This sounds like the soundtrack to a Chinese wedding, heck it would be sweet if they played this music at MY wedding reception (barring if I EVER get married that is, lol ) 😛

    • Coolest picture I’ve seen all day. Although if this was my wedding I wouldn’t want Kick-Ass at it 🙂

    • Stamps says:

If I get married this is exactly what my wedding to look like. Except there’s no way in hell I would be Wonder Woman

      • cballsack says:

Please get it on Youtube. I guarantee it’ll get over a million hits.

      • phil says:

So who would you be, Stamps?

        • Stamps says:

hmmm good question. Probably Catwoman or Batgirl. Not new tactical-leg-pouch wearing Batgirl but a proper Casandra or Babara version.

I would say Jade, but if college has taught me anything thus far it’s that full body paint is not fun to chip off your body at the end of the day. And no one wants to deal with the jokes about being “green” on their wedding day.

Oracle wouldn’t be that bad either I guess 😛 I could sit through the ceremony and have a laptop with me. lol

  1. rush says:

I watched Valhalla Rising over the weekend. I recommend this movie, the cinematography is awesome. Some might find the pacing to be slow but it keeps tension throughout the film.

    • TheMSpot says:

Yeah, I like the single camera technique as well. The director really knew how to stretch a hour and a half. How about that dialogue? He he or lack there of, but what was said keep the story going. I would recommend it even though I think I’ve seen better from this director. I was going to do a review of the movie on my blog, but instead decided to ask a comic book question and forgot that only three people read my blog. Oh well, this was a interesting movie.

      • rush says:

We are on the same page about the film TMS. Have you seen The Double Life Of Veronique? That is next on my list as soon as I find the time.

        • TheMSpot says:

No, I haven’t, but when you find time tell me what you think. It sounds interesting, and if I ever get around to seeing it I think it will be the first Polish film I’ve seen.

  2. TheRichestManinTown says:

Fucked up comics write themselves, how about one where congressmen want people who do the right thing to get the death penalty?

  3. mbell028 says:

Def not trying to start a war on here, but I’m after watching Kick-Ass again I’m definately going to pick up Kick Ass 2 next week. Although I disliked the comic book I feel that Miller may of learned from the movie and stepped up his game for volume 2.

    • Deemar says:

      You serious?

      Miller and Learning?

      A lesson?

      Ha!

      • mbell028 says:

As long as he can write a better ending this time around I think it’ll be solid. The ending of Kick Ass in the comics was terrible. Other than that I thought it was pretty decent. Def not sure if he learned anything, but I’m certainly curious to see where he takes these characters

        • Mbell, I am completely serious when I say this: You could write a better “reality based” superhero story than Mark Millar. The new Kick Ass series is called “Balls to the Wall” for fucks sake. Do you really think it will be better? I’m not having a go at you but I think if anything it will be even MORE juvenile. Just my opinion though. I’ll be interested to hear what you think after we both have read it.

          J.

          • Deemar says:

Michael Bay of comics is so dead-on.

Am I the only one dreading Matthew Vaughn’s X-men?

            • Mbell028 says:

Only nervous in that Marvel is rushing it out like they’re doing with the Spider-Man relaunch. I think the rush will lower the quality tremendously

          • mbell028 says:

I do agree with you Jose that Miller is a pretty Juvenile writer, which is why I didnt like the first volume of Kick Ass. The first few issues of the book were very solid, but the ending was awful particularly when Kick-Ass revealed to Katie that he was not gay. Her reaction to that, which was her yelling and screaming at him and then proceeding to text him a picture of her giving a guy a blowjob was completely unrealistic, ruined the development of that character thereby ruining the book for me. All I’m saying is that I think he should of taken some notes from the movie, which I believe handled the premise Miller came up with completely better than Miller’s finished product.

If Miller follows the movie and not his comic (Which i know he won’t) I think that part two will be better than volume one. I will definately be more than happy to discuss the book with you when we’re both finished reading and I do agree with you that I will probobly fall in with you in that it’ll be bad just like the first volume. I guess I’m just trying to be a little optimistic.

On a side not I think I probobly could write a better reality based superhero book than Miller. I can’t draw worth shit though someone on here will have to that for me lol.

