Hey Folks, Elliott here. Jose’s apartment is without electricity so he asked me to take over on the blog until he can re-join civilization. You all know the drill:
And the fucks at Com Ed won’t come out and restore it till Monday. Apparently they don’t work on the weekends and my situation doesn’t count as an emergency. Doesn’t matter that it’s 98 degrees in my apartment and everything in my fridge will be ruinied if not already.
So ya, I’ll be on here while I am at work I guess but I won’t be posting again regularly till Monday.
If Deemar uses the quote in his “book” it will be PROMINENTLY FEATURED– because the man won’t WILLINGLY read ANYTHING OVER 5 sentences long himself! 🙂
Dude, I’ve been there.I don’t know what your frig situation is,but you’ll probably end up gorging on half and throwing the rest away.I never had to wait more than a day,so for you to wait the whole weekend as got to be agony. We’re all pulling for you tho. Keep yer head up and all the other cliches.
You might appreciate this song in your current situation. It’s not about ComED but it is about slumlords
The situation is the they said they never received my payment which I sent them 2 weeks ago. I guess I am partly to blame for not noticing the money hadn’t been taken out of my account. They turned the power off early Friday. I called right away to see what the deal was, they told me and then I just paid it over the phone. No one came back out that day to turn the power back on. And when I called today they said they don’t restore power on the weekends.
I agree with Venom, that’s so dumb. It’s like a million degrees outside! My company works on the weekends -I know from first hand experience.
What if you were elderly and in this heat with no power? It’s always so nice to see companies caring about their customers.
Hope your situation gets better J! Whenever my house looses power it’s usually back within a couple hours, so I can’t give much advice… anyway hope everything goes well!
Has anyone read Batman:Odyssey yet? I saw it at the LCS but I have to hold off cuz of budget reasons, tho I’ll probably get it next week. I was just curious as to what anyone here thought…
I did read it. The story was alright. The art, however, is great. My problem with the story was that it didn’t grab my interest right away and not much happens. Hopefully the story will pick up as it moves along.
The quick impression I got from just flipping thru it was that some stuff was happening, but ok. I also can see where some editor or management was like “It’s the 21st century,Neal… ya gonna stretch it out.”
Yeah that could be that an editor just recommended to stretch it out. To me it just seemed like not a lot was happening. If you like Neal Adams’ art then you should buy it.
I love Neal Adams art. Always have. That said, I have never READ a Neal Adams script that I liked. NEVER. (His writing style was just never my taste.)
So this will have to be an art purchase for me– and a reminder of what could have been in comics if Neal hadn’t moved onto more lucrative advertising and licensing jobs.
It would be cool if DC could get Denny O’Neil and Neil back together– at least one last time.
I can’t recall whether or not if I read an Adams script, but if he did the scripting at Continuity then yeah.. I can see where that might be a bit of a chore to get through.
Neal being Neal artistically is enough for me to pick up the 1st issue, but he’s gonna have to show something for me to pick up the series.
Yeah, out of pure luck. Plus Strange would never try to kill Harry, but he could certainly contain him. Harry’s good, mind you, but Doctor Strange is the BEST.
There are two C Angel tricks circulating in emails and I just want to smack the people who keeping sending them to me (because the tricks are so obvious)… Especially want to smack the ones who forget that they have ALREADY sent the videos to me before. 😉
DOCTOR Voodoo might have some issues w/Voldermort.BROTHER Voodoo wins over ALL.Bro kisses Blaine on the mouth and it’s over just like in The Godfather. And Criss Angel never leaves Hollywood, he just stages Britt Spears shows that never happen..
See, this proves Elliott’s point of fanboys never mentioning women. How come no asked Zantanna vs. Harry Potter or Voldemort? This discussion fails the Bechdel Test.
Zantanna beats silver age Dr Strange in a fist fight.I think I remember at least one Defenders where someone hit Doc in the head and he was out like a light for a long time. I’m not sure if modern Doc knows martial arts or anything.
I’m gonna give this one to Potter,(fot the record I can’t stand HP, Lord o’ the Rings or Twilight, and my despision ot the Star Wars saga is legendarl, but I digress) because Brother Voodoo being ticked about no longer being sorceror supreme, amps up Potter’s power so that not even the good doc couldn’t overcome it. Of course the flip side Harry loses his powers and gets taken out by the Narnia kids and then gets eaten by Aslan. then all was right with the world
Haha, well it actually kinda scares me. I mean this is one of the most violent comics I ever read and THAT many people are buying it… Just makes you wonder.
Sad true since the dawn of humanity, or somewhere right after that. Was it not for press/tv/computers&ineternet (and how easy it is to access them) I bet coliseums would abound at, at least, the western world.
Why God? Why? We had to suffer a year and a half of the apparent 1st part of OML. Why why WHY??? I felt so dirty and embarressed after I read OML. Fanboys truely suck. (sorry to those of you who liked OML).
Steve Niles, Elliott? Don’t you mean Steve McNiven? 🙂
But yeah on some forums I did see that people bought it solely for the art. IMHO, the art in that story was really stale and boring and lacked any real energy or, dare I say it, passion. But hey, if people liked McNiven’s art more power to ’em.
I was also one of those folks who defended OML. I WAS a big fan of McNiven and thought the story was ok, up until that abhorrent finale. Still trying to wash off the taint from that sucker.
The first part was good, Mike… The second half IMPLODED and SMELLED WORSE than that fucking Fat Guy who blew up in Monty Python’s “The Meaning of Life”.
I’ve been busy… and I’m also trying to think of something new to do with my blog. Plus, I’ve been taking kind of a break from comic books. Hopefully I’ll do something with my blog soon. Thanks for taking a look at my blog!
