caucasian in an episode of the animated Spider-Man show from back in the day. Just thought that was interesting.
Well as a matter of the artistic I don’t see a problem with a person of color being Webhead, but as a practical matter I don’t see it happening. A person of color playing Spidey would pretty much shut down the franchise. Not that I don’t think an actor of color would do a bad job. The target audience just isn’t ready for Spiey, Bats or 007 to be sportin’ a fro.
I remember wanting Freddie Prinze Jr to play Spidey once upon a time. I felt that the then youthful Prinze had the classic Ditko / Spiderman look. Put a pair of glasses on him and he was “Peter”. Of course I believe hollywood would play his ethnicity down
At the end of the day cash is king and if H’wood thought they could bank on Black, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, Indian etc. actors to keep the cheddah flowing, it would have happened already.
Plus you know some yokel is gonna say; “hey! fine, why don’t we just get Clooney to play the Black Panther? 🙂
J.
The Professional
As much as I hated “Kick-Ass”, I really don’t think they were trying to sexualize Hit Girl(at least in the comic; the movie had her dress up like a “school girl” stripper). “Leon” on the other hand, creeps me out. As attractive as I find Portman, I don’t need to see her in a see through wife beater when she a little kid.
Cool, a new picture.
that pic is cool but it reminds me when I paid 4.99 for that book.
This pic reminds me when I laughed at everyone who payed $4.99 for this book.
J.
Natalie Portman my future ex wife after the first one
Are you sure, D? I only wish I could have pasted the uncensored version
I love her.
Can’t embed here but worth a link.
J.
Looking at that pic makes me wanna see DD in a team book
Ugh, not me. Couldn’t disagree more. DD is a loner. I never want to see him working on a team unless it’s a temporary thing.
Ditto Spider-Man. He shouldn’t be on the Avengers. Fuck Bendis to hell. Spidey had Marvel Team-Up. That was good enough.
Bendis
I agree 100% with you ballsack. The day Marvel let Bendis take a bunch of LONER characters and put them on a TEAM is the day they slowly starting killing themselves.
J.
Well, Spidey as an Avenger likes to tell women to “Shut the fuck up.” Isn’t that so cool? He’s so bad ass when he’s an Avenger. Christ…
J.
I’ve come too believe all Bendis dialogue is him transcribing conversations with his wife
Agree
I’ve always compared DD & Spidey to Bugs and Daffy
Guess who’s who?
For me I’m tired of doom and gloom Matt Murdock
Let’s see how it goes in a real team book
DD WAS in a team book and it was called the New Avengers. We all know how awesome that turned out.
J.
What do you think DD’s new costume?
What new costume? Did I miss something?
J.
i do wish DD would wear is brown and yellow costume.
It’s basically the same costume, but they made it grey and changed around the font of the “DD.”
A couple different looks:
http://www.thirdraildesignlab.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&p=141881
http://blog.newsok.com/nerdage/2010/05/14/daredevils-new-costume-kingpin-showcased-in-8th-shadowland-promo/
Uggg…that is kinda terrible. The DD “logo” on the costume just sucks. Who the hell designed that thing? Khoi Pham? Damn, if it was black and had a much better design to it I would be fine with it. Looks so damn boring.
J.
Why does a blind guy change his costume so much?
Haha. That cracked me up.
Could be worse he could be wearing a costume made of courdoroy
That should be the quote of the week.
He doesn’t intentionally change it. He just puts the wrong one on.
He’s Blind! And having a Blind girlfriend doesn’t save his fashion sense either. 😉
Fashion Sense: The one sense Matt Murdock didn’t get souped up.
Mike, Have you ever considered he might have it on INSIDE OUT?
But then wouldn’t the tag be showing?
J.
There is no tag. He wears special “blind people” clothes that have the size in braille.
Oh, I was unaware of that. My bad.
J.
I wish they had kept his 1st grey costume.
i liked the blue and red one with the rat tooth protein and the spider silk and other wacky high tech bio materials they are working on now
not sure where scientists are with there goat spider getting silk from goats milk project. but ive read that a while ago in ny science times
this new one just looks the reverse of his long time red one.. blackish with red letters its ok a nice change for the storyline im sure the red one will be back afters it over
i like costume changes there are one a very few heroes that shouldnt change their costumes but it seems that never goes over well
That don’t count its Bendis
http://generaldark.wordpress.com/
parts 2 & 3 are now up 🙂
So I guess I should put a link up on our blog homepage, huh?
J.
i couuuld just spam every open thread board lol. but no i wouldnt do that. if you want to thats fine. i feel kind of bad announcing when i got a story up on here thoe.
I put a link up. You can still post announcements here when you have something new. I don’t mind.
J.
Yeah link it Gendy
links are above Deemy 😛 ^^^^^^
General,
I like that Aquaman/Flash story.
