What comic books have you guys been reading recently? I just finished a hardcover with some issues of JMS’ ASM run. I liked it for the most part. I’m currently reading JLA: The Nail. Great artwork.
If anyone is watching the new season of Hell’s Kitchen, what do you think about it so far?
JLA The Nail is awesome. So is the sequel. I have all three episodes of Hell’s Kitchen on my DVR. I am going to watch them all tomorrow night so I’ll let you know what I think then.
They aired 2 episodes tonight, so they’re 4 episodes total for the new season. I’ll have to look for Another Nail if it’s just as good as The Nail. Also did Red Mass for Mars#4 ever come out? I read the first 3 issues and they were awesome.
WHAT?!? Now I have to buy the collected edition while still having the floppies of the 1st 3 issues lying around? Does anyone know why the 4th issue has been delayed for almost 2 years now?
I don’t really feel the following contains any spoilers… It is just business as usual.
The first episode of this season’s Hell’s Kitchen was absurd– even by Gordon Ramsey’s standards.
When they finally got down to service– he was SCREAMING and REPEATING the same insults over and over. He seemed a lot more desperate than usual to scare them… Maybe because he actually seems to have some decent cooks this time (emphasis on some) rather than just one or two.
He would have kicked me off the show in 5 minutes. At one point he was complaining about a scallop being raw and he screamed, “It’s raw! Raw! RAW!” Instead of sounding manly; he sounded desperate.
I would made a tourette’s crack (and then I would have left to pack).
It seemed sillier and more overblown than usual. (And I like the guy! And the show!)
I read The Nail back when it first came out. I remember thinking it was good but I don’t think I was blown away by it. Maybe I need to dig it out of my collection and read it again. Oftentimes I like things more the second time around. The reverse is true, as well.
I just finished a hard cover of JMS’s Supreme Powers Vol 1, and 1-17 of Rucka, Brubaker, and Larks Gotham Central, both were great but if you like crime books you have got to read Gotham Central.
I just finished reading Marc Guggenheim’s Wolverine HC covering issues 56-61.
I was particularly impressed Edgar Delgado’s COLORING of Howard Chaykin’s art.
If this is any indication, Delgado is already a master. I was ABSOLUTELY AMAZED at the coloring job. A good colorist should slow your reading pace as you stop to enjoy the talent. That was the LONGEST TIME I have ever taken to read any Wolverine story arc… ever.
For those of you who want to argue semantics, DC Comics September solicitations have 19 (Nineteen) $3.99 32 page comics listed. Those include DCU, Wildstorm and Vertigo.
At least they’re not 22 page books. How many 3.99 books does marvel have coming out, and how pages are those suckers, not including reprint, or wiki padding.
At least REBELS is staying at $2.99, btw how has the new story arc for REBELS been? I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve not been following it lately due to efforts to save money. Plus I find REBELS in bargain bins fairly quickly.
I have trimmed most of my fat, in the last 3 months I have dropped X-men Legacy, Red Robin, Batman, Captain America, Izombie(after the first issue) and I will not be purchasing Rebels (main reason is, even though that the first arc was so long and so awesome, I can’t hang on while having such a small part of the story every month) so I will be switching to trades on this title. I am also dropping deadpool this month.
i’ll be downsizing Marvel a lot in the comic months.
amazing spider-man around issue 650
ultimate spider-man (my last arc)
hulk (I’m quitting at issue 23: origin story rulk
incredible hulk (i’m quitting at issue 610: origin red she-hulk)
wolverine weapon x (my last arc)
frankencastle(probably after taking revenge on Daken)
I got all the newest avenger books and I am pretty sure I’ll drop the Bendis books after the first arc.
i am not that enthousiastic anymore about the marvel cosmic saga. I have everything complete since the Annihilation Saga and I’m considering to end the run with the Thanos Imperative
Secret Warriors and Deadpool are also on my list of being cancelled.
I dropped the x-men and x-force books a couple of months ago.
The money I save, will probably go towards Invincible, which I am very curious about 🙂
I dropped quite a few books lately myself so far I’ve Dropped:
This Month
Green Lantern
Invincible Iron Man
Invincible
I, Zombie
Last month:
Punishermax
Green Lantern Corps
Secret Warriors
I’m down to 14 books right now and 4 of those books are mini-series that are ending soon. Hope I don’t have to cut anymore books. Hopefully DC keeps Secret Six at $2.99 I’ll drop it in a heartbeat if it goes to $3.99
I know Jose I love Invincible, but I’m not happy about the $5.99 tag or issue 75 I’m taking my stand on it I love the book in fact Robert Kirkman is prob my favorite writer due to Invincible and The Walking Dead but I’m going to have to go trades on Invincible
I’m not really dropping anything yet but I am noticing that more and more of my time is spent consuming INDEPENDENT comics. I am not a color snob… So I will give almost anything a chance… Except a few of these titles that look like something I could have drawn or written while in a coma. (I have noticed a lot lately that several of the more expensive Marvel and DC titles contain MUCH WORSE artwork than 95% of the indies I read… Which, given their normally higher prices and wider distribution– is shameful of the Big Two.) I love art previews for this reason… I can tell in a page or two whether I am going to at least possibly enjoy reading something or not.
I’ve always been like that. I want to be surprised once I have the book in my HANDS!
hack/slash… I know people buy the big Complete Invincible Library Omnibus books (750+ pages each)… But I would strongly suggest that– unless you enjoy huge books crushing your lap or enjoy weight lifting while reading your comics– that the much more manageable Invincible Ultimate Collection Hardcovers (they are up to Volume 5 so far) are a great way to read the series.
Thanks for the tip, cause I was actually debating those two options.
The Omnibus looks really cool, but I remember having a tough time reading the Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus, so the smartest thing to do would be indeed getting those ultimate hardcovers.
Detective Comics> No Rucka.. No Batwoman.. No buying this book anymore.
On The Bubble
Fantastic Four> Started out great, but really has become a hot mess over the last few issues. Hickman is all over the place with this current storyline, I don’t think I have ever seen so much setup for a story that has gone no where in my life, come on, lets get this ball rolling here. And where the fuck is Ben Grimm at? He’s still a member right?
Invincible Iron Man> Oh look, it’s the Hammer family causing trouble.. again! If it wasn’t for the fact I love seeing Pepper Potts bust Tony balls every chance she gets I would have dropped this title down for buy to read a few issues ago.
Books that almost had me dropping it, but came back
REBELS> Yep, Rebels almost got the axe from me after the ending of the whole Staro arc, but Bedard(sp) quickly got things back on track in the last few issue.
I’ve dropped all marvel books since the beginning of the year and dropped most DC as the year has progressed. I’m down to indie, Vertigo and Wildstorm books. Though I do pickup issues of Jonah Hex occasionally, I like the single issue story format of that book.
I don’t buy many comic books. So the comics I have to buy when they come out are: Invincible Iron Man, Invincible, SHIELD, and Atlas. I might start buying REBELS again.
i cant wait for this loved the first few books but seems martin is too ^%$ing busy to finish his story
i know a story is good when my favorite character is a incestuous, child murdering, ruthless SOB
and i couldnt even imagine anyone else but peter dingle playing tyrion to steal from mbell ” he is going to kill it!”
and im happy sean bean is in it sharpie has always been a fav of mine
Manos
Mitchell
Time Of The Apes
All the Gamera movies
Attack of the Eye Creatures
Alien from LA
The Amazing Colossal Man
Master Ninja I and II
The Hercules movies
Teenagers From Outer Space
“Please Sun, let me finish knitting my socks?”
“Ok, massive earthquakes, horrible tidalwaves, destruction on a massive scale, but ok, you finish your socks!”
You know the line that got me hooked on MST3K? It’s kinda dumb but it had me cracking up so hard and I became a full-fledged fan afterward. I can’t remember what movie it was from, but there was a guy looking through the scope on his gun, wanting to shoot someone, and through the scope you could see what looked like a white liquid on the ground. Then Crow said, “I’m gonna shoot this milk to impress Jodie Foster.”
I decided to try and purchase the full runs of Battle Angel Alita and Battle Angel Alita: Last Order Manga series today. (These were my last Manga wants.)
To complete the runs I had to make purchases from SIX different sources today. 22 books total– from six different sellers.
For those who care, Diamond had this “HUGE” number of volumes SUPPOSEDLY in stock:
I found most of the titles at Books a Million once again. Wanted to mention this in case anybody is looking for Manga– as Books a Million seems to be a relatively untapped resource.
And publishers wonder why it’s hard to get readers involved once they start a series? Once again: LACK OF AVAILABILITY.
The hardest book to find was NOT from the first Battle Angel series… It was from the SECOND series and it was Volume 7. I went on Viz to purchase it and their link sent me to a secondary seller on Amazon. Jeez!
Mike F… I have had ZERO problems with Books a Million. They have been super friendly on the phone, their online stock seems to be EXTREMELY ACCURATE (down to knowing whether they have a copy of just one book) and they consistently run $20 off $100 coupons with free shipping. Books always arrive in great shape too. Combined with my Club Card– that means I get a minimum of 30% Off with no tax and no shipping.
The only thing (and there always seems to be a thing) is a MINOR THING that I mentioned here before: Do not use FREE Shipping if you need the books sooner than 10 days. I live in LA and most books in my orders come in a couple of days and a few books have taken 7 to 10 days to arrive. A really minor complaint– especially if you’re patient.
I would use my LCS for all of this stuff but DIAMOND just REFUSES to keep these books in stock. I hate putting my store through all the hassle of researching this shit– only to discover that Diamond has 5 or 6 of 22 books. (3 in stock because they came out in the last 3 months.) My store has much bigger fish to fry than that and I just prefer not putting them through the hassle.
And, as if to prove my point… Just got notice that (9 of 12) Alita volumes purchased at Books a Million shipped today. The other 3 are probably coming from alternate Books a Million locales– which means a 7 to 10 day delivery on those 3.
I’m OK with that– I have a LOT of Manga to read! 🙂
Oops! Just received the second shipping notice for the remaining 3 Alita volumes from the BAMM order.
Since I like my recommendations to mean something and to be based in fact– this should be an interesting race to see which box gets here first. (Depending on point of origin, etc.)
And Mike F… That’s TWO series you’ve suggested to me now: Battle Angel Alita and Vagabond! Was it you (or some other smart person) who wrote (paraphrasing) about Battle Angel: “You should buy and read this before Cameron gets his hooks in.” Excited to see what lies ahead. Been a long, long time since I have felt like a “newbie” when it comes to comics!
Yeah, I really feel like Cameron is gonna commercialize the hell out of this series. Which isn’t bad for Yukito Kishiro (B.A’s author) since he’ll get a little more fame (hopefully) but I really know that people will just start reading it ONLY cause its a Cameron film. I just prefer people reading it for their own interest and love of the series like myself. Not to be “cool.”
It’s a great series. My life needed that comic man. It opened the door to so many other manga’s/USA comics for me.
Vagabond is really great too. The details in it are unbelievable. Its a long series but it works so well. Like reading a Tarantino story with such detail per frame.
okayyyy….can someone help me out here..i just finished reading bendis avengers prime and i am confused to hell about whats goin on….ok hear me out on this.
when does this whole story arc happen, is it immedietly after they kill off sentry?, is it at the same time when the new avengers were going after the hood(new avengers finale) or is it way after the whole siege thingi.
coz from the artwork, they show that asgard is still in flames…so im guessing that its after they killed sentry..BUT if so, then when did steve rogers find the time to change his clothes?. Did he first go meet the president then fly back to the ruins…u think that they would have put down the fire burning asgard by then.
And where did jarvis come from and what the hell is he doing there? is he there to help clean up the mess???? And what about hawkeye!!!…wasnt he wearing the ronin costume during siege?, how come in this book his wearing his old hawkeye costume.. did he carry a spare with him.
