  1. Insideman says:

Well, I finally got the Namora #1 review done to today Jose:

And it looks like the EW issue will be here tomorrow– damn it. But I’ll let you know what’s up. If you haven’t found out already!

  2. rush says:

Ah starting the CCW Weekend Open Thread with good music, perfect. I’m shopping for and preping music as I’m typing this. 🙂

  3. rush says:

prepping this one in Ableton live right now.

  4. rush says:

    just bought this one

  5. rush says:

Also, I just bought Sia vs. Chris Lake – Drink To Get Drunk and Digby & Oliver – Human on vinyl.

  6. one of my faveorite animes of all time.

      • rush says:

Are you going to see or have seen Evangalion:1.11?

      • Luiz de Mello says:

I loved the original series (I too didn’t see the released parts of the remake yet). And that song just rocks, one of my favs for a long time.

      • Mike F says:

Every time I play this song, my roommate (whose from Japan) gets annoyed cause she thinks its too “geeky” haha. I guess back home the people who watched this show were drastically different from everyday geeks…

        • Luiz de Mello says:

Wait, Japanese people who are not Geeky? I thought they were a myth! I bet she felt out of place, and given that it seems she is not there anymore, it is highly likely 😉

Now, seriously, Eva does have an aura of nerdness/geekness(?)/alien. It starts with Japanese cliche (teens + giant robots + a hot older chick + government/political stuff) and then start introducing more and more questioning and more refined subtext, each episode a bit more, till the last two that seems that a lot of people seem to have problems to understand anything from them (or from the OVAs that ‘explain’ them).

But if you ask me, that ‘aura’ just makes it better

          • Mike F says:

            Eva is a great show.

But the truth is, most Japanese people aren’t even aware of anime names or manga names. And if they are, they are not open about it. In Japan, people can risk losing their job by being openly “geeky” or an open “geek.” Its a small community of Japan that is considered “otaku” and its still a serious thing, since a lot of people don’t wanna be open about. Well this is what she’s told me, and from sites and articles I’ve seen.

But yeah, I love EVA and she said that when it first came out in Japan, it only aired after midnight so she rarely saw it…

  7. my-KEY says:

any1 else gonna get the dc universe online game

  8. Insideman says:

Jose– that $39.99 Realm of Kings HC coming out next week? That fucker will be sold out in a flash.

We discussed this briefly on here one time. I believe these huge Marvel compilation hardcovers are low printed– so Marvel can say they offered a fairly low cost all-in-one solution… And then they are quickly pushed out of the way to make way for the INDIVIDUAL hardcovers and graphic novels– that all cost more COMBINED then the original HC did.
The big HCs always fly… Then two months later everyone who wanted it– but waited for it– get frantic. So the fuckers sell for minimum $70 each (or more) until the individual books come out… and sometimes even after that.

  9. MicahSkin says:

Well, tomorrow I get to pick up a porn star from the airport, and drive ’em to the bar I work at for a personal appearance.

    How’s y’all’s weekend shaping up?

  10. rush says:

Just watched Batman: Under the Red Hood, it is good. Winnick has done a great job here. His Joker is especially memorable for me. Those folks at Marvel need to take notes on how to make an animated feature.

  11. MyComicLife says:

hey….just came back from watching INCEPTION. all i got to say is WOW. Christopher Nolan seems to be getting better and better. i must say that this movie did not follow the ordinary kind of story telling techniques that most movies do, but yet it was executed in such a good way. I mean the movie is 2 and a half hrs long, but it felt like i watched an 1 hr long movie.
Here is a movie where the effects actually work for the film and are not the main star, unlike other movies (avatar and transformers).
just do urself a favour and watch it, just to appreciate Nolan’s determination to push his creativity to the next level and try something different and challenge himself.
because as we all know they r other creators out there who just take the easy way out, dress up a shitty story with sex, unnecessary violence and special effects, and u get urself a blockbuster movie which will bring u millions.