Only read the first part of ‘Dreamer,’ interested to read the other parts later on when I get a chance and see where you take it.
well im not sure if he has the power to do that stuff. i just tried to give him new ways to manipulate H2O and tried to make him more of a psychic.
I don’t know what to think about this, on one hand it’s horrible the guy did this, on the other hand I sort of felt the same way about the movie =)
This is OLD!!!!
J.
Absolutely looked real to me… and hilarious.
That’s probably why a little troll like that got such an attractive girl; she’s fucking nuts.
But that’s what makes them so attractive.
J.
I’ve yet to date or even hook up(I’ve always been a relationship guy) with an actual crazy chick. The worst I’ve had are drama queens who lie or fake being emotional for attention.
Consider yourself a very lucky individual then smartass. Very lucky indeed.
J.
Yeah, but these days I feel I might have to lower my standards or just start hanging out at bars around last call. Maybe if Deemar is right and you start getting laid on a regular basis, I’ll travel up to Schaumburg for your castoffs. LOL!
I remember this Douche bag. This guys has a website asking people to suggest which movies his wife should watch, so he can film her crying about it.
i saw this a couple months ago it was so wacky i couldn’t stop laughing
I’m not buying this for one second. To quote Senator Vreenak:
And yet again you successfully work Star Trek into an Open Thread.
J.
Speaking of Star Trek (you shouldn’t encourage me like that), did you ever see the fan-made Star Trek vs Batman video? It’s pretty well done. They managed to retain the 60s campiness of both shows. It’s a three-parter, so watch it if you’re ever utterly bored.
No, I haven’t. Would you like to post it here so we can all see it?
J.
I posted the embedding link from Google, but it didn’t show up? Don’t watch it on Youtube cuz it cuts the ending off each video.
Here’s the URL.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6367947613083418177#
Cool. I’ll watch this in a bit. I am finishing up Secret Avengers right now.
J.
Done and done
If that’s real, she’s got to be nuts. No one should cry like that about after a fucking movie unless they’re 4 years old or the movie was directed by Rob Zombie.
lol omg i could have cried during halloween 2 the remake, i couldnt even finish that piece of shit
Chris Bachalo down with the Wu!
OMFG this is like Peanut-butter & Chocolate!
Chris design the promo material and cover art for the Wu-Tang Clan how fuck cool is that?
Wu!
New Meth album coming soon too.
Can’t sleep and nobody here
You and me both.
LMAO
love that guy he is missed, Will Ferrell “retired” his Harry Caray sucks
His Caray sucks or the fact he retired it? I always liked Ferrell’s Harry Caray.
I like it just wish he’d keep doing it
for my entertainment
You can always settle for bat fight:
BAT FIGHT with Will Ferrell from Will Ferrell
Tried to embed ‘bat fight’ from funnyordie but didn’t work. I was saying you can always settle for that:
So Comic Vine just trashed Doomwar in a review. I like Comic Vine for the most part, but their reviews SUCK!!!
True, I’m a little worried after I found out that they are bringing Deadpool into the mix. I really don’t want Doomwar to be just part of Marvel’s “pimp Deadpool in every book we have” marketing scheme, but this review is just on the previous books. How can you hate this book, it’s a really good book all around. What the FUCK is wrong with them.
Here’s the review:
http://www.comicvine.com/news/brutally-honest-whats-wrong-with-doomwar/141228/
the guy that runs my LCS was telling me deadpool sales have been dropping across the board looks like marvel is running that franchise into the ground
i had been reading black panther right up to doomwar but i didnt pick up doomwar because i cant stand the xmen different strokes for different folks
There’s of course the 70’s Kirby series available, but that might not fit suit everyone’s taste.I REALLY wish marvel would reprint the Don Mcgregor’s Jungle Action series from the 70’s.Exciting and provocative.
hey thanks for the info Edward
ComicVine is the worst Comic Site I ever visited, bro.
Its just a bunch of geeks in their 20’s going on and off about how much Millar and Johns makes them smile.
At least here in the CCW nation, we get rants. Which is my personal favorite thing about CCW. NO other site gives rants, just praise for the worst writers. Probably cause they bought a bad comic and want others to buy so they don’t feel alone.
At least CCW takes a stand against that shit.
I think it’s a useful site (with the wiki aspect), and can be fun in other areas of the site as well. But GOD the reviews are the worst. Everything Millar does especially is like some literary manna from heaven to them.
Holy shit!
I hate ComicVine with a passion!
They make me wanna throw my laptop at a random victim
Man, you guys really hate that site, huh? I have never even seen any of their reviews. How was I so unaware of the existence of what sounds like “the worst comic review site on the interwebs”? I always thought that title belonged to CBR or IGN.
J.
No J No!
