  1. WTF why was there 3 different Open Threads just then?

  2. I’ve been reading Keith Giffen’s Doom Patrol. That is a great book. Matthew Clark’s art helps a lot as well. Plus the Metal Men back-up is sheer fun! 🙂

  3. J, are we the only ones here???

I’ve started watching Gordon Ramsay’s Great Escape. Very interesting indeed. Reminds me of the videos I’d watch in my World History class, only a lot more interesting and more vulgar 🙂

  4. I’m reading the first issue of JMS’ Brave and the Bold. It just keeps getting better and better as I keep going. Also I love when the guy says, “Even Batman can’t be in two places at the same time… let alone three or four.” Suck on THAT Wolverine and Deadpool!

  5. I hate to leave you hanging here alone Jose, but I gotta go to bed now. Good night! Take care!

  6. Pobra says:

    Scott Pilgrim ftw???

    • agent42q says:

dude the second time was even better! Started connecting things I missed the first time. I’m still missing the X-strike though.

    • Gonna see it tomorrow.

      J.

      • cballsack says:

I probably won’t see it til next week, maybe even the weekend after that.

        • Playin’ it cool, huh?

          J.

          • cballsack says:

Waiting on my friend to drive down from CT to see it. I wanna see it with someone who will appreciate it and I’m pretty sure she will.

            • Oh…that’s different. Cool. And seeing it with a girl who will appreciate it?

              J.

              • cballsack says:

Yeah, my friend Jessie. She doesn’t collect comics but she appreciates them and she’s read copies that friends have loaned her. I saw Watchmen with her and she really enjoyed it. I nearly saw it with this other chick Tina. So glad I didn’t cuz she saw it with someone else and hated it, said it was one of the worst movies she’s ever seen. That would have vexed me greatly.

          • Insideman says:

I always wait at least two weeks to see movies now. One, if it sucks it won’t be there in 2 weeks. Two, it’s usually nowhere near as crowded.

I used to go to Academy screenings but I hated having to be there right at 7:30pm. Those days, I was always late to everything and they do NOT let you in past 7:30pm.

Plus– NO popcorn. I hate that.

Remind me to tell you the details where I got so disgusted with a film, I got up in the middle and WALKED OUT OF IT… As it seemed that everybody connected to it– including all the SUITS– were all focused on us leaving.

Nothing like having the President of 20th Century Fox etc., etc., burning a hole through your soul as you walk out on THEIR movie in a packed movie theater.

Good news was– after my little show (and all I did was walk out, NOTHING else… But you would have thought I was killing somebody)– about 20 more people grew the balls to bail… And we were all still having cigarettes & chatting out on the sidewalk when it was over.

            • Pobra says:

The only movies i’ve ever bailed on were Problem Child 2 and Lord of the Rings. I kid you not.

            • bet ya it was x-men origins wasn’t it i walked out of that. what else did i walk out of shrek 4,epic movie, disaster movie and the last airbender

              • Ugh, disaster movie was utterly horrible. I didn’t see it in theaters, but I watched the first 20 minutes of it and couldn’t take much more. No movie has ever pushed me that far before. Some have gotten pretty damn close, but man was disaster movie awful. Shame on everyone who’s going to see Vampires Suck.

                • i went to see the a-team and they showed the trailer for vampire’s suck and my friend said that’ll be good and i was so angry and dissapointed. but all i said was “the only funny bits are in the trailer”

why does the studio go well they fucked up the last 6 films those guys did but scary movie was good have another

                  • I saw the trailer for Vampires Suck at my friend’s house and felt like vomiting afterward. How these guys can still produce crap after crap after crap boggles my mind.

                    • Venom829 says:

I saw a tv spot of it, and the second it came on, I didn’t allow the next 30 sec. of my life to be butchered, I changed the channel faster than superman can fly 😛

                    • Guys, I just looked at the comment section for a Vampires Suck trailer and people think it’s going to be great?!? Have they not learned ANYTHING from Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans and Disaster Movie??? Guess people don’t like thoughtful movies anymore. WHAT’S GOING ON WITH PEOPLE!!!???