  12. phil says:

Uatu, the Watcher and myself have a prposition for all ccw nationers who are interested. Make up three lists. List one; name your favorite 3, 5, or 10 comicbook artists

list two name who you believe to the “best” for those that don’t draw a distinction between best and fave, in my eyes fave is simply who you like the most, where best… you might or might not like the artist, but you can’t just deny his/her talent.

list three; a list of your least favorite artists, necessarily the worst, but just folks that you have a serious disdain/dislike for

Uatu says “be there or be square”
    Here’s my lists

  13. phil says:

    hmmm. odd?!??!!

  14. kurumais says:

hey where is avi’s wonder woman redesign?
speaking of redesigns i like this site called project rooftop they post a lot alternate takes on characters from both pros and fans they just finishe a black canary redesign competition and start a cap and cap related one. its a fun site to check out once a month or so

    • phil says:

Kuru, I just peeped the site out, and well after a few minutes of inner dialogue, I subscribed to its feed. Good catch. From what I saw early on, the only redesign I actually liked was NightThrashers. I liked the drawing of WW, but the design looked like she was a hooker from the Jack the Ripper days
There was a nice Black Canary drawing, yet I’m of the belief that fishnets are very hard to pull off ( insert joke here ) Black Canary”s 1st costume and Zatana’s magician outfit were the only fishnetted suits that I thought worked.

Anyway, I digress. Thx again for hipping me to this site, I’m sure to be a regulaar visitor

      • kurumais says:

np phil i like redesigns if i were running a comic publisher i would have a similar thing on my website im sure most pros doodle with redesigns especially when they talk shop

  15. cballsack says:

I am very much looking forward to the CCW review of the Justin Bieber comic book.

  16. Locusmortis says:

    Utterly Epic!

  17. generaldark says:

does anybody have advice on how to lose feelings for a girl?….

  18. Mike F says:

    Sickest beat ever?

  19. Venom829 says:

So I was redaing that DC is publishing Warren Ellis banned Hellblazer story with 96 pgs of artwork, and then I saw the price, $8! EIGHT BUCKS!!!!!!!!!! YIKES!

  20. phil says:

Hey Jose, is there a Major Bummer trade?
And I’ve been waiting for DC to put out Legion trade covering the Cockrum issues,.Any trade info there?

    thx in advance, either way

  21. vegedge says:

jose any idea when the amazing screw on head hardcover comesout? cant find any info online about it.

amazing screw on head and other curious object.

or the marquis and the midwife. both books darkhorse announced and havent mentioned since

  22. Pobra says:

does anyone else remember Wesley Willis? lol

  23. phil says:

I’m not sure what direction that it’s going in,but Batman’s new creative team has me intrigued. Tomasi from the little that I’ve read of his is a pretty decent writer and Gleason whose work was okay on Aquaman and skyrocketed to slammin’ on GLcorps are the new creative team on B & R (although many of u probably knew that already)

While I’m no fan of Bruce returning, I’m definitely jazzed about Gleason handling art chores. His Batman who cameoed in Aquaman was the best I had seen since Bolland had done the character in The Killing Joke And while I’ll miss Quitely’s take, I’m sure Gleason will knock it outta the park 😉

    • Deemar says:

Its a good team, and it’s not the usually suspects.

    • Morlock50 says:

Maybe it’s me, but I’m so fucking bored with Batman right now. Doesn’t really matter who the creative team is either. Maybe Morrison can pull something out of his ass that will knock me for a loop, but I don’t think there is anything that can be done for the character that will make me interested

      • Insideman says:

Not even THIS, Morlock??? Let’s all do the “BATUSI” Dance:

        • cballsack says:

I’ve had a question about this: how are they allowed to use the Batman name in the title of this movie?

          • Insideman says:

Porn– like any medium– is protected under parody laws. Copyright law allows a person or company the right to parody an entertainment property ONE time… So, while the same producers are moving on to a Superman and other super-hero porn films, etc… This particular XXX company won’t be legally allowed to make Batman 2: Dildo Boogaloo.

That’s why Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer get away with all their bullshit. So obviously, there exists good and bad examples of this law in action. 🙂

            • cballsack says:

I didn’t realize parody laws extended to using the same title. That strikes me as being potentially confusing. So you’re saying that Marvel could put out a one issue comic called Batman?

