Fuck I need some sleep. What I meant to say was thinking of picking up The Marvels Project, was wondering if anyone read it, and if it was worth picking or avoiding.
Jose, I picked up volume 2 and 3 of Vagabond yesterday. Couldn’t find vol. 1, though 😦
I also found Trigun vol. 1 for .50 cents. It’s fairly beat up, but still it looked good enough to buy it for that much. Have you ever read Trigun?
For those of you who have not read Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. are doing an extreme diservice to yourself. Also I’m reading DD#505 and Diggle takes the scene from DD: Man Without Fear#1, where an arrow is split in half by another arrow. That was such a geeky observation 🙂
Yes, that Captain Britain, Atlas, and to a certain extent Ghost Rider all great, fun readers that were cancelled way to soon. There are a few others they just don’t come to mind right now.
To me it’s a curse AND a blessing. The blessing is that we are wowed by these awesome comics that we really enjoy, but the curse is they get taken away from us way too soon.
I tend to look on the bright side of things 🙂 I’ve had to do that my whole life.
I don’t like the writing in Bendis’ Avenger books AT ALL. However I do like Romita, Jr. and Immonen’s art. But no way on God’s blue and green earth am I gonna plunk down $4 for a Bendis Avenger book.
I agree with you, but I hear Bendis has an upcoming Avengers mini with art by Alan Davis….I may have to buy it, unless they’re all sitting around eating pizza in the first issue.
The first issue of it is already out. I read it and it wasn’t very good. The art was great, but once again Bendis COMPLETELY ignores continuity just so he can tell his story. My advice is: save your money and don’t buy it.
Actually, I saw the issue and flipped though it at my LCS today. You’re right. There wasn’t anything interesting going on, so I put it back on the rack.
I will say though, I did like the scene where Steve Rogers fought all of the goblins, but IMO the rest of the book was pointless bickering. Seeing Tony Stark sit down fixing his armor not talking like the Stark I know and love in IIM was painful.
But trying to figure out where exactly this story takes place is even more painful, I guess…
wow I totally mis-interpreted your comment D. Wouldn’t that be funny if we started loving Bendis’ Avenger books and they got cancelled? The world would be a much better place 🙂
I’m only about 30 pages into it and so far it’s funny. It’s about a gunman who’s a pacifist. I am enjoying Vagabond. The artwork is GORGEOUS (do I remind you of anyone? 😉 )
What volume is that in? At the store where I bought them they still had a lot of volumes if it left. I want to pick up more soon. Is Vagabond a manga that you have to read chronologically?
I’m late replying to the Next Wave comments but I thought it was one of the best comics in recent years! NEXT WAVE! And how can you not like a comic with it’s own theme song? Check out Thunder Thighs of Myspace which was marvel staffer Nick Lowe’s band.
I really do like Andy Diggle’s DD issues so far. I like how he included Japanese history into the stories. I felt super smart knowing most of the Japanese terms without having the editorial boxes tell me what they meant 😀
Hard to believe the same actress was in this bomb as well.
On a different note; between seeing clips of the Green Hornet and having wasted about 20 smackers on this piece of crap, It’s looking doubtful that I’ll be checking out GH whenever it comes out
I am all over this. I really hope that this flick is not all just style with no substance. After seeing Inception I can’t be bothered by that kind of Hollywood shit anymore…but I have faith in Snyder. He hasn’t let me down yet.
Hans Zimmer is one of my favorite music directors. I was at my friend’s house once and we were listening to a playlist full of Hans’ songs. It was epic.
Hrrrmmmm…the book IS scheduled for release next week. I don’t know what the deal is here. They may have been able to buy advance copies from Viz at San Diego or…
At the last comic shop I worked at we ordered all of our manga from a book distributor. Because of that we always got out manga one week earlier than if we ordered the form Diamond. This could be the case.
My local Manga/Anime shop always puts shit out early. It kinda bothers me cause sometimes I dont know when they will and I show up the OFFICIAL day of release and its already sold out?
I thought I would post this again here– as I’ve already received a lot very of cool comments already… and I posted this at the very last gasp of the weekend thread:
Hey! Read Agents of Atlas: Turf Wars last night and believe I finally figured out why the book never sold to expectation… Or at least never equal to its to level of quality.
Truth is I like to be impartial, but honestly your blog is the best of the CCW nation. It’s squared away my man, it has a solid theme, catchy name and damned if you can’t write your ass off.
IM, anything I have read on your blog has been well informed, interesting, entertaining and more importantly, well written! I’ll make a point of stopping by more often.
Also, i’m “that guy” who’s lcs owner only ordered 2 copies of Scott Pilgrim vol.6 and is too lazy or inept to order in independent books for me 😉
Jose, you want to come open up a shop in Canada? I can guarantee you’ll have at least one loyal customer.
I loved how Parker handled the Hulk AND Banner in Agents of Atlas: Turf Wars… Especially the part where Bob says, “I think I can cure you– or at least can control your rage– using a slightly different version of my head band” and then Woo says “Let’s go!” and Bob immediately turns and leaves with a “Later…” and we’re left watching a truly shocked Bruce Banner looking up and WHINING, “Wait! Where are you going? Aren’t you gonna help me?” “Waaaait!”
CLASSIC.
GUESS WHAT, BRUCE? The entire world doesn’t revolve you and your weapon designing ass. Get it now?
yeah a hulk book i’d want to pick up if i could have one wish of something to change at marvel it would be drop bendis from avengers and let jeff parker have a go you know something different i know it may never happen but it sounds interesting.
sigh why won’t you give marvel an avengers book why?
Just mu luck….Jeff Parker comes aboard and folks like Koi Pham, Greg Land or some Michael Turner wanna-be will be linig up to do art chores! That would be so wrong.
I have mixed feelings about American Son. I enjoyed the first half a lot. I’ll still re-read that scene where Spidey beats the tar out of Osborn just to get my jollies 🙂 The last two issues, to me, is when the story derailed itself. Yet again we have Norman impregnating a woman, blase blase blase. The rotating artists didn’t help at all. It would’ve been nice to have them just stick to one artist for the whole story.