You haven’t let me down.I know sometimes life gets in the way. Just like Jose says it’s ComEd but he’s out of town on a date with a brown haired babe really (joking)
Don’t worry, your was better! I’m not necessarily a writer, and you brought out more points in your than mine. BTW, I would not be shocked if Jose was out on a date with a brown haired babe 😉
Some folks embarassment is other folks exhilleration, CBdude. No matter how often I try leaving this debate, I keep getting dragged back in (Did I pull off the Godfather approach? 🙂 ..)
Anyhoo I know I keep putting my head out there to get chopped off by defending this series, but while it’s not a cerebral mindf**k, it was a rollercoaster ride that I liked all the twists and turns and what have you……except for the final issue, which just came to a screetching halt Kinda like eating cotton candy all day but never being satisfied.
Here’s a question for any/all to respond to if you have read it. What did any of you think of Howard Chaykin’s Black Kiss? I’m figuring the level of disdain that so many share for OML, then Black Kiss must be like taking a shower with glass shards coming out of the faucet instead of water. 🙂 🙂 🙂
The only SAD thing about you guys BOTH liking the book (because, regardless of who is writing it– it is GOOD to LIKE the books you’re reading)… Is that, apparently, this “good” Bendis was ALWAYS still in there… But he just decided to subvert it for money and fame.
Good for you, Brian! Glad you got some cash and some stature. Now use the creative freedom to start writing good books again!
I think it is great that you guys both liked Scarlet. It gives us right to hope for the medium… If just a little. 🙂
I sat down to read a bunch of trades and hardcovers and realized I was still in the midst of Marvel’s “Dark Reign”. I literally just left the books sitting there for days. I had bought them awhile ago and I wasn’t planning on this pile being any fun. Then I read the first 3 or 4 and really liked them. The last one, “Dark Reign: The Underside” was filled with all kinds of subversive fun. (I already wrote about the “Zodiac” part of the book in a different thread.)
Then I got to “Sinister Spider-Man” and I thought, “This is where the sucking begins.” It was written by Brian Reed with art by Chris Bachalo. I’m not a huge fan of the overly cartoon style that permeates Bachalo’s work now… But Brian Reed wrote a GREAT script for it. The book played like one of those wacky 1940’s slapstick comedies and somehow the level of Brian’s absurd caricature– aided by Bachalo’s wacky art– melded together for a very entertaining book. The cover of issue #5 (used on the back cover of the trade)of a HUGE Venom/Spider-Man munching on the Empire State Building (with a big fat belly) was almost worth the price of the whole book.
Then “Dark Reign: The Hood”. I thought, “Never liked the Hood that much. I guess this will be OK. Maybe.” Then I saw it was written by JEFF PARKER and my whole attitude changed (especially because of Elliott and Jose’s constant praise of the man). So I sat down and read it and it was the BEST Hood story written SO FAR, BY FAR. And Kyle Hotz art (he was the artist on the first Hood HC) was great too. Nice to see Kyle working on a book in the “real” world (instead of MAX titles like Man-Thing… Although those were fun too.) But seriously, Marvel & Brian K. Vaughn actually owe a GREAT DEBT to Jeff Parker… Because Parker took a cardboard character and made the Hood a THREE dimensional, believable PERSON (NOT just a villain) for the very first time (at least for me).
Then “Dark Reign: Young Avengers”? It’s written by Paul Cornell. Hands down BEST Young Avengers book since the original stuff (which I believe gets an Ultimate Collection reprinting from Marvel next week). But Paul hit all the right high and lows with this script– with good art from Mark Brooks. I did want to shoot the colorists for some really outrageous 80’s-style over-shading (their use of the brown/maroon palette was gravely serious sometimes). But needless to say– since almost everyone has said it here already– the Marvel Brass were idiots to let Cornell go exclusive with DC.
Which brings me to “Dark Reign: Skull Kill Krew”. I honestly do NOT know what even possessed me to buy this. I remember reading the original Grant Morrison / Mark Millar trade years ago. “Reading” is a term used loosely because I had to put it down and STOP READING halfway through– it was that much of a joyless experience for me.
So when this hit the top of the stack I thought, “Here’s the book that stops the insanity of me actually liking these ‘Dark Reign’ ancillary books.”
NOPE. I mean, what the hell? I was CERTAIN I wasn’t going to like this book and now I was sitting here REALLY liking this book. MILD SPOILER: The whole thing with the Skrull Cows was hilarious but the book was also filled with very valid moments that questioned the need– and the mission– of the Skrull Kill Krew. You could tell that Adam Felber was having a great time writing the thing… And it is HE that should be writing a NORMAN OSBORN BOOK. Felber’s portrayal of Osborn was mean, funny and heartless at the same time… Think a GREAT portrayal of the Joker WITHOUT the makeup. The art by Mark Robinson and Rob Disalvo was the only thing I questioned. NOT because it sucked — because it didn’t. But the artists’ styles are VERY different… So to have 3 issues of one, then an issue of another, then back to the first guy– was a little jarring… But that was a MINOR problem– as Felber took Morrison and Millar to SCHOOL with this writing on this series.
How fucking weird. Marvel “cross-over titles” that DIDN’T suck. Since this is the FIRST TIME I have felt this way in 7 years of reading these BIG EVENT craptaculars, I am NOT considering it a trend. But I have been pleasantly surprised and would recommended ALL these books– if for very different reasons.
