Who’s Getting What This Week?

Posted: August 2, 2010 in DC Comics, Marvel

So…um…this is awkward. If you take a look at my list below you will see that I am getting quite a few Marvel books this Wednesday even though week in and week out I find something new to dislike them for. Why is this happening? Well, it appears that Marvel decided to release almost all of their good books on the same day. Thanks.

This week sees the end of the best miniseries of the year and one of Marvel’s BEST books of the year, Doomwar. That’s the bad news. The good news? All you trade waiters are a little closer to it’s eventual collected release so you can finally see for yourselves WHY we have been loving this comic. How about some more good news? As Doomwar comes to an end Jonathan Maberry’s NEW mini Marvel Universe vs. The Punisher begins (with art by Goran Parlov). If it is half as good as Doomwar I will be very pleased. Oh, and some dude named John Layman is writing Shadowland: Bullseye. I guess John won an Eisner Award over the weekend for a book that he writes about eating. Sounds pretty fucking boring to me but then again people will buy anything. Look no further than Millar or Bendis comics for that in action.

Did I just compare the mighty Layman to Bendis and Millar?

Anywho, here’s what I’m buying:

Bakuman Vol 1
Doomwar #6 (Jonathan Maberry)
Gorilla Man #2 (Jeff Parker)
Marvel Universe vs The Punisher #1 (Jonathan Maberry)
REBELS #19
Secret Warriors #18 (Jonathan Hickman)
Shadowland: Bullseye #1 (John Layman)
SHIELD #3 (Jonathan Hickman)
Spider-Man Fantastic Four #2 (Christos Gage and Mario Alberti)

What are you getting this week?

J.

  1. Mike F says:

    Whats Gorilla Man about?

I might just get DoomWar. IDK why a Shadowland tie in has to be 4 dollars but I am not gonna forfeit it. 3? Then yes, I’d gladly do it…

  2. generaldark says:

brightest day #7 (this is suppose to be the game changer so im crossing my fingers)
    star wars old republic #2
might get the zombies vs. cheerleaders
    doomwar
    rebels

    maby marvel vs. punisher

    gorrila man

more shit but i cant remmeber lol

    • Morlock50 says:

Man, after the coin you’ve spent on that shitty BD series, I hope this issue is worth it to you. DC owes you.

  3. Mr.Wrestling says:

Big week, I agree with Jose that it is odd to see so many good Marvel books coming out in one week

    Batman: Odyssey #2
    Red Robin #15
    I, Zombie #4
    Sweet Tooth #12
    Sparta USA #6
    Doomwar #6
    Hawkeye & Mockingbird #3
Marvel Universe vs. The Punisher #1
    SHIELD #3
Spiderman and the Fantastic Four #2

  4. tomstewdevine says:

    Brightest Day #7
    Jonah Hex #58
    Secret Six #24
    House of Mystery #28
    Sweet Tooth #12
Tom Strong and the Robots of Doom #3
    Doomwar #6
    Marvel Universe vs Punisher #1
    SHIELD #3
    Boys #45
    Crossed Family Values #3
    Hellboy The Storm #2
    Shuddertown #4
    Supergod #4

Another huge week, but at least its full of great titles. I’m most excited for SHIELD, Doomwar, Sweet tooth. And it’s make it or break it for Brightest Day and Secret Six, with BD the only story that still has my attention is the Deadman one. Secret Six just had a really high peek with the Catman arc, I don’t know if I should just drop it now so I’m not disappointed with the future of the book, I will give it one more issue to wow me like the last arc.

  5. Shield#3, for sure!

    Maybe:

Punisher vs. the Marvel Universe#1 (how much does this book cost, anyone?)
Deadpool#1000 (out of guilty pleasure I MAY get this)

WTF, I rant about Marvel two weeks ago and now I may buy 3 of there books… I’ve kinda lost my interest in REBELS after the Starro Invasion. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great book, but idk it just didn’t interest me as much as it used to… that was hard to say 😦

  6. TheMSpot says:

Marvel Universe vs. The Punisher #1
    SHIELD #3

  7. mbell028 says:

Hey What’s up guys? This week I’ll be getting:
    Secret Six 24
    Sparta USA 6

If my shop has it I’ll pick up Marvel Universe Vs the Punisher it sounds like it will be a cool book plus it’s only 4 issues. I still have some graphic novels I need to finish so I’ll be fine with the small week. Finished Scott Pilgrim volume 6 last night I actually thought it was very good. A lot better than what I was expecting and I also finished Jeff Parker’s Spider-man and the Fantastic Four it was very good. It’s nice to read a comic that’s not overly violent while still continuing to be entertaining.