Liked the Osborne/Spidey fight… And as I wrote before– HATED everything else. The depth of Peter and Harry’s current relationship MADE NO SENSE. The impregnating thing was also COMPLETELY something I didn’t need to see again.
All that’s left for me to see now is Normie in a threesome with Aunt May and MJ’s Aunt Anna and I’ll have no excuse left not to throw BLEACH in my eyes.
Okay Jose, I’ve just finished Wonder Woman #601. My initial thoughts:
Overall, I’d say that this was a solid start to this run, and if I was rating it, I’d give it a B+. JMS demonstrates his excellent storytelling abilities here; in the way he shows what happened on Paradise Island, as well as revealing clues about the bad guys. There is a feeling of genuine menace and real consequences to this set-up; much like his first 6 issue run in Amazing Spiderman. Diana’s personality here is not the pacifist/diplomat that we all know and love, but it’s very clear to me that this change in character is part of the story, and the point of this story-arc is how she gets back to being “Wonder Woman”. Of course, I can visualize some Wonder Woman fans reading her angry reaction to Oracle’s visions and crying “My Diana would never say something like that!!!!!!” and throwing the issue in the trash. If you go on the WW boards in CBR and DC Comics, people are already screaming about boycotts and saying “Wait till 4 months from now; this book won’t even sell 10,000!” I’ve never seen such negative nellies. Of course, these same people were also boycotting Gail’s run, and dissing her for being unprofessional because she was responding to the snarky comments on the boards. Anyway…
I also have to give props to Don Kramer. The artwork was very good and detailed, in a Carlos Pacheco sort of way. I’m very excited to see where this story is going to go. I hope this brings new fans to Wonder Woman’s book.
Oh, I forgot to add…that scene where she’s dozing off while holding onto the wing of a plane was ri-goddamn-diculous. I dropped a whole letter grade for that alone.
Good review Morlock and I concur for the most part. I had confidence that JMS would turn in a good story (what did you think of the Superman “Grounded” prologue though, I thought it was extremely hackneyed and disappointing), but I was impressed by Kramer as well. I hadn’t thought much of his previous work but he stepped up a gear with WW though. I wish he’d redesign that short jacket though, its so 1990’s.
I flipped through the prologue at my LCS. Didn’t seem like there was anything of note there, aside from the “slap heard round the world”. I know that a lot of Supermna fans thought that the woman’s rage against Supes was unjustified, and was kind of a contrived way to set up his “walkabout”. I heard that the first issue was decent, though. I think I’ll just trade wait for the Grounded storyline. I’m going to buy the JMS WW trade too, but I’m also buying the individual issues to support the character.
One other thing I should mention about #601. There is none of the humor or whimsy that Gail put into her stories evident here. I guess the type of story that JMS is going to tell won’t lend itself easily to laughs, but I’m personally going to miss the dry wit that Ms. Simone brought to the character. To me, if Wonder Woman had any faults, it’s that she’s is sometimes portrayed as soooo incredibly earnest and joyless.
Check out any random pre-Crisis issue of WW; you can practically see the stick poking out of her butt. The only time she used to make jokes were when she’s making mean comments to Etta Candy about eating bon-bons. Let the poor girl enjoy her fucking bon-bons already! You want to encourage an eating disorder or something?
Anyway, I hope JMS doesn’t completey abandon this aspect of the character that Gail brought to the table. I would also recommend for new WW readers to try out some of the trades of Gail’s run. Start with “The Circle”, which is one of the best stories I’ve ever read. Then get the rest. Even the much maligned “Rise of the Olympians” reads alot better in trade format.
Great review Morlock. I agree with pretty much everything you said.
As for Diana’s sense of humor, did you read that issue of Brave and the Bold JMS wrote with WW, Batgirl and Zatanna? Diana cracked a joke in that issue and all the WW fans got up in arms over it. How dare she be funny!? The fan reaction was quite ridiculous. I think after this story is done JMS will write Diana with a sense of humor. It does add some dimension to the character in my opinion.
Greg Rucka had her telling a few jokes… And noticing when guys were leering at her. If I’m not mistaken, she also used a “bad” (he wasn’t super bad) guy’s obvious attraction to her to manipulate him into helping her get what she wanted.
THAT’S the way Greg had HER deal with the “regular” costume… She used it to her advantage in several different ways.
I’m a big fan of documentaries and I watched this one about 2 weeks ago and fell in love. It’s very entertaining super fun to watch. It also added a lot more random knowledge to my already extensive collection. Even if you don’t like beer you will like this doc. It’s on instant streaming on Netflix for those who have it.
Geez, I’m glad that I never aquired a taste for that stuff
Here’s a question for the beer drinkers amonst ye. Is there anybody on these boards that liked the taste of beer your 1st time out?
I believe you’re saying that in a somewhat tongue and cheek kinda way ISM, but I think there’s still some validity to your comment. I’ve often heard ppl say that they had to get use to it 1st, which amazes me.
Just like smoking…it seems no one enjoys their 1st full on smoke, and then 1 turns to 2, 2 to 4, and then before you know it young Becky or li’l Raheem is on their 2nd pack of the day, of course not before downing a few forties to a keg. I just don’t get the appeal
Now these things supposedly mellow a person out, but he or she would never know that unless they forced themselves past that foul taste, which I guess is what I’m getting at here……..why would anyone want to get past it,when their are other ways of handling stress?
The only thing I can think of is Peer Pressure must be a real Muddah :-0
I just discovered the Peter Gabriel OST “PASSION” is on iTunes. Its a hard OST to come by and whenever I do find it, its INCREDIBLY overpriced. So Yeah, that’s my “Awesome” moment for today, whats all yours?
anyone reading hickmans Fantastic four? i have never cared for those characters at all but i love anything this guy writes.
i was not surprised it was gonna be good, but damn. he really can write the FF in a way that seems fresh and enjoyable.
opposed to the usual drab boring reed richards show.
WHAT?!?! Reed was considered to be the lowest on the totem for the FF until Waid came on board. They killed him off for a couple years cause of that perception…
Unless you’re only talking recently. Even then I don’t see it.