Unfortunately, there looks like there are a couple more on the pile to screw this up. I almost wish that I had read “Dark Reign: Skrull Kill Krew” LAST… As the next book, “Dark Reign: War Machine Vol 2” looks like it might slap all the joy outta me.
Hopefully not. The above testifies that I have been wrong before. Not often, mind you… But color me very pleasantly surprised. 🙂
Now if Marvel could just get more of those Captain Britain & MI:13 trades out there, I’d be happy! That title was the best thing to come out of Secret Invasion, another ‘craptacular’ x-over event.
Elliott, I fear that Marvel will be DOUBLY SLOW in releasing the trades now that Cornell has signed an exclusive with DC. I wouldn’t be surprised if Quesada’s MySpace mood read “spiteful”– as far as his feelings for Cornell go right now. 😉
You’d figure the higher-ups would think these career moves were just that– The price of doing business… But they always seem to take them MORE PERSONAL than that.
I also know these companies use the trades to help amortize “low” selling titles… So they should release the trades now… If anything, as a goodwill gesture to the series’ rabid fans.
Does Marvel make such gestures anymore (other than the Invincible Gene Colan HC– that they unfortunately seemed to not print enough of)?
I really like the animation so far. As much as I wish DC would make some original animated flicks, I’m a sucker for anything with Superman knocking Darkseid around.
Fuck!! Locus you bastard! I’m in the middle of watching the game right now and have been actively avoiding the radio or any discussion involving it, so i could watch it tonight!!! arrrrggghhhhhhh! Oh well, i was rooting for Spain anyway 🙂
I am also carving a log, taming a moose and drinking six beers at once, all while playing an intense game of lacrosse, with a guitar and harmonica, typing this message and cleaning up the debris still left from the G20 summit.
Ambidexterity is a bliss, with one hand he types with the other he washes the taint. Oh wait, this wasn’t one of my most well formulated phrases, was it? 😛
thx for the tip, rush
question though;
once you’ve changed your avatar is it cusyomary thatwhere it says leave a reply here on the ccw blog that instead of showing in box one your;your e-mail,box two your blog or channel and box three the box for your message and istead just shows the leave a reply box with username?
Cballsack… I’ve been meaning to ask. Does the “c” stand for “clean”?
Cause I am living testament to the ladies loving a “cleanly shaven” ballsack. Picked it up years ago when I was introduced to a lot of Porn Stars and started hanging out on porn sets.
Not only do the ladies DEMAND the clean ballsack but they make the point that a clean shaven area makes your JUNK LOOK BIGGER.
Obviously an optical illusion… Women (and men– don’t want to exclude anyone) always believe the junk looks larger after a clean shave.
And to answer your question, the “c” is for my first name, which is Charles. My last name sounds a little like “ballsack” and it was pretty much my nickname throughout high school.
I feel for you. My first name rhymed with “potty: in grade school… Until I got big enough to force people to change the way they thought about me. 😉
Well, I read “Dark Reign: War Machine Vol 2”. Book was crazy. Greg Pak’s script went from brilliant, to bad, to brilliant again. Used Norman Osborn way too much. NO way ONE man is in all these books doing all this shit at the same time. How will he ever have time to knock-up underage paramours of Peter Parker again? Art also went from good to bad then average. Very schizo overall. Not anywhere near as fun as “Dark Reign: Skrull Kill Krew”.
It seems to be Scarlet is the talk of the town. My favorite part of all the coverage on blogs and comic book review sites is the recognition of Brian Michael Bendis’ recent failures like The Avengers, New Avengers, etc.
“agine, if you will, the “storytelling” style of “Supergod” done at street level, and instead of taking on subjects massive and momentous, “Scarlet” #1 ignores the fourth wall and is far too self-conscious to be good. Blah blah blah murder blah blah blah sexual innuendo blah blah blah mountain of cliches. Tedious.”
hey mspot do me favor review the last cap issue for me i did the issue before that not sure if you saw it it was a couple of threads back
did you like the karl kesel 40’s newpaper strip thing? i did it was fun lighthearted gave it to one of my nephews for 4th of july
got get em addicted while they are young
Sure, Heres a mini one, it’s great to see the series back on track after the anti-climatic events of 605 even though I still think Reborn took some life out of series. I like the art style of Guice, and didn’t mind Breitweiser’s work, I enjoyed his work on Theater of War. Over all solid work.
I didn’t pick up the 40s strip because it was a mini so I thought I would wait for the trade on that one. But I heard it was a fun read.
Yeah, get them while their young just like the tobacco industry. He he.
Previews only got delivered today so I’m making notes at the moment. Theres not a whole lot that looks great so far so it might be a short column 😛
My actual box of comics hasn’t even left the states yet, somehow the 4th of July holiday has caused a 2 week delay…that sounds like a McNiven level excuse to me 😛
It’s funny how Schaefer has a look that’s like “My name is Paul, that’s between y’all.”
I still have my copy of the collection American Splendor published by Doubleday that I bought ’87. I’m not quite sure Harvey invented autobiographical comics, but he along with Crumb,Gary Dumm and the other artists he worked with helped perfect it.
So it lives up to the hype? I’ve been curious about Asterios, but wasn’t sure if it would be my thing. I’m not sure I’ve even heard a clear summary of what it’s about, most people just say, “oh it’s amazing”. Which is not really enough for me to go on.
It’s a character piece about the life of one Asterios Polyp. It begins on his 50th birthday and jumps around from different points in his life (the present and one point in particular in past). The point in the past starts off with with teaching architecture in college and how he met his future wife. In the present time he is no longer with his wife but we do not know what happened in his relationship. As the book progresses we find out what type of person he used to be (and what did in fact happen with his wife) and the character he has now become because of choices he made.