            • Deemar says:

It’s all shock value, Millar has yet to find his way outta those old habits.

That and he so looks down upon the readership, that “blowjobs and texting” is the only means he has of telling a story.

              • mbell028 says:

I def agree with you on that. It’s a shame that Miller is put on such a pedestal when it comes to his books. He’s given such a great opportunity to appeal to a mass audience and he decides to write shitty books that are way over the top.

    • Morlock50 says:

Aparently, the new series focuses on Hit Girl, and the bad guys recruit another 11 year old girl to kill her. So, you have two tweens going at it with swords, I guess.

  4. mbell028 says:

haha nice Jose. I may think of this before I pick it up you never know it may sway me from picking it up

  5. MicahSkin says:

Any Starcraft 2-ers on here? Lemme know. RugbySkin and I like Thors, Void Rays, Stalkers and Roaches.

  6. Deemar says:

    Open sesame!

  7. I have had this song stuck in in mind for most of the day and I have no idea way. I do own this album but I haven’t heard it in ages.

    J.

  8. mbell028 says:

I just finished reading volume one of Brubaker’s and Matt Fractions run on Immortal Iron Fist damn that book was cool I don’t know how the run ended, but I’m kinda suprised it’s not still running. I liked it because I always thought that Iron Fist and Daredevil were similar to eachother it was nice to read this book and to see how different Murdock is to Danny. I feel kinda stupid thinking they were similar.

    • Deemar says:

Yeah they really turned that character around.

I won’t spoil the ending of their run, but I’ll say it ended way too soon.

    • MicahSkin says:

What series would you like to see Fraction on? I’d like him to take a crack at the Hulk. It obviously can’t be a cast of thousands but I think it’d be decent. Also maybe Doc Sampson. Always liked him (for some damn reason)

      • Deemar says:

Fraction would be good on most of Marvel top titles, although for my money I’d like to see him take on C-D list characters.

He did wonders for Ironfist, let’s see what he could do for the Shroud or Falcon.

        • Mbell028 says:

Def second the falcon I liked him a lot when I was reading captain America. I’d like to see a falcon centered book or one for Luke cage although he is in New Avengers and Thunderbolts

          • kurumais says:

id like to see him on cap and title return to being titled cap and the falcon for a couple of years brubaker almost makes the falcon look good then bitch slaps him around like he is red shirted brother on star trek its quite frustrating
but id take a falcon solo title from fraction any day

          • TheMSpot says:

I’d rather have a Falcon back-up than a Nomad one, and if it was written by Fraction I would start picking up Cap again.

      • Stamps says:

Black Panther. I feel like he could do a lot with that character.

        • kurumais says:

now fraction on the panther would be interesting especially after iron man
in chritopher priest black panther t’challa had a nice verbal run in with tony stark and tore him to shreds it was basically the verbal equivalent to what thor did to him all the more powerful because it was true
yeah id but a fraction black panther book on pull list in a second

      • Venom829 says:

Maybe he could do Daredevil whenever Andy Diggle decides to leave that book?

  9. Deemar says:

    For me

  10. Deemar says:

    Ok this looks good!

  11. Somewhere around 30 comments ago the blog passed 30,000 total comments.

    J.

  12. Deemar says:

    Alright I’m out, Holla!

Oh yeah, Jose finish the damn script so I can letter it.

  13. Then I’m a drop a Dr Who and the Daleks Techno Remix

  14. loving the tecno beats if you had the doctor talking on that it would be so much better

    • hackslash2020 says:

That would be much better indeed. Does anyone know the original sample/scene from Doctor Who? Lol..we could also do a quiz where someone posts a technotrack and we have to guess from which movie they took the samples.

      who knows?
      sample 1 0.00-0.30
      sample 2 1.28-1.56

Shadowland #2: HUGE Improvement over #1.
DOOMWAR #6: A great event that I wouldn’t of even heard of without CCW suggesting it, thanks again guys!

    • kurumais says:

im waiting for the bargain bin but seems like doomwar started a loooong time ago
the xmen in early issues scared me away

  16. generaldark says:

i enjoyed marvel U VS. punisher, BD #7 was interesting.