– Monkeyman and O’Brien by Art Adams. This series was presented in Dark Horse Presents and had it’s own mini-series. It has been collected into a trade. It’s a very well written and beautifully drawn book. It’s very fun to read.
– Liberty Meadows by Frank Cho. One of the funniest comic strips you’ll ever find anywhere. Too bad Frank Cho is busy drawing crappy Jeph Loeb books, than finishing up this series 😦 Anyway this is another funny and well-drawn series that has been collected into 4 volumes. The sunday collection books are in 2 Hard covers.
That’s about all I can think of now. Hope this was helpful!
Art Adams is the well from which, Ed McGuinness, J. Scott Campell, Joe Madueira, Karl Kerschl and damn near any “Manga-lite” American cartoonist springs from
Any artist that has a “manga-esque” style to there art, I tend to enjoy there art. Especially Joe Madureira. I wish he’d come back to drawning comics again. Battle Chasers was so awesome!
Ed McGuinness I really like too, but he’s still working on comics so all is well. Ok, I guess not since he was/is working on Hulk…
its great IMO, how ever it reads like final crisis sometimes where it can jump around but i loved final crisis so i dont mind. It has dick and damian investigating the area where bruce was being held captive in FC so yea this reads like a sequal that ties in and answers alot of what happenned with bruce and darkseid. it is one consistant story its not just what is it like if bruce was a pirate or pilgrim, it gives you answers and one story.
I really wasn’t crazy about the art in the last issue. It was decent in spots and kinda terrible in others. Morrison’s script was solid though, despite the fact that Jonah Hex was criminally underused.
omg i agree the art was not that great, i honestly thought the first time i saw hex that maby that was two-face. i knew hex was suppose to be in the issue but didnt that look alot like two face at first???
I love this clip 🙂 Whatever happened to the Rollins show? He always had great guests and music acts, and his complete disdain for what America has become was always refreshing to hear.
I’m alright. Thanks for asking. Just had one of those days where I felt like isolating myself for a bit. I’ll be posting somethings later today like Locusmortis’ Previews column and a couple of reviews from IronMuskrat. I’ll be around here for most of today and tomorrow. But first I need to go out and get myself some coffee. I am useless without it.
Damn Insideman, now you’ve got me worried. My not usually being here this home this early in the morning, I don’t have a feel for his schedule. From what I could see…his last posting was 2:56. Has Jose not been on for long laps of time like this before?
the lack of electricity…I’ve been there.
ain’t nothing like standing in line for an hour in the hopes that you might get some ice when it’s 93 degrees in the shade and no wind
I don’t think Chi-towns weather is too different than the motor city’s
anyway…just hoping he’s okay
oh no now i’m worried damn it is anyone looking forward to this
jeph leob’s producing it so hopefully the rulk will stay the fuck away but i’m really looking forward to this well beacause of the name of my blog but i’m also looking forward to this as well
damn this marvel dc money war but we get these series out of it.LONG LIVE THE WAR
The animation looks really old school. The wasp has never looked worse. thor’s helmet…well I just don’t know about the helmet.I do like that they’re going with an old school team.
Hey Insideman, where one goes to put in info/comments on your blog, I’ve noticed that there’s not any required comments next to those fill me out boxes. Need I be concerned should I decide to comment on your blog one day?
Not that I know of, Phil! I will moderate your first comment (meaning I have to approve it) and then you should be good to go… To post whenever you like. I’ve had a ton of posts and no one seems to be running into any problems at all.
My blog runs off the exact same basic WordPress engine as the CCW*TV blog– I just use a different theme.
Please come on over and post any time you like! I like repeat posters!
is anyone else excited about the new elseworlds story from dc it’s like red son except instead of just kal-el showing up his mother and father show up on earth as well. so superman was raised by kyriptonians on earth sounds good i found out about this in june and now that it’s coming out next week i just want your guys opinion on it i think it’s gonna be soooooo good.

I want to thank everybody in the CCW Nation for making the first two weeks of my “Swear All You Like” Blog a big success! All your views and comments have been great!
The other CCW Bloggers have been super supportive too. Thanks for all the promo links. If I’ve missed anybody’s site, please let me know.
I’m gonna try to update the Blog at least once a day… But only if I have stuff to say…Shouldn’t be any problem with that– Right, Deemar? 🙂 I can’t help but hide comments in all the pictures used on the site too! 😉
SPECIAL, SPECIAL thanks to JOSE for his kind encouragement, helpful thoughts and inspiration. There’s cool… And then there’s uber-cool, dude. Thank you.
So, tomorrow will be the first (of hopefully two) special episodes of CCW TV. Elliott taped two episodes with special guests. One survived Elliott’s buffoonery…and the other may not make it. E is trying his hardest (which is not saying much) to salvage the second vid so I guess we shall see what happens.
If the second one does NOT in fact make it I will then tell you all what it WAS and let you have at Elliott with the pitchforks and the torches and the hurting and the burning while I watch from atop my ivory tower, cackling like a madman at his demise.
Not to be depressing, but Elliott posted a cover song on his Facebook page from Radiohead that he thought was good.It got me thinking about other great cover songs out here, I mean covers that you could argue are equal to or better than the original.
Here is one I like, even if it is a bit depressing, but Hey! It’s Nirvana, what do you expect.
I’m really not a Nirvana fan, but I’ve always thought that was a very inspired version of that song. The way he bellows out that final chorus is chilling. Their whole unplugged album was actually quite good, it’s their other stuff i can’t stand.
I agree, never was a fan of anything from Nirvana until I saw their unplugged performance on MTV. I remember thinking.. “Wow, Kurt Cobain is starting to mature as an artist, he might have a future after his whole ‘Grunge’ thing dies down.. and then.. well.. you know..
I asked Walt Simonson on his Facebook page how much White-Out he goes through as an inker. He actually responded!
“Charles – Depends on the inker. I use it a fair amount. Frank Miller used to use tons because it became part of the approach he developed to his art. Al Williamson really really didn’t like it and used to use a very gently applied electric eraser to buzz any mistakes off the page. I’m guessing Al didn’t make many.”