Comic vine is the steaming heaping pile of comic sites.
These people judge/rate a comic by the damn covers!
They actually, genuinely like LOEB, Loeb?!
It’s definately the Bizarro CCW
OMG you are so right. It is the Bizzaro CCW, or better yet the Star Trek Mirror Universe CCW.
Always.
I love how “G-Man” does his reviews in his parent’s basement and tries to deepen his voice when reading the title of each comic.
I HATE how he does that, it is just so annoying. At least he reviews books with a cute girl 🙂
It’s not when he’s reading the title that kills me. It’s when he cuts away to a panel shot and he tries to do the character voices. Atrocious…and I don’t mean the awesome red lantern. 😛
BatgirlBabs own channel is in and of itself pretty cool.
Nah Babs is pretty damn unbearable herself
I have no idea who you guys are talking about.
J.
She’s one of the reviewers for Comic Vine, cute girl just annoying and knows very little about comics
Hahaha so true. As hot as she is, I find her presence on those comicvine reviews quite annoying. The guy she’s with most of the time even seems to be irked by her at times.
I have yet to watch any comic vine reviews. Am I missing out? A lot of people are talking about it on this thread.
J.
You are not missing out, I watched two that were both garbage, and I won’t watch anymore.
Bit too much makeup, but still, hot.
Yes Babs
The Megan Fox of comics, oh how I hate you yet lust after you!
Damn mine man bits!
Man, I must be way too picky! I don’t see it.
Now this girl on the other hand…
…if she went to my lcs, I’d follow her all over the store.
Man, what the fuck are you guys posting on here?
J.
J.
So comic vine just put “There’s no such thing as too much Deadpool.” up as the tag-line of their Deadpool Merc with a mouth review…Yes, Comic Vine you can…It’s called Deadpool Team up and Deadpool Corp.
And the Deadpool monthly. And Deadpool #1000. And Lady Deadpool One-Shot.
J.
Oh we forgot the prelude to the Deadpool Corp or whatever the hell that was, god forbid we leave out that little gem.
(I get the regular title and Merc with a mouth, that’s it with me and Deadpool.)
i dropped the main title and just go with merc with a mouth now
I just get the main title myself. Though Deadpool was kinda awesome in Doomwar this week. I have faith in Maberry and he did not let me down.
J.
I was a little nervous about Deadpool showing up in Doomwars, but I forgot that DP can be a badass without too much clowning around if need be.
That’s exactly what I was thinking when I read Doomwar. In the right writer’s hands DP can be awesome.
J.
This is coming from a person who though Siege was awesome. Seriously, Babs go back to hooking. Doom War is an awesome book.
hahahaha You’re great Adam!
If you hate Doomwar you hate good comics period. It’s as easy as that.
J.
Comicvine what a joke.
http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2010/05/the-greatest-news-lede-that-will-ever-be
wacky captain america news plus some interesting bits on the side bar especially about joss whendon doing a polishing of the cap script
SHADOW-LAND!
Can’t wait 🙂
I’m not sure you could effectively make him a full fledged villain because you’re always rooting for him to drag himself up again.
black widow and hawkeye started out as iron man villians
Ok,I just read Secret Avengers #1.I actually thought it was not bad.The characters are introduced fairly smoothly, mission statement explained easily, the plot and mysteries are established. It doesn’t feel like there was alot of filler.Steve Rogers is powerful and confidant and yet not an A-hole.It’s basically close to what I wished Ultimate Avengers was.
agreed and plus i always love seeing eric o’grady.
i finally found out why tim drake thought bruce wayne was alive the whole time its at the end of red robin 12
if anyone wants me to post a spoiler let me know
Just came across this. I remember watching these as a kid. The lesson here is, you are never safe and you should live in fear of absolutely everything.
Or that employees and management should be aware of safety precautions at the workplace. That or you should work from home. Personally, I prefer to work from home. Screw safety!
Or, stay away from people who have recently been maimed beyond recognition, they can be rather preachy.
Hah!
This freaks me out, I’m gonna have nightmares
i saw this so much growing up, that dude always freaked me out. SO MUCH. still does.
Fair dinkum.
J.
J.
Now it’s a boxxy on all our houses.
Can I get a scoring from the judges on this pun?
J.
Are we judging my pun? Cause I vote YES! Or do I have to recuse myself? In which case, I vote YES!
Hmmmm….this pun is….acceptable!!!
J.
Or maybe not. Tough crowd.
J.
I was saying Boo-urns!
Oh…well…carry on then.
J.
Just A Friendly retort
that name fits
like a hand up your ass, buddy E & J are good people you talk shit to them you talk shit to all of us in the CCW crew.
Get real, Making comment that was obviously a joke about a mediocre book is a crime now, get real or please stop commenting.
tick tok on the clock …something about a dj stop oh oh woah woah oh oh woah woah…..
