just the paused image youtube gave caught my attention… whose the actress that plays Sophie i remember her from some other movie i just cant put my finger on it?
So, Rockband Band 3 is going to have songs from Tegan and Sara, Metric, The Smiths, The Cure, The Sounds, Roxette, Rilo Kiley, The Ranvenettes, John Lennon, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, The Doors and The B-52’s (almost all of these bands are a first for the series)? AND they are introducing keyboards into the game play? Sign me the fuck up right now! This is my NEW must have game of the year.
Did I mention Tegan and Sara music is in the game? So cool.
‘Bout time Big Country got some recognition/exposure to a younger audience. People used to rip into them for their bag-pipe guitar sound, but The Crossing and Steeltown are amazing albums and sound fresher today than ever
Ultraviolet!YEAH! Kurt Wimmer wrote the story for Salt starring Angelina Jolie. It is by no means original or daring, but it’s an ok summer flick if you catch it at a discount/matinee. He also directed a better movie called Equilibrium starring Christian Bale and Taye Diggs. Taye is meh, but the film on a whole is enjoyable. Very 1984/Brave New World with maybe a slight dash of matrix.
What Smiths song in the new rock band? I hope it’s not How Soon is Now. I like that song but it’s the most over used Smiths song out there.
Power of Love…I’m not hating but when folks make fun of the 80’s for being bland, it’s stuff like that they’re talking about. And Michael J Fox… (but I’m not hatin’)
Second, I am a fan of Kurt Wimmer. Saw both of his movies opening night in the theater. Talk about a guy who got fucked over by Hollywood.
Third, Power of Love is part of my childhood. The Smiths and The Cure are 80’s too. You calling them “bland”? I could probably name 50 more bands from the 80’s that weren’t bland. 😛
Yeah, the 80’s was a genius period for music (except for fucking Stock Aitken Waterman shit), music started getting crap around 1995 except for underground stuff.
I just checked out the list (which is what I probably should’ve done before I commented). Strangeways is my favorite Smiths album. No, I was not calling Smiths or Cure bland cuz they are part of my youth as well. Hell,my favorite music, comics etc mostly came out in the 80’s-90’s. I wasn’t calling the 80’s bland ( I’ll see yer 50 and raise ya 30 more bands) I was calling “power of love” bland. The best Huey Lewis song is “working for a living”! (smiley face)
And since nobody asked me THIS is the Queen song they SHOULD’VE picked…
Now, on to important things like what was up with Bob Layton deciding that the Beast shouldn’t have fur in X-Factor? And Tigra growing a tail in West coast Avengers? And don’t tell me you missed that bit with the CIA guy and the coke at the end of LongBow Hunters… Hey remember when MTV showed music videos? Me neither… (smiley face again)
I thought it was neat when they switched Beast back to his more human form. That’s the Beast I first knew and I kinda missed it. Pity it didn’t last long.
Man I need to read stuff sober, I think they should just allow Hank to change back and forth freely from blue and fut=rry to normal, the way he can like be a spy and be human and turn into a lion like battlecat in Heman to be rode by Storm in a thong.
Huey’s first three albums were the ones I was really into. Fore! was alright. I think Working for a Living was on his second album. Man I really want to go back a listen to those now.
No question the man was in the groove back then. Some say he never left it… Although his head got a little large when he tried acting– which didn’t work out.
I probably would have never initiated putting on Huey Lewis for fear of being stoned, but since our esteemed host was digging him, I’ll put down my favorite News song. Although one could argue they were the ……….. well (t)hicle (r)ack of their day 🙂
Just watched 500 days of summer last night this songs stuck in my head which isnt a bad thing. This and Fuck me Ray Bradbury are two songs I can’t stop thinking about lol
Yeah definately hate to be a bit of a sheep but as soon as I saw this movie I downloaded the smiths greatest hits I had never heard of them before this movie I’m glad I did they’re awesome
I don’t know if anyone here’s ever heard this band but there pretty fantastic they just came out with a new cd two weeks ago. Their new and first album are really good highly recommended
As fans of The Smiths, what do you make of these guys? They are blatant imitators, but they do write good songs. I’ve had this discussion about music that is completely derivative with friends over the years. If the songs are good, should it really matter who wrote them. In this case, does the fact that Morrisey/Marr didn’t write this affect your opinion of the song?
Wow, that’s interesting. That’s the first I have heard of Northern Portait. Ya, they sound very heavily influenced by The Smiths but I liked it. I may even buy that album now. It was a good song. As long as they admit to being influenced by The Smith’s I really don’t have a problem with it. Good music is good music. The only problem (if I had to have one) I would have with it is people, who really like their music, may not know who The Smith’s are and think this band is doing something “original”. Another newish band that sounds like an older band is “Black Kids”. They sound a hell of a lot like The Cure.