                    • megamanx4ever says:

That piece of shit Vampires Suck movie looks terrible and all my freinds that I talked to said it looked good! What the fuck is wrong with people?!?!!?!

            • Stamps says:

What movie was it? You’ve made me curious now.

The only movie I’ve ever walked out of was The Break-Up.

              • phil says:

Wow. now that was the only Jennifer Anniston movie that I wanted to check out. Vince Vaughn was the reason I wanted to see it though. Wedding Crashers I thought was hilariou. I figured The Break- up would follow suit. Hmm..I might still peep it out on DVD.

                • Venom829 says:

What was the name of the one where she was with Owen Wilson, and there was a dog that died at the end of it, and t was so BORRRRRIIIIINNNGGGGG…………………..

                • Stamps says:

Well it actually played out like this. When I saw it in the theater, I thought it sucked. I mean I HATED it with a passion. That’s why I walked out half way through. Then later after it came out I was watching a bunch of movies with friends and they were bound and determined to watch The Break Up. Needless to say I wasn’t excited. When I gave it another try though and was forced to sit all the way through it I found that I liked it quite well.

The ending really made that movie. I retrospect I should have stayed all the way to the end the first time. Now I think of the movie pretty highly.

Taught me a lesson about walking out of movies that for sure.

                  • Venom829 says:

It is on the chick flick side of movies, I watched at a friends place, and whole bunch of us were there, and there were only 2 girls, and it was like they were punishing us for something 😉

                  • I have never walked out of a movie ever and I have seen some seriously bad shit.

                    J.

                    • Venom829 says:

Wow. You must put yourself thru ALOT of pain! No wonder you drink!!! 😛

                    • cballsack says:

It’s tough to walk out of any movie when you plopped down 12 bucks to see it. Even if it sucks, you want your money’s worth.

                    • Insideman says:

You go right to the box office or get an usher and kindly ask them to issue you a refund. As long as it isn’t the end of the movie, you have a right to request a refund,

I’ve done it. More than once.

                    • SmokeyClocks says:

Be Cool is the only movie i ever walked out of, and that was after i fell asleep for half and hour and the shit was still going on

                  • phil says:

For me, it’s kinda the opposite. I checked out Ironman 2 determined to stay after the credits as I’m known to do when I get a heads up.
Now I stayed thru 2, maybe 3 psuedo classical numbers… only to witness when the flick came back on that apparently Lego’s struck a deal with Mattel to fashion a BS Hammer.

  7. TheRichestManinTown says:

You know you’ve watched too much Dune when. . .

  8. phil says:

As a result of Elliot’s poll as to how E should meet his demise by John Layman… came the birth of this fan fiction. To those that have a wandering eye, if you stop on this, let me know what you think?

  13. Pobra says:

Are agent42 and I seriously the only ones here who have seen Scott Pilgrim so far?? What is wrong with you people!? 😛
I’ll wait until more of you have seen it before discussing it here. So please, GO SEE IT!!!

  14. Looks like I’ll have to give Batgirl a try come November.

One of my faveroite shows when I was a kid and still is one of my faveorite shows.

    • You and me both megamanx4ever! I loved this show. It wasn’t afraid to push the boundaries of children’s shows and was a great spin on the character of Batman. Is there a website where you can watch this for free? I know youtube used to have episodes but they were taken down 😦

  16. Insideman says:

Mike F gets his first article posted on the Swear All You Like blog:

  20. Deemar says:

    Just the factz miam

  21. Edward2962 says:

Phil! What did we do to piss off the embed gods? I wanna make it right!

  22. Deemar says:

Phil you might dig this guy!

Eugene McDaniels the most sampled guy in music.

    • phil says:

His song here sounds like from a 70’s soundtrack….
I here a little bit of Gil Scott in his delivery
Vocally he puts me in the mind of Bobby Womack a little fused with a bit of Al Jerreau
and a touch of Funkadelic instrumentally, with a jazz mindset.

  23. Deemar says:

See if you can figure out what songs sampled this diddy.

By the by the song is about Mick Jagger

    • phil says:

A very haunting song. Could have fit in well with the soundtrack to Def By Temptation
As for did some sampling, I have no idea, but as far as the vibe goes…it sounds like something Basehead or Outkast could’ve flowed to easily. Even Jill Scott sounds like she could have pulled a li’l sumptin’ sumptin’ from this number.