              • Insideman says:

Yeah. As long as it was labeled a parody and was clearly a parody. One time use only, though.

                • Edward2962 says:

I remember Marvel lawyers sending Dave Sim a warning when he used Wolveroach (Wolverine parody) on three covers of Cerebus in a row.

                  • Insideman says:

Yeah… It also comes down to the rights holder’s sense of humor about the parody too. New Line got away with one Austin Power film. Then grumbling started with the release of the second film… And by the 3rd one, New Line was putting out some serious fires… and by “putting out some serious fires” I mean “New Line ended up changing Goldmember’s release date and paying a lot of money to MGM”.

        • Deemar says:

          I’m gonna own that, yeah.

        • phil says:

I don’t know if anything can top Sex Trek as the ultimate porn parody!!

        • Morlock50 says:

          I…..stand corrected.

  24. TheMSpot says:

    movies I’ve seen recently:

    Despicable me, was cute.

    Inception, was mind blowing.

and Dragon Ball: Evolution, was nasty crap.

  25. TheMSpot says:

No, that’s not dirty at all, not at all.

  26. Heck says:

I guess Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords is rumored to play the villain in Men in Black 3.

I really like Jemaine, it’ll make me see the flick.

  27. Morlock50 says:

Anybody else not loving Birds of Prey right now? First issue sucked, and the other two haven’t improved at all. Benes’s art is giving me a headache and all the magic from the earlier run seems to be gone this time. So Gail left Wonder Woman for this shit? I don’t get it.

    • phil says:

The colorist is taking away from Benes’ line work and replacing it with a more painterly effect, which dulls the pencil work he’s done. But yeah I’m not loving it.

    • I didn’t even buy the third issue Morlock. What a dissapointment that title turned out to be.

      • Fallows1985 says:

I’ve kind of enjoyed this run mainly cos I haven’t read any of Birds of Prey so its all new to me. Had to laugh at Penguin’s dream sequence with the Birds lol

  28. Insideman says:

Jose, since I no nothing about Manga– is this good or bad?

    • I think the trailer looks good. Don’t know if the movie will have the hyper violence or massive bewbage of the manga though.

So when you going to start reading some of that manga, hmmmm? Or are you still too busy loving your Dark Reign trades? 🙂

      • Insideman says:

I’ll have you know I read a House of Mystery “Beauty of Decay” trade and the Daredevil: “Return of the King” trade yesterday too.

“All Dark Reign All the Time” would be a foundation– and an explanation– for violent suicide. 😉

        • Did you pick up the Agents of Atlas Versus HC last week?

          • Insideman says:

Yes, I did… The one with the X-Men cover. I hope to have it tomorrow. 🙂

That’s the same HC as the Agents of Atlas Versus HC (with the AVENGERS cover) that’s coming out THIS WEEK, right? (Same interior contents, different cover.)

You can NEVER be too sure with 3 GL HCs coming out EVERY FUCKING WEEK.

And can I read it without screwing my Dark Reign reading timeline up? Also, can I read the Captain America Reborn bullshit (just read “Road to Reborn”, a massive waste of paper) if I haven’t finished reading the “Dark Reign” stuff yet?

I already know Steve Rogers is the head of a new espionage agency (“Blase, Blase, Blase…” as Elliott would say)… so I don’t care about learning about that… I just want to see how Brubaker works this.

            • Ya, it’s the same HC. You can read the Atlas HC with messing up your reading timeline.

I had somebody who has bought all of the Blackest Night HC’s ask me yesterday “What is the best order to read them in?”

Man, was that a pain in the ass to explain. He was happy I knew the answer though so it was worth it.

              • Insideman says:

OK… Why don’t you throw ME a bone… I’d like to know my damn self!

BTW either EW or the USPS fucked me again yesterday or I would have told you the news.

Either way, I don’t feel like googling this BUFFY shit either… As I see no reason to INVITE an ass-fucking. I’ll just let it arrive in my box unexpectedly.

I’ll be sure to scream when it gets in.

              • Insideman says:

I’m gonna read that CAP then and the Atlas book… Thanks!