  17. my picks of the week are: 3. Doomwar..it had to end..2. Punisher vs. MU and number 1. Frankencastle 19..could be from last week..but I found it just today in my bin..anyway..frankencastle 19..is a 4 issue battle only between daken wolverine and frankencastle and its..awesome..

    • when will he turn into normal punisher again beacause he’s supposed to be ok in shawdowland isn’ he i don’t know i buy to much i think i might drop shadowland

      • Venom829 says:

That really anoys me, with Marvel ignoring their own contniuity and having characters getting involved in other hero’s affairs, while they themsleves have their own problems to deal with.

        • i like when some heroes like moon knight are asked to join a team and they say “i’ve got my own problems to deal with give the characters depth unlike in avengers where one character just came back from the dead. one can’t remember the last few years of his life, one just saw his homeland destroyed by a government he now works god damn it contniuity is dead!

      • frankencastle turning into the regular version? I quote: -SPOILER- Henry, Castle’s sidekick says in this issue: With that bloodstone in your chest, this crap’ll eventually end. You’ll heal. It’s just a matter of time. He will probably return to normal after next issue.

  18. This question has been on my mind for a while: In what order would you put all of the Star Wars movies from favorite (top) to least favorite(bottom). I’ve been in a Star Wars mood lately. My order:

    1. Return of the Jedi
    2. Empire Strikes Back
    3. Revenge of the Sith
    4. A New Hope
    5. The Phantom Menace
    6. Attack of the Clones

I’m not going to count the animated Clone Wars movie because it was just 3 episodes of the show crammed into one movie that you had to pay for. Plus, it was just Lucasfilm trying to nickel and dime people. I love how my favorite 2 Star Wars movies weren’t directed by George Lucas 🙂

  19. mine is
    1.empire strikes back
    2.return of the jedi
    3.a new hope
    4.revenge of the sith
    5.the phantom menace
    6.attack of the clones

  20. 1. empire strikes back.
    2. a new hope
    3. revenge of the sith
    4. return of the jedi
    5. attack of the clones
    6. the phantom menace

  21. TheMSpot says:

Marvel U vs. The Punisher was a good start (even if it is a zombie book). I’m interested to see where he goes with this, and see if he can throw in any twists that will keep it from being a Marvel version of one of his Joe Ledger books. I don’t think that is a bad thing given that if he did a graphic novel version of those books they probably wouldn’t sells as well(fuck, now I’m thinking like a Marvel publisher or even worse a Marvel Zombie), and Marvel doesn’t even have the balls to publish a graphic novel version of one of Maberry’s books because they are better written than, lets say, any of those Stephen King adaptations.

    • Pobra says:

yeah, i really enjoyed Marvel U Vs. Punisher. Very nice art, good set up with the rivalry between Punisher and “zero” and that bit at the beginning was rather amusing 🙂
Also, it’s nice to see The Punisher as a human again.

      • Agreed. Excellent first issue. I did like the little twist toward the end of who was responsible for the outbreak.

Also, the last issue of Doomwar was awesome. Cool ending to the best mini of the year…so far. I’ll probably nominate it for a CCW Award. 🙂

        J.

        • Mike F says:

The ending to DoomWar was everything I expected and wanted. Literally, great writing. An event with class, action and a message.

          • Stamps says:

I haven’t read it yet. I’m picking up my books tomorrow and I can wait to see how the last issue wraps things up. Doomwar is one of the few books that I will later buy as a trade…Damn I’m going to miss getting this book every month.

            • mbell028 says:

My favorite part of Marvel Universe vs the Punisher was how quick they killed off Deadpool in this event. It seems that Daredevil has to appear in every marvel event and I’m glad he was used in this and immediately killed haha.

      • TheMSpot says:

I agree with you it is nice seeing The Punisher as human, and not that FrankenCastle bullshit. Also, the montage at the beginning was well done I liked the Colbert reference.

  22. TheGateJester says:

Alright a friend just sent me this vid and I need to know if this is real or not.