It deals quite a bit with art, philosophy and psychology. It is not a challenging read per say but it does need you to bring some intellect to the table to fully comprehend it.
As an artist, you may get more out of it then I did for different reasons. You should flip through it next time you are at your LCS. It is an amazing work.
Heh, you haven’t read it yet Insideman? I admittedly was late to the party on this book and Rush made me feel bad when he found out I hadn’t read it yet. Greendale will be next for me later this week.
You’ll have to let me know what you think of it once you read it J, but I’ve already heard plenty of praise for it. Plus anything involving Neil Young has my interest sight unseen.
Hey did anyone see that Edward Norton isn’t going to be Hulk in the Avengers movie? Here’s what Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige had to say:
“We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in ‘The Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. ‘The Avengers’ demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.”
Seriously, pretty much all the actors are b and c listers with the exception of Robert Downey. Man Marvel is fucking shit up yet again.
I read that in a local newspaper (actually it was Red eye,the one Elliot writes for) this morning. But I actually believe them when they say it wasn’t motivated by money. Rumor has it that Ed is sometimes hard to get along with. He probably just argued with the wrong producer one day. They probably said “hey folks like our computer Hulk now.We don’t need the talented guy who re-wrote the script and saved our franchise anymore.”
Apparently the director of American History X had a hard time with Norton, story goes, the movie you see is nothing like it was intended because Ed supposedly had the script rewritten several times to suit his own vision of the film. But AHX is a brilliant film, so who knows if marvel made the right choice or not.
Ed Norton asked for too much money for Avengers it seems.
I watched another one of Nortons films at the weekend, Down in the Valley, also with Evan Rachel Wood and the legendary Geoffrey Lewis, it was pretty decent.
I’m glad to hear that, Jose. It is on my must watch list. Ed Norton is NOTORIOUSLY hard to work with… And while his not being cast may cause a ripple up front… It would be worse if he MADE A STINK on the eve of the film’s release… Like he did with his HULK movie. Better to cut him loose. I hear Joaquin Phoenix is being seriously considered. He’s another troublemaker but his balls aren’t quite as big. 😉
So Jose… Forgetting the weekend trauma yet? Or is it too soon?
I was without AC in So Cal last MAY for 5 days and it was about 100 every day. Up 70’s at night with HOT AIR. Had to have my entire AC unit replaced. Top floor condo. Took awhile.
Thankfully I am NOT like you– as far as reacting to cold. You can’t make it too cold for me. I’d rather freeze to death than go any other way (short of a quick heart attack).
Having the AC going, a working microwave and COLD beer does help ease the trauma quite a bit. I am enjoying all of these “luxuries” for what they are worth at the moment.
And speaking of “a quick heart attack” I once had a dermatologist tell me that people with my skin condition have been known to DIE immediately after they jumped into a cold body of water.
MAN DC IS GRINDING MT GEARS TODAY! After the whole return of Bruce Wayne series, you think Bruce will be Batman right? No. You know what DC thinks we need? 8 ONE-SHOTS! All on differenent characters! I’ve like Dick as Batman, but when Bruce comes back, I want MY Batman back, Bruce Wayne! What a Marvel move!
Hey Folks, Elliott here. Jose’s apartment is without electricity so he asked me to take over on the blog until he can re-join civilization. You all know the drill:

That sucks man. Especially for your food 😦
Its rained all fucking weekend here.
wanna swap? 😛
I’ll trade with ya, too much sun here.
just remember don’t…
I figured perhaps I should butch it up a bit, sensitive is okay, but I don’t want my orientation being questioned 🙂 🙂
Damn,I meant to attach this
Negro-Sense tingling!
Brings back good memories
“Negro-Sense tingling!”
Now there’s a phrase I never thought I’d read. And I doubt I’ll ever read again.
I’m writing a book!
You never know.
😉
GOOD NEWS is:
If Deemar uses the quote in his “book” it will be PROMINENTLY FEATURED– because the man won’t WILLINGLY read ANYTHING OVER 5 sentences long himself! 🙂
Hah!
The brail translation is 3 dots

Got to love utility companies. The humidity in the Chicago area during summer is brutal. Hope you survive man.
Hope your situation gets better J! Whenever my house looses power it’s usually back within a couple hours, so I can’t give much advice… anyway hope everything goes well!
Damn Jose that sucks!
Stay cool and drink plenty fluids, that or crash at Elliot’s crib. He’ll pull all his hair out by Monday!
And Jose… You better stay ON THEIR ASS ON MONDAY TOO… Or they WON’T restore your power then either. Been down this road before. 🙂
I just finished playing Red Dead Redemption, and wow, whant an EPIC ending! YOU ALL MUST PLAY IT!!!
Has anyone read Batman:Odyssey yet? I saw it at the LCS but I have to hold off cuz of budget reasons, tho I’ll probably get it next week. I was just curious as to what anyone here thought…

If memory serves, Neal wrote all the scripts for all the books he did art work for out of Continuity (his publishing company).
They were not my “thang”.
The art is fantastic but I couldn’t finish it, I stopped half way through. I think the story needs more polish. I MAY try to read it again.
Alright, I am off for the today. Talk to you all tomorrow.
J.
Because this is Comic CULTURE Warrior, who’d win in a fight: Dr. Strange (as Sorcercer Supreme) or Harry Potter?
Dr Strange on every level. He knows more magic and he’s taller so he’d win in a fist fight.
Definitely. Doctor Strange is the Sorcerer Supreme, while the best Harry will ever be is an auror.
Elliott
I’m going to say Harry Potter.