And if this whole story arc is happening way after the whole Siege thingi, it still doesnt make sense.
At the end of Siege we see thor together with the other asgardians (including heimdel) showing up at the after party. That means that they used Heimdel’s powers to teleport themselves (the rainbow shit) which means the portal rainbow thingi is fixed and heimdel is okay.
BUT in avengers prime, thor says that heimdel is injured and the rainbow portal thingi is damaged.
from siege we can tell that after the whole sentry death thing, steve went to the president (in fact if im not mistaken he was called by the president). so he went to the president got his DEAL done, then what????
did he go back to ground zero and help out? if so why didnt he tell stark, thor and the rest about the new DEAL. And if he did tell them, why did he have to repeat it again at the after party at the end of siege?
So what happened to the characters costumes, and where did jarvis come from? did the editor really proof read this shit or is it becoz its a bendis book and it doesnt need any editing.
Im not sure if u guys r getting my argument here.. its just that this whole avengers thing is soo confusing., especially with all the different books out there. why cant they just make this whole shit as one continuing story in ONE book. it will be much easier to read and follow through. I understand that its a huge story to tell in such a short time and they had to spread it out into different books….but still…the EDITOR has to do his part of the job to make sure this shit follows through. Man, and to think that all this is just from one writer, just imagine if it was written by a couple different writers.
Jose u r right man, bendis is allowed to do any shit he wants, might as well delete the editors name entirely from the books credits. No wonder bendis’s tony stark does not relate at all to fraction’s iron man.
The funny thing is i went through most web reviews of this book, and no one mentioned this.
So am i the only one seeing this, or did i miss something.
The teleport in the end of siege could be Thor’s doing, since Mjolnir can do it too. That is the best I can do playing the devil’s advocate in this case, and given that Bendis never acknowledge/used Mjolnir’s powers other than lightning and flying, I doubt it was the case anyhow.
No one edits Bendis books except Bendis… And he does a piss poor job of it.
This is nothing new though. Hot creators almost always get free reign. For example, I have a copy of an early Alan Moore Swamp Thing script.
The entire sum total of Karen Berger’s editorial input after being presented with the finished script?
She put a line through the “U” letters in Alan’s “British spelling” of words… Literally that’s it. She put a mark through the letter “u” when Alan wrote “colour” instead of “color”, etc.
This is the same guy who has said he has been a diehard Marvel fanboy since he was a kid and he would never ignore continuity in his books. Not only do I think he’s never read a Marvel comic in his life, I think he is probably the worst writer in superhero history when it comes to maintaining the stories that came befre his. It doesn’t help that his editors are either so fucking lazy(or JoeyQ told them that they better never criticize a member of his inner circle of hacks) that they don’t even attempt to straighten out the shit the Bendis fucks up on a regular basis.
I love how the lineup for New Avengers is basically made up entirely of characters who are on either 2 or 3 teams. Also, is Bendis too scared to write an Avengers book without Wolverine & Spidey? While I’m OK with Spidey being an Avenger, not only do I feel Wolverine shouldn’t be an Avenger, he shouldn’t be on 2 Avenger books written by the same fucking writer. I thought the whole reason behind the shitty idea to have the same hero appear on more than one team was so 2 writers could share the same character. Other than the artist, there doesn’t seem to be much difference between Bendis’ 2 Avengers books.
This is of topic, but I finally saw the Avatar.I don’t have anything new to add about the plot or special effects. My question is: I’m starting to like Michelle Rodriguez…Has anyone seen a movie she was in called Girlfight? If so,what did you think? Is it worth seeing more than once?
years? or at the end of that run? cap brit just doesnt seem that long ago
i know you are big fan of that book it just wasnt for me
my problem its what i call comic book cheese that all characters seem to accumulate its along the lines of franken castle or red and blue superman or cyborg becoming a moon eating robot techno thingie. plus you know its not going to last somebody going to reverse sooner or later so i cant take it seriously. you read comics as long as we have you cant avoid it but it doesn’t mean i have to like it.
just pick a random c list character and read their wiki entry and see how much cheese they accumulate its a bit sad
as a buffy fan and a huge fan of spikes journey on the show from where he started to where ended up, its probably a little hypocritical of me, but i think vampire should be monsters not superheroes.
btw i think looker from outsiders being vamp is just as dumb
no because he had the curse thrust upon him he didnt really have a choice and but the redeeming vampire thing with spike was a bit of a problem for me. in the context of the series it worked great joss and co took seasons to get to him there and spike always cracked me up so more spike was a good thing. but if spike and angel could be redeemed and get souls back etc it made buffy slaying vamps on sight but not killing humans a little problematic. if you can redeem 2 vampires why not more? now you cant just go around killing them . it opens a very tricky door thats problem i had with that.
but getting back to spitfire how did she become a vamp? and when? first issue? last time i saw her in the invaders series she was alive and well. and what is the reason she doesnt just act like a tradition vampire preying on humans killing etc? i just saw the preview for her one shot that why it came up
man thats a lot of vamps for one family her uncle, her, her son.
trying something new is fine but a lot times it seems more lets throw enough shit against the wall and see what sticks which is what usually happens to c and d list characters ray palmer or rick jones for instance.
like i said i like my vamps as monsters monsters are great monsters are fun no reason to make them “cuddly” it takes the fun out of them
from wiki
She joins MI-13 as part of Britain’s response to the Secret Invasion by the Skrull Empire.[volume & issue needed][12] In battle with two Super-Skrulls, Spitfire rips out their throats with her teeth, displaying vampire traits from her Baron Blood bite that have been previously unseen[13]. Captain Britain and MI: 13 writer Paul Cornell commented on her new traits, stating that:
In recent years she’s realized that she has actually started to be able to use certain vampiric abilities, and that the fangs appear when she gets angry. But she feels no blood lust, and has no need to drink it, and it’s all completely under her control.
—Paul Cornell[14]
so she is a vampire that isnt a vampire
i only read one issue of CB and MI13 so im cant say how cornell handled it
sorry that sounds truly horrifically lame kind of lets give her all the cool vampire stuff but none of the messy drawbacks like being dead or having to suck blood
sorry i was woefully misled by a quote for the writer that came up with the whole thing
it makes less lame and if his plan the whole time was for her to succumb to her vampire nature somewhere down the road and show her slipping over to the darkside as cap brit went along that might be pretty interesting
but if he just looked at vampire bite from the roy thomas era invaders and then said let me play with that and slap on some extra powers then im going with my original opinion
Kurumais, these characters (like Union Jack) have a strong history of fighting Vampires in Marvel UK books
Plus, we’re talking about a character who fought alongside Captain America in WWII. There was no deep freeze period for her, so the development works in order to maintain her as a youthful character
The idea might sound lame to you but if you read CB&MI13 you’d see how bloody well it actually works
Basically this is no Twilight-inspired retcon or owt, so your initial assumption is wrong
im been a fan of her for a while thanks i know the history
it was andriod torch’s blood that gave her powers way back and then rejuvinated her in an issue of subby then she had a back up story or 2 in cap before the 2 union jack minis then i read invaders so it was cornell that came up with the vamp powers vampness angle
if it worked you guys great for me for sounds dumb and unnecessary
i realize i got 2 pet peeves at work here the vampires are people 2 thing and the mix and match super dupers ei the ninja cyborgs who also happen to zombies or say a mutant who also happen to be a Valkyrie
those kind of character developments leave me flat
i thought stan had a good take on it im usually very critical of stan when it comes to anything hollywood i always felt stan would sell out any character just to get in bed with hollywood or tv
I collected the Invincible ultimate collections hardcovers vol 3 and 4, man they r totally worth it, especially the extra stuff on the back, seeing ryan ottleys sketches and the his roughs, is awesome. and the most amazing thing is that most of them r done at conventions. DAMN.
comics that im droping..
fantastic four: seriously i have no idea whats going on with the story. Hickman is trying to be too clever by adding too many plot setups that im afraid that in the end he will probably confuse himself as well. Plus i heard there was going to be a fantastic 3!!!!!!!WTF
Green Latern and Brightest day books: the story plots in these books are getting to much for me, all this bullcrap about the universe, and dead heroes..i dont see any end point to geoff johns story, it feels like a redundant cycle.
iron man: hmmm im still not sure on this one, i may drop it and then just pick up the trades, but i will most definetly drop it when fraction’s thor gets started.
I don’t know if you’re busting my ballsack or not. 😉
Iron Man 2 reminded me a lot of The Empire Strikes Back– a film as interstitial bridging device– in the sense that it was laying the groundwork for Marvel’s take on their own Marvel Universe (not Sony’s Spider-Man take or Fox’s X-Men take)… Plus The Avengers and The Shield movies.
The villains were inconsequential. As we all know, Tony Stark has always been his own worst enemy… and the film was laying that groundwork too.
I mentioned this before… But I can’t possibly be the only person who thought Grant Morrison’s Seven Soldiers of Victory books were basically incomprehensible– and while “pretty”– also a waste of time and good trees… Right?
SSV isn’t incomprehensible…The way I see it is that it’s the kind of book that demands enough out of you to warrant multiple re-reads further down the line. I’ve gone through it twice already but I know I’ll want to get the deluxe versions later this year and will get as much enjoyment out of reading them all over again a 3rd time. So how is that a waste of paper exactly?! It’s inspiring stuff, for me at least.
However, I DO understand why people don’t like having to read his style on mainstream books like Batman/Final Crisis when they just want something more accessible from their favourite characters… But at the same time, for all of his faults, I think he’s one of the few writers in the mainstream using that posistion to try and push things forward, rather than pander to expectations/rest on his laurels.
I loved the risks he took with Final Crisis (Even though #7 was going too far), and in the long run I’d love to see his legacy inspire a whole generation of similar writers giving me more for my money within that 22-page window of opportunity!
No offense, DidioForever– I just don’t agree. I feel like Morrison was being deliberately obtuse when he wrote the entire Seven Soldiers of Victory– almost as if he was thinking it would be fun to be obtuse… In reality, I can’t even imagine what he was thinking.
I have read virtually everything Grant has ever written and I have seen dozen of stories where the plot was perfectly understandable– even though he NEVER attempted talk down to his audience– and the end result was AMAZING work.
I think it is really cool that you like re-reading stuff you may not have understood the first time. Me, I NEVER want ANY writer to write down to anyone and homogenize their concepts for the benefit of spoon feeding the masses… BUT I think writing that needs to be EXPLAINED or RE-READ over and over to understand fully is just lazy.
I finally read the FINAL CRISIS hardcover a couple of weeks ago. I had also purchased the tie-in graphic novels. I couldn’t believe it when I got to the Final Crisis Companion– saw the “Final Crisis Director’s Cut” and then PAGE after PAGE of Grant explaining all the cool little things they he put in the first issue… In short, I basically would have needed to read this to essentially UNDERSTAND the issue from Grant’s perspective.
It all reminds me of this: If you have to explain a joke, it is no longer funny anymore. If I need an author to explain in detail what he/she meant when he/she wrote a comic– I would rather said author simply increase the comic by a few pages (or issues) and INTERESTINGLY WEAVE (notice I didn’t write spoon feed) those concepts more fully into their books… So we don’t need glorified “cliff notes: just to understand a super-hero story.
In that sense, this would be a GOOD example of decompression storytelling.
I do agree actually Inside man. In fact you’ve nailed my thoughts perfectly.
Grant Morrison is my favorite writer (because he got me into USA comics.) My first introduction to Grant was WE3 which I fell in love with. Then All-Star Superman and then by then I loved his work and was ready for Seven Soldiers. It was probably the first Event comic I read. I felt very overwhelmed by all the titles I had to keep reading and the correct order. I enjoyed a few of the archs but overall I felt too tired to keep going. I was new to USA comics and was tempted to turn away by then but didn’t cause I had already got Animal Man and of course that being as good as it is, made me stay with his work.