  23. Pobra says:

Do you guys get the show Pure Pwnage in the States? I know it started as a web series (kinda like the Canadian version of “The Guild” except no Felicia Day 😦 ) but lately they’ve been airing episodes on Showcase (kinda like the Canadian version of HBO except not as good 🙂 ).
Anyway, if you fancy yourself a video game enthusiast, i would recommend it. It’s pretty funny.
And it definitely reminds me of some people i know…

  24. Hey folks, I had a bit of news that I wanted share…

After reminding John Layman that Serrano is a pepper (remember, he said that all the characters in CHEW have food names) he announced this on Twitter:

“@themightylayman @GeekToMe Yep, you just earned yourself a guest appearance in CHEW #17… the prison romance issue, naturally! ”

Oh boy…I wonder what he has in store for my character? This should be fun.

    Elliott

  25. Adam727 says:

Jose, would you know which titles are in top 10 over at DC?

    BD
    GL
    GL Corps

  26. TheMSpot says:

I’m hoping this will be the variant cover for one of the OMIT books.

    • That’s me after reading the new issue. Christ.

      J.

      • IronMuskrat says:

        Heh!

        • Dude, IM, these books are fucking terrible. It is no laughing matter. I almost had an aneurysm during Last Rants reviewing the first issue.

          J.

          • Don’t worry J, I almost had an aneurysm myself when I reviewed the first issue myself on my blog. We Spider-man fans shouldn’t have to deal with this shit Quesada is feeding us. Seriously that man has made it his life’s mission to ruin the character of Spidey and the past few years he’s done a damn good job of it so far.

            Also… can’t wait for Last Rants 😀

            • generaldark says:

it just funny picturing jose in a spiderman costume while he reads comics XD

            • TheMSpot says:

That’s why Invincible is where I get my teen superhero fix from now. I don’t think Dan Slott can fix what Quesada has broken, and that’s pretty much why I given up on the book.

              • Yeah at first I thought Slott would for sure fix Spidey, but after reading what I have of Grim Hunt, Gauntlet, and OMIT my faith in Dan Slott has taken a beating. I’ll still buy the first few issues of his run, but he may need a miracle to fix what has been broken.

              • Deemar says:

I’m gonna give his ASM a try, it has three of my favorite artists and my favorite writer.

What’s the worst that could happen?

                • IMO the worst possible case scenario is if Quesada does what he did with some of JMS’ ASM stories by pissing in them. Hopefully Quesada will stay away from ASM forever after OMIT.

                  • all that aside I’m looking forwars to Slott’s run on ASM and the artists lined up for his run are some of my favs. Here’s to a great and hopefully long run for Dan Slott!

                  • Deemar says:

Damn you got a point, if Quesada would stick his grubby hands into JMS’s stories (A Name Guy!) he’s definately gonna fuck with Slott’s stuff.

                    😦

                    • TheMSpot says:

No doubt about it, and that is the worst that can happen. Nothing has stopped him in the past so what will stop him from continuing. As long as it’s selling Quesada will continue, and that is why as long a Quesada is there Spidey is dead to me. It pains me to say that.

                      I need a drink.

                    • I’m already way ahead of you MSpot.

                      J.

          • IronMuskrat says:

I believe you Jose, sometimes I feel bad benefiting from your pain, but it’s through your sacrifice that I avoid total crap comics..

and for that I thank you =)

            IM

  27. Dear lord, I am 75 hours into Final Fantasy XIII and I THINK I am finally at the ending. Fingers crossed.

    • Sounds like a great day to be Micah. 🙂

In all honesty though, I was very happy to hear the news about Prop 8 in Cali today. It made living in this fucking terrible world a little bit better…if only for a moment.

      J.

  30. Like MSpot I’m hoping this will be an OMIT varian cover as well:

  31. mbell028 says:

anyone here finish reading Marvel Universe vs. the Punisher that shit was awesome as hell. I hope Eliiot and Jose review that book. I’d be very curious what you guys thought of it. I’ll def have to pick up Doomwar once it goes to trades.

  32. Adam727 says:

Did anyone read the finale of Doom War?

  33. generaldark says:

i think im going to re read marvel vs punisher before i go to bed 🙂 wow i think maberry must think we are major ass kissers or something lol. goodnight.

  34. How far will CBR crawl up Joey Q’s ass? Let’s see.

Yup, they are in there pretty deep, aren’t they?