He’s the boy who mothaa fuckinn’ lived. Nuff said.
Yeah, out of pure luck. Plus Strange would never try to kill Harry, but he could certainly contain him. Harry’s good, mind you, but Doctor Strange is the BEST.
Elliott
Yeah, but David Blaine pwns them both.
Until Chris Angel PWNS them All!
I hate that guy.
He’s like a magical Douche
I hate him too, what a tool
There are two C Angel tricks circulating in emails and I just want to smack the people who keeping sending them to me (because the tricks are so obvious)… Especially want to smack the ones who forget that they have ALREADY sent the videos to me before. 😉
exibit a
I can’t stand that fraud 🙂
I prefer the original
The Jersey Shore does it better
True, I’ll give yah that.
How about Doctor Voodoo as the Sorcerer Supreme VS Lord Voldermort?
DOCTOR Voodoo might have some issues w/Voldermort.BROTHER Voodoo wins over ALL.Bro kisses Blaine on the mouth and it’s over just like in The Godfather. And Criss Angel never leaves Hollywood, he just stages Britt Spears shows that never happen..
See, this proves Elliott’s point of fanboys never mentioning women. How come no asked Zantanna vs. Harry Potter or Voldemort? This discussion fails the Bechdel Test.
LOL! Good catch cbs!
Elliott
I fail at every turn.
I have plans of correcting that in the funnies.
Zantanna beats silver age Dr Strange in a fist fight.I think I remember at least one Defenders where someone hit Doc in the head and he was out like a light for a long time. I’m not sure if modern Doc knows martial arts or anything.
Zantanna beats Voldemort just by being cooler.
Of course the flip side Harry loses his powers and gets taken out by the Narnia kids and then gets eaten by Aslan. then all was right with the world
I thought Aslan was a vegan?
I think Harry was a vegan, so Aslan was just restoring order. I think he said afteward that Harry tasted like chicken. nom nom nom
How the fuck did NEMESIS get a 3rd Printing?
GGGGGGGGoooooooooooooooooddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd……. it just never ends…
Admit it…you’ve got the first 2 printings and the variants. 😉
Fanboyz gotta have dey Nemesis!
Elliott
Haha, well it actually kinda scares me. I mean this is one of the most violent comics I ever read and THAT many people are buying it… Just makes you wonder.
If Millar has one talent it’s the Sales Pitch, Nemesis is a pretty appealing concept and that Scotsman is selling it with all his might.
Plus he always plays to our baser instincts, that just what Millar does.
Keep it simple, keep it immature, keep it off schedule.
Violence sells. Look at how many people watched that poor guy get beheaded years back.
Sad true since the dawn of humanity, or somewhere right after that. Was it not for press/tv/computers&ineternet (and how easy it is to access them) I bet coliseums would abound at, at least, the western world.
Yeah that was pretty messed up.
Wow! Fanboys are seling the little dignity they have to Millar all the time, and they don’t know it!
Don’t know if you guys have already talked about this, but…:
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/07/09/marvel-to-publish-old-man-logan-two-next-year/
Why God? Why? We had to suffer a year and a half of the apparent 1st part of OML. Why why WHY??? I felt so dirty and embarressed after I read OML. Fanboys truely suck. (sorry to those of you who liked OML).
Anybody on here probably doesn’t not like OML CBD 🙂
That’s true. I tend to get really apologetic when I go on a huge rant.
I remember a few folks defending OML on the blog a while back. The biggest selling point being Steve Niles art.
To each his own.
Elliott
Steve Niles, Elliott? Don’t you mean Steve McNiven? 🙂
But yeah on some forums I did see that people bought it solely for the art. IMHO, the art in that story was really stale and boring and lacked any real energy or, dare I say it, passion. But hey, if people liked McNiven’s art more power to ’em.
D’oh! yeah, McNiven. My bad. Elliott
I was also one of those folks who defended OML. I WAS a big fan of McNiven and thought the story was ok, up until that abhorrent finale. Still trying to wash off the taint from that sucker.
The thought of you washing your taint is….disturbing.
Elliott
I defended it
Shameful yes, but I liked it.
Haha me too. IDK why but I didn’t hate it completely. Not worth buying but reading once? Yeah, I didn’t hate it completely…
The first part was good, Mike… The second half IMPLODED and SMELLED WORSE than that fucking Fat Guy who blew up in Monty Python’s “The Meaning of Life”.
Not OML related but Venom and Comicbookdude…what’s going on with yer blogs? Out partying so you guys can’t do essays about comics? (smiley face)
I’ve been busy… and I’m also trying to think of something new to do with my blog. Plus, I’ve been taking kind of a break from comic books. Hopefully I’ll do something with my blog soon. Thanks for taking a look at my blog!
I need to work on it, I’ve been pretty busy Edward, sorry to let you down, and I have let it get away from me.
You haven’t let me down.I know sometimes life gets in the way. Just like Jose says it’s ComEd but he’s out of town on a date with a brown haired babe really (joking)
You know waht, I think I am going to talk about Scarlet on my blog Edward either tonight or tomorrow!
This is wild but I posted a review of Scarlet on my blog earlier.I thought it was good BUT….
Elliott, what is your take of Scarlet #1?
Jose and I are gonna talk about it this week. It’s the return of classic Bendis! Elliott
Really? Is it good? I hope so. I loved AKA Goldfish.
Is it worth paying for?
Here’s a shocker for you…Jose and I BOTH BOUGHT IT! Elliott
I think my head just exploded. 🙂
BLUSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! 😛
Is it 2012 already? 🙂
Maybe Benids was inspired from your praises of Alias and Pulse Elliot ?! 🙂
I thought I knew you guys.