I just had a random thought as I was walking home and I’m surprised this never came to me sooner: the Burger King dude totally looks like King Randor.
Wow…that kinda just blew my mind.
But remember when the King was a real dude in the commercials? He looked like that too and that preceded He-Man. I think BK should just bring Herb back.
J.
Haha, wow. I totally forgot about Herb.
I like how Gumby pops in at the end of the commercial. 🙂
When this blog is shut down tomorrow I’ll know who to thank.
J.
You are now officially a hero.
😦
Could I be your antihero if the need ever arises?
J.
You can swim like dolphins can swim, sir.
Ummm….thanks?
J.
Christ…I am so ashamed right now. Please just let me be alone for a bit. I don’t want you to see me crying.
J.
My working assumption is that nothing is too obscure for J. It’s what makes you… a hero.
J.
Things like this make me wish the internet didn’t exist(and that people had to apply for a license in order to procreate).
Sorry.
J.
J.
Wow, that was blast from the past.. cool one J!
Holy shit IM. I am impressed.
J.
funny last week we were talking about this in my lcs
Yeah, this has been discussed by MOTU fans for awhile now.
did anyone else read the protector/noh varr back up story in ms marvel 50?
what did you think? it was a huge tease set up kind of thing. i am trying figure out where he is going to show up next. also noh varr seems very different personality wise. not as brash or aggressive. he use to be very “grey area” now very much on the side of angels
So have the comicvine wars officially begun? Don’t they love their children too?
i think this means a new comic idea for Deemar
Was their an official declaration of war made? Did I miss something?
J.
I believe there was. Grab your cape.
What? When? Where?
Should I evacuate to an undisclosed location?
J.
Well, I guess you can look forward to my next post on this here blog in 100 years. See ya all then.
J.
We don’t have 100 years. The world ends in 2012.
Ah, shit…you’re right. Oh well, let the party continue then.
J.
That is such a great film. RIP, Robin Harris.
War!?
Comic Vine WAR!!!!!!!!!
I’m gonna say…AWW YEAH!
Jose have you ever watched gundam and if so what are you thoughts on 00 and other gundams?
I have watched Gundam Wing and I liked that but haven’t seen to many of the other series. Though, one of my favorite anime of all time is Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. I loved that series.
J.
Yeah I liked wing and I am probably gonnacheck out 0080 as soon as I can. Even though I didnt see 0080 yet I see the opening Fight scene which is probably one of my favorite fights in any anime I watched.
War in the Pocket is probably one of the most depressing anime I have ever seen. Just giving you fair warning.
J.
yeah I heard 0080 is pretty depressing but I will still check it out.
J.
No new Doctor Who episode on BBCA this Saturday. Bah!!!!Humbug!!!!!!
I’d like to thank you Jose for catching that Freudian slip on my Spirit review with that miller/millar mix up I went back and changed the millar’s to miller just so no one gets confused.
I caught that too, but I thought you did it on purpose.
No I did not do it on purpose, but Miller and Millar are interchangeable in regards to bad writing.
J.
😦
That was you, wasn’t it?
J.
p.s.
Only I may hand out the Insult Master award.
I believe oscaroonie is asshole for Marvel Zombie.
I believe you are right.
J.
J.
If you wanna live in Arizona your gonna need a Muul-Tee Pass.
I love how she’s supposed to be “the perfect woman” in that movie but her roots don’t match her hair color. Stupid French director.
i can never turn that movie off when i hear her talking that gobbly gook
I can easily turn it off when Chris Tucker does his incredibly annoying Prince impersonation. Ruined the entire movie for me.
I am about as good as George when it comes to insults!
Nice IM.
J.
That big brain of yours has little time for humor
😉
Cold as Ice…
Well Jose you know what this means, more people are paying attention and we are now getting an influx of trolly polly haters
The bad thing with that post is it’s so illiterate, it’s hard to tell if you should be offended or not.
Interesting you say that D. We have had 5 new people post on the blog just today and I have had 7 new friend requests on facebook as of yesterday.
J.
As long as there’s no war between you and the Comic Book Club, my new best friends. They had Paul Levitz at yesterday’s live show. That was cool.
Comic Book Club War!!!
WAAAAHHH-RAAAHH!!!
Actually, CBC subscribed to our videos and they are very stingy with their subscriptions so they are cool in my book…for now.
J.
Aw man, no comic book club war?
*kicks dirt and walks away*
Yeah I had my Lord Humongous quotes at the ready
😦
I want to piss on Pete’s Punisher comics and eat his heart, I wanna hold a mirror up to Jason’s growing bald spot and stuff his quippy lip with smelly socks.

J.
Maybe a few of them will even be women.
That would be nice ballsack.
J.
Hah!