    J.

  35. hackslash2020 says:

But thats the opposite of Doomwar’s ending. Even if the villain deserves punishment…we are not savages 🙂

  36. i don’t get that so now all the characters in that are normal again and don’t kill?
    WTFUCK

  37. sorry i hit submit then went back and submitted again

  38. Insideman says:

Okay, finally got that ANGRY BLUNT OBJECT of a new post written.

Here’s the title: It’s MILLAR Slime!

    http://wp.me/pZr1Y-VT

Bet you’ll never guess what it’s about! 😉

    • Mike F says:

DAMN IT INSIDEMAN! I just went so long without thinking about Millarrrrrr ughhhhhhh

still a good article tho man.

      • Insideman says:

Mike, the books in the HUGE “To Read” stack often GUTS me too.

But I have to read them– as the stack demands it.

Apologies for taking you down as well. 😉

  39. Stamps says:

I don’t know if anybody saw this and posted it yet but now you can own your own CHEW tshirt…with Poyo on it!!!

    http://chewcomic.blogspot.com/2010/08/poyo-shirts-on-sale.html

    • I have mine already. I had Elliott buy me one while he was in San Diego. It’s very nice and awesome.

      J.

      • Insideman says:

I know you can’t expect every creator you love to give you and Elliott EVERYTHING you’d covet gratis… But the shirts should have been a treat.

I mean, John can’t SWAY you with SWAG… You’ve both already expressed your UNDYING devotion… Long BEFORE such a shirt ever existed. 🙂

      • Stamps says:

Cool. I can’t wait until I get mine in.

  40. Adam727 says:

    Doom War was awesome!

Jose, did you manage to read spider-man 639?

    Holy crapfest, Batman!

  41. Insideman says:

Jose, here’s another “review” to CHEW on from some of your “favorite” reviewers!

    Gosh, they drive me CRACKERS!

    Shadowland Bullseye #1
    story by John Layman
    art by Sean Chen

Admittedly bias toward all things Daredevil, I do still possess enough artistic objectivity to be able to smell it before I step in it. So, let me be the first to say, please be sure to wipe your feet before coming in the house. There was so much squandered potential here I lack the time and pages to regal you with this tale of woe. The story was incredibly weak, ESPECIALLY given that this was meant to be some kind of a send off to a character who truly has been arguably one of the Marvel U’s greatest villains. And to add insult to injury, Ben Urich as a main character was completely wasted given their history. The art isn’t really even worth noting either other than to say the books best image was one that we’ve seen in a couple of other books already. If you insist on reading this anyway, please, borrow my copy and save your money.

    • would you let me borrow your copy. oh wait the postage wouldn’t be worth it never mind by the way liked your millar post on your blog.

    • Insideman says:

That was NOT my review above… That was SOMEBODY ELSE’S review… I was just passing it along to Jose. 😉

      • Insideman says:

I REPEAT, I did NOT write the review above!!! This was the WORK PRODUCT of someone else… Reprinted simply to give Jose something to compare HIS REVIEW to!

        I’d like to think MY REVIEWS aren’t so cliche-ridden! 🙂 🙂 🙂

        • I do not agree at all with the above “review” but will say that the issue WAS completely unnecessary.

          J.

          • Morlock50 says:

I have to say I was impressed with Layman’s writing style, considering I don’t care about Daredevil or Bullseye one bit. The POV of Ben Ulrich and the kid was very good. Agree with Insider about the art though. Typical Marvel style. Blah!

      • Morlock50 says:

        Who wrote that review?

    • Deemar says:

      Sooo….you give it a A+

      ?

  42. Pobra says:

So, i went against my better judgment and picked up Shadowland #2. Much to my delight it was waaayyyyyy better than #1, even Tan’s art didn’t seem quite as awful. Diggle, you may have just won me back. Two words, GHOST RIDER! So awesome…
And then there’s omit part 2… yep, there it is… fuck you Joe Q, fuck you.

  43. Man, Chris Matthews is schooling people left and right today on Hardball. Haven’t seen him this fired up in a while.

    J.

    • Deemar says:

Watching it now, Matthews is a stand up dude.

The Meet the Press guy showed his hand and I think he leans left.