But that’s the thing. New comic readers won’t really understand his work since its very outlandish at times. He’s extremely creative and we ALL know that he’s original. He’ll never copy anyone else. But sometimes its harder to handle. I felt like at times I was skipping over a few pages…
But I’ll always love his work even with the few misses…
Pretty cool, too bad only a handful of people in the world will be rich enough to buy a house big enough to hold it.
I read that makers of 3D TV’s are issuing warnings to people who own them not to drink alcohol while watching it, seriously what is the fucking point of a 3D TV if you can’t watch seizure inducing Japanese Anime while completely wasted!
NEWS FROM MY LCS
i usually never go to the comic store on wednesday
my buddy told me sales are so down the boss cut his hours
i thought it was busy today he said it was dead from what it used to be
thats cool i was afraid all the gloom and doom folks have been predicting for about a tear was starting to assert itself
lets hope business picks up for my bud
i liked really enjoyed doctor who this week i thought the romance plot was very charming and the doctor as a roomate was a great idea and they added a bit of footie in honor of the world cup.
ive been loving the doctor since his return under RTD but i like this season even more doctor who is my new buffy firefly farscape dollhouse i just cant get enough
Just got done reading the newest issue of Invincible and WOW….really amazing. So much action and story movement and the astounding thing is that this was only the second part of eight!
Thanks so much Jose for constantly talking up this great series, because thats why I started to check it out.
Also did anybody read the new Hawkeye & Mockingbird?…I was really impressed with it
Haven’t gotten a chance to read H & M yet. I’ve been too depressed to read anything this week since I heard that TNA released Roxxi. What..the..fuck!? And the fact that she “juiced” in her last match almost makes it feel that much more degrading. I am really pissed about the whole situation. All this after hearing Danielson got released. Thank god for ROH. If it weren’t for them I would probably taking a long break from wrestling.
Me: Hey sweetheart.. guess what..
Wife: What?
Me: I just ordered Pay per View wrestling!
Wife: What! Since when do you watch that?
Me: Jose turned me on to it.
Wife: Jose! That guy that got you buying his comics!
Me: Humm, I am not buying his books, I thought we went over that.
Wife: First comics! then Wrestling for money! I am going to have to take of Jose once and for all!
Me: You know it wouldn’t kill you to be nice to my friends.
Wife: …Growl…
And then things quickly degenerate into a Filipino action movie…
Yea I saw that to, but honestly not to surprising coming from TNA. They fuck everything up constantly. I mean they get rid of Roxxi but yet their keeping(and pushing) Rob Terry. Also lets not forget that this is the same company that decided to bury Desmond Wolfe because he was so over with the fans.
Yeah and I kept hoping that we would find out that the Danielson release was just a work. But it is very apparent that it is infact real, as he was announced for his first independent shows in July.
And definitely good call on having ROH, They are keeping me into wrestling as well(well that and Japan), in fact I just got some new ROH DVDS today
Ya, I got to get on the ROH website and order some dvds for myself. WWE and TNA are just killing me at the moment.
I was almost hoping that Danielson would be revealed as the one who was driving the limo at the end of RAW this week. The only reason I actually watched all of RAW was to see if the Danielson thing was a work.
Yea same here, and I was so excited when Barrett mentioned his name at the beginning of RAW because I thought for a second that would be revealing it to be a work. But then he said that Bryan would never be seen again and I was just like….fuck… They wrote him off of TV.
Although I have heard that WWE wants to immediately bring him back in a few months when everything cools off.
Yea I just got the Wrestlemania weekend shows and the last Dayton/Chicago doubleshot that has a streetfight between steen & Corino vs Generico & Cabana. ROH has had a great year thus far.
Your comment reminded me of a Megan Fox interview I read earlier today:
“Let me clarify this, because this is a very thin line I’m walking here [by] letting you say that I have comic book credibility or nerd credibility,” Fox explained to MTV News. “Because that world is an elitist world — the comic book world.”
So, she just basically slammed the #1 demographic for her new movie? What a fucking idiot. I give her another couple of years till she is completely forgotten. She can take that Twilight girl with her too and they can both trade sob stories about Hollywood wronged them after they completely shat on their fanbase.
awe shit my roommate used to play this game all the time and i would do kanji impressions that sounded like an illiterate homophobic gangster from the 20’s
yup i played persona 3 till one of my nephews stole it lol i got it back so i can finish it
in a way its one their the most ridiculous games ive ever played dating sims where you kill stuff but i love em
i get so caught up in social links studying and school part time jobs i am getting anxiety from not being able to juggle it all lol
the story lines for both games sucked me in i thought 4 was a little slower in the beginning starting the action up but now completely immersed
its not so much a game as a interactive story i feel like im in a really excellent anime
does altus have any other non shin megami games that are any good? or more accurately this damn good?
there is a lot of good writing in this
they have an online version of shin megami i have stayed away from i have enough addictions in my life
why are chie and yusuke so mean to kuma? he is a fun bear
I have only played Persona 3, Persona 3 FES and Persona 4. I don’t know what the other SMT games are like. I know Atlus released a remake of Persona 1 for the PSP earlier this year and are releasing yet another Persona 3 version for the PSP as well.
i just got past the camping part the curry bit was pretty funny especially the yusuke his the bench
i would love to know where the nosebleed gag comes from, where it started and why its so pervasive in japanese entertainment its all over their stuff anime/manga games and ive seen it doramas
its a decent gag but kind weird horny = nosebleed lol
I NEED tanaka’s homshopping theme music as a ringtone
im getting a cool buffy scooby gang vibe from the investigation part of the game
i like how dojima and the cops arent completely in the dark about stuff happening or what the MC and gang are doing
gives it a nice tension
i havent broke down for a ps3 but if they announce another persona 5 im going be short 300 bucks
Atlus has announced that they ARE working on Persona 5. BUT they haven’t said what system it’s for. It is either the PSP or PS3. Hopefully we will find out soon.
Is it just you guys or is that red haired Guild/Dr. Horrible chick considered cute by the rest of fandom? While I usually find the “cute nerds” like Smallville’s Chloe or the token that Joss Whedon seems to cast in every one of his productions quite attractive, I just don’t get this one(except for her red hair). The Asian girl in the video seems like she’d be the “cute one”.
It did take me a while to get into it but I do like it now. And I know nothing about cars so I guess that says something about it’s entertainment value…for me at least.
I do watch it on a fairly regular bases. I didn’t like Hammond bad mouthing motorcycle riders, but he did kind of redeem himself on that Vietnam episode. It seems to me like they try way to hard to be funny.
The in studio stuff is pretty forced, I agree. At times it is even unbearable. I like the segments when they are out “racing” each other like the Vietnam episode or when they were in Japan.
It’s not as bad as The Jay Leno Show where he ripped off their celebrity lap in the reasonably priced car instead he put them in a electric car. Fucking Jay Leno.
I catch an episode here and there. I know nothing about cars either but I love the challenges on the show and stuff like that. A younger version of Jeremy Clarkson would be damn near my perfect man. He’s hysterical.
Did you ever see there race across the American south to New Orleans. It was entertaining until they got to New Orleans that is, where it got depressing. The scene where they were chased out of the gas station, kind of scary.
Yeah, that episode got them in trouble with the U.S. State Department. So, when they did another episode in the U.S. they were not allowed to be funny. Which was kind of funny seeing them trying to work around that.
Was the the episode in Nevada or the like drag racing in the desert? Cause I saw that one and they did mention they were not aloud to be funny but I didn’t know what they were talking about. It all makes sense now. Thanks for that info.
Hasn’t DC learned yet that they get nothing but failure when they kill off characters only to replace them with minorites? They have a ton of great minority characters from their Milestone acquisition that they seem like they’re never going to use just to spite Dwayne McDuffie. It’s fucking stupid!
No, it actually sounded like this. I am not even shitting you. And this is a neighbor in a separate building! A couple of years ago I had a young woman living in the apartment above mine. Her bedroom also happened to be right above mine. The words that came out of her mouth even made me blush. I am glad those days a re behind me.
I did like it. I liked it more as a New York film than as a teen romance story. It was kinda neat being able to identify every single street or restaurant where they filmed. There was one scene in which the kids parked on 8th St and 6th Ave, and I literally screamed at the tv, “You can’t park there! You’ll get towed!!!”
Which is not to say that I didn’t enjoy the story much, because I did. I just think I appreciated it on a different level than other people.
Since I was the one quoted in the CCW video for complaining about Elliott ruining “Up In The Air”, I say ruin “Greek”. Even though I usually see any Judd Apatow related movies, I fucking HATE Russell Brand & Puffy Combs!!! To be honest, I’m not a big fan of Jonah Hill either. I will go to see Marmaduke before I pay money to see “Get Him To The Greek”(unless the movie ends where they are all beheaded & their corpses are set on fire).
But, for the record, I am a bit of a hypocrite, because my last serious girlfriend used to say “cool beans.” I forgave it, however, because she was so ridiculously hot. Thankfully, she didn’t say it too often, or I don’t think even her looks could have kept us together.
I join you in your hatred of that term. For some reason a local reviewer uses it now and again and I wanna just shake him and say, “Really? Did a director ever say to your face ‘My next film will be a mumblecore movie’ ?!”
I thought Hathaway’s acting was brilliant in Havoc. And I will confess that I only watched the movie to see her boobs, but I came away from the movie thoroughly impressed with her as an actor. She has really good range.
I guess I’m as bad as ballsack if not worse. I paid to see this movie but I fucking hated it. It vacillated from “look how indie we are” to me hating the whole family & their fucking hippy wedding. I think Hathaway is talented but I would rather participate in an orgy at a nursing home than watch this movie again.
So I’m watching the cinematic version of 1984, after having read the novel for the first time this past week. It’s kinda funny how John Hurt is playing the hero who rebels against Big Brother, when he himself played a modernized Big Brother character in V For Vendetta. The irony is delicious.
call me crazy but their nemesis review seemed really luke warm wishy wahy mixed message to me
yeah they used good great but they didnt sound convincing justin basically said if like this go read deathnote its much better and this is ripping off deathnote
its written arrogantly? i havent seen that phrase in too many good reviews
that was weird did they like the book or not
do me favor watch it again and tell me if i am seeing things
I can kind of see what you mean. Maybe Justin, but Pete is pretty into it. He seems to like anything that is written on the same level as my 8 yr. old nephew.
i agree about pete and his tastes but watch again and see how enthusiastic they are for the other 2 books they review but for nemesis they seem to be going through the motions the one time they had a little zing to their nemesis review is pete standing up for violence in comics shtick but to me thats seems more like one of their running gags then an actual defense of the book
why is my question maybe i will hit there tuesday night show one of these days and ask
i like these guys i get a kick out of pete
i dont expect them to be E&J ccw is the only place ive found that you are going to get this level of examination and critique of books and the industry
It’s like Deathnote!? It’s good!? Christ…what a fucking joke these guys have become which is kinda sad cause I did like there reviews up to certain point. Now it’s just sad seeing them tow the company line.
Wow the first part of your response was what I was expecting, but then you got all politically correct and stuff. Are you going soft J.? lol just kidding. Or are I?
Hah I was going to post the video of Homer saying or are I, but I couldn’t find it on youtube. fail
Heh, no, I’m not going soft. A big part of our videos is repeatedly saying that people should respect other’s opinions even if they differ from their own. I would be a hypocrite if I didn’t practice what I preached.
I don’t see why they should either but they sure seem to. They shit on the Luna Brothers, hate Invincible and like Nemesis? Sorry but that’s just bizarre.
Well, you thought Attack Of The Clones was the best prequel. That’s bizarre too.