If you are nice enough to take the time to tell me the proper BN HC reading order, I promise to read 2 Manga series YOU recommended before I read one GL book!

                “Welcome to Barter Town, Max.”

                • Well, this is how I think you should read them (not counting next week’s HC. I’ll need to figure that out when I see what’s actually in them). Read the first half of Blackest Night, then read the first halves of the GL volume, GLC volume and all of Black Lantern Corps Vol 1. After that read up to the end of issue #7 in the Blackest Night HC. Read all the rest of the other volumes followed by all of Black Lantern Corps Vol 2 and end with the last issue in the Blackest Night HC.

                  You’re welcome Captain Walker.

                  • Insideman says:

I guess it would kill DC or Marvel to release these things in order. I SWEAR I would pay extra for special volumes that printed the comic books IN the ACTUAL ORDER THEY APPEARED so that they wouldn’t spoil the timeline in the main book.

Marvel & DC pay a PITTANCE for reprint rights… So what difference would it make if they mixed the different author’s stories? I was reading a Marvel HC the other day that had a separate page that announced” “This takes place after ______. Please read ______ before this if you don’t want spoilers.” I can’t remember which book– but I thought the notice was very classy.

Of course, I could always ask you for free… but that would get old. 😉

And I am always down for an “obscure” Mad Max reference. Always.

George Miller called and wants his idea for “Saw” and the ending of Terminator II back.)

                  • Insideman says:

I’ve printed out your explanation and stuck it in between the books on one of the DC shelves.

Don’t be surprised if I ask again next week. 😉

    • mitiators says:

The cartoon series was pretty sweet.

    • kurumais says:

looks good not sure something as trippy and complex as gantz could work as a movie lets hope the director is up to it
      where’s the pup btw?

  29. vegedge says:

    anyone been watching being human?

it has been filling in for my doctor who withdrawls the last weeks.

british horror /scifi is unusually good

    • Deemar says:

I’ve seen the first season, pretty damn good.

      • i watch being human it’s amazing definately a good sc-fi show by the bbc what series are you at and who’s your favourite character i biased but it’s mitchell partly beacause i most likely want to be a vampire and he’s the most famous aidan i can think of.

    • kurumais says:

i watched the first season i liked despite this type of show not being my cup of tea
i like george i get a kick out of him
lenora crichow who plays annie is a cutie pie

you know sinead keenan that plays george’s girlfriend nina? is it me or does she look like she has a touch of dwarfism?
he was also in dr who end of time

  30. Can anyone tell me what some good mangas are? I’m getting sick of Shonen Jump manga. Too much same old, same old right now. Not that Shonen Jump is bad, but I’d like to expand my horizons when it come to manga. Thanks!

    • Edward2962 says:

I’m not an expert the way alot folk here are but I liked Appleseed and of course Akira.

And to piggyback on Dude’s question…what does anyone think of Adam Warren ( I know he’s not manga but manga influenced) ? I’ve seen some of his Dirty Pair stuff and when I slowly got back into comics, I came across one of his Gen 13 comics, but not sure I’ve seen anything he’s done recently…

    • Hey Dude. I’m at work right now but I’ll answer your question when get home tonight.

    • Insideman says:

comicbookdude… to possibly help Jose out… Here’s the one’s he recommended to me just about 6 weeks ago:

Akira, Battle Angel Alita, Battle Angel Alita:Last Order, Battle Royale, Blade of the Immortal, Bleach, Cannon God Exaxxion, Gantz,Gunsmith Cats, Gunsmith Cats: Burst, Ikigami, Monster, Old Boy, Pluto, Silent Mobius and 20th Century Boys

Other posters (Mike F and others) recommended:

Biomega, Black Lagoon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ikigami, MPD Psycho and Vagabond

And the Air Gear, Strawberry 100% and Battle Club series were all recommended as “great for fan service”.

I’ve picked up these on my own cause I liked the descriptions and sound of the art:

Astral Project, Death Note, Dogs, Maximum Ride, Monster, Ninja Girls, Path of the Assassin, Peace Maker, Peace Maker: Kurogane, Shaman Warrior and Zone 00

If you have a hard time finding these at your LCS– please check out my Blog Post on my great fortune with Books-A-Million (or BAMM for the search engines). They had MOST of the above books in stock… And they always have tons of 20% Off coupons!