Bally
That had me laughing out loud. Knock it off!
I’m gonna make a prediction for 2011-2012.
CCWtv will grow in viewers, fans, hell contributors, but also haters.
Your feminist stance will whet the panties of fangirls far and wide!

J.
j impregnates felecia day? that would set off a war between the comic culture warriors isnt felecia E’s girl?
They can fight to the death for her.
Then I’ll slide in and take her for myself
Am I the only one here not into Facebook?
Yes. Conform.
I’m with you smartass, I fucking hate facebook. I could care less about what a bunch of assholes I went to high school with did over the weekend. Bah!
I mostly use face book to keep up to date on news from bands that I like. And to meet people from here. That’s about it.
J.
I use Facebook to spam Jose with useless links =)
=D
Ya, but I secretly love it. When you going to spam me with some capsule reviews?
J.
Nope.
This is officially the second biggest day this blog has had “hit” wise. Danke.
J.
awsome movie.
It is. I saw this a while ago. You are the only other person who I know that has seen this GD. Very cool.
J.
This movie is my dream life hot chicks paying me for “service”
Reading this from the top all the way down here was quite an experience…
That’s usually how these open threads go.
J.
“He’s no doctor! He’s a fruitcake!”
Sorry! As stupid as it may be, Three’s Company still cracks me up. I don’t know where an insomniac like me would be without TVLand.
*SPOILER* War Of The Superman #4 *SPOILER*
I thought DC had given me one too many deaths today. If they had actually killed Krypto like I originally thought, I was about to drop all of their books. I wish they would just have an entire year where no one died.
That book was horrible. **Spoilers**
I love how Lane can blow his head off right in front of Supergirl and she does nothing.
Plus, Thara dies but Chris lives? That right there is ANOTHER female superhero dead! Shame on DC.
I did too. Sadly, I liked the two of them. They would make for a cool action/romance book (if given the right writer).
Kinda awesome.
J.
Excellent.
I haven’t read T-Bolts yet but did read Secret Avengers. There is a good chance they we will be reviewed on our next vids or right here on the blog.
J.
J.
That sad thing is I was probably more excited by a couple of books from Marvel than any of the books I actually bought.
Nice.
Whoops! I meant Elliott and not “Ellioot”. I was just doing my E.T. impersonation.
It’s Shatnertastic!
Denny Crane is the only one I’d be interested in(although I guess Kirk and Twilight Zone Shatner are OK).
come on no one could jump on the hood of a car like TJ
I grew up in the 80’s but I never saw that show. Probably since I usually watched what my parents watched(unless they weren’t watching anything and I got to see wonderful crap like The Dukes Of Hazzard & Knight Rider). Luckily they watched Three’s Company, Cheers, MASH, The Jeffersons, and All In The Family.
Michael Savage is like genital warts in human form.
I don’t listen to the guy or agree with him, but I just saw this clip and thought the ridiculously stupid caller was funny.
http://www.helikitty.com/hac/
Cute.
Here we go DC going to $3.99 starting August. WTF, digital comics can’t arrive fast enough.
What did everyone think of Return of Bruce Wayne #2?? This issue was definitely more out there/Grant Morrison esque than his recent stuff.
It was almost a bit TOO out there for me.
J.
i loved the issue, i liked the art it really suited the story and i love how everything is tying in with B&R
I really liked it. The art was great and I love Morrison’s whacked-out, pseudo-science, which was greatly lacking in the first issue.
If you guys haven’t yet do yourselves a favor and pick up this week’s Thunderbolts. Damn, that was a good issue.
J.
I have to agree, it had a very ‘The Dirty Dozen’ feel to it.. with Crossbones playing the part of Maggot =)
just some jonathan winters weirdness because i love him
Jonathan Winters is a comedic genius who I feel is often overlooked. Everyone seems to bring up Pryor, Carlin, and Cosby but forget Winters. I think his comedy, unlike a lot of what is out there, is impoosible to duplicate(although Robin Williams tried).
“you never landed”
“hey look over there gulp”
glad im not alone in my jonathan appreciation
I saw people talking about anime manga earlier and the first thing that comes to my mind when talking about that is this, which I simply love:
Well, it the second thing to come to my mind, the first is Dragon Ball which I grew up watching/reading, but we really don’t want to step into my childhood and teenage, it was a weird time.
you know the live action dragon ball is getting a sequel
Fuck…this day just keeps getting better and better.
J.
Didn’t the first one bomb?
Whom ever produced the heaping pile has a direct lan line to Satan for Dragon Ball to get a sequel
Live action dragon ball doesnt exist, that is a hoax! It was just a very very bad dream that I had, yes a dream, nothing more, just a bad dream… a dream… yes… dream…
Should I watch the live action version for a good laugh? I always disregarded it. How could they even come close to doing that hair?