I’m trying to think of Marvel books they trashed recently at their shows. Hmmm… seems like the books they’re really hating right now are Brightest Day and War Of The Supermen. Eh, maybe you’re right. I’ll have to pay closer attention next time I’m there. I will say this: at end of every show, they talk about which books coming out this week they’re looking forward to the most, and they’re almost always independents.
Nemesis should Pray its becomes as good as Death Note.
Alright, I’ll say one thing. The Character Nemesis looks half-way decent, but that’s because fucking McNiven is drawing every other character like a piece of shit so that the one asshole you see in the comic you think looks good. Fucking asshole. Plus, he’s wearing an all-white outfit. Its kinda hard to fuck up something that simple.
Death Note is a very dark comic as well but showed the killings in a very discrete way. They didn’t have to glorify the killings like this piece of shit comic Nemesis. And Death Note Manages to rely on its own merits of cat-and-mouse in such an elevated writing style, that the killings really become second nature. We read to see the battle between L and Kira not to see mindless violence. Nemesis is just a piece of shit that wants to glorify murder and crime in the most childish way.
The way McNiven draws older people in Nemesis is disturbing. Everyone looks like they are roughly 200 years old and all fucked up like they are hung over. The mother of the Nemesis character I didn’t recognise at first because of the art. I seriously had her mistaken as a man at first glance. The fact that it takes him longer to do this than a lot of artists take on a monthly book is astonishing.
I am very stoked about this! As a newcomer to Manga– I admit I purchased the Death Note boxed set because of some cool art that I saw… So the fact that it actually has a good story is a bonus! 😉

I stopped reading Death Note after Vol 6. I just didnt have the patience for this stretched-out cat-and-mouse game type of story.
Somehow I do have the patience for 20th century Boys. Its a puzzle and we can put solve one piece at the time. there is a a lot of humour in it that makes it more digestable for me. I like the characters more then I did in Death Note.
my favourite line well one of was when cho sent around a letter to all his employees saying things like i don’t like team ups so don’t allow any teenage super heroes in the building. runaways young allies young avengers young anything really classic cho
i have no clue why pak and van lente’s herc run isnt bigger
all during dark reign folks kept saying how that didnt want those kind of books/stories then wanted stuff like fun heroics and pak and van lente had exactly what most seemed to be asking for
i didnt mind dark reign but herc was definitely a great change of pace a lot of marvel through it all
check your bargain bins people this is a great run
I like the trailer for the most part. But I don’t really care for the over the top violence. That’s not what MGS is about. It’s just pandering to immature Western audiences who like shit like Gears and the such.
Ya my fav part is at the end with the watermelon. I do think it is aimed more for the Western audience. What I was wondering though was if Hideo Kojima had any input in the design of this game at all? I see he was listed as the Exec. Producer, but this seems like a total 180 degrees from all the other games.
The only difference between violence (comics, games, movies) in the US and violence in Japan is that Japan always has a story. Whereas USA violence is just mindless and ridiculous. Gantz and Battle Royale are as violent as any work in the USA but they have epic stories. Unlike crap like… uhh…. Ninja Assassin? or stuff like that… Maybe…
ya purveyors of media generally cater to the lowest common denominator. Japans got it’s stinkers because not everything makes it here. For the most part you are correct, violence is viewed differently here.
Well in my experience most violent comics/games/movies in USA are just attempts to be like Japanese comics/games/movies. I’m not saying USA doesn’t have good writers that can take a really great story and throw violence in it. But in the last decade it seems the list of those writers is getting shorter…
But I’m not implying Japan is flawless either. They are just as guilty with their “MOE” factor comics/games/movies. If anything they have more of that shit now than decent quality things. 6/10 animes focus on the lead female character’s physical traits over a compelling story…
Insideman posted a really great comment earlier today on out last rants video. Since we are a few days removed from that post (and many of may may not have seen it) I will repost it here so you all can read it:
“As usual guys– you hit subject dead square. (Thanks for remembering me in the shout out too!)
Higher prices will eventually kill the industry… and as others have also noted– at the very least, start driving people to other forms of entertainment.
As you said Jose– You can see this happening almost every frickin’ day. I’ll add that I am sickened by it.
A more expensive Blu Ray is supposed to provide a better picture. The “Next Gen” $60 video games supposedly boast a richer playing experience.
More than half of the PRODUCTION costs that comic book publishers incur when making a comic have been reduced or completely WIPED AWAY by the use of computers and other printing technologies… and you still get the same 22 pages… Yet are expected to pay $1.00 more.
Ever look at an old comic bleeding through to another page and marvel how thin comic book pages are now– with ZERO bleed through? That thinner paper saves MILLIONS in shipping and printing costs… and that is just one example.
When companies whine about increased paper, ink and gas costs… It is mostly just whining. LOTS of products went up when gas jumped more than two dollars. That seemed understandable– given the sudden, drastic price increase. Then gas prices receded dramtically. Did the price on any of the affected products go down?
Fuck no they didn’t.
As you (and others) noted, if the comic price increase had been less drastic– then most people would have just shrugged and it would have been business as usual.
But a sudden, drastic $1 price increase cannot possibly be seen as anything other than what it truly is: Gouging for the sake of gouging… And a big “FUCK YOU!” to all the fans.
Enjoy it while you can BIG TWO… You are literally signing your own death warrants.”
The truly sad thing isn’t even the companies raising prices. The real goal of any business is to make profit it is in their nature much like crocs praying on animals who come to the watering hole. The sad thing is the lack of solidarity among the fanbase to send a clear message to the companies. Boycotting a company for one day, one week or even one month is going to work either. There has to be a boycott for a sustained period in great enough numbers to impact their bottom line. I am truly disappointed that this is not achievable.
as posted there doing some research i found out marvel and dc keep what the spend in printing cost a tightly held secret which makes me think its a lot cheaper then anyone would even guess
so im starting to feel the fu as well
atlas a joy to read this week the rock paper scissor scene was just amazing and hardmans panels nailed it perfectly
i give parker tons of credit keeping the venus’s song scenes interesting you would think her power would get stale and gimmicky but parker doesnt let it
And what do you think about Gabe Newell showing up of the PS presser to unveil Portal 2 and Steam for the PS3? All this stupid fuck has done is SHIT on the PS3 since Day 1 and now he says it’s the best console on the market? Fuck Valve.
I’m pissed about Fable III not being on PS3. I love the screen shots and Fable 2 wasn’t awful. I just hated the fact that I had to play it on the xbox three-shit-ski. Maybe Fable III will be a PC release, which I wouldn’t mind… IDK, I just love that whole “fable universe, Old time England” setting. I always have loved that style.
Gabe Newell rarely has a hit with me. Half-Life 2 got a lot of talk but I never bothered to try it. Team Fortress looked half-way decent and I seriously doubt that dumbass had anything IMPORTANT to do with it. Same for Portal.
” later, I realize that what I learned was how to write that story. The next one’s a whole new, all different set of problems, unless you’re one of those formula guys who just turns the crank and makes the widgets come out.”
Hummm, who does that make you think of?
” Lazy artists find ways to avoid drawing anything complex or difficult. They’ll do lots of close-ups, cropped shots and pin-ups, big foreground objects so they don’t have to draw as much background, and cram the meat of the story into as few panels as possible, or leave it out entirely.
Why not fire such cheaters? Well, sometimes there just isn’t anybody better available. Or there’s some other complication. In one case, I had a long tenured, big name artist, who was hacking like mad because he needed to churn out pages to pay his alimony. If there was a minor explosion in the script, he’d give it a full page, do some quick side-of-the-pencil smoke, and ta-daa! A page done in two minutes. Lots of big head shots. Lots of silhouettes. Few backgrounds. Then he’d cram twelve tiny panels onto the last page of the book that wrapped the story in shorthand.
So, what do you do? It got to the point that most writers didn’t want to work with him anymore. So I did. We worked together for a while, but he hated it because my plots were too demanding and I made him correct the cheat pages. I paid him to make those corrections, by the way. I respected his stature and I wasn’t trying to oppress him, just get him to do the job. He eventually quit and went to DC. He hates me to this day.”
Hard to tell… Since most everybody evenly remotely self-sufficient (i.e., doesn’t need a job on his “new” line of books) in the comic book industry HATES Jim Shooter.
Too bad Archie Goodwin wasn’t around to write that article. He was a talented, wonderful man and 1,000,000 Jim Shooters couldn’t carry Archie’s jockstrap.
Cheap shot. Few were Archie Goodwin. I still think that Unity and the Valiant line up till his departure are some of the greatest comics of all time.
The art on the Dr. Solar isn’t the best, but Dennis Calareo is a pretty good artist, and his X-Factore issues were pretty damn good.
The Artist in question , was from back in his Marvel days. John Byrne and Frank Miller continued to work for Shooter under his Marvel tenure, and they are both VERY opinionated men that can be hard to work with. So Shooter couldn’t have been that bad. I’d take him, an EIC that is over protective of the characters and controlling, than the opposite Joe Q, that lets his “talent” write the characters do whatever they want.
Very cheap shot. I thoroughly enjoyed his Valiant lineup and Shooter was a talented writer in his own right. There’s no question that Marvel prospered under his leadership, and his tenure will be always my “golden age.”
I’ll have to check out Calero’s work on X-Factor. If he is good than maybe it’s the colorist or the inker. The preview pages on that article left a lot to be desired.
I wasn’t talking about the quality of books produced under Shooter’s tenure… Nor was I speaking about his own writing capability– both of which were/are quite competent… I was characterizing how a LOT professionals felt about working for him during those days. Unless you were there yourself– or friendly with a bunch of people who were– it would be hard to understand how you could state he couldn’t have been that “bad”.
The mere fact that the man brings up a story about a conflict with an artist from 30 years ago to delineate how to write a comic today should give you an idea that professional grudges still exist– from both sides.
And the only reason I brought up Archie? Well, Shooter brought him up first… Which I found to be extremely ironic because 1,000,000 Jim Shooters couldn’t carry Archie’s jockstrap.
did you see Birds of Prey this week? it was brutal! gail has definitely ratcheted up the fight scenes over in secret 6 as well you expect it there but recent catman story line was especially visceral
reading through bop this week i got the same feeling i do when i read invincible “wow thats brutal”
brutally awesome
I see there is a new volume of Gantz coming out next week!
I need to read faster!
Also as an update to the Barnes and Noble sale… I got all my SUPREMELY DISCOUNTED books today… An eclectic collection of stuff: Dead West GN (Old West Zombies), How Loathsome HC (Booklist described it as “All four chapters star a lesbian in SF’s “genderfuck” community of those of deliberately confused sexual identity.” What?!? Since when do Booklist reviewers write like that?), Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse Volume 1 HC ($5.33!!) and Wolverine: Weapon X GN (because I never ever read it and I like Barry Windsor-Smith).
All had discount stickers on them that peeled off with zero problems. Books came loose in a box with some air bubble stuff thrown on top. (Certainly not the way my comic shop sends stuff.)
What’s amazing– they were all in perfect condition. Luck of the draw, I’m sure. Any type of book I ordered from Amazon that comes packed like that is normally mangled.
I’m not normally lucky with poorly boxed books.
(My first order, comprising the Cannon God Exxaxion set and one Old Boy volume to make $25 free shipping– did not fare quite as well but still arrived Near Mint for the most part.)
ive heard nothing bad things about this i think it was finished like 2 years ago
but ive been digging flags of our fathers so im back into black panther in a big way
so ill check it out
come on rushthats not for us its for cartoon network nicktoons or whatever the disney cartoon channel is called for 7 to 9 years old thats awesome stuff
This is going to sound a little out there but I found it so incomprehensible (and unnecessary) I had to bring it up.
I was reading the THULSA DOOM Trade paperback (Vol. 1) from Dynamite last night and in the section marked “Feast of Venom Book Four: Feast of Crows”, on page 11 of the story– on the lower left corner of page– the character Mallius shoves a dagger into Thulsa Doom’s ribcage shouting “Die, Thulsa! and Thulsa screams out, “NGRAH!”