JOSE– What I wanted to know– can recommended any MORE Manga series that might still be available in print… As I have a little extra shelf space… And about SIX unused BAMM coupons. 😉

      • Insideman says:

        Jose, I meant can YOU recommend… Jeez…

        • Have you picked up Empowered? I don’t know if I ever mentioned that to you. It’s done by Adam Warren and even though he is American it is very much manga. There are 5 volumes out so far from Dark Horse. Another one Locus reminded me of was Maison Ikkoku. It’s easily my favorite Rumiko Takahashi series. There are 15 volumes to that series. How about Domu? It’s done by Katsuhiro Otomo. There is only one volume for it and Dark Horse published it. And if you have never read it it I would recommend Appleseed (as Edward mentioned above) too. There are 4 volumes for that.

Also make sure you preorder Bakuman and Cross Game.

      • Mike F says:

That’s a lot of material there you know. May take a while just to get through 6 or 7 of those books. But if you really want more, try xxxHolic. Its fun.

      • Insideman says:

BTW– Locusmortis made me think of ANOTHER point… The books I mention in my first post above are all available at reasonable prices… As I have compiled them in just the last 6-8 weeks. That’s important to know because I lot of COMPLETE Manga series are very hard– if not impossible– to find.

      • Thanks Insideman! I will definitely look for most of these titles soon!

    • Mike F says:

One name: Naoki Urasawa. He’s literally the Alan Moore/Grant Morrison/Ed Brubaker/Matt Fraction of Japan. All of his work man. I can’t praise him enough.

Its mature, its original, its clever, its fun, its relatable, translatable, impeccable.

      • Locusmortis says:

The manga already quoted by the posters above are for the most part great but Manga isn’t all about gunfights, demons, robots and body horror either. I’ve always had a yen (get it huh huh?) for the wacky hi-jinks stuff and off beat comedy stuff like Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, Love Hina, Video Girl Ai etc and currently I’ve been getting into Suzuka by Kouji Seo and Nononono by Lynn Okamoto.

        • Insideman says:

I totally agree with you, LM.

Problem is… I can’t find a complete set of Love Hina… Especially if I want them “new”… and I have tried, tried, tried. I’m not saying the copies don’t exist (just that I can’t find them for reasonable prices) and I would be pleasantly surprised if they were.

I appreciate books I can look out for– in case they are possibly reprinted in the future– but I would also like titles I could get today or tomorrow– without having to pay $79.95 for the three out-of-print volumes in the run.

I’m a political junkie… So when Jose told me about EAGLE (The Making of a Japanese American President) I was so THERE… Except you can’t find the books. There was another series about a Japanese HIT MAN that everyone seemed to love (can’t remember the name– for all I know, it was “Hit Man”)but I could only find 4 volumes out of 9. That’s NOT going to cut it for a completest like me.

I’ve told Jose over and over how hard it has been to find all the books in the series I DO have… It’s crazy how the publishers do NOT keep them available.

          • Locusmortis says:

is a great site for testing out manga before you buy. its handy for filling in gaps as well.

A series I forgot, Kimi no Iru Machi is one of those bittersweet love triangle (more like love dodecahedron) comedies that the japanese do so well, I hope one of the american manga publishers picks it up.

        • Mike F says:

I have nothing against that stuff, I just don’t read it. So I can’t really comment.

When it comes to that, I do anime. Shows like LUCKY STAR or FULL METAL PANIC have that humor and it just feels funnier when its acting not read. I prefer my manga to be more serious I guess. But, the series you mentioned aren’t bad at all.

  31. phil says:

There’s been much hubub about Mel Gibson of late. Does anyone see his career as being actively kaput? Or is this just a bump in the road until the next big thing comes along?
Myself, I can’t see how he can recover. Even were he able to make Passion @ featuring Gerard Butler as a ressurected p.o’d Christ, to me it looks like …stick a fork in him, he’s done!