  24. Pobra says:

anyone in the mood for some old school Canadian hip-hop? I used to love this album.

  25. Deemar says:

Man I am in a funktastic mood!

  26. Deemar says:

    A little Afro-latino swing

  27. Deemar says:

OK…Phil this is the creme de le creme

    Gil Scott Heron

  28. kurumais says:

My book of the week – marvel adventures 5 starring captain America teaming up with the rhino to rescue a baby rhino from hydra paul tobin writes terrific one and done comics and chris cross draws a great book just check this book out you wont be disappointed on how cool and fun it is.

Thanos imperative – lanning and abbnett continue to make marvel space big and brutal and the heroes of these stories really have to work their hardest to achieve even a modicum of victory. Their writing makes it feel like its all and the line and the whole universe is seconds away from disaster. I also appreciate marvel stopped the guardian of galaxy and nova monthlies, when they started this series and we don’t have 3 or 4 spinoff books to buy either.

Batgirl I just love this book just fun gotham crime fighting adventures. And holy smokes they did a one and done I thought those were illegal in the main universes!

BoP very odd ending not crazy about it Some nice canary moments
    Nice starman and gl panel

Buzzard eric powell gives you beautiful horrific stories in this book

The the mighty avenger I buy this book for my nephew but I have enjoyed every issue
A very fun loki in this version . any comic that uses the word palooka to good effect is top notch in my book . it’s a fresh and old school appeal at the same time .
Im really enjoying reading whole stories in one issue

Emerald warriors no real complaints a solid book for fans who want more green lantern in their lives I used to be a guy gardner fan this book just didn’t feel like the old guy I knew and loved

    • Deemar says:

I dig it, ready for Cosmic Avengers, Kuy?

      • kurumais says:

dee that group is craaaaazy i want to see them in action
is that the most powerful team you ever saw?

        • Deemar says:

I gotta say that is probaly the most stacked super team in comics.

I mean christ, from Beta Ray Bill to Silver Surfer that is a mad powerful team.

My greatest fear though is Joe Quesada is starting to turn his attention slowly to the Cosmicverse. It’s only a matter of time before he fucks that up.

          • kurumais says:

things are going along very well as is lets hope they stay that way to abbnett and lanning decide they are done and told all the stories they want

  29. Edward2962 says:

How’s this? Some folks might be mad cuz Tupac is sacred, but I think they did a decent job.

  30. Pobra says:

Damn it, ok, have to try again… third time’s a charm, c’mon…

  31. Venom829 says:

I can’t wait to get into my new apartment at the end of this month! I can’t stand the kitchen water, it reeks of feces when I try to wash my dishes (metaphorically speaking of coarse) 😛

  32. Deemar says:

    I like the Rascalz

    Similiar to…

  33. Deemar says:

Ok…Heres some guys you all need to pay attention too

    underground for real

  34. kurumais says:

i really realy like TIMEBOMB the episode from angel season 5

“maybe now isnt the best time for when you were muck stories”

“its not murder if you say yes”

why is it that every crazy thing that happenes in a joss whedon show makes perfect sense?

  35. Edward2962 says:

    Just for old times sake…

I bet nobody remembers that mini-series where Luke Cage had a fade…

  36. Deemar says:

    I back!

Needed some fuel, brotha gotta eat.

    What I miss?

  37. I’m going to start watching the Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker animated movie right now. I’m expecting a great movie if the show is any indication!

  38. You guys are fucking killing me with all of these dead video links.

    J.

  39. I just posted a Scott Pilgrim open thread so if you would like to talk about the movie please do so over there.

    J.

    • I haven’t seen the movie yet 😦 I want to soon. Do I need to read the book before I see the movie?

Good news is I’m finally watching Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker! It only took me, what, about 10 years?! 😀

      • You can see the movie without reading the books but you would probably enjoy it more if you did I guess. I saw the movie with Avi and he really liked it. Now he wants to read the comics.

        J.