😦
The only SAD thing about you guys BOTH liking the book (because, regardless of who is writing it– it is GOOD to LIKE the books you’re reading)… Is that, apparently, this “good” Bendis was ALWAYS still in there… But he just decided to subvert it for money and fame.
Good for you, Brian! Glad you got some cash and some stature. Now use the creative freedom to start writing good books again!
I think it is great that you guys both liked Scarlet. It gives us right to hope for the medium… If just a little. 🙂
It’s obvisous he’s been phoning it in this whole time. It doesn’t take back the fact the guy has defouled Avengers for the last 10yrs.
10yrs! this guy is making Claremont look conservative in his handling and attachement to the X-men.
He’s actually making Chris look like a rebel! Claremont quit when editorial started telling him how to write the stories! Also see Joe Kelly..
Scarlet reminded me of Kabuki: Scarab, a book by David Mack, maybe also causeit has on the back cover: Amazing, Inspiring – Brian Michael Bendis
watch this vid before you tube takes it down again
90’s hip-hop! No bitches or corporate “gangstas”! George Clinton samples! Yea!
Word to ya Mutha!
More SURPRISING “Dark Reign” reads! WTF?
Elliott
Oh man, what is taking so long on those!? They’d look so nice on my shelfs.
Yeah, I just don’t understand the readership.
Captain Brit was the best team book of the last decade in my opinion. (Yes even better than AoA)
Do the fanboys on the whole not have a sense of quality? what is the disconnect? I just don’t get it.
They just love their famous stuff, and can’t get into a major company’s smaller low-key books.
I got into Captain Britain and MI:13 right as it was winding down, so I would LOVE to be able to get a trade and read it from the very beginning.
Yeah, I’m still waitin on those Cap Britain trades. That series went under my radar when the singles were coming out.
In case we all die, I just wanted to say it was nice knowing you folks.
http://www.helium.com/items/1882339-doomsday-how-bp-gulf-disaster-may-have-triggered-a-world-killing-event
It was nice knowing ya, cballsack. I’ll save ya a seat in Vahalla.
I ain’t dying, I think I’d have a pretty good chance of survival.
You guys are fucked!
🙂
I’m off the hook too 🙂
Dude,we’re comic book fans..and nobody in comics stays dead forever…
I’ll just wait for the Eradicator to come and take my body. He’ll toss it into a matrix and I’ll be fine.
Words of wisdom
That’s the character’s, Ed. Not the fans 😦
Maybe we should all start smoking again! (Those of us who smoked, natch.)
smoke ’em if ya got ’em!
Do not tease me like that man.
I finally put a new post on my blog and here it is!: http://comicszone.wordpress.com/2010/07/11/scarlet-1-the-return-of-the-good-brian-bendis/
</o
That is as perfect a summation of Batman I’ve ever heard.
er,um…this actually kinda rocks(?) in a mid-70’s MOR sorta kinda way? Maybe?
also,Jackson Brown called..he wants the first 2 bars of “Dr My Eyes” back.
That was cool.
An’ this one’s for Jose just cuz he’s an Amiee Mann fan and I’m a fan of this movie…
For all the Mann songs Jose has posted, how come no one ever mentions the band Til’ Tuesday?
hey I’ve posted these songs on previous M-Mondays
does that count?
Shit, that looked pretty badass.
Jeph Loeb written story= The Apocalypse, 😛
Shit STILL LOOKED badass. 😉
I really like the animation so far. As much as I wish DC would make some original animated flicks, I’m a sucker for anything with Superman knocking Darkseid around.
Here’s IGN review of Shadowland #1: http://comics.ign.com/articles/110/1104929p1.html
Did anyone pickk this up? What did you think? Me? I concur with IGN’s critique completely. Your thoughts?
Hm, don’t usually care for IGN’s reviews, but that was pretty well spot on.
So I take you go the issue and agree with them, yes?
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Ben-Marsh-Gaming-Mario-Tetris-sex,news-7394.html
I love how they made condoms for the segment of the population who’ll likely never use them.
That is rude, you are mocking J when he can’t connect, bad ballsack 😛
OUCH 😀
Hey, I haven’t gotten any since Valentine’s Day, so I’m in the same boat.

A wrestling moment I never get tired of 🙂
Spain Win!
Thank fuck.
waits for the bookies to open 🙂
Fuck!! Locus you bastard! I’m in the middle of watching the game right now and have been actively avoiding the radio or any discussion involving it, so i could watch it tonight!!! arrrrggghhhhhhh! Oh well, i was rooting for Spain anyway 🙂
And the lesson for today, boys and girls, is never go on the internet when you’re trying to avoid current news.
You’d think Pobra wouldn’t be on, seeing he’s busy washing his taint.
Amazing how dem Canadians can multi-task. 😉
Elliott
I am also carving a log, taming a moose and drinking six beers at once, all while playing an intense game of lacrosse, with a guitar and harmonica, typing this message and cleaning up the debris still left from the G20 summit.
Which part of Canada are you from Pobra, I’m in Saskatchewan 😦
Oh, you poor bastard. I’m an Ontario boy.
Lucky you! Hey if you ever did come to Saskatchewan, you could probably see me from the second you entered it, lol 😛
Ambidexterity is a bliss, with one hand he types with the other he washes the taint. Oh wait, this wasn’t one of my most well formulated phrases, was it? 😛
And we can add the word “taint” to the list of words not to say on this blog anymore. 🙂
And for what is surely to be one ot the most horrific trilogies in modern cinema
I saw the first one with my ex in the theatre. She loved it.I didn’t see the sequel.