    • Edward2962 says:

Mel has offended gays, jews, and blacks (hispanics?)..but some ppl will always forgive celebrities. To this day you have some women who stick up for R. Kelly and Chris Brown. I think if Mel lays low for 5 yrs then limits his movie rolls to cameos at first, ppl will forget and he MIGHT be able to make a comeback in ala Travolta in some hipster blockbuster.

      • phil says:

I don’t know ED. I know this guy’s standing isn’t anywhere near Mel’s, but Michael Richards isn’t exactly having the welcome back mat rolled out for him. And for the sports enthusiasts out there, Jimmy the Greek never really recovered either.

Of course Woody Allen can take a child bride and nary a word is about that. Go figure, huh?

        • Edward2962 says:

For what it’s worth, I’m pretty sure my ex STILL hates Woody for his transgression.

Richards..yeah,he really wasn’t doing much before then.If he hadn’t said the N-Word, ppl would be like “What ever happened to Kramer?”

But,Dog the bounty hunter said the N-word, went on Sharpton’s radio show and apologized and folks quickly got over it. His show is still on, he’s doing ok, I guess…

          • phil says:

to be fair though, while Dog probably has aloyal fan base, he doesn’t come close to the notriety of Mel or Michael for that matter.

          • Insideman says:

I know I’m not CUTTING Roman Polanski any favors– even if the rest of the world seems to be ready to forgive him for raping a VERY underage girl.

      • Deemar says:

Mel Gibson should pee on R. Kelly and R. Kelly should Beat Chris Brown and Chris Brown should Pee & Beat Mel Gibson.

        Problem solved

    • Insideman says:

Mel’s done. He was dropped by his talent agency last week– and would have been dropped after the anti-semetic slurs surfaced but his agent (same agent for his entire career) was still alive. His agent died in the last ten days… Now Mel’s gone from the agency.

Mel also looks like shit. All the drinking and smoking have taken their toll… So I don’t see him making a massive comeback in 5 years a la Travolta because– if anything– he’ll be too old.

Too bad too… Because before all this happened I really, really liked the guy. I heard the second set of tapes and could tell he REALLY felt betrayed by that woman– but just sat there with my jaw slack when he used his disgust WITH HER as an excuse to drop the “n” word. So unnecessary.

I could tell you lots and lots about how good a guy Mel is… But I don’t believe ANYBODY would believe me NOR would they even want to hear it… And frankly I DO NOT blame them.

There is NO excuse for what he’s done. His father is BATSHIT CRAZY (for one, the old man believes the HOLOCAUST NEVER HAPPENED!) and unfortunately I think Mel’s gone down the same bad road.

And, from what I understand– two NEW “Mad Max’ films now proceed WITHOUT HIM.

      • Edward2962 says:

Yeah,I dunno…I’m just imagining some scenario where down the road some indie director might cast him in some flick as “crazy uncle joe” or “mobster boss #2” where he’s in it for 10 mins but he gets some good lines and folks are like “didn’t he used to be Mel Gibson?”. Or some Tarantino type situation where he’s in some sleeper hit. Hollywood had written off Pam Greer and David Carradine until Quentin sang their praises.

        • Insideman says:

I get that idea. Anything’s possible in Hollyweird.

The man has also made over $700 MILLION on the “Passion of the Christ” (and there’s more coming in every day).

He is also producing his OWN movies to star in… So there always that.

As far as the crazy goes… He’s filming “The Beaver” right now. Directed by Jodie Foster, the movie stars Gibson as a man who talks to a beaver hand puppet… Virtually through the whole film.

          Crazy enough for ya?;-)

        • Insideman says:

BTW– Pam Greer didn’t do anything to anybody… People just stopped hiring her until QT came along. I can tell you from first hand experience that David Carradine was a certified nut– having worked with him a couple of times later in his career. He had a rep– and a bad one until QT “rehabilitated” it and being remembered David could be a great actor too. He was also a decent guy underneath and had really seemed to have gotten his act together… And then that silly, untimely death.