The Right is about to lose Hispanics/Latinos, man they can’t see the forrest for the trees.

  44. Deemar says:

Bought Batman: Under the Hood today and wow…it’s good!

Judd Winick,I’m…sorry your in my good graces.

  45. Dre says:

Hi, there. For a few weeks now I’ve been looking to buy the Frank Miller DD omnibus but have had quite the hard time finding a copy that isn’t exorbitantly priced even when used. A short time ago I mamanged to find a sealed, brand new copy going for about $300.00 on ebay and another, whose condition is largely unceraint until the seller replies to my email, at about $209.00. There are cheaper copies online going for about $1.30 but their condidtion is likely poor and the more expensive couple I mentioned have the more favored red and black cover. Any advice on which I should purchase or not purchase at all?

Jose, would you happen to have a copy lying around the shop anywhere?

    • I’m sorry to say we don’t. We sold out a while ago and the book is now out of print, hence to ridiculous prices for it. You should head over to Insideman’s blog and ask him how to find a cheaper copy. He is really good at hunting down those types of books.

      J.

You’ve done the obvious, the only other thing I can think of is to maybe contact someone who’s selling they’re collection (craigslist,U-tube etc),but that can be ‘iffy’.Awhile back I tried to find a HC copy of Electra Lives, anything decent was going for over $100. I said screw it, a fair copy will turn up somewhere eventually.

A little off topic, but my favorite story from Frank’s original DD run was issue #191. It’s a thoughtful piece about violence and the nature of pop culture action heroes. I really wish he would do more stories like that instead of saying that Batman vs Riddler is silly, but Batman-like heroes vs Bin Ladin is on target.

    • Insideman says:

I just looked around Jose and I believe Dre is going for the copy from an Amazon Seller. He claims mint in the listing and has excellent feedback.

That is the absolute lowest price I could find. Amazon will also help (somewhat) with the purchase if something were to happen.

Check into it Dre. I don’t know the seller but it seems like a good bet.

      • Dre says:

Yep. That’s the one I was initially going for but before I went through with the purchase for that price I wanted to browse the net a little more and throw out some inquiries to see If I’d find it any cheeper anywhere else. So far all I’ve managed to find are some in worse condition for not much less money at all and more expensive copies. Ahhh, well. Thanks for your effort, Insideman!

Wyclef Jean is going to run for president of Haiti. I’m of two minds, one hand COOL! It’s not like Arnold or Sonny Bono had experience before they ran for office. On the other, my cynical side is like Bono was mayor of Palm Springs and it’s not like Arnold has exactly saved California. That country is so devastated right now and it will definitely get worse before it gets better. I know Wyclef was some sort of quasi-ambassador but can he really get a fix on things?

Anyway watch this cool vid, if you blink you’ll miss the Bob Dylan cameo.

    • Deemar says:

I don’t know how to feel about it one way or the other, I just hope who ever leads Haiti next does that nation right.

So has anyone been reading Keith Giffen and J. M. Demattis run on Booster Gold? I was wondering if it was any good.

Can someone explain to me the bad mouthing by reviewers on other sites of Doomwar.

    • Venom829 says:

They don’t know what good comics are…end of story!

    • Who’s bad mouthing Doomwar now? Link please.

We will be reviewing this next week and as far as I am concerned ours is one of the few that matters when it comes to this title.

      J.

      • Mike F says:

Comic Book Resource gave it like 1 and a half stars or something. I don’t care really, actually, I prefer it, I won’t have to worry about it getting overrated and hearing dumbass xbots rave about it. Let them have their Millar and Bendis, I’ll Keep DOOMWAR to myself ^_^

        • Just read it. Let’s take a look at some of this reviewers other review scores, shall we?

          Brightest Day #7- 4 1/2 stars
          Green Lantern #56- 4 stars
          Artifacts #1- 4 stars
          JLA #47- 3 stars

To me ALL of those books (which I DID read) were complete shit, especially the one he gave the highest rating to. There are other books that I buy that be gave high scores to but they are books CBR just WON’T give low scores to.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again: CBR, Comicsvine, Newsarama and IGN reviews at this juncture are fucking POINTLESS. I will not go into detail yet again why.