Have you seen this version? I have and it was not a good experience.
J.
That one I always heard about, for some reason I wanted to check it out but didn’t find. I am beginning to think I was lucky in my failed search.
http://comicon.com/pulse/index.php/2010/05/25/captain-america-arrested-with-burrito-in-pants/
And before you ask, Jose, this wasn’t me.
truth is always stranger than fiction
not that i think there is anything rong with these folks
OMFG IGN gave the latest issue of doomwar a 5.0 (meh) i can barely stay in my seat right now i want to hit something!!!
J.
I don’t know about how “cool” it is, but the fact Deadpool is making an appearance in the 4th issue is not something that pleases me. I have thouroly enjoyed this series and would hate for it to be marred with this joke a minute character. Fortunately I enjoy this series more than I dislike this character. I’m hoping Maberry can pull off using this guy and not have him disrupt the flow of an amazing series.
idk why but this seems like a darker deadpool…just me tho
J.
Hey Jose, when’s that Metric show you were going to see?
It was last week and I didn’t go. Couldn’t find anyone to go with and I don’t do the whole “going to concerts by myself” thing. Overall it is a depressing situation.
J.
You must have some ignorant friends to not want to go with you to a Metric show. I was just listening to that album today thinking that it is probably my current favorite CD and how awesome it would be to hear it performed live. Most depressing indeed.
You have no idea Pobra. No idea.
J.
Is this the band you guys are talking about?
Yes. Yes it is.
J.
Not bad
I’ve never heard of the band but that was pretty damn good!
Their whole last alum is pretty damn good as well.
J.
cheer up Jose.
http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2010/05/26/the-greatest-mark-millar-stories-ever-told/
I totally agree with the choice for number one, but really? Wanted? REALLY? THAT PIECE OF SHIT>?>>?????
Well, the entire list is comprised of Millar books. They are all pretty much shit. I don’t know what you were expecting. I saw that article on CBR and didn’t even click on it because I pretty much knew what it was. It’s like asking people “What’s your favorite STD to contract?”
J.
Gonorrhea
So, you’re talking about Kick Ass, right?
J.
I think Kick Ass is more like Herpes… It scars you for life and the pain never goes away =)
Mines Hepititis C
Keeps the weight off and the kidneys and the bowels and the central nervous system….
CBR is a joke. Unfortunately, there’s not a comic news site out there that’s any better.
Even if I’d never read a Marvel Comic before in my entire life, I’d still find Civil War to be an imcomprehensible mess.
CBR is pretty much the Entertainment Tonight of comic sites.
No love for comics bulletin?
http://www.comicsbulletin.com/
I haven’t checked them out in a while
I’ve never heard of it before. I’ll give it a look when I’m done with Sankakucomplex. From first looks though, it doesn’t seem like it’s covering a lot of the mainstream news when one of their features is a review of old Garfield comics.
Have you ever checked out The Beat? I usually check it out everyday.
J.
Are you sure you didn’t mean Tiger Beat?
If that’s the one by that Heidi woman, I used to read it when it was hosted by Comicon.com. I kinda lost track of it over the years and BleedingCool eventually replaced it. Actually, I never would have found you guys if not for a link on BleedingCool. Now you know who to blame.
Ya, that’s the same woman. Heidi McDonald I believe. I like Bleeding Cool so I can’t really complain about that.
J.
Hell majority of the comic news sites and blogs for that matter tend to be sycophantic.
Man, I totally agree with everything you just said.
J.
The Nick Simmons of music!
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/05/27/rapper-soulja-boy-rips-off-death-note/
J.
The fact that Soulja Boy is even regarded as a musician makes me want to kill myself.
Can anyone care to explain the end of Return of Bruce Wayne #2?? I just re read it for the 2nd time and what
I got out of it was that the bio organic archivist at the end of time (the vanishing point) that superman, booster, and hal went to see ended up being a future bruce wayne and stole their time sphere?
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=user_review&id=2271
Hey! Good news 🙂
Why is this good news? I actually really liked the first issue. I will read the second issue tomorrow. Fuck CBR.
J.
That comic was good? Bringing back Maxwell Lord actually worked? Damn, I gotta say I am shocked..
I was shocked too, Mike. Believe me. I thought I was going to hate the book but it turned out to be one of the best things I read that week.
J.
It’s good news since CBR doesn’t know their ass from a hole in the ground. If they didn’t like it, it’s got to be good.
I’m running out of sites I can trust man…
ComicVine, CBR. Bleeding Cool was good until they started praising “CLiNT” or w.e. that shit was called. I barely check that site now…
And Don’t get my started on how much IGN sucks. CCW is really the only site I visit now for comics (and game updates every now and then)
I still check CBR for news but I never bother with their reviews, columns, or their forums(the mod in the DC section is a douche who’s decided on his own that his area should be PG even though the site’s creator will often swear in his own interviews; the Marvel section is full of Marvel Zombies who will attack at a moment’s notice).