I can guarantee you that’s NOT the way he would want to be remembered… But he always had a problem with “doing the time” if he did the crime… So he was always headed toward a reckless kind of death. Going out in his sleep was NOT going to be his way. 😉

          • Edward2962 says:

I understand. I was just trying to say that the general public tends to say “That’s that guy that used to be famous” and forgive or forget any past failing if the right vehicle comes along. Hell,Pam’s comeback should’ve been with Above the Law with Steven Siegal.

Uh,David was in an episode of Even Stevens with his brother along with Shia LaBeuf (sp) who’s now filming Transformers 3 in Chicago which is tying up traffic until tomorrow. I’m not saying,I’m just saying…

            • You live in the area Edward? Did I know that?

              • Edward2962 says:

Yes,sir..I do. I meant it last week when I said I know what it’s like to have the power go out and the authorities put you on hold. I used to live on the west side, now I live uptown ( prince music ).

If you ever want to talk about police brutality, graft, ghost pay roll, white sox, brauts, gentrification, or ethnic conflict…I’m yer guy. (I think Chi-town’s own Jesse J is in the news again…)

Bringing it back to comics, didn’t Thor live here for Five minutes in the mid-80’s? I’m pretty sure mid 80’s Blue Beetle did. I’m happy if modern Blue gets a TV series too bad Ted didn’t…

    • IronMuskrat says:

Mel is done in Hollywood, they have never forgiven him for the ‘Passion of the Christ'(silly Mel, don’t you know Christianity doesn’t sell these days.. Oh wait…) But I do believe he has his own production company, so there is always that, producing or directing his own movies.

      My prediction..

Mel throws whatever money he has left at Oksana Grigorieva to make her go away, cuts a deal with her to drop the charges against him. then it’s a snit in rehab, maybe Opra and the rounds of all of the talk shows to talk about his recovery and the all of the awful things in his life that turned him into a racist dirtbag, woman beater. Then he fly’s back to Australia and lies low for a few years, and then makes a comeback of sorts, making movies on his own.

      or something like that..

      • Insideman says:

I think Mel will fund more of his OWN projects before then. One self-funded film shot in January and will be released this fall, I believe. He has a THRIVING production company called ICON and he can literally do whatever he wants… As long as he’s willing to pay for it… At least for now.

One thing I left out of my comment up above. IF Mel does fund his own movies and one of them HITS BIG… No matter what he’s said or done… Most of Hollywood will be falling all over themselves to bring him back on board.

        Money… It’s THAT simple.

        • IronMuskrat says:

You speak the truth Insideman… all it will take is one hit movie. I don’t know if he will be forgiven, but he will certainly be allow back to the table.

      • Deemar says:

        So the Tom Cruise package?

I gotta say Mel Gibson was a favorite of mine, but damn the guy has some serious rage.

Sucks when people you used to admire let ya’ down.

        • Insideman says:

It is NO EXCUSE but since these people are coddled all the time IN PRIVATE… It’s a no-brainer that they ALL will EVENTUALLY show their asses (or tue sides) IN PUBLIC.

It’s funny to watch people like Katherine Heigl. Woman can’t EVEN PRETEND to be nice. Some actress she is!

You want to talk about somebody who is almost DONE…

  32. and we call ourselves civilised huh?

  33. mbell028 says:

hey has anybody here read Jeff Parker’s book Spider-man and the Fantastic Four? I found online for pretty cheap but I don’t if it’s good or not. Figured I can’t go wrong with Jeff Parker

  34. Insideman says:

Jose, when you get back from the movie– can you also tell me if I can read Agents of Atlas: Turf War HC without screwing the Dark Reign stuff?(I have a feeling I can by the way Parker writes– especially this series.)

Sorry to ask another question so shortly after the Manga one above– but as far as Jeff Parker goes… With all your praise, you really brought this curiosity explosion (and the barrage of Parker questions) onto yourself. 😉

    • Ya, I am 85% sure you can read turf wars without ruining your Dark Reign experience. But if you want a 100% certain answer I can let you know tomorrow afternoon. I have to go into work early because the owner has something to do in the morning and I can flip through it then.

As for your manga question I’ll answer it in a bit.