The review of Doomwar completely misses the point of the entire series and the fact that CBR let that review be published is a fucking disgrace. They should be ashamed of themselves. Also, the fact that hardly anyone over there actually knows what a good comic is just sad.

          J.

          • I will also add these other scores from CBR this week:

            Avengers Prime #2- 4 stars
            Ultimate Avengers 2 #6- 3 and 1/2 stars
            Amazing Spider-Man #639- 3 and 1/2 stars

That should put into context what these guys think are good comics. Again, every one of those comics on that list were horse shit in my opinion. Especially that Avengers Prime issue. You want to talk about fucking pointless and writing for the trade.

            J.

            • Venom829 says:

Well at least at the CCW blog, we have people who can actually see the difference between good and bad comics! 🙂

            • Insideman says:

Actually, it also puts into perspective what makes good ECONOMIC SENSE for CBR, Newsarama, etc, etc.

One of main reasons to trust your opinions (other than you are cool, straight-forward people) is the fact that you guys are NOT ad supported. As long as these other goons make their living off of sites that are COMIC BOOK PUBLISHER AD SUPPORTED– there will ALWAYS be pressure to SKEW review grades HIGHER.

I know this from experience. I was a major film reviewer (under an alias) for a national magazine for several years. My Editor would call in me in periodically and say, “We haven’t seen a pull quote from you in a while.” In other words, my reviews weren’t being quoted in MOVIE ADS… Which didn’t expose the magazine I worked for as much.

I said, “That’s because everything that has been coming out is SHIT and you know it.”

Didn’t faze her. She said, “Well couldn’t you just throw SALES and CORPORATE a bone now and then?”

And I said, “I tell you what. If you can get “X” actress to show up at my house ready to BLOW ME– I’ll write a review about “X” movie that will be legendary.”

“X” actress was knocking on my door 2 days later. Hollywood (and ANY creative industry) likes to act like reviews aren’t important… But they know different.

I’ve written two specific hardcover reviews on my blog in about 2 1/2 weeks. ONE was positive. I know for a fact (because I have the emails to prove it) that 9 people have bought the book because of my review… Imagine that… As my site understandably receives a fraction of the hits this Blog does.

The difference between a comic book staying afloat or dying is only a couple of thousand copies now. (Used to be marked by TENS OF THOUSANDS). But if a good selling book sells 16K to 20K copies… And Jose & Elliott’s positive reviews are responsible for 500 to 1,000 (or more) copies being sold from all the hits here and their CCW*TV You Tube channel… They ACTUALLY MAKE QUITE A DIFFERENCE in many people’s lives.

That’s why it is so GREAT that they take their reviews SO SERIOUSLY. It’s also why we can trust them over the fluff and puff those other bullshit sites spew.

(And no, to answer the inevitable question– I did NOT write the film review based on sexual favors from Actress “X” either… I wrote the review the film deserved. Period.)

              • good on you insideman although you can’t tell i’m clapping right now if i ever had any comic out i would ask the guys on here for a hand.

they’ve done wonders for all sorts of writers and artists most notabley chew john layman and rob gillorey owe them a lot.

i personaly have to thank elliot and jose and everyone who comments on here beacause of the guys on here i’ve branced out i used to be a marvel zombie before i started watching this show and if it wasn’yt for the people on here i wouldn’t be reading chew, mystery society, turf, shield ,generation lost, fantastic four, secret warriors, and probably more so let me just say to everyone on here THANK YOU ALL!

                • Locusmortis says:

It’d be nice to think that something you’ve wrote has made any kind of difference at all.

The most you can do is write about the books you care about and that interest you and get the name out there. sometimes it takes a while for interest to build in something but eventually if something is good enough it will come to peoples attention.

It’s funny I went to a Barnes & Noble at a mall today because I had time to kill before I went to see a movie, and I flipped through a copy the Hotwire trade because it had Ellis’ name on it. After your review I may pick it up.

Did anyone watch CBR TV @ CCI: Robert Kirkman? Best part is the little jab at Mark Millar.

there is one girl in the show she is always stoned in a strange very perona related way it cracks me up it was a nice touch the writers of the anime added it works really well