Do me a favor and “sound” Thulsa’s response out loud, please. (In private, of course.) I’ve run this by 9 other people and they all say the same thing when they first see the word, then look at the panel and recoil like they’ve been bitten by a snake.
I really dislike “PC” people, “PC” police or “PC” corporations… But who in the HELL thought it was OK to have Thulsa Doom say that? Add an “i” and take away the “h” (depending if you like to spell your epithets phonetically) and I am amazed at the lack of historical language reference that would allow this word to get printed– then REPRINTED– in a Trade.
What a strange word to shout out upon being stabbed anyway (Forgetting, for just a moment, how it sounds.)
What would have been wrong with a good old fashioned “Aargh?”
Add Megan “Worst Southern Accent since Jodie Foster in ‘Silence of the Lambs'” Fox cleavage and butt shots, some heavy metal music and mindless violence… and you’re done.
A joke and a waste. There used to be an old TV show called “Branded” starring Chuck “Rifleman” Conners. This movie needed to be more like this:
DC annouced they are planning to adapt blue beetle to a live action tv show to replace smallville
get back to the high school teenage super hero thing
you think jamie reyes will stay latino if they do?
There is no way the WB will have a show focusing on a cast that would be heavily Latino let alone having a Latino as a main character like the comic . That show will be white washed top to bottom. Hope I’m wrong though.
what if they find a nice hunky latino in the mold of mario lopez in his saved by the bell days or mr freddy prince junior in his hey day?
george lopez ‘s sitcom lasted quite a while 6 seasons
Amazing Spider-Man #635 Looks interesting… I haven’t bought a spider comic in a while and I enjoyed Kraven’s Last Hunt. Actually it was one of the best stories I ever read…
I am absolutely certain that the following “news” story will come close to making Jose’s millennium ;-):
Does Kristen Stewart have what it takes to replace Angelina Jolie in ‘Wanted 2’?
by Chris Nashawaty
For months, it’s been rumored that Kristen Stewart was being considered to replace Angelina Jolie as leading lady in Wanted 2. Now, the Twilight star herself has added fuel to the fire. When asked by MTV News whether she’d be interested in filling Jolie’s shoes in the sequel to the 2008 action flick hit, Stewart said, “Yes. Definitely, as long as it was really good.” The actress added, “Wanted was a great movie…James McAvoy makes that movie different than most other action movies because he’s a real guy, and I feel most action movies don’t have that. But I wouldn’t just want to be in a mindless, blow-up movie. I’m not into it.”
Hm, that sounds like a ‘Yes’ to us.
While Universal, the studio behind the film, has not returned EW’s request for comment, Stewart’s name has been floating around the project ever since it was reported that Jolie would not return for the sequel and that the female lead might be rewritten for a younger actress. In the meantime, Stewart says that she is already booked to star in parts one and two of Breaking Dawn and On the Road.
Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? Why a WANTED 2? FUCKING WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Not trying to be rude but seriously Why a WANTED 2?????????)
you make enough money you get a sequel i respect the guys that did the american godzilla they made more then enough money to get a sequel but they thankfully choose not to
My favorite comment I received on you tube this week on our Last Rants segment:
“I dont think it is fair for you to say you will drop a book. You work at a comic shop so you still have access to at least read the issue. As a consumer, we don’t have that privilege unless we purchase the book or we think we’ll be missing something.”
Apparently since I work at a comic shop I am NOT ALLOWED to tell you guys that I am dropping a book and why. I am NOT ALLOWED to voice my opinion on MY show. If I drop a book I can just read it while I am WORKING because, you know, the comic shop just runs itself.
I BUY books just like everyone else but I guess when I talk about dropping a book that a certain someone likes I should just shut my mouth. Well, that is obviously not going to happen.
The second part of the comment just doesn’t make any sense. I guess this person is arguing that you guys HAVE TOO BUY every issue because something good MIGHT happen? Can’t you just not buy the book if you don’t enjoy it anymore?
So, ya, ignorant people are one of my pet peeves. Just wanted to share.
It’s the mentality exhibited by this guy I’ll call Tard Tardson that keeps us from sending a clear message to the publisher. I just can’t wrap my brain around this type of limited thinking.
McFarlane is possibly developing a live-action Sam & Twitch show. I liked the way Sam & Twitch were portrayed in the Spawn animated series. If they keep that dynamic the show could be good.
I’ve always felt Marvel has lagged behind DC in animation, not this time. I’m very impressed with this show though I’ve only watch thus far. Fans of the Black Panther will like this show very much. This is not a program you will want to share with the wee children though due to scenes of GRAPHIC violence.
Some viewers will complain about the simplistic approach to the animation but I think it was a good stylistic choice which shows off Romita’s artistic talent. Though using Stan Lee’s voice for a minor character in the first episode was a bit annoying. This show will do a great job of introducing the Black Panther mythos to a wider audience and why the character and the country he rules is such an important part of comics today.
thanks rush
i was chatting with one of yugi kids that hang around one the local comic shops i frequent a few years ago and he was asking me why i liked comics and stuff. he was a young black guy probably around 13 and he said comics were lame and white so i said read black panther so he replied ” WHO’S BLACK PANTHER?” broke my heart
I’ve been listening to a online comic radio show and one of the guys on the show got a advanced viewing of the movie he said, and I quote, “it was worse than The Spirit, and it was like Wild Wild West just no giant spider.” So, maybe, Avi would enjoy it. I may see it, just to compare it to The Spirit and worthy of the title, worst movie I ever seen.
In that same radio show I found out that ABC is shooing a pilot for a series based on one of Jonathan Maberry’s novels. The shows called Department Zero, but the book is called Patient Zero: A John Ledger Novel just in case anyone was wondering. I will definitely be checking that out, just like with all of Maberry’s work because I fear he will kill me with his jujitsu.
Little know fact about Jonathan Maberry he is a member of the International Martial Arts Hall Fame.
So is my Sifu, back when I used to take Chinese Kickboxing lessons (also known as Wu Shu Kwan). He was a bad mofo. He punched me in the chest once and it didn’t seem like a forceful punch, but it literally sent me flying to the wall.
Yeah, he’s written I believe to reference books on Martial Arts, and is a 8th degree black belt. So, if DoomWar ends bad I wouldn’t say anything negative in public for fear of bodily harm.
Hex, but honestly I don’t fill up to it. 81 minutes of Wild Wild West 2 sounds unbearable and a waste of money. Apparently, the plot is right out of Wild Wild West, I mean what did Grant ever do to any one except win the Civil War.
So far it’s pretty typical. Scientists working on a project with great medical potential and the evil money grubbing company is trying to get them to produce a unique protein instead going further into uncharted scientific and ethical territory.
I would rather throw you a grenade with the pin pulled. No one put a gun to your head and made you watch my recommendations. Let the viewer beware I always say. 😛
Plus I am too busy watching shitty flicks like The Collector and Ink to take shite recommendations at the moment.
I’m having problems with the movie’s score. They keep trying to create momemts where the audience is supposed to brace themselves for something scary to happen but all they succeed in doing is ruining a great moment.
I finding myself empathizing with the creature here.
The final verdict for Splice is rent it if are really bored. You are not missing much. This could have been a great scifi movie but I think it got lost along the way.
J.
there are no words to describe how much i love this
I love Karl, he’s a wiseman.
He so very is.

Just listened
Sweet Jeebus! Elliot is KING GEEK, never knew a grown man could talk about TunTon’s for so long.
Why? Why would you do that?
J.
I’m a terrible person.
I understand if it must be removed for the greater good.
He he. No, that’s ok. I’ll just shit myself in horror every time I scroll pass it.
J.
lol just plain evil
I wanted to post the skit from MST3K wherein Tom Servo sang this, but Youtube didn’t have it.
Yeah, couldn’t find the Tom Servo bit either. But found this. Start at 5:29.
Good man.
Anyone read Superf*ckers? Read it the other day. It was amusing.
I read the first couple of issues when they came out. Like you said, they were amusing.
J.
Have you seen the vid for issue 3 yet? A friend of mine did the SFX/directing
I was saving that for when I got bored at work. I’ve managed to unblock YouTube for myself.
J.
They aired 2 episodes tonight, so they’re 4 episodes total for the new season. I’ll have to look for Another Nail if it’s just as good as The Nail. Also did Red Mass for Mars#4 ever come out? I read the first 3 issues and they were awesome.
Damnit no I think Hickman said it would be released in the collected edition rather than a single issue.
WHAT?!? Now I have to buy the collected edition while still having the floppies of the 1st 3 issues lying around? Does anyone know why the 4th issue has been delayed for almost 2 years now?
Red Mass #4 never came out. I am waiting for it myself.
J.
Finished rereading Nightly News and Transhuman. I think I will reread Pax Romana next.
J.
At least they’re not 22 page books. How many 3.99 books does marvel have coming out, and how pages are those suckers, not including reprint, or wiki padding.
No. These are 32 page books with only 22 pages of art, just like Marvel.
J.
well that is a load of horse shit.
It suuuure is.
J.
At least REBELS is staying at $2.99, btw how has the new story arc for REBELS been? I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve not been following it lately due to efforts to save money. Plus I find REBELS in bargain bins fairly quickly.
It’s still good. New issue comes out tomorrow.
J.
Who’s dropping what books?
The money I save, will probably go towards Invincible, which I am very curious about 🙂
Books that I am really close to dropping:
Green Lantern Corps
Deadpool
Fantastic Four
Secret Warriors
Doom Patrol
I Zombie
Power Girl
Birds of Prey
Buffy
J.
I dropped quite a few books lately myself so far I’ve Dropped:
This Month
Green Lantern
Invincible Iron Man
Invincible
I, Zombie
Last month:
Punishermax
Green Lantern Corps
Secret Warriors
I’m down to 14 books right now and 4 of those books are mini-series that are ending soon. Hope I don’t have to cut anymore books. Hopefully DC keeps Secret Six at $2.99 I’ll drop it in a heartbeat if it goes to $3.99
Invincible!? WTF?
J.
I know Jose I love Invincible, but I’m not happy about the $5.99 tag or issue 75 I’m taking my stand on it I love the book in fact Robert Kirkman is prob my favorite writer due to Invincible and The Walking Dead but I’m going to have to go trades on Invincible
Fair enough.
J.
I second this motion.
J.
Thanks for the tip, cause I was actually debating those two options.
The Omnibus looks really cool, but I remember having a tough time reading the Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus, so the smartest thing to do would be indeed getting those ultimate hardcovers.
Franken castle
Dark wolverine
Amazing spider-man (temporarily during the O.M.I.T. story).
Dropped Already
IM
Ain’t you heard Bendis stole Ben Grimm
I’m seriously considering dropping Detective. This Jeremiah Arkham story line just isn’t working for me.
I’ve dropped all marvel books since the beginning of the year and dropped most DC as the year has progressed. I’m down to indie, Vertigo and Wildstorm books. Though I do pickup issues of Jonah Hex occasionally, I like the single issue story format of that book.
Books I’m close to dropping:
-Green Lantern
-Green Lantern Corps
-Deadpool
I don’t buy many comic books. So the comics I have to buy when they come out are: Invincible Iron Man, Invincible, SHIELD, and Atlas. I might start buying REBELS again.
ive dropped
brightest day
green lantern
detective
IIM
maby FF
i still like green lantern corps so ill stick with that 🙂
It should be “CB and MI:13 need you”, with plural instead of the sing… oh wait, semantics, not grammar, my bad 😛
Sovvy, my jokes are lame when I am bored/sad/stressed/depressed/any-combination-of-the-above. I will try to do better next time 😦
Never apologize for correcting grammar. I’m the same way. That’s why I like Bob The Angry Flower.
how amazing is this show going to be I can’t wait Bushemi is gonna kill it
Pretty much everything HBO puts out in a an original series is gold. I’m totally going to watch this.