I know that Kanye is public enemy no.1 in these here parts… even though afte I’d seen Taylor Swifts T- Swizzle video I could almost forgive him. Anyway I digress. The only thing I know from Daft Punk was their colaboration with Kanye. My favorite song of his next to Jesus Walks. Noww this ain’t Kanye and I don’t know for sure if daft punk is being sampled here, but I think this is pretty nice.
I’ll go on Google and start typing out a question to see what some of the top searched questions are. There are some reeeeeeeally embarresing questions out there.
On wikipeida I’ll think of a random topic and then clivk random page. I keep clicking links on the next page until I find the page about the subject I’m thinking of.
At the risk of beating a deae horse and God forbid I increase my rep of being Dougie downner to everyone else’s good time; let me clarify;”I am not saying Tron is gonna blow monkey turds or anything, I’m just saying having seen the original Tron and thinking the special effects were ahead of there time then, this updated version barely looks better than something put out…..what?…around 30 yrs ago?
All that said.. I’ll probably check it out if for nothing else the 3D:-)
i did i think so to that guy is huge he is actually thor sized i like agent carlson getting all that screen time good for him very affable guy natalie portman gets more beautiful every time i see her
im a little confused about the 2 multiethnic asgardians i thought they were going to do a banished to earth taking on mortal form thing now they have the caste of the sound of music with an Asian guy and a black guy. i dont get it. i hope im wrong but they stick out like sore token thumbs.
Agent Coulson is pretty damn awesome, hope he makes a debut in the actual 616 Marvel U.
The multi-ethnic asgardians doesn’t bother me at all, especially sense it seems they are going with a “Technology=Magic/Gods = extra demensional beings” idea.
Plus who says the gods have to be white? Sure it’s based on Norse mythology, but within the Thor movie it’s the other way around The Asgardians influenced Scandinavians the Asgardians are their own culture and race of Godlike beings.
It’s the same argument when DC had black Kryptonians, I mean the whole idea of an alien race that look human at all is farfetched enough. So why wouldn’t aliens/gods/extra dimensional beings look black, native american or asian whatever?
Not just that, but when you consider that Lee and Kirby’s asgard was full of beings that leaned more toward super hero chic than the Prince Valiant-ish nordic garb of the day. Who’s to say the….maybe if Thor (Marvels) had been created in the early seventies instead of the early sixties, perhaps there would have been a more ethnically diverse Asgrd and while that never transpired in the 70’s, at least Kirby tested the waters at DC within The New Gods universe with Vykin the Black and The Dark Racer
Myself personally I’ve never cared for the casting of Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. Not because of his color and not because I didn’t think he’d be up for the roll. I just never cared for the fact that apparently this was a 616 based universe and someone decided to add an Ultimate ingredient in there, but I digress……..
Yeah, I’d say Kirby’s intent with all his “Gods” was too play with the idea of myth and legend, he was attemtping to explain why humans have all these mythical ideas of Thor, Hercules, Anubis etc..
What if Thor was real and what if early man mistook what was really an advanced race of beings as gods? Thats what the whole NEW GODS idea is, even the ETERNALS.
So the thought Heimdal or Hogun have to be white is pretty narrow minded. Their not the main characters, but side figures so why not?
If Elizabeth Taylor can be Cleopatra, Idris Alba can be Heimdal.
As far as Sam Jackson as Fury, I see the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) as it’s own continuity. It’s clearly a merging of the 616 and Ultimate universe.
They smartly took the origin of the Ultimate Avengers as opposed to the and lets be honest fanciful beginnings of the Avengers. Replaced it with a more believable gathering of such diverse group of heroes.
Theres no way the government ours or the UN would not have some interest or say in…
A. An irresponsible Billionaire playboy in what amounts to the greatest weapon system in human history.
B. The U.S. governments long thought dead (And only successful application of the Super Soldier serum)super soldier resurfacing alive and well.
C. A Weapon of “Alien” origin landing in the middle of America and some Bearded wildman talking about “Odin this Asgard that” claiming to be the owner of said weapon.
D. A fugitive scientist who’s basically walking Nuclear device
I think Marvel made the right choice with its interpretation of Avengers.
It’s easier for non-comic fans to believe especially a live action movie that wants to create some level of reality.
ok did you notice any other people of color in asgard? even among the extras? thats my point
the comics have done multiethnic asgardians before it worked quite well when they were banished to earth the lost gods storyline or Camelot 3000 or morrisons new gods on earth stuff i have no problems with any of those
but to basically do norse asgard and then oh yeah these 2 guys seems really weird hey it could work i dont know where brannagh and the script are going yet but right now im betting we are going to be scratching our heads
lol oh and there is thise from wiki
Heimdall (Old Norse Heimðallr, later Heimdallr) is one of the æsir (gods) in Norse mythology, in the Edda called the “white god” (hvÃtastr ása “whitest of the aesir Sæm 72ª; hvÃta ás “white as” Sn. 104).
Dude I don’t care, from the trailer and pics yes I see asgardians of various colors.
If a alien from millions of light years from earth can have white skin and blue eyes and call himself superman, Heimdal can be a extra dimensional being with black skin and a afro for all I care.
If they decided to make Odin himself black then maybe I’d be less inclined to accept it. Just like if they ever made the Black Panther movie and made the Panther God white, if they made I don’t know some minor african god like Sobek white I wouldn’t care.
The Black Racer! Another reason why Kirby rules, who else decides the angel of death should be a man on skis? One of my favorite bits in JLA Rock of Ages is when Racer shows up as Darkseid is defeated and everything is about to end and Grant Morrison plays the notion of this character completely straight.
I kinda thought maybe the Black Racer was who Jack thought the Silver Surfer should’ve been before Stan Lee made him into this melancholy guy.You know, the other worldly harbinger of doom or something.
Seen it and it looks a lot better than I thought it would. A couple of thoughts..
1) Odin apparently dying in the first movie..At first I was a little pissy about that, but hey how many Thor movies are there going to be. And I doubt Anthony Hopkins is going to commit to a multi film deal for a Thor series anyway.
2)Does it worry anyone else that the coolest person in the trailer isn’t Thor, Odin or Loki.. But Phil Coulson, Agent of SHIELD.
i was just checking out the castle panel from cci how cute is molly c quinn dressed up like a star trek gal? a cute perky red head dressed up as enterprise crew member at a comic con ? i bet there are fan boys building shrines to her right now
If your not first your last

This song reminds me of better times. Much better times.