Hey Ed, did you or anyone elsechere for that matter check this Hostel vid out….. to the end? If not you should. It’s killer!!!
folks pick on the kid but he kinda made the show entertaining when he was on
I’m still not sure how to change my profile pic on this blog
Just open an wordpress account and aside from making yourself a blog any pic you choose as a gravatar will show up here.
Hope that helps
Follow Deemar’s instructions and, if you’re like me, it won’t work half the time.
Welcome to my hell.
Just google “gravatar.” That’s how I figured it out.
You don’t need a wordpress account. go here http://en.gravatar.com/ and sign up.
thx for the tip, rush
question though;
once you’ve changed your avatar is it cusyomary thatwhere it says leave a reply here on the ccw blog that instead of showing in box one your;your e-mail,box two your blog or channel and box three the box for your message and istead just shows the leave a reply box with username?
watched this awhile ago, I was suprised at how laidback and nice Alan was to this kid.
Although we all know his “Crazy wizard” persona is just an act.
I was to given how pissed off he comes off in every interview I’ve read, especially when he talks about comic books now a days.
Yeah, and so was that worshipping of that snake god.
There’s a snake god in my pants.
LMAO!
That was a good one
I watched those a while back, they were great. He’s usually saying what most of us say here.
DOZENS of veteran porn stars cannot be wrong.
Shave responsibly.
You and my friend Philip would get along swimmingly. He always brings up his shaven ‘nads whenever he’s high. Which is pretty much all the time.
Overall POINT:
Women LOVE shaved nads.
Yeah, that’s what Philip always says.
This looks pretty decent.
🙂 🙂 still feeling my way through
Hey everyone,
Jose asked me to inform you that he’ll be getting the Mellow Monday post up once he has the power back on in his apartment.
I offered to do it myself, but he didn’t want me to post 3 Eagles songs in a row.
Carry on,
Elliott
Haha, Yeah I kept wondering what it was that didn’t get posted yet today…
IF I were you, I would post three Eagle songs in a row on my own as soon as he posts it and feels safe.
And what is wrong with Don Henley and Gle Frey? 🙂
sorry for missing the “n” 🙂
Awww, Phil… We know you’re just in love with your new avatar. (Sweet!) 😉
Elliot probably prefers the post Bernie Leadon Eagles 😛
I know three SOLO Henley songs you could have used and I bet you do too. Too close?
I just posted one of my faves on the Mellow Monday thread Insideman. Hit me back with one of yours.v 🙂
Elliott
Finally got to posting it, Elliott… I was busy fine tuning my new blog at http://www.swearallyoulike.com (Gawd.)
is there a tv show or hollywood project not going to comic con?
no wonder they want to move it to LA
It seems to be Scarlet is the talk of the town. My favorite part of all the coverage on blogs and comic book review sites is the recognition of Brian Michael Bendis’ recent failures like The Avengers, New Avengers, etc.
I find that quite funny.
J.
Welcome back J.
Ah, thank you. I am so glad this hellish weekend is behind me.
J.
Tedious.”
from the buy pile on cbr about scarlet
The buy pile on CBR is one of my least favorite things on CBR. His picks for buys seem to come out of left field for me for some reason.
hey mspot do me favor review the last cap issue for me i did the issue before that not sure if you saw it it was a couple of threads back
did you like the karl kesel 40’s newpaper strip thing? i did it was fun lighthearted gave it to one of my nephews for 4th of july
got get em addicted while they are young
Sure, Heres a mini one, it’s great to see the series back on track after the anti-climatic events of 605 even though I still think Reborn took some life out of series. I like the art style of Guice, and didn’t mind Breitweiser’s work, I enjoyed his work on Theater of War. Over all solid work.
I didn’t pick up the 40s strip because it was a mini so I thought I would wait for the trade on that one. But I heard it was a fun read.
Yeah, get them while their young just like the tobacco industry. He he.
The Buy Pile is an awful column, its like a world where good stuff is bad and bad stuff is great, it makes no fucking sense.
My Previews column on this very blog is much closer to the truth 😉
Speaking of which…when we going to get to read the new one? 🙂
J.
Previews only got delivered today so I’m making notes at the moment. Theres not a whole lot that looks great so far so it might be a short column 😛
My actual box of comics hasn’t even left the states yet, somehow the 4th of July holiday has caused a 2 week delay…that sounds like a McNiven level excuse to me 😛
I couldn’t agree more.
you guys taking offence at his writing or taste?
i think im the opposite of most fans i thought 2 americas was one of brubakers better works
i like buy pile because its a quick read
So is an issue of Jeph Loeb’s Hulk. Quick read or not, shit is shit regardless. It’s not even worth the “quick read” to me.
J.
Yeah but how about a “quick wipe”? I mean, in a pinch. 😉
I do too.
Some very very sad news today.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/07/12/harvey-pekar-dies-at-70/
J.
I saw Mr. Pekar on Letterman. It was entertaining, but awkward.
Oh, damn! That’s messed up.
Now to balance out the bad news with some very very funny stuff.
http://www.weeklycrisis.com/2010/07/how-bad-is-it-that-bad-parodies.html
J.
That was funny. I’ll have to do some of those for my blog 🙂
Yes, very funny. (How am I doing, Deemar?)
“You probably could have just used a laughing emoticon and gotten the same point across as using 4 whole words.”
I think that is what Deemar would say. 🙂
J.
Damn that Deemar and his need for visuals!
or
;-(
A
I’m like a proud Papa!
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
It’s a little bit of both, MSpot. Mostly crying for me– since I have read almost ALL of that shit.