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=game+of+thrones&aq=f
i cant wait for this loved the first few books but seems martin is too ^%$ing busy to finish his story
i know a story is good when my favorite character is a incestuous, child murdering, ruthless SOB
and i couldnt even imagine anyone else but peter dingle playing tyrion to steal from mbell ” he is going to kill it!”
and im happy sean bean is in it sharpie has always been a fav of mine
I will have to check out the books.
the guy who wrote these books also writes superhero/ xmeny type series to called wild cards that i have never read i keep meaning to pick one up

J.
Are they handing out books torn in half over at Icon now? You’ll get the other half after you eat your peas.
Are you talking about the half a comic story you got in Nemesis #2 or something else?
J.
That was the gist. In the article they got 1.5 and 2.5 under Icon for 2.99 and 3.99 for Sept.
Only MSTies need apply.
J.
They are doing good work over at TorgoLives.com.
This is my favorite episode of MST3K by far. I never get sick of watching it.
J.
My favorites:
Manos
Mitchell
Time Of The Apes
All the Gamera movies
Attack of the Eye Creatures
Alien from LA
The Amazing Colossal Man
Master Ninja I and II
The Hercules movies
Teenagers From Outer Space
Ah, hell, I might as well list every episode.
WHERE’S DAY THE EARTH FROZE OR JACK FROST?!
Battle Angel: 2, 3, 5, 6
Battle Angel: Last Order: 2, 3, 6, 11, 12, 13
I found most of the titles at Books a Million once again. Wanted to mention this in case anybody is looking for Manga– as Books a Million seems to be a relatively untapped resource.
And publishers wonder why it’s hard to get readers involved once they start a series? Once again: LACK OF AVAILABILITY.
The hardest book to find was NOT from the first Battle Angel series… It was from the SECOND series and it was Volume 7. I went on Viz to purchase it and their link sent me to a secondary seller on Amazon. Jeez!
YESSSSSS! BATTLE ANGEL!!!!!!! I grew up loving this series man. It makes me so happy to know others are going back to read the classics 🙂
So Books a Million is a trusted site? I’ll have to check it out…
Mike F… I have had ZERO problems with Books a Million.
I hate the idea of this being made into a movie. There was talk of an Akira movie but I think that is dead, not sure.
Nice tribute to Captain Britain and MI:13 Jose god I miss that series. I have all the issues in my closet I may have to re-read it sometime
I know. I kinda want to reread them now myself. 🙂
J.
2011 can’t get here quick enough.
J.
for once Deadpool is being used for good lol
why doesnt cap just use his shield as a shield.
i guesse there would be no game then
okayyyy….can someone help me out here..i just finished reading bendis avengers prime and i am confused to hell about whats goin on….ok hear me out on this.
when does this whole story arc happen, is it immedietly after they kill off sentry?, is it at the same time when the new avengers were going after the hood(new avengers finale) or is it way after the whole siege thingi.
coz from the artwork, they show that asgard is still in flames…so im guessing that its after they killed sentry..BUT if so, then when did steve rogers find the time to change his clothes?.
Bendis has a lifelong free pass from the continuity police, didn’t you know that?
so does brubaker
The teleport in the end of siege could be Thor’s doing, since Mjolnir can do it too. That is the best I can do playing the devil’s advocate in this case, and given that Bendis never acknowledge/used Mjolnir’s powers other than lightning and flying, I doubt it was the case anyhow.
You’re stone cold correct, MyComicLife.
Just wait till you read New Avengers. Have fun trying to figure out where that piece of shit fits into all of this.
J.
Hey…just ignore the man behind the curtain, it’s Bendis what does he care about stuff making sense?
Seriously one thing you need to learn when it comes to this particular writer, he doesn’t give a crap. He’s getting paid and you don’t matter.
My friend sent me this picture the other day.
these guys are good i just saw their european economy in 3 minutes bid
good post
This is of topic, but I finally saw the Avatar.I don’t have anything new to add about the plot or special effects. My question is: I’m starting to like Michelle Rodriguez…Has anyone seen a movie she was in called Girlfight? If so,what did you think? Is it worth seeing more than once?
i like michelle sexy tomboy more then once? i would say no but definitely worth once for sure
Thanks. If my specialty video store has it,I’ll probably check it out.
spitfire is a vampire now and she still a good gal? that might be the stupidest thing in comics now
Um…it’s been like that for years. She was in Captain Britain and MI 13. Don’t see what the problem is.
J.
years? or at the end of that run? cap brit just doesnt seem that long ago
i know you are big fan of that book it just wasnt for me
my problem its what i call comic book cheese that all characters seem to accumulate its along the lines of franken castle or red and blue superman or cyborg becoming a moon eating robot techno thingie. plus you know its not going to last somebody going to reverse sooner or later so i cant take it seriously. you read comics as long as we have you cant avoid it but it doesn’t mean i have to like it.
just pick a random c list character and read their wiki entry and see how much cheese they accumulate its a bit sad
as a buffy fan and a huge fan of spikes journey on the show from where he started to where ended up, its probably a little hypocritical of me, but i think vampire should be monsters not superheroes.
btw i think looker from outsiders being vamp is just as dumb
does she sparkle?
K
Captain Britain and MI 13 #1 came out May 2008. Spitfire was in the first issue. So, yes, years.
And I think what Paul Cornell did with her character was great. God forbid someone try to do anything new.
“i think vampire should be monsters not superheroes.”
I take it you really fucking hated Angel then, huh?
J.
no because he had the curse thrust upon him he didnt really have a choice and but the redeeming vampire thing with spike was a bit of a problem for me. in the context of the series it worked great joss and co took seasons to get to him there and spike always cracked me up so more spike was a good thing. but if spike and angel could be redeemed and get souls back etc it made buffy slaying vamps on sight but not killing humans a little problematic. if you can redeem 2 vampires why not more? now you cant just go around killing them . it opens a very tricky door thats problem i had with that.
but getting back to spitfire how did she become a vamp? and when? first issue? last time i saw her in the invaders series she was alive and well. and what is the reason she doesnt just act like a tradition vampire preying on humans killing etc? i just saw the preview for her one shot that why it came up
man thats a lot of vamps for one family her uncle, her, her son.
trying something new is fine but a lot times it seems more lets throw enough shit against the wall and see what sticks which is what usually happens to c and d list characters ray palmer or rick jones for instance.
like i said i like my vamps as monsters monsters are great monsters are fun no reason to make them “cuddly” it takes the fun out of them
thats just me though
k
She has always been a vampire ever since she was bitten by Baron Blood way back in The Invaders.
J.
But she gains back her “bloodlust” and other “drawbacks” during the Dracula storyline. So, sorry, try again.
J.
sorry i was woefully misled by a quote for the writer that came up with the whole thing
it makes less lame and if his plan the whole time was for her to succumb to her vampire nature somewhere down the road and show her slipping over to the darkside as cap brit went along that might be pretty interesting
but if he just looked at vampire bite from the roy thomas era invaders and then said let me play with that and slap on some extra powers then im going with my original opinion
Old news my friend.
You should go back and find Cap’n Brit & MI13 you’ll dig it
Anyone hear Stan Lee’s thoughts on a black Spider-Man?
http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/06/09/stan-lee-donald-glover-spider-man-casting-campaign/
someone told me that stan was on greg fergusion last night he said it was pretty good
not a great idea imo. How about the Falcon being in it?
do you think stan has actually seen him act?
i thought stan had a good take on it im usually very critical of stan when it comes to anything hollywood i always felt stan would sell out any character just to get in bed with hollywood or tv
Maybe JoeyQ is more like Stan Lee than I’ve given him credit for.
lol meanie
It depends is it the Ult Falcon or 616 Falcon?
Ult. Falcon honestly could be of any race, he’s basically a SHIELD scientist. Nothing about that version says he has to be black.
Nice find Ballsy
That is why Stan is the Man.
His answers usually sound very safe. Like how politicians answer questions.
Just saw Iron Man 2 (I know, I know) but I loved it. Had a few small problems… But overall I liked it… a lot.
I liked the scene with the armor.
Right.
J.
Well, I didn’t read that specific book, but I do feel that Morrison is vastly overrated.
I really liked the Zatanna arch of Seven Soldiers, and the Bulleteer arch. But that’s it. The rest weren’t my style. Klarion was interesting tho…
I dissagree
Overkill?

J.
It’s only overkill if it comes standard with the Asian model with the 3D visor.
We’re getting closer and closer to Weird Al being prophetic.
IM
I’m getting one.
NEWS FROM MY LCS
i usually never go to the comic store on wednesday
my buddy told me sales are so down the boss cut his hours
i thought it was busy today he said it was dead from what it used to be
Oops. Actually, I have been getting more hours myself so I’ll take that as a good sign.
J.
Yea readership has been steadily increasing at my LCS, so i consider myself actually to be lucky to have a good shop locally.
thats cool i was afraid all the gloom and doom folks have been predicting for about a tear was starting to assert itself
lets hope business picks up for my bud
Alison Brie alert! Those of you who watch Community know what I’m talkin’ about…or maybe you don’t. Either way, here:
http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/814484ebd6/the-committee-ep-1-bad-dog-w-alison-brie-rick-sommer
J.
I’m guessing that Brie is the younger lady?
i liked really enjoyed doctor who this week i thought the romance plot was very charming and the doctor as a roomate was a great idea and they added a bit of footie in honor of the world cup.
ive been loving the doctor since his return under RTD but i like this season even more doctor who is my new buffy firefly farscape dollhouse i just cant get enough
I’m still behind on Who
Only recently watch episode 8
Who are you behind on?
No, Who’s on first!
J.
That’s what I want to know.
No, What’s on second!
J.
Yuck..yuck
both of yuz numbskulls
The real Doctor “Hoos”
dee arent you a brit? over in Britain? hows the reaction over there been?
I just got caught up recently. I’m really happy I got back on the Doctor Who wagon.
Last week’s Doctor Who was easily one of my favorite episodes this series.
J.
Just got done reading the newest issue of Invincible and WOW….really amazing. So much action and story movement and the astounding thing is that this was only the second part of eight!
Thanks so much Jose for constantly talking up this great series, because thats why I started to check it out.
Also did anybody read the new Hawkeye & Mockingbird?…I was really impressed with it
You’re welcome.
J.
Jose, you just made my night with this post… I had no idea what the meaning of “juiced” was in terms of wrestling..
After bit of searching I came across this..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_professional_wrestling_terms
Fascinating stuff… I have something new to learn tonight =)
IM
Hooray! See, now you can tell your wife we are in fact an informative website and not a complete waste of time.
J.
Dude I’ve come to the conclusion we should do a comic together.
Your dialogue is awesome
J.
ROH has had a great year thus far.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/06/16/frank-quitelys-drop-dead-gorgeous-cover-to-judge-dredd-megazine-301/
Such a great cover. But I’ve never read this series before… But man, what a nice cover
The guy is probably my favorite cover artist
that is awesome
J.
That was pretty good.
J.
Uggggggg…
J.
Thanks for reminding me why I hate Hollywood.
How about another reminder. 😛
J.
I quite loved that scene…. but i am a complete sucker for that kind of joke, ain’t fair!
Your comment reminded me of a Megan Fox interview I read earlier today:
“Let me clarify this, because this is a very thin line I’m walking here [by] letting you say that I have comic book credibility or nerd credibility,” Fox explained to MTV News. “Because that world is an elitist world — the comic book world.”
http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/06/15/jonah-hex-megan-fox-nerd-credibility/#more-36117
Hoooooollllliiiiieeeeeeee shit. Bwa ha ha ha.