  8. Deemar says:

    DOOM WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. kurumais says:

    brutal week for me

SUPERMAN THE LAST FAMILY OF KRYPTON #1 (OF 3)
    AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #639
HELLBOY THE STORM #2 (of 3)

    A light week for me.

    Matthew

  11. I zombie #4 (the story is not taking me in, but I like its style)
Amazing Spider-Man #639 (this is just weird..)
Avengers Origin #5 (fairly dissapointed by this series)
Avengers Prime #2 (It seems like it took forever to publish issue 2..issue 1 was about the Siege-aftermath..what will happen now?)
Doomwar #6 (the conclusion to an awesome book)
Marvel Universe vs the Punisher #1 (Looking really forward to this!)
Secret warrriors #18 (Hickman, the man that gives us a 100 questions and only 10 answers at a time)
Shield #3 (ditto, but awesome artwork..and unique setting)
Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark #1 2nd prnt (lets hope the book is in my bin this time)

3 times more marvel books compared to last week.

  12. Heck says:

Superman the Last Family of Krypton #1

    Light week for this guy.

  13. manaconda! says:

    CASANOVA!

    woop woop woop!

    i wooped.

    captain america

    shield

    secet warriors

  14. Insideman says:

Still doing the hardcover & trade deal. There’s a great DC Chronicles Batman statue I’m getting as well.

I also talk on my BLOG about HOW RIDICULOUS it is that there are FIVE Classic “Campfire” Editions coming out this week here: http://wp.me/pZr1Y-Vp and also here: http://wp.me/pZr1Y-Rl

So here’s the list. I already had several of the books released this week in their original hardcover editions. I also already own the Sherlock Holmes: Study in Scarlet AND Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles published by Sterling Press– both adapted by the very capable Ian Edington!

    Batman Arkham Reborn
    Cinderella From Fabletown With Love
    Cyberforce Hunter Killer
Dark Tower Battle Of Jericho Hill HC
    El Arsenal Vol 1
    Escape From Terra Vol 1
    Fogtown HC
    GI Joe Origins Vol 3
    Hellspawn Complete Collection HC
Hulk Fall Of The Hulks Savage She-Hulks
    Magog Lethal Force
Milo Ventimiglia Presents Berserker Vol 1
    Punisher Max Naked Kills
    Robocop Vol 1 Revolution
    Shadoweyes Vol 1
Spider-Man Gauntlet Vol 4 Juggernaut HC
    Starmaker Leviathan

    MANGA
    Bakuman Vol 1
    Ikigami Ultimate Limit Vol 6
    Starcraft Ghost Academy Vol 2

    • Just curious, what kind of comics is: Milo Ventimiglia presents Berserker, Shadoweyes, El Arsenal and Escape from Terra. Never heard of em. What publisher for instance? HC?

      • Insideman says:

I’ve got to run out for an hour or so– when I come back I’ll give you the info hackslash.

      • Insideman says:

HackSlash, Shadoweyes is from Ross Campbell the creator of WET MOON & WATER BABY. I love his art… So I definitely had to pick up this new collection. You can see a art preview here:

        http://ghettomanga.blogspot.com/2010/04/free-preview-shadoweyes-by-ross.html

        • Shadow Eyes looks really cool. The artwork looks sweet. I love the detailed background/architecture-drawings. That is why I love Akira so much. It’s the city, not the bike, or the story. Tekkonkinkreet had that as well.

      • Insideman says:

El Arsenal is a book about a mercenary. Written Salvador Vasquez with art by Daniel Perez Simon Masiosare.

The books logline: He best mercenary in the business and he has recently accepted a mission to steal cockroaches, for inside these simple bugs a powerful biological weapon is kept. However, Simon quickly realizes that his timing couldn’t be worse. When he arrives at ‘Las Tristezas de Tutankhamen’ he realizes that a bounty has just been put on his head and every top mercenary is looking for him!