J.
Thank you Jose for sharing this!
I’m addicted to this song tonight.
Oh…that’s good. Really good. Never heard it before.
J.
I enjoyed that!
I was thinking picking up The Marvels Project anyone read it? If so would you recommend picking it or passing on it?
Fuck I need some sleep. What I meant to say was thinking of picking up The Marvels Project, was wondering if anyone read it, and if it was worth picking or avoiding.
I read the first two issues and was completely bored by it. I do know that others on the blog have liked it though.
J.
That is about as far as I got, but I have heard really good thing about the mini since than and was hoping to give it another shot in the trade.
If you do pick it up MSpot– get the Human Torch “variant” cover. That’s the one I ordered and it looks sweet!
That was my reaction too, but it may read better in trade form.
I’m with Jose on this one.
Did you finally get around to reading Nextwave or was that something you have been meaning to get off your chest for a while.
I finally got around to reading it. That had to be one of the funniest books I’ve read in a long, long time.
That was a great read and one of my favorite books by Ellis second to Planetary.
I Heart Nextwave.
J.
Sadly, it’s another one of those too-good-to-be-true books that gets cancelled in less than a year. 😦
Yes, that Captain Britain, Atlas, and to a certain extent Ghost Rider all great, fun readers that were cancelled way to soon. There are a few others they just don’t come to mind right now.
All comics that the CCW loved to review. It’s a curse I tell ya.
J.
To me it’s a curse AND a blessing. The blessing is that we are wowed by these awesome comics that we really enjoy, but the curse is they get taken away from us way too soon.
I tend to look on the bright side of things 🙂 I’ve had to do that my whole life.
How about you guy start loving New Avengers, Avengers
Hmmm…you do have a very good point D. 🙂
J.
Worth a try.
On my end I’ve used voodoo, pagan offering to Glycon, and hocking my soul too become a ghostrider all to end Bendis
Haha, Dee you could be the Ghost Rider who hunts down the souls of crappy comic book writers! 🙂
Its really sickening that Alan Davis art is being wasted in order to produce a bendis story.
You ain’t the only one bud.
The Captain **** the best new character of the decade!
Well not really, but he’s cool
Never read Trigun Dude. It did interest me but I never got around to it. For 50 cents I surely would have given it a go though. 🙂
J.
I’m only about 30 pages into it and so far it’s funny. It’s about a gunman who’s a pacifist. I am enjoying Vagabond. The artwork is GORGEOUS (do I remind you of anyone? 😉 )
I’ve seen that anime. Never read the manga.
J.
Is the anime good?
It was alright.
J.
lol the word GORGEOUS lost its meaning when Elliot used it 12 times in one minute.
Are you sure? You gotta admit that the art in Vagabond is GORGEOUS 😀
That’s true. I mean the details always stunned me. I mean when he drew those ants I was like “JESSSSSSSUSSSS” Seriously, the art is off the chain.
What volume is that in? At the store where I bought them they still had a lot of volumes if it left. I want to pick up more soon. Is Vagabond a manga that you have to read chronologically?
Vagabond is a thick series. But a rewarding one 🙂
I actually never read Trigun the manga, I only saw the show.
Hey Mike, the 8th volume of Vagabond’s BigViz edition just came out.
Really? Damn I’m behind on my manga again!
I am still behind on Gantz and BioMega and AIR GEAR! Shhhiiittttttt
Its because USA comics usually take up most of my paycheck…
I’m late replying to the Next Wave comments but I thought it was one of the best comics in recent years! NEXT WAVE! And how can you not like a comic with it’s own theme song? Check out Thunder Thighs of Myspace which was marvel staffer Nick Lowe’s band.
http://www.myspace.com/thighsofsweetthunder
NEXTWAVE!
I really do like Andy Diggle’s DD issues so far. I like how he included Japanese history into the stories. I felt super smart knowing most of the Japanese terms without having the editorial boxes tell me what they meant 😀
i agree, also it shows that some marvel editors are actually doing their job
Heh, you’re right 🙂 Good point Smokey! I guess I should lighten up on the Marvel editor bashing, huh? Naaaaaah! 🙂
But in all seriousness I’m glad Marvel did put those definitions in for the people who didn’t pay attention in history class.
I really want to check this movie out
it opened in nyc a couple of weeks ago reviews were not kind
J.
I’ve seen this. It had moments but not overall not a great movie.
It did have it’s moments and was not a GREAT movie but it did have Matt Berry in it. That’s all that matters to me. 🙂
How about this one?
J.
I decided a long while ago any movie trailer that includes a wilhelm scream I’m staying away from.
First sign of suckage
The scream was only in the trailer.
J.
I haven’t seen this. I will have to check this out.
What
the
FUCK
seriously
Yes seriously. 🙂
What the chair is the Devil?
Plus I miss good ol’ physical FX, CG can get tiresome
Those were practical effects D. Not a lot a CGI in that movie. Was kinda low budget.
J.
practical that’s the word
I mean no one has yet to top American Werewolf in London.
All practical
It’s The Devil’s Chair. What the hell did you want? A fucking picnic and dancing?
J.
Ha!
well maybe a simple “Hello I’m evil incarnate and I’m a chair.”
He he…this is true.
J.
Hey! NOBODY puts SATAN in the CORNER!
The Beezlebub Abides
I enjoyed Bronson I’ll probably enjoy this one as well I’ll see if I can work this in before the week is out.
And with that good night.
Finally got to see Bronson myself.
Tom Hardy that guy is next in line, straight up he’s that guy
Rumor is, that he’s going to be in the new Mad Max movie other than that Bronson is his best.
A movie called Bronson without Charles Bronson (or at the very least the writer of the Fist of the North Star manga) seemed pointless to me.
J.
Trust me, its a damn good movie.
In fact its right up your alley J
Man, Charles Bronson’s wife, Jill Ireland was a straight-up hot piece of ass:
http://celebdomain.com/Jill%20Ireland-pictures.html
Veddy nice
Whoa…
J.