So, she just basically slammed the #1 demographic for her new movie? What a fucking idiot. I give her another couple of years till she is completely forgotten. She can take that Twilight girl with her too and they can both trade sob stories about Hollywood wronged them after they completely shat on their fanbase.
J.
That movie looks horrible, perhaps her career will die sooner than that.
we could only be so lucky, she will probably out live us all
what a fucking idiot. I HATE HER
i love these guys when i was a little kid channel 11 showed their movies every sunday morning i must have watched them all a dozen times
can you imagine the vaudeville audiences watching this?
I’m sure half of their brains exploded from the shear awesomeness of the act.
J.
i agree there were definitely hospitalizations due to these guys and this skit
im playing persona 4 for ps2 right now and im studyig more in game then i ever did in high school
lol what the heck is wrong with me
Games are an excellent learning mechanism, it remains to be seen what you’re actually learning from them 😛
I LOVE that game. Is this the first time you’re playing it?
J.
awe shit my roommate used to play this game all the time and i would do kanji impressions that sounded like an illiterate homophobic gangster from the 20’s
yup i played persona 3 till one of my nephews stole it lol i got it back so i can finish it
in a way its one their the most ridiculous games ive ever played dating sims where you kill stuff but i love em
i get so caught up in social links studying and school part time jobs i am getting anxiety from not being able to juggle it all lol
the story lines for both games sucked me in i thought 4 was a little slower in the beginning starting the action up but now completely immersed
its not so much a game as a interactive story i feel like im in a really excellent anime
does altus have any other non shin megami games that are any good? or more accurately this damn good?
there is a lot of good writing in this
they have an online version of shin megami i have stayed away from i have enough addictions in my life
why are chie and yusuke so mean to kuma? he is a fun bear
I have only played Persona 3, Persona 3 FES and Persona 4. I don’t know what the other SMT games are like. I know Atlus released a remake of Persona 1 for the PSP earlier this year and are releasing yet another Persona 3 version for the PSP as well.
J.
i just got past the camping part the curry bit was pretty funny especially the yusuke his the bench
i would love to know where the nosebleed gag comes from, where it started and why its so pervasive in japanese entertainment its all over their stuff anime/manga games and ive seen it doramas
its a decent gag but kind weird horny = nosebleed lol
I NEED tanaka’s homshopping theme music as a ringtone
The fourth comment down explains it quite well.

J.
thanks J
im getting a cool buffy scooby gang vibe from the investigation part of the game
i like how dojima and the cops arent completely in the dark about stuff happening or what the MC and gang are doing
gives it a nice tension
i havent broke down for a ps3 but if they announce another persona 5 im going be short 300 bucks
Atlus has announced that they ARE working on Persona 5. BUT they haven’t said what system it’s for. It is either the PSP or PS3. Hopefully we will find out soon.
J.
im going to have to go the darkside and watch this
I feel like sharing love:
I would like to, yes.
J.
this video gets a lot of reposts around here hmmm i wonder why?
Cause it’s a catchy tune?
J.
HAWT!!!
J.
That was effin’ great.
Any fans of Top Gear here?
J.
It has it’s moments.
It did take me a while to get into it but I do like it now. And I know nothing about cars so I guess that says something about it’s entertainment value…for me at least.
J.
J.
It’s not as bad as The Jay Leno Show where he ripped off their celebrity lap in the reasonably priced car instead he put them in a electric car. Fucking Jay Leno.
Fucking Jay Leno indeed.
J.
Never watch it, but looks cool
Yeah, the production quality is really good, but the talent is debatable. he he
I’ll watch a whole episode and tell ya what I think
I catch an episode here and there. I know nothing about cars either but I love the challenges on the show and stuff like that. A younger version of Jeremy Clarkson would be damn near my perfect man. He’s hysterical.
J.
Did you ever see there race across the American south to New Orleans. It was entertaining until they got to New Orleans that is, where it got depressing. The scene where they were chased out of the gas station, kind of scary.
Yikes. No, I haven’t seen that one. But now I really want to.
J.
J.
No problem, yeah, the second one was the trip to Bonneville for the time trials.
Nice! 🙂
J.
Could he be Spidey?
this will never happen.
If he is not the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man, I will not see that movie.
J.
I would he’d at least be funny, which Tobey wasn’t.
The last line of this post is full of truth.
BTW, this website is fucking awesome.
http://www.toplessrobot.com/2010/06/the_quick_rise_and_inevitable_fall_of_blaqualad.php
J.
Damn that is probaly the plan.
No…no..now your just trying to sway me to the Darkside J! The turning tide and wave of hate of Geof Johns, I will not be swept in!
Man your pure evil
I was actually reading this article earlier today and was gonna post it here precisely for the last line. Must have forgotten about it.
Your evil too!
That means Mumm-Ra lives.
I knew you seemed familiar
What…the…fuck…
J.
Why?
Finally, we are on the same page here.
J.
I’ve combined your love of asian women with gross bodily functions!!!!!!!
HA! HAH!!!HA! HA!!!! Uuh! HA!!
Fatality!
Deemar you sick monster!
I am a cartoonist, it’s a requirement
What’s crazy… If you go to you tube, there’s tons of these videos!
So much for working today!
Hasn’t DC learned yet that they get nothing but failure when they kill off characters only to replace them with minorites? They have a ton of great minority characters from their Milestone acquisition that they seem like they’re never going to use just to spite Dwayne McDuffie. It’s fucking stupid!
Just heard one of my female neighbors have a epic orgasm. Fun….sigh…
J.
And another one. Good grief.
J.
Does it sound like this?
No, it actually sounded like this. I am not even shitting you. And this is a neighbor in a separate building! A couple of years ago I had a young woman living in the apartment above mine. Her bedroom also happened to be right above mine. The words that came out of her mouth even made me blush. I am glad those days a re behind me.
J.
Katz’s Deli, where you can get a pastrami sandwich that’s like six inches thick. Nick and Norah drove past this restaurant in their movie.
Did you like Nick and Norah?
J.
I can see where you would. That’s pretty cool.
I liked it too…mostly for Kat Dennings though.
J.
While I do think Kat Dennings is hot, I thought Nick’s ex in the movie (Alexis Dziena) was hotter.
Just my personal opinion.
Oh..I miss the “good” Mike Judge
we’re going to need more details.
Can you smell the after glow
Did anyone see Get Him to The Greek? If so, what did you think?
Nope, but I have heard nothing but good things about it.
J.
For real?
For real. I heard it from a couple of reliable sources.
J.
I saw it. I won’t say it was good. But, I would like to check out the DVD just to see if there was a alternate ending.
I think I will end it on that, I do not want to turn this into a Up in The Air situation. he he
🙂
J.
I knew you would get that one.
Don’t ruin it!
Like I said, I will not continue further.
This Saturday I’m going to see it.
Looks funny
Anybody else like this film or am I alone on this one? And I am going to assume ballsack hated it so no need to hate on this dood.
J.
I own it on DVD so yeah I’m down for Rachel.
It’s the one sappy mumblecore movie I have
I HATE the term “mumblecore”. No offense. I just can’t stand it.
J.
I generally am not a fan of the genre, but dammit if that movie didn’t get to me.
What the fuck is mumblecore? I’ve never even heard it before. I guess I should urban dictionary it. Sounds like something out of Harry Potter.
The phrase I hate is “cool beans.” I’ve torn up phone numbers of girls who said that.
“I’ve torn up phone numbers of girls who said that.”
And for that you will always have my undying respect…no matter how much your shitting on things I like may irritate me.
J.
I just realized how dated that sounds: tearing up a phone number. Nowadays you delete someone’s number from your cell.
Fuck, I’m old.
At least you know how it feels to tear up a number, as do I. Things like that are non existent in this generation I am sure, as you pointed out.
Another thing that will soon be lost: mastering the mix tape. I did make a few outstanding ones in my day I must say.
J.
That’s easy I sneak my ladies phone and change up her ringtones
I mean Lady! singular, damn don’t need the headache
You can make me a mix tape.
Hmm? theres a business idea
A new age mixtape
But, for the record, I am a bit of a hypocrite, because my last serious girlfriend used to say “cool beans.” I forgave it, however, because she was so ridiculously hot. Thankfully, she didn’t say it too often, or I don’t think even her looks could have kept us together.
Ya’know what I do in that situation.
Find what annoys her and do it as many times so as to drive her mad.
That of tell her to STFU
hotness cures a lot of things
Mumblecore is a genre of films were Hipster dipshits, make awkward romantic/ironic/Oh so witty films full of emo rock and indie music.
It’s pretty much the anti-thesis of mine own blackness, but fuck all if some of those movies are kinda good.
Whatever. Still sounds like a Harry Potter character.
I love your description of mumblecore. 🙂 Posts like these are why I love this blog.
I join you in your hatred of that term. For some reason a local reviewer uses it now and again and I wanna just shake him and say, “Really? Did a director ever say to your face ‘My next film will be a mumblecore movie’ ?!”
Didn’t see it.
You should give it a look see.
It’s actually a pretty joyous if sappy movie and ol’girl Hathaway can act
I thought Hathaway’s acting was brilliant in Havoc. And I will confess that I only watched the movie to see her boobs, but I came away from the movie thoroughly impressed with her as an actor. She has really good range.
Buddy you ain’t the only one who seen it for boobs.
Guilty as charged
Plus William Hurt does not age, that dude is immortal
John Hurt, not William Hurt.
Butt Hurt?
J.
Mutt hurt
Oh my mistake, he’s aged well himself. well no hair
Alright I’m catching some ZZzzzz
Did anyone see this? WTF! I can’t believe what they said about Nemesis, but at the same time I lost all respect for them a long time ago.
And seriously they compared Nemesis to Death Note! I am at a loss of words. I don’t know what to say.
call me crazy but their nemesis review seemed really luke warm wishy wahy mixed message to me
yeah they used good great but they didnt sound convincing justin basically said if like this go read deathnote its much better and this is ripping off deathnote
its written arrogantly? i havent seen that phrase in too many good reviews
that was weird did they like the book or not
do me favor watch it again and tell me if i am seeing things
But hey, that’s their opinion and we have ours.
J.
J.
I don’t see why they should tow the company line. Only Alex works for Marvel, not Justin or Pete.
I don’t see why they should either but they sure seem to. They shit on the Luna Brothers, hate Invincible and like Nemesis? Sorry but that’s just bizarre.
J.
Sigh…all the prequels fucking sucked. Picking the “best” doesn’t really say too much.
J.
Exactly Jose.
That’s what I call “Comparing piles of shit and commenting on which pile doesn’t seem to stink as much”.
Yeah, but AOTC was soooooooooo bad. I despised damn near everything about that film. Phantom Menace was fucking Oscar-worthy by comparison.
Nemesis is just a piece of shit that wants to glorify murder and crime in the most childish way.
but that’s just my opinion…
“CRIME IS AWESOME AND SO AM I” ~Tagline for Nemesis #2.
Dude, its like a 14 year old wrote that…. -_-
Well said.
J.
Is that Magnum P.I. !?
J.
Yeah Baby… Magnum FTW!
On No! Where did Magnum go?
He got canceled. It’s time to deal.
Ya, where did he go?
J.
Magnum, come back!
Yay! Boy is that WordPress/Gravatar explanation for avatar bullshit confusing!
Do I need to have my own wordpress blog to have an avatar? That’s what it seems like if I’m reading it correctly.
I think so Cballsack or use the gravatar
Okay, I got the gravatar. How do I use it?
@cballsack Once you signup and sign into your gravatar account upload a pic. WordPress will pick it up. Also clear your browser cache if it does not show up.
So I jumped on the bandwagon and got an avatar finally. that Gravatar this is VERY confusing at first.
Gravatar needs to do a better job with their instructions.
yeah they really do
I stopped reading Death Note after Vol 6.
I agree… the logic game that is Death Note seemed slightly over the top to me.