        • I will always kick myself in the nuts for not buying Scott Pilgrim vol. 1 for $2 when I had the chance 😦 I kept seeing it at the store for that price and then the day I told myself I was going to buy it, it was gone 😦 I was so mad at myself.

          • Insideman says:

I’m mad at you 2! Go bang your head on the wall a couple of times and then come back and tell us if you feel better.

If you remember how to use a computer, that is. 🙂

And P.S. I know you’re young CBD– but if this is the worst thing that upsets you for, let’s say, the next 10 years… You are doing VERY WELL my man!~

            • Unfortunately Insideman that is far from the worst thing that upsets me 😦

I have type 1 diabetes, so everyday there is SOMETHING for my parents to nag me about and SOMETHING that upsets me. Thank God for comic books! If it weren’t for them I’d be very bored and life wouldn’t be as fun. I’m sure I would’ve found something else to occupy my time, but I’m glad I grew an interest in comics!

              • Insideman says:

Yeah, diabetes DEFINITELY sucks. I have a friend who is a nurse who worked in a PEDIATRIC DIALYSIS clinic at the huge LA Children;s Hospital for about 14 years. I know the stories and I know they ain’t fun.

I’m glad you like comics too. I know that if I hadn’t had them when I was growing up I would have had SERIOUS problems.

Course now that they $3.99 I’d have to knock over liquor stores just to pay for them if I were your age! 🙂

              • Deemar says:

                Wow sorry to hear that.

stay fit my man and all will be well.

  40. Insideman says:

Jose Melendez writes for MY BLOG!

I bow to the MASTER: http://wp.me/pZr1Y-10M

    Read it!

  41. Just finished watching Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. That was really, really good! I’m glad I stayed up late to watch it. My favorite part is when Terry makes the Joker crazy by laughing at him. Any other good animated DC or Marvel movies I should watch? I REALLY want to see Batman: Under the Hood because I loved both stories the movie is based on.

    • Adam727 says:

It was pretty good. The only thing I didn’t like about it was voice actor who voiced The Joker. Mark Hamil has been awesome voicing The Joker since I started watching the anime series back in the early 90’s.

      • i think i got used to the joker voice by the end of the film. what i liked was the way he didn’t copy anyone he had his own style, the laugh really sold it for me and hammil couldn’t do it beacause he’s doing the dc universe online and arkham city the last voice work he’s doing for the joker so get used to other people doing the voice

        • Adam727 says:

That’s your opinion and you have every right to it. I know Mark and Kevin are busy doing other projects, which is cool. But IMO, Dimaggio just didn’t fit as The Joker for me. Maybe ’cause I’m use to him from Gears of War.

    • Edward2962 says:

Crisis on Earth Two is good. Public Enemies was ok.Lex on kryptonite steroids makes me laff.

    • kurumais says:

crisis on two earths was good the green lantern was good once sinestro gets going
wonder woman was very good hulk vs was pretty good especially the asgard parts
i liked the next avengers the one about the kids of the avengers but it was aimed at kids

  42. Insideman says:

Me want Golgo 13: Collection 1 DVD based on the manga.

Me NOT want to pay $51 like here:

    HELP ME!

  43. I’m trying to decide what DC animated film I should watch tonight: Batman- Mask of the Phantasm or Crisis on Two Earths. Aw, screw it! I’ll watch ’em both tonight! My Grandma is in the hospital, so I need to get my mind off my life right now 😦 Thankfully she’s only expected to saty for a few days, but still… it sucks.

    • Edward2962 says:

HA! That’s not Marc Spector, it’s NEMESIS! It’s like DC said, “If you little fuggers want Batman in a white suit, HERE’S Batman in a white suit!”

  46. Mike F says:

    http://www.comicvine.com/news/will-batman-become-a-white-lantern/141882/

GUYS, if this REALLY happens, I swear to Buddha I will drop Superhero comics. I mean it. Please. Stop all this nonsense.

  47. phil says:

    Okay…I guess I’m missing something;
@ M-spot: From what I’ve read this appears to simply a Brightest Day deal that at the most might spill over to a couple of Bats issues. It doesn’t seem to be an announcement that this is what Bruce will be wearing from now on ( even though I did wish that he never left MK )

@ Mike F: Is it the suit or the White Lantern thing?