Unfortunately Arcana’s art preview is down (which is a real shame because the art looks VERY cool) but you can see the TPB cover at my “Swear All you Like” Blog… In this post: http://wp.me/pZr1Y-Vp

      • Insideman says:

“Escape from Terror” is a Science Fiction series that can actually be found as a WEB COMIC at Big Head Press. I have the link to the very first “Escape from Terror” panels here:

        http://www.bigheadpress.com/eft?page=1

I hear the web comic is very popular. The art looked a cut above from some of the shit I can subject myself to. It is also my understanding that the ART & STORY BOTH IMPROVE as the comic progresses. (That’s always a good sign… So we’ll see.)

You can just read the web comic if you’re so inclined. I like to support cool stuff by BUYING IT– that’s why I am picking up this TPB. (Plus I like holding books! Which is good since I don’t like reading web comics on my computer.)

  15. Insideman says:

Well, I posted my list and then, like an idiot, put 2 links in the post which means Jose has to moderate it before it can post.

One of the days, I swear I’m gonna get my head out of my ass.

    (Sorry Jose!)

  16. TheGateJester says:

Shit man really big week for me!

    Batman Odyssey #2
    Jonah Hex #58
    Rebels #19
    Secret Six #24
    I Zombie #4

    Doomwar #6
    Gorilla Man #2
    Marvel Universe vs Punisher #1
Phillip K Dicks Electric Ant #5
    Secret Warriors #18
    Shadowland Bullseye #1
    SHIELD #3
    Spider-Man Fantastic Four #2

P.S. J. did you see that Gage is going to be writting a Ragman one shot? Is he not a Marvel exclusive anymore?

  17. IronMuskrat says:

My only for sure books this week will be..

    Doomwar #6

    SHIELD #3

    REBELS #19

    Maybe…

Marvel Universe vs. The Punisher.. I will look at it, if it seems like Marvel Zombies, but with out the Zombies .. pass.

Shadowland: Bullseye. I like John Layman, but really have no interest in the Shadowland mini or Bullseye.

    IM

  18. Morlock50 says:

    Gorilla Man #2

Marvel Universe vs. Punisher #1 (Since I missed Doomwar, and I’ll probably trade wait for that one)

Shadowland:Bullseye #1 (Only because of John layman. Seriously. I could care less about Bulls)

Spiderman/Fantastic Four (I may pick up the first issue if it’s still on the rack)

Powergirl: A New Beginning Vol. 1

I have obviously lifted my boycott of Marvel at this point. I think the cancelation of Atlas made me realise that the good Marvel writers need support.

  19. Stamps says:

    Batman Confidential #47
    Batman Odyssey #2
    Doom Patrol #13
    Red Robin #15
    Doomwar #6
Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark #1 (2nd Print)

  21. Pobra says:

    A pretty Marvel-centric week for me too…

Shadowland: Bullseye (only for you Layman, only for you)
    Sweet Tooth #12

    maybe’s:
REBELS #19 (again, losing interest like many others)
Shadowland #2 (hated #1, maybe 2 will be better… maybe???)

  22. megamanx4ever says:

    Brightest Day #7
    Jonah Hex #58
    Ultimate Comics Avengers 2 #6

  23. Pobra says:

For the record, i was just messing around earlier.
Sarcasm and the internet do not mix. Sorry if i came off as being serious.

  24. Constantanius says:

    Batman Odyssey #2
    Brightest Day #7
Superman the Last Family of Krypton #1 (Elseworlds)
    JSA All Stars #9
    Avengers Prime #2
    Doomwar #6
    Iron Man Legacy #5
Shadowland #2(Going to be dropping this unless this issue is kick ass)
    SHIELD #3
    Shadowland Bullseye #1(Layman, ’nuff said)
Ultimate Comics Avengers 2 #6(Had to finish the run!!! I really need help about this tendancy)

    • Morlock50 says:

So is Ultimate Avengers any better the second time around, or is Millar still tossing babies out of windows?

      • Constantanius says:

It’s not bad, there hasn’t been anything that I found offensive yet, but I don’t think I’ll be picking up the next run.

    • tomstewdevine says:

I didn’t realize that the Superman book was an Elseworlds tale. I will be adding that to my pull list.

  25. rush says:

    Batman Odyssey #2
    I Zombie #4
    Sweet Tooth #12
    Baltimore the Plague Ships #1
    Boys #45
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? #13
    Hellboy The Storm #2
    Irredeemable #16
    Supergod #4

  26. Morlock50 says:

I just read my stack of comics, and I have to say that Marvel U vs the Punisher was an awesome read! Now I really can’t wait for the Doomwar trade.