Your opinion is full of WIN!
is anyone reading prince of power it’s preety sweet i’m really enjoying it.
i love it cho for president
my favourite line well one of was when cho sent around a letter to all his employees saying things like i don’t like team ups so don’t allow any teenage super heroes in the building. runaways young allies young avengers young anything really classic cho
i have no clue why pak and van lente’s herc run isnt bigger
all during dark reign folks kept saying how that didnt want those kind of books/stories then wanted stuff like fun heroics and pak and van lente had exactly what most seemed to be asking for
i didnt mind dark reign but herc was definitely a great change of pace a lot of marvel through it all
check your bargain bins people this is a great run
I haven’t
I like the character quite a bit he just fell off my radar.
have him fall back its worth it
Does anybody read this site?
http://www.graphicnovelreporter.com/
It looks cool and I read trade mostly… but wondered if anybody liked/trusted this site?
Nice site. Thanks for posting.
Hey J. have you seen this and what are your thoughts on it?
I like the trailer for the most part. But I don’t really care for the over the top violence. That’s not what MGS is about. It’s just pandering to immature Western audiences who like shit like Gears and the such.
J.
6/10 animes focus on the lead female character’s physical traits over a compelling story…
looks like a god of war clone now
Ha, love the added graphics.
Heh!
Senior-tality!
this video successfully combines two of my favorite things, Radiohead and vintage Nintendo games.
I like that Insideman
as posted there doing some research i found out marvel and dc keep what the spend in printing cost a tightly held secret which makes me think its a lot cheaper then anyone would even guess
so im starting to feel the fu as well
On a lighter note, Atlas was fun and worth the money in my opinion.
Indeed.
J.
Agree
Jeff Parker for life
atlas a joy to read this week the rock paper scissor scene was just amazing and hardmans panels nailed it perfectly
i give parker tons of credit keeping the venus’s song scenes interesting you would think her power would get stale and gimmicky but parker doesnt let it
the venus/lao scene was an out the park home run
With those scenes and Gorilla-Man’s one liners, make for a fun book.
yeah i missed praising them and i shouldn’t have
“drop it christmas” was my fave
http://kotaku.com/5565825/its-ladies-night-in-these-fable-iii-screenshots/gallery/
Looks half-way decent. I like old school English stories and Fables…
No PS3 release? M$ can fuck off for all I care.
And what do you think about Gabe Newell showing up of the PS presser to unveil Portal 2 and Steam for the PS3? All this stupid fuck has done is SHIT on the PS3 since Day 1 and now he says it’s the best console on the market? Fuck Valve.
J.
Same for Portal.
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=26692
I wonder what artist he was talking about?
I read that article earlier today. What’s funny is that the art on his Doctor Solar is pretty bad.
Yeah, I went there.
Oops, I did it again. 😉
is gail simone turning into robert kirkman?
did you see Birds of Prey this week? it was brutal! gail has definitely ratcheted up the fight scenes over in secret 6 as well you expect it there but recent catman story line was especially visceral
reading through bop this week i got the same feeling i do when i read invincible “wow thats brutal”
brutally awesome
Yeah I agree. I’m dropping that series now.
Gail is great but I really enjoyed nothing about that issue.
(My first order, comprising the Cannon God Exxaxion set and one Old Boy volume to make $25 free shipping– did not fare quite as well but still arrived Near Mint for the most part.)
you are our resident bargain hunter thanks inside
ive always been lucky with amazon myself
I can’t listen to auto-tuning, even if it’s in jest. It’s such crap.
Auto-tune the news cracks me up.
Aside from T-Pain I generally dislike auto-tune
i kinda like the idea bringing in a “real” guitar for the next franchises of Rock Band.
It might actually be a great way to learn the ropes.
Holy shit Dan Slott gets Spider-man!
Maybe

Heres that long over due BlackPanther cartoon theme song.
BET need to get their shit together and launch this puppy
Is there seriously gonna be a Black Panther cartoon?
There already is. They showed it in Austrailia. We’re just getting it late.
ive heard nothing bad things about this i think it was finished like 2 years ago
but ive been digging flags of our fathers so im back into black panther in a big way
so ill check it out
an extended preview is up on itunes

I have all six episodes on my HDD at home. I’ll watch them tonight and let you guys know what I think.
thanks rash
This is why I spell it Rush, cuz Rash… 🙂
yeah and an avengers series in september http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_G7_s8Bi9o
The character designs blow.
come on rushthats not for us its for cartoon network nicktoons or whatever the disney cartoon channel is called for 7 to 9 years old thats awesome stuff
I’m a kid at heart. I watch stuff for kids, sometimes it’s pretty good. Like the Last Airbender show. 🙂
One last thought before sack time: Just read the Variety review for JONAH HEX (NO spoilers here!)…
And the ENTIRE FILM– with CREDITS– clocks in at 81 minutes!
81 FUCKING MINUTES? How much is an average movie ticket nowadays?
(Then again, given all the negative reviews– it seems Hex may not have been short enough!)
And didn’t they need to do A LOT of reshoots too? What the hell were those for besides giving Fox more face time? 81 minutes? What a joke.
J.
Credits are– what 10 to 15 minutes nowadays?
Add Megan “Worst Southern Accent since Jodie Foster in ‘Silence of the Lambs'” Fox cleavage and butt shots, some heavy metal music and mindless violence… and you’re done.
A joke and a waste. There used to be an old TV show called “Branded” starring Chuck “Rifleman” Conners. This movie needed to be more like this:
I was really hoping Hex would be a serious movie like Unforgiven, considering the nature of the material is very character driven.
DC annouced they are planning to adapt blue beetle to a live action tv show to replace smallville
get back to the high school teenage super hero thing
you think jamie reyes will stay latino if they do?
did they say classic blue bettle or modern blue bettle
It appears to be the modern one.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/06/15/exclusive-youll-believe-a-beetle-can-fly/
There is no way the WB will have a show focusing on a cast that would be heavily Latino let alone having a Latino as a main character like the comic . That show will be white washed top to bottom. Hope I’m wrong though.
J.
No, you’re right the first time Jose.
what if they find a nice hunky latino in the mold of mario lopez in his saved by the bell days or mr freddy prince junior in his hey day?
george lopez ‘s sitcom lasted quite a while 6 seasons
oh cool i would love it if booster gold made an apperance.
haha
Amazing Spider-Man #635 Looks interesting… I haven’t bought a spider comic in a while and I enjoyed Kraven’s Last Hunt. Actually it was one of the best stories I ever read…
Kraven’s Last Hunt is one of the best ever, Mike F.
I miss Mike Zeck.
I watched this last night and I recommend it.
This is Paul Cornell’s show right? I’ll give it a look.
J.
Yes Paul Cornell
patrick from coupling is in it
I am absolutely certain that the following “news” story will come close to making Jose’s millennium ;-):
In the meantime, Stewart says that she is already booked to star in parts one and two of Breaking Dawn and On the Road.
http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/06/18/kristen-stewart-wanted-2/
Oh sweet Jesus NOOOOOOOOO (I mean I personally like Twilight -just me) but this shit is wrong.
What the fuck is this shit!?
Also, I thought Jolie’s character died in the first movie.
J.
The Loom of Fate simply trapped her in time and she is slowly making her way back.
Heh, well that does seem to be the popular trend in comics these days.
J.
She did.
But she has been reborn as a less talented, less attractive hollow shell of her former self.
Basically like any current Bendis Avenger– and most likely, the upcoming iteration of “Shadowland” Daredevil.
you make enough money you get a sequel i respect the guys that did the american godzilla they made more then enough money to get a sequel but they thankfully choose not to
The end is nigh.
J.
It’s the mentality exhibited by this guy I’ll call Tard Tardson that keeps us from sending a clear message to the publisher. I just can’t wrap my brain around this type of limited thinking.
Can his middle name be Tardis? Cause that would be cool. 🙂
J.
I know a guy whose last name is Bater.
We, of course, always called him Master Bater.
To save him from adult embarrassment– we just call him Master now… But people who know his last name pick up on it immediately.
McFarlane is possibly developing a live-action Sam & Twitch show. I liked the way Sam & Twitch were portrayed in the Spawn animated series. If they keep that dynamic the show could be good.
Need a laugh?

J.
Oops is right!
I haven’t been privy to an incoherent crapfest since that night I mixed entirely too much cocaine with a liter of Jack Daniels.
Cocaine with Jack is fun, I know.
Cocaine with crack and Nic is even more fun.
J.
Bad Lieutenant might be my “indie flick friday” tonight 🙂
With cocaine and Jack I hope.
Only ONE liter? Pffffttt…
J.
“There’s also a horse and an excellent dog with which Mr. Brolin has terrific chemistry.
that is awesome E is going to love it
Black Panther animation
On to episode three 🙂
thanks rush
i was chatting with one of yugi kids that hang around one the local comic shops i frequent a few years ago and he was asking me why i liked comics and stuff. he was a young black guy probably around 13 and he said comics were lame and white so i said read black panther so he replied ” WHO’S BLACK PANTHER?” broke my heart
Dude you are a masochist.
“Little know fact about Jonathan Maberry he is a member of the International Martial Arts Hall Fame.”
Whoa…I didn’t know that. That is quite bad ass with a side of awesomesauce.
J.
It was three books that are martial arts related.
You know what, scratch that, I just read his own website it was more than three.
which movie Mspot? black panther or hex?
Hex, but honestly I don’t fill up to it. 81 minutes of Wild Wild West 2 sounds unbearable and a waste of money. Apparently, the plot is right out of Wild Wild West, I mean what did Grant ever do to any one except win the Civil War.
Edit: I don’t feel up to it…
Watching Spice now.
correction Splice
Give us a review of the opening credits.
So far it’s pretty typical. Scientists working on a project with great medical potential and the evil money grubbing company is trying to get them to produce a unique protein instead going further into uncharted scientific and ethical territory.
The scientist decide to do what they were told not to do and freaky shit is happening. Nothing we haven’t seen in other movies.
at the 37 min mark. It’s gotten better. It’s turning into more sci-fi than horror.
Would sci-fi and horror together be called hi-fi?
Heh, indeed.
I hear that there is a rape scene in there. Made me not want to see it.
J.
No rape so far.
You still need to watch Irreversible. Don’t let the rape scene dissuade you. It’s a damn good film.
Well, I thought Magnolia was a damn great movie so you can’t really blame me for not taking your opinion to heart.
J.
Whatever. You owe me, pal. I’ve watched several of your recommendations. Throw me a bone.
I would rather throw you a grenade with the pin pulled. No one put a gun to your head and made you watch my recommendations. Let the viewer beware I always say. 😛
Plus I am too busy watching shitty flicks like The Collector and Ink to take shite recommendations at the moment.
J.
It’s not a rape scene Jose. It is a scene of infidelity. I see such promise in this movie, it keeps trying to be better but it just can’t make it.
Hmmmm…I was told it was a rape scene. Seems I have been misinformed. Hrrrrrmmmm….
J.
GODDAMMIT there is the rape scene at the eleventh hour, sorry Jose. I so did not want there to be a rape scene. Your source was correct.
I’m having problems with the movie’s score. They keep trying to create momemts where the audience is supposed to brace themselves for something scary to happen but all they succeed in doing is ruining a great moment.
I finding myself empathizing with the creature here.
Are you watching it on some site or did you download it?
Downloaded it
Hour and a half and this movie slipped back into horror movie mode.
The final verdict for Splice is rent it if are really bored. You are not missing much. This could have been a great scifi movie but I think it got lost along the way.
Ducked into theater showing Hex tonight.
Waited for a really crappy scene with Megan Fox (didn’t take long) and then said VERY loudly, “This fucking shit SUCKS!”
Left theater to lotsa laughs and wild applause!
Mission accomplished.
Good job!
Man, we gotta get a drink sometime Insideman.
J.