What wrong with IGN? You don’t like that their updates may not be as timely as other comic specialty sites?
Their reviews are really fucking terrible for the most part. But that’s just my opinion.
J.
It’s easy to see how one would come to such a conclusion since they gave the fan favorite Doomwar a 5/10. Yeesh!
Well, we usually give poor reviews to “fan favorites”. Do you like Doomwar?
J.
No, I haven’t been picking it up.
The only good news is the New Testament.
For these people if it ain’t written by Johns or Bendis than it isn’t worth reading. I give this more of a chance than I would anything Johns or Bendis is curtainly writing.
Currently writing, man am I tired.
You writing a cook book?
J.
No, just making a correction to my comment meant to write currently writing and I instead wrote curtainly writing.
Oh…I missed that. Guess I’m kinda tired too. And drunk.
J.
Anyway, if I wrote a book it would be about everything I hate about comics. I’m not sure what the title should be. I’m thinking something simple maybe one word. What do think of Bendis: How Not to Write a Mainstream Comic.
How about Bendis: The Taint of the Comic Industry? Could I write the forward for it?
J.
That sounds better and sure why not. hehe
J.
To me you have Bendis driving the Marvel U into the ground and on the other side you have Johns making fixes to the DCU were there wasn’t anything broken to begin with at least not that I can tell from.
I’ll do the cover and a fore word
For Free
Has anyone here gotten Secret Avegers? What did you think? Worth the four dollars?
Well, it did have 28 pages of art so that’s a good thing for $3.99. BUT it was all one of the best Avengers books I have read in a long time. So I am going to say yes, the first issue was worth it. I’ll hopefully have a review typed up by tomorrow for it.
J.
Damn it. This comic may the one exception I’ll have to make about my rule on four dollar onging series.
I thought the book was crazy good. Not just another putting the band together, they get right to a awesome story in the first issue. Brubaker is back to amazing stories unlike reborn.
Where you been all day Tom? You’ve missed out on quite a bit.
J.
no shit man, I need to say fuck you the next time my lame south dakota friends say that i need to hang out with them instead of my much cooler and smarter internet friends.
It takes a long time to read 366 comments
South Dakota friends? Fuck that noise.
J.
agreed but It was cool to talk to my buddy that I went to high school with. that is now in a band that’s not doing to bad, here is one of there video’s, not my thing but cool to talk to him about touring and shit.
Got it and it’s pretty good.
Is it worth $4 bucks? Haven’t decided yet
I’d say the first issue was D. Don’t know if the rest of the series will be worth $3.99 a pop though.
J.
Ye§
Well, Thursday set a new record for most hits ever in a single day on this blog. I guess Elliott’s sensationalistic journalism won out in the end.
J.
I discover you blog and YouTube videos two days ago and if it’s like this all the time I’ll be sticking around. Dig the last rants, good job fellas.
Thanks Rush. I hope you do stick around. You’ve already contributed some really good comments. It’s nice to have another manga fan around here too.
J.
so you a big Neil Peart fan
He he ya I like Rush. Rush is not a screen name it’s my real name.
I figured, just like having fun, welcome to the CCW nation!
Thanks.
I contribute the record hits to ME!
I got a question for the CCW regulars, who here makes it their business to spread the word on this Blog and the Youtube channel?
I think if we pooled our resources and really pushed to promote CCW…
WE CAN GET JOSE LAID!
🙂
J.
this is probably my favorite sound track of any movie.
Mine too. I listen to it a lot when I write reviews for the blog.
J.
So does that mean you haven’t listened to it in at least a month? 🙂
You’re an ass…but you are also correct. I will be listening to it tomorrow though. 😛
J.
he he
This one is becoming a tradition here. This is the first time I have posted this when I was the one who got burned.
J.
Man, that’s the second time I’ve earned one of those.
When you earn it the third time you get banned. 🙂
J.
I’m going to have to pick my last insult carefully.
He he. That is most wise of you.
J.
how about
Dr. Doom has come a long way to get to DOOMWAR.
Building a tradition!
INSULTS AHOY!
Audrey Tautou looks like an anime character. She has the widest eyes.
And, yes, this is a great soundtrack.
Another anime fan here. 🙂
J.
J.
You watching any of the anime shows from the spring season?
To be honest, I really don’t care for a lot of the new anime coming out unless it is done by Gainex. I just can’t get into most of it. Is there anything new that I should be watching?
J.
Sadly not a lot of good shit but there are some gems:
Rainbow, House of Five Leaves, Katanagatari
I think I will checkout Stan Lee’s Heroman.
Cool. I will have to check those out. Thanks.