And she was very English but in a super sexy way… the exact anti-thesis of what you would expect a brawler like Bronson to be married to…
Impressive.
hmm interesting, I would not have paired those two together at all
I have never meant anyone that knew him or her that were not amazed at HOW MUCH those two loved each other, Stamps. Apparently, it was EPIC.
Aw see that story warms even my cold and icy heart.
Nice
Dude has a swagger about him.
He’d make a good Wolverine
Sorry, there is only one crazy chickeepoo in my life and her name is not Lola…it’s May.
J.
She is creepy lookin
was that Ana Faris?
Yup.
J.
Hard to believe the same actress was in this bomb as well.
On a different note; between seeing clips of the Green Hornet and having wasted about 20 smackers on this piece of crap, It’s looking doubtful that I’ll be checking out GH whenever it comes out
2o smackers for this 😦
I thought this movie was great in a fucked up dark sense.
I definitely thought it was efD up.
oh and if you didn’t catch my replr from before, thx for the props on my Cap DA sketch, Tom!
Anyone check this yet
This looks cool! I like the Lords of Acid track in the trailer.
It looking pretty good, Zack Snyder has mastered the visual that’s for damn sure.
If they ever make a Voltron movie I want him
I am all over this. I really hope that this flick is not all just style with no substance. After seeing Inception I can’t be bothered by that kind of Hollywood shit anymore…but I have faith in Snyder. He hasn’t let me down yet.
J.
Dude Inception was like cinematic vagina, warm, intriguing, inviting, MOIST and a happy ending.
🙂
Zack up too this point has been 3 for 3, even though Watchmen wasn’t perfect it was a good try hell a respectable try!
His weakness is tone and story, he’s Michael Bay if Michael Bay gave a shit, and believe you me Michael Bay does not give a shit.
oooooouuuuuu nice Deemar I hadn’t seen this yet. This has “My kind of movie” written all over it. Very cool. March is so far away. *sigh*
Zack is making a sequel to 300 also
Whats is going to be called.. Zero? ::rimshot::
You know that was funny! don’t even…
eye candy at its lethal best
looks awesome! Thanks Deemar!
Has anyone seen my car keys?
=D
They’re on your nightstand next to your lamp with the Liberace shade over it.
No no the silver one.
Your welcome…(o-0)
“you’re”
hey! I’m a pre-cog, not a good speller
I hear they’ve signed ROBIN WILLIAMS to play WOLVERINE in the “Old Man Logan: film adaptation!
Heh!
Actually Mel Gibson would be a better fit.
That guy has rage, a endless pit of the stuff
Um… early April Fools Day joke…?
He’d still rule as OML
racism and spousal abuse aside
the question is can he not sound like Crocodile Dundee when he’s saying ‘bub’ 🙂
Well…he’s hairy enough
I’ll be watching this later this week.
Yeah that was almost good
Looks B-movie level
Loves the Sam Jackson, but I’ll pass.
Good to see Superman is getting work though
try this on
Primer was good. They made it with such a low budget too.
i saw this it was on sci fi channel it was actually quite good watched it a couple of times
Holy crap, it’s almost 2 AM! I hardly stay up this late… gonna call it a night CCW Nation!
Oh damn bye
Heard of this flick
Looks promising
Ugh. This looks like Irreversible part 2. Think I’ll skip it.
I tried to watch this but couldn’t finish it, just not my thing. None of the characters are likable.
*Sniff* Stones warm stones
*Sniff* Jose sarcastic Jose
*Sniff* Bendis epic douche Bendis
*Sniff* Cocaine I can lift a Miata over my head at 3am in the morning in the parking lot of a night club Cocaine
I love the score to this fucking movie so much
Hans Zimmer is one of my favorite music directors. I was at my friend’s house once and we were listening to a playlist full of Hans’ songs. It was epic.
WHY DO SOME RETAILERS ALREADY HAVE BAKUMAN VOLUME ONE FOR SALE?
WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!?!?!?
Where?
J.
Scroll down on the right side– it’s there in ALPHABETICAL ORDER:
http://www.instocktrades.com/product.aspx?id=999&pid=13427&l=y
I mean scroll down on the LEFT SIDE. Jesus!
J.
That’s what they’re doing then… Book distributor.
My local Manga/Anime shop always puts shit out early. It kinda bothers me cause sometimes I dont know when they will and I show up the OFFICIAL day of release and its already sold out?
Ughh, Otakus can be devious…
We pray too Jeebus round these here parts
I thought I would post this again here– as I’ve already received a lot very of cool comments already… and I posted this at the very last gasp of the weekend thread:
Hey! Read Agents of Atlas: Turf Wars last night and believe I finally figured out why the book never sold to expectation… Or at least never equal to its to level of quality.
I’d be interested to know what you think too!
http://wp.me/pZr1Y-QA
Sider your blog is grade A
Thanks, D! 🙂
I’ll remember next time Pobra! That’s a great story! If you’re not on your end of it, I mean! 😉
And thanks for the kind thoughts. When you stop by, post when you feel like it!
So who’s looking forward to Jeff Parker taking of the Hulk with issue #25?
I fucking HATE that character…but since Parker is taking it over I’ll read it. I am not promising I am go to like it though.
J.
You’ll like it grumpy puss you!
🙂
Hell I just just want JP to put Loeb to shame, writing his creation better than he (Loeb) ever could.
High five to that.
*Fiver*
Get it now?
I am! Parker on an established Marvel character? I’m there. Of course, I’d love to see him on the X-men down the line.
yeah a hulk book i’d want to pick up if i could have one wish of something to change at marvel it would be drop bendis from avengers and let jeff parker have a go you know something different i know it may never happen but it sounds interesting.
sigh why won’t you give marvel an avengers book why?
Just mu luck….Jeff Parker comes aboard and folks like Koi Pham, Greg Land or some Michael Turner wanna-be will be linig up to do art chores! That would be so wrong.
almost as wrong as hy forgetting to put the second “n” in lining. 🙂
not to mention putting “hy” in instead of “my”….oy vey!!