By the way, to echo the above… Welcome back Jose. We were all worried about you getting a heat rash.
Thanks. It did suck but I got a lot of reading done. Read ‘Asterios Polyp’ last night and loved it.
J.
J.
So that’s what it’s about! Awesome, thanks J.
“It is not a challenging read per say but it does need you to bring some intellect to the table to fully comprehend it.”
Great! Where’s my Ginko?
Heh, you haven’t read it yet Insideman? I admittedly was late to the party on this book and Rush made me feel bad when he found out I hadn’t read it yet. Greendale will be next for me later this week.
J.
Yes! Thank you for reminding me about Greendale, I should really own that by now.
You’ll have to let me know what you think of it once you read it J, but I’ve already heard plenty of praise for it. Plus anything involving Neil Young has my interest sight unseen.
While I was “creating” a blog from a template– you snuck by me again. 😉
I am like a cyber ninja that way. Years of practice to master but not as difficult as it sounds.
J.
Fuck! Morrison is doing another event book, and just when he was getting on my good side again.
????? what is it?
Won’t know till Comic-Con. But rumor has it that he has one in the works, a multiverse comic with a lot of artists set to contribute.
I’m sorry, I didn’t give DC permission to bend me over today.
Yeah, can’t help but feel some trepidation when the words “Morrison” and “multiverse” come up in the same sentence.
Yeah, I’ll be skipping that.
Sider as DC would say “Baby I like it raw!”
Kinda like Seven Soldiers? And we all know how that turned out.
J.
ooops, sorry about the double post. Jose! come clean up my mess. 🙂
First you taint the blog, now you mess it up? Tisc tisc tisc 😛
you’ll get used to it. 😉
I did a thing on the lack of plausiblity in super hero comics and comics related things i.e movies and t.v.http://pmktwelve.blogspot.com/2010/07/comics-logically-illogical-or.html
If anyone gets a chance let me know what you think.
http://pmktwelve.blogspot.com/2010/07/comics-logically-illogical-or.html
Ya, this kinda sucks. Did you read the response?
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/07/11/edward-nortons-agent-puts-their-side-of-the-hulk-story-across/
J.
Lame.
That fella is sharp tongued fer sure, but subtle like a truck.
Yeah, THAT decision was definitely more trouble than it was worth.
Kevin Feige caught that Quesada virus
I liked Down in the Valley a lot. Norton was pretty great in it.
J.
Oops… Didn’t see your post MSpot.
I’d take Sharlto Copley as Banner, he’s has that nerdy scientist look plus he can play tormented pretty well.
Although I think Norton made the perfect Bruce Banner, to bad He and Marvel have bad blood.
I like Norton as Banner though. 😦
Well, at least Jermey Renner is in it. The Hurt Locker was awesome.
couldn’t agree more
Marvel would fuck up a wet dream.
Who didn’t see this coming?
Moody actor + Marvel = fail
Now, this is just ridiculous.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/07/12/a-phoenix-for-the-smashes-is-joaquin-the-new-hulk/
That made me “ha.”
J.
Well welcome back J, Elliot did ya proud.
Actually, I read his posts from when I was gone and I beg to differ. 😛
J.
🙂
Of course you would!
🙂
So how was your caveman weekend, had to switch to the spank bank?
And speaking of “a quick heart attack” I once had a dermatologist tell me that people with my skin condition have been known to DIE immediately after they jumped into a cold body of water.
J.
The you definitely wouldn’t have wanted to date some of the women I have had the misfortune of hooking up with. Your dick would break off!
Your both mutants of some sort.
This comment made me laugh a bit more than I should have.
J.
Laugh or a Hisss?
Kind of like the Wicked Witch of The West. He he.
To be fair, I think the WWotW had to even refrain from “water sports” as well. I have the luxury of dabbling in them if I so choose. 🙂
J.
Fair enough. 🙂
You have a skin condition? May I ask what it is?
Hopefully it ain’t the herp.
Ha!
That or bitten by a radioactive fanboy.
I don’t know what the exact term for it is but whenever my skin gets too cold it breaks out in hives. The colder it is the worse it gets.
J.
That was pretty damn classy. Too bad Marvel does not even know the definition of the word.
J.
Yes, that is a little bit of bullshit. For those of you who would like more info on what Venom is talking about here is a link.

Sounds like a country album.
Heh, that was actually a kinda funny observation.

Hey Jose, good to see ya back, so just out of curiosity, what happened with all of your food last wknd?
It all pretty much died. Just binned it all this morning.
J.
😦 Well, at least you survived and are still here 🙂
Look out for “Who will wield the Cowl”
I would rather buy Who Will Wield (read Spank) the Clown, would be far funnier!
Clowns aren’t funny
😦
Exactly right Dee! BLONDE CHICKS are funny 😉
Loeb resembles that comment 🙂
So ready for this flick, Trejo deserves a movie he doesn’t die in.
So I take it you’ve seen Predators.
Yep, Danny should get an honorary Oscar for dying on film so much.
So overall was Predators any good, D?
FINALLY, Mexicans have a bad ass role model. Till now we have only had El ChapulÃn Colorado to look up to…and to a lesser extent El Santo.
J.
Heh, well Machete is definately a step up.
Plus ya got Zorro
Uh, hello, Ricardo Montalban was Mexican. It doesn’t get more bad ass than Khan.
If you say so.
J.
Sure but his Badassery was negated bt Tattoo
Man I do love El Chapulin (and El Chavo del Ocho). That was a great show. I guess I know what I will watch tomorrow
Es la verdad, Luiz!
J.