  35. vegedge says:

    so ATLAS is done with?

comic book resources reported on it…
when will this book ever catch a break.
this is the 3rd time now one has ended.

i wonder if its cancelled or hiatus. (like the damn iron fist hiatus…)

    • IronMuskrat says:

I think ATLAS is done as a monthly title, Atlas was Jeff Parker’s baby, and I think it was his efforts that kept bring the book back from the brink. Now that Jeff has said it was ‘his’ decision this time to kill the book I don’t see any hope for a regular Atlas book in the future.

Of course that won’t stop Jeff from tossing Atlas a guest appearance in his other books =)

      • Luiz de Mello says:

I wonder if any of the Atlas will appear on TB, maybe become a regular appearance. I think there are is a lot of potential for it to happen, maybe not now but soon.

Btw, deviating a bit from the topic, from a creative standpoint gunning the title himself makes a lot of sense. Since he knows that it will be canceled sooner or later, setting the death date himself gives him absolute control of how the story goes from beginning to end.

Had he not done that, chances are that when the cancellation notice came out he would have to either fill or compress the last arc he had planned. Or worst, he would start writing on the safe side (meaning mediocre stories that are can be easily compressed/expanded whenever it is canceled). But he has absolute control, so he can make Atlas’ last hurray be an actual hurray, instead of those mental farts a lot of books get when they are canceled (Ms. Marvel anyone?)

Now that I think of it my respect for him just grows. Not only he knows how to play his game very well, but also when it is time to fold a hand and leave the table earlier.

  36. Would you guys like me to open an Inception open thread? If enough people say yes I will do so.

  37. Have any of you guys read Monkeyman and O’Brien by Art Adams? If you haven’t yet I highly recommend it. Great story, amazing art, and cool characters.

  38. Elliott told me today he will be taping CCW TV without me while he is in San Diego. As for my replacement? CCW TV fans will probably love Elliott’s new co-host but will only then be let down when they see me again the following week.

    • Insideman says:

      Huh? Fuck it.

San Diego IS becoming the NEW Vegas.

What happens in San Diego SHOULD STAY in San Diego!

At least that’s how I always felt about the strippers and ladies I met at the clubs, or bars… Amazingly while they were ALL dancing on TOP OF TABLES…

    • cballsack says:

Who is his new co-host? Zac Efron?

  39. Heck says:

Scott Pilgrim tomorrow. You can cut my anticipation with a spork!

    • We’ve had copies sitting in our backroom at the comic shop for a few days now waiting for Tuesday’s release. Would it be uncool of me to say a flipped through the first couple of chapters?

      • mbell028 says:

yeah I’m ordering it on with a couple of other books it’s kinda frustrating because in order to get free shipping I have to wait until after it’s released to order it otherwise i have to pay an extra $15 it’s pretty ridiculous. I think I got some pretty good books though so I think it’ll be worth the wait

      • Heck says:

Any good J? Worth the wait?

  40. So, is Childrens Hospital the best new show ever?

    • mbell028 says:

eh i watched the episode they have online it wasn’t bad I thought the jeffrey ross stuff was kinda annoying I guess I’ll have to check out another episode. There’s a ton of great talent on the show

  41. cballsack says:

Love this costume. Wish I’d thought of it.

    • kurumais says:

i cant wait for this flick i love the goon

    • kurumais says:

iwatchstuff has some good trailer besides the goon the fan made god of war if it was done by wes anderson was terrific and i loved the campy craziness of sharktopus

  42. Insideman says:

Amazon has a Transformers (ugh) video game as their GOLD BOX deal of the day today… and the rest of the Lightning Deals in the Gold Box will be discounted games… In case anybody wants to check!

  43. Mr.Wrestling says:

So watching some other comic reviewers on youtube has made me realize that outside of CCW, most reviews are just terrible. They never try new things and only seem to praise whatever top book Marvel or DC is pushing on them.

Like I just watched a video today where the guy had Doomwar #5 and Paul Cornell’s Action Comics as the worst books of the week. Ripped them both apart.

  44. Dre says:

Did anyone get Turf #2? If so, how was it comparison to the first?