For all the Mad Men fans out there like myself who HATE the character that is Bitchy-um I mean Betty Draper
Brings back good memories
January Jones is a great actress to be able to portray her as completely lacking in warmth and emotion.
Something to look forward to.
http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2010/07/exclusive-joe-the-barbarian-film-adaptation-in-the-works/
A Joe the Barbarian film is in the works according to Grant Morrison.
Please tell me this is some fan made thing and that’s not what the original caption said…
Some fan made it. I have the issue this panel is from. It’s from Amazing Spider-Man#595.
I WISH that’s what Wolvie originally said. I might have liked that book then!
Amusing. I could imagine the different captions that could come from that strip.
J.
I miss Mr. Rucka being at DC…
It’s a well paying job
🙂
Evening Folks!
Beeeeeer! It’s whats for breakfast! Thanks for the tip, Stamps.
Geez, I’m glad that I never aquired a taste for that stuff
Here’s a question for the beer drinkers amonst ye. Is there anybody on these boards that liked the taste of beer your 1st time out?
No, of course not. You only like the taste of your 6th beer!
Hi, everybody! I just went FULL THROTTLE and SLAMMED directly into a problem that has been bugging me about comics for a LONG, LONG TIME.
I hope you enjoy… and please let me know what you think about it too:
http://wp.me/pZr1Y-Rl
You don’t hear stories like this anymore.
http://realestate.msn.com/blogs/listedblogpost.aspx?post=1786978&_blg=1,1786978
I just discovered the Peter Gabriel OST “PASSION” is on iTunes. Its a hard OST to come by and whenever I do find it, its INCREDIBLY overpriced. So Yeah, that’s my “Awesome” moment for today, whats all yours?
Mike– My ex-girlfriend rear-ended Peter Gabriel why he was driving his car here in LA. It’s a funny story… I’ll tell you sometime. 😉
anyone reading hickmans Fantastic four? i have never cared for those characters at all but i love anything this guy writes.
i was not surprised it was gonna be good, but damn. he really can write the FF in a way that seems fresh and enjoyable.
opposed to the usual drab boring reed richards show.
WHAT?!?! Reed was considered to be the lowest on the totem for the FF until Waid came on board. They killed him off for a couple years cause of that perception…
Unless you’re only talking recently. Even then I don’t see it.
Slow week.
So, what is everyone reading or have read lately that you have no problem recommending.
I own every one of those.
Liberty meadows is a fantastic book, far far better than the crap he’s worked on for Marvel.
Greatest Comic Ever.

Those back rubs always lead to trouble =)
IM
i come back home on friday, im breakin in hives cause i havent red ROBW #4 yet 😦
how has ROBW been lately GD? I only read the first issue.
its great IMO, how ever it reads like final crisis sometimes where it can jump around but i loved final crisis so i dont mind.
For all you opposite gender types out there.
I love this clip 🙂 Whatever happened to the Rollins show? He always had great guests and music acts, and his complete disdain for what America has become was always refreshing to hear.
Hey Jose, where you been? Everything OK?
I’m alright. Thanks for asking. Just had one of those days where I felt like isolating myself for a bit. I’ll be posting somethings later today like Locusmortis’ Previews column and a couple of reviews from IronMuskrat. I’ll be around here for most of today and tomorrow. But first I need to go out and get myself some coffee. I am useless without it.
J.
Good to know! 🙂
So, did you get your coffee?
I know some really cute Chicago based hookers. You want one?
Or you could get this extremely cool one cup coffee maker… I’ve bought like 12 of ’em for friends:
$18.99 for an EXCELLENT coffee maker? Damn!
Yup. I even got myself a bagel too.
I have held off on buying a coffee maker because I know if have one in the kitchen I will be drinking coffee ALL DAY. Not even exaggerating.
Now to see if I can get some work on the blog done.
I’ll get back to you about the hookers.
J.
Yeah, I know what you mean. That’s why I never got around to building that meth lab in the 2nd bedroom.
Damn Insideman, now you’ve got me worried. My not usually being here this home this early in the morning, I don’t have a feel for his schedule. From what I could see…his last posting was 2:56. Has Jose not been on for long laps of time like this before?
when his electricity at home goes down yeah.
the electric went here for a couple of hours yesterday and it isn’t like its hot or anything here 😦
the lack of electricity…I’ve been there.
ain’t nothing like standing in line for an hour in the hopes that you might get some ice when it’s 93 degrees in the shade and no wind
I don’t think Chi-towns weather is too different than the motor city’s
anyway…just hoping he’s okay
oh no now i’m worried damn it is anyone looking forward to this
jeph leob’s producing it so hopefully the rulk will stay the fuck away but i’m really looking forward to this well beacause of the name of my blog but i’m also looking forward to this as well
damn this marvel dc money war but we get these series out of it.LONG LIVE THE WAR
oh sorry here’s the avengers
i like all the old school villains but definitely for the younger crowd
The animation looks really old school. The wasp has never looked worse. thor’s helmet…well I just don’t know about the helmet.I do like that they’re going with an old school team.
I’d watch it.
I would too.
I’m never gonna get that song outta my head now… Fuck! 😉
lol
Horrible music, but like the animation style.
I’m really interested on other folks takes on this matter….if you get a chance
http://pmktwelve.blogspot.com/2010/07/are-superhero-comics-becoming-too-dark.html

HEY JOSE!
Finally got the EW in. Arrived flat in a nice envelope. I should miss issues more often.
The huge “THE NEW BUFFY” blurb on the cover?
Referencing the frickin’ BUFFY MOTION COMIC! Bet you’re super glad you didn’t drive all the way over there NOW!
Off to the blog, got some “mea culpa-ing” to do! 😉
Weeeeeeeak.
J.
So is my apology! 😉
http://wp.me/pZr1Y-GO
Elliott sits down (briefly) and talks to The Man, The Myth, The Legend.
J.
just finished watching Evangelion 1.11 and it was awesome and I highly reccomend it to both Fans and people who have not seen Evangelion. Now I am gonna watch Eva 2.22
Come by and post when you get a chance:
http://swearallyoulike.com/
SPECIAL, SPECIAL thanks to JOSE for his kind encouragement, helpful thoughts and inspiration. There’s cool… And then there’s uber-cool, dude. Thank you.