J.
J.
ya that’s true about FMA:Brotherhood. I stopped after 10 episode. I might go back and check the rest out one day.
You’re gonna have to explain the end of Paranoia Agent Jose, I’ve watched it like 5 times…
J.
J.
If you’re trying to post a video from youtube just copy and paste the URL.
J.
Jose, You’ll be happy to hear that I was able to track down complete runs of Cannon God Exxaxion, Genshiken and Oldboy.
Also Gunsmith Cats– but in the “REVISED EDITIONS”. Any idea what the hell that means?
Also saw Gunsmith Cats: Burst. Any thoughts on that series?
Thanks again for all the help!
J.
Thanks J.
Blood+ opening 3
Very nice. Now let’s try to forget that the live action Blood movie ever happened. 🙂
J.
GOOD GOD what the fuck were they thinking with that piece of shit.
He he. Good question.
J.
I see the “Justice League: Cry For Justice” HC is coming out next week.
When is the scheduled book burning? 🙂
I hate that story so much I’ll be there with napalm
J.
Jose,
It has always been my experience that trust between retailer and fan is PARAMOUNT.
More power to you.
That’s an interesting observation about chefs. Never thought of it that way before.
OMG! MY LIFE IS RUINED!!!
Whoa. That Lee douche won? He is from where I live. Mount Prospect, IL. Fuck, now I have to deal with more bullshit around here about him than normal. God fucking damn it. Fucking American Idol..
J.
I didn’t watch it, but I could tell ya now, none of them were worth a shit anyway. American Idol contestants never are.
The only one I ever sort of liked was Kelly Clarkson, and only cause she was hot..
Viral’s theme was pretty badass. That’s All I remember from Gurren Lagann.
🙂
Damn, just as badass now as the first time I heard it.
Damn, I missed out on a Conversation involving anime! 😦
Hey man, if you want to talk anime in the next open thread bring it up any time. I’m always down for talking anime.
J.
What do you guys think?
X-books right now are some of the WORST quality books Marvel is monthly producing, next to Bendis books.
Are you being sarcastic Venom? The second coming crossover is amazingly good.
I never thought I’d hear X-Executioners song be hailed as a classic, Inferno or Fall of the Mutants perhahps, now there were proper epics!
Massive team ups, intrigue, double crosses, and of course who could forget the epic battle between Stryfe and Apocalypse…it set the stage for so many future X-storylines!
I’m with you on that one Locus.
J.
I know… it’s rather strange.
J.
I have like 2 non-internet friends that I can have a intelligent conversation with about pop culture or comics.
a dog lives in my lcs, he’s pretty cool
Without real friends for comparison, it’s hard such a distinction. 😦
Edit: Without real friends for comparison, it’s hard to make such a distinction.
Thoughts?
http://io9.com/5549613/the-last-thing-spider+man-should-be-is-another-white-guy
J.
It would actually fit Peter’s character well if he was played by someone that wasn’t white.
I have a question why hasn’t there been a black Doctor Who?
Actor Paterson Joseph was rumored for a while last year to be the new Doctor Who when David Tennant left. Obviously he didn’t become the new Doctor but there was talk of it being a serious possibility.
J.
I can see someone of the asian persuasion playing Spider-man. Phan Phamnguyen the Spectacular Spider-man.
THIS IS AWESOME!!
Gotta love the Japanese. They always have trouble making a genre show that doesn’t feature a giant robot.
I have very little hope that Hollywood or Marvel can be that broad minded or progressive.
So true. Look at the Hollywood casting in the Prince of Persia and Last Airbender movies. I think the term that is being used is “White Washing”.
J.
Except for here:
Elliott
As soon as you mentioned the white washing of Jesus, I was going to scour YouTube for that episode of Good Times.
That Indian Spidey comic was released in the US a few years ago but it failed to find an audience.
You would think JoeyQ would be behind more Latino characters in the Marvel U. I mean didn’t he create some sort of team book with a bunch of Latino character while he was on Daredevils. Also, why is they only Black Panther cartoon airing in Australia?
Edit: why is the only Black Panther cartoon airing in Australia?
Seriously, I wonder about that myself.
How many shows have been made that starred black characters, smartass? And then compare that to the number of shows that have starred white folks.
I think THAT would be why folks might be annoyed by re-casting the Jeffersons.
Then again, no one may care.
Elliott
P.S. This whole ‘Peter Parker has gotta be white’ debate is starting to piss me off, so I’m dropping out before I get into it with anyone.
Ha ha ha. Now THIS amuses me. 🙂
J.
you can only change the race of a comic character if he is a villain ie Kingpin=Michael Clarke Duncan
Hollywood perpetuating negative stereotypes since 1942
I do hope one day DC and/or Marvel come up with ethnic charcters with the potential to become top tier.