You are way more than welcome. Thanks for the kind words.
J.
This is hilarious! Someone clicked on my Blog after conducting a Google Search for “Funny Beavers”.
Whaaaaa?
J.
And I didn’t have either of those great clips on my site! 🙂
Glad the blog is a hit Sider!
You definately got a lot too say! Ha! seriously it is a fine blog.
J.
And somewhere E is saying….”with friends like these…………….. :-)”
A very special episode of CCW, where Elliott comes clean about his addiction to chewing crayons.
Don’t forget the Tourettes that causes him to just blurt out “Blase, Blase, Blase” at the most inopportune moments. 😉
It’s Nirvana, what do you expect.
and most of their covers (if not all) imo are either on par or over the original.
Wow! It looks like the Andrew Sisters were doin’ it with Marilyn Manson and gave birth to Insane Clown Posse
now this i have to see phil
I liked this cover.
These guys are gooood!
wow, that was really great ballsack, thanks for posting. Love the spanish flare they added to it. Sounds amazing.
this cover always blows my mind.
oops, didn’t mean to post the tutorial. Here’s the full version.
Nice!
I wonder if Lars sued them =)
I’m really not a Nirvana fan, but I’ve always thought that was a very inspired version of that song.

Daft Punk tracks from the Tron: Legacy soundtrack. I need this album in my life.

I hope the music sounds better than the movie trailer looks.
I thought the trailer released last week was pretty damn cool.
J.
Where in the hell is the CW Nation?
I feel like I’m living in the middle of an old Twilight Zone where Jose and I are the ONLY people left on the internet.
Jose, WATCH OUT FOR ZOMBIES! Aaaaagh!
That’s a very good question.

This gonna be another bug hunt, sarge?
Some more great things people searched GOOGLE for that have inexplicably brought them to my “Swear All You Like” Blog:
ironman crossed with wonder woman
swear all you like buffy
cosplay comic ass
Still having a hard time deciding whether “funny beavers” or the new Google search phrase “fuck all you fuckers” is my favorite search so far.
I am going to go ahead and vote for “fuck all you fucker” as my favorite. Let’s see if I have any odd searches that have brought people to this blog:
tina fey hot
natalie merchant
nicolas cage tartar sauce
deadpool shoots himself
But this one is my favorite of the day:
“marvel treat jack kirby like shit”
Wow, this is fun.
J.
I can’t help but wonder what the fellow who typed “Nicholas Cage tartar sauce” was actually searching for…
It’s a awesome scene from “The Weather Man”. I can’t find it on youtube anymore though.
J.
Oh yeah, i remember that scene! That was actually a pretty great movie.
Those are all funny! My favorite one so far on my blog is this:
“spider-man misses fat weding”
I sure there are more, but WordPress or my computer is being dumb and won’t let me see my dashboard 😦
Nic Cage tartar sauce for the win!
Damn Insideman, you have discovered my favorite game to play on the internet..
Type creepy nonsense into Google or Wikipedia and see if someone out there has made a website about it.. I am rarely disappointed =)
IM
Hehe… I play those games too IM!
Good times! 🙂
I don’t know. Looks good to me.
J.
Looks cool to me, but I have to confess to never being a big fan of the original movie.

I’m down for some Tron.
Jeff Bridges has been on a roll lately
Even with the SHITTY HAIR– I would WEAR MY JOYSTICK OUT playing with Olivia Wilde.
I think I’d check that out.
I don’t know if this has been posted before, but if Zack Synder is doing it, it could be pretty good.
Nazis, Fire breathing dragons and Samurai w/ chain guns.. top it off with hot chicks with swords = Win!
Deemar posted this about 170 comments ago. Good to see you are paying attention. 😛

Getting old Jose, got lost in Meijer’s the other day, and had to have some youngsters show me the way out =)
Just be thankful that they weren’t “Children Of The Corn types” : )
Clint Eastwood’s got the Alzeimers
Anyone see the THOR trailer?
It looks kinda cool.
i did i think so to that guy is huge he is actually thor sized i like agent carlson getting all that screen time good for him very affable guy natalie portman gets more beautiful every time i see her
im a little confused about the 2 multiethnic asgardians i thought they were going to do a banished to earth taking on mortal form thing now they have the caste of the sound of music with an Asian guy and a black guy. i dont get it. i hope im wrong but they stick out like sore token thumbs.
Well I’m guessing you would have neede oxygen if Thor had come flying in with dreads.
Its apples and oranges
The Black Racer! Another reason why Kirby rules, who else decides the angel of death should be a man on skis? One of my favorite bits in JLA Rock of Ages is when Racer shows up as Darkseid is defeated and everything is about to end and Grant Morrison plays the notion of this character completely straight.
I kinda thought maybe the Black Racer was who Jack thought the Silver Surfer should’ve been before Stan Lee made him into this melancholy guy.You know, the other worldly harbinger of doom or something.
Heh!!
Plus he’s a black guy who ski, black people don’t go skiing.
Kirby is one of a kind
Seen it and it looks a lot better than I thought it would. A couple of thoughts..
1) Odin apparently dying in the first movie..At first I was a little pissy about that, but hey how many Thor movies are there going to be. And I doubt Anthony Hopkins is going to commit to a multi film deal for a Thor series anyway.
2)Does it worry anyone else that the coolest person in the trailer isn’t Thor, Odin or Loki.. But Phil Coulson, Agent of SHIELD.
IM
Yeah getting Hopkins if only for this one movie is good enough for me.
Plus they can bring him back “ODIN SLEEP” anyone?
Well, this is not mission difficult Odinson, it’s mission impossible. Difficult should be a walk down the Rainbow Bridge for you.
RuPaul, Boy George and Ellen Degenerous wouldn’t have a problem walking down the Rainbow bridge.
Robert Towne called, he wants his cred back after writing MI2.
i was just checking out the castle panel from cci how cute is molly c quinn dressed up like a star trek gal? a cute perky red head dressed up as enterprise crew member at a comic con ? i bet there are fan boys building shrines to her right now

Cool. Thanks Kuru. That would have been an awesome panel to have gone to.