I really liked that second song you posted too. Thatnks for letting know about these bands. Any day I can find out about good new music is a good day.
We’re on the same page. Most of the people I’ve had this conversation with are of the “they sound like someone else…they suck” mindset. Most of those people are frustrated musicians, so that may explain it somewhat. I understand where they’re coming from, it’s just never bothered me. If it’s good and they’re honest about their influences, more power to ’em.
I’ll have to check out “Black Kids”. The name seems familiar but I haven’t heard the music.
I should have said the Black Kids lead singer sounds a hell of a lot like Robert Smith. Their music sounds like the later Cure suff. Like the album “The 13th”.
I actually read that book during study hall one year the first 20 minutes of study hall we had to read and not do homework…study hall and you can’t do homework god my school was retarded.
Not really. Met Daniel Logan (baby Boba Fett) and a bunch of wrestlers. E and I had lunch with the director and producer of documentary The People vs George Lucas (which we are briefly in). That was he highlight of the day.
Really, is was the worst convention I have ever been to.
Actually, ya, he was. He was a pretty down to earth kid. The interview he did with E was probably the best one from today. He just seemed to be having fun at the con and seemed to really like meeting the Star Wars fans.
You guys are in The People Vs George Lucas? That’s pretty cool. I was just discussing that documentary last night with a friend of mine. I need to see it.
Hey what’s up everybody? My local comic shop let me know that they sell customers item’s on ebay and they only take 10 percent of the money it makes. I’m interested in doing this, but I know that most comics don’t really sell for a lot I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on the kind of books I should look through my collection to sell.
I was thinking on selling them in bundles in order to raise the prices. I have the first five issues of Dark Avengers (can’t wait to sell these shittty books) I have all the issues of Secret Invasion (issue 1 and 2 I have variant and regular covers), I also have all the issues of Blackest Night. I was also interested in selling all the issues of Secret Warriors (1-15).
I know this is kinda of a weird post but I’d really appreciate any help I can get I need to make some money because I’ve been spending so much on comic books lately and schools about to start up so i need to buy textbooks,
THanks guys,
Matt
that’s what I figured It just bothers me that I have all these books and I know I’m never going to read them again. I may just give them a few of my books see how it goes and if it doesn’t work out I’ll just hang onto them and let them collect dust.
All that stuff sounds good to sell. I think you’re right in selling them in bundles. I think people are tempted to pick up whole runs rather than sporadic issues.
that’s what I figured I was looking through my collection and saw Greg Rucka’s Batwoman and the complete run of Captain Britain MI: 13. I got mad at myself for actually thinking for a second on getting rid of these.
actually working on finishing a pitcher of bud light myself one of the advantages of living with your parents at 22 they have a kegarator so I get to enjoy all the free beer I want. Small price to pay for not having any plans tonight
they are pretty awesome. I wish my dad did Juengling instead of Bud Light, but beggars can’t be choosers I’ll get drunk either way it may take a few more beers to do it though
wow thanks Deemar I have no idea how to thank I’m just glad that I was able to contribute to such an awesome thing as Red and Beans. I’ll be sure to remind you tommorrow I need the credit or I’ll be in the bar 10 years from now mad that I didn’t get some credit for it lol
Anybody on here see that Batgirl’s finally coming back in November Dc is coming out with a one-shot and an all new ongoing series starts in February. Although it sucks Rucka isn’t writing it JH Williams is writing it and the cover of the one shot looks awesome.
The cartoons the most people liked in the 80’s were syndicated. GI Joe, Strawberry Shortcake, Voltron, etc This is proof that 80’s broadcast network execs hated children…
did they really make a show about a rubix cube god damn the 80’s were weird…the sad part is that this show was probobly better than half the kids shows on right now particularly shows that are on Nickelodeon that network has turned into an embarressment. I miss 90’s Nick
I just finished wtchin the anime Gunbuster and I have to say it is probably one of my faveorite mech animes along with Gundam, Evangelion, and Code Geass, and I almost cried at the ending of gunbuster.
On a positive note this song is amazing. I’m not sure when it’s from I’d guess mid-late 90’s?
What? Wadda mean ya mean I’m drunk and need to stop talking about the old days? It’s not like I brought up Tim Sales Deathblow that looked like Frank Miller art! Or Eightball, Or the how awesome the Animaniacs were..Hey, forgit you pal, Animaniacs RULED!
D, there are drinks that I already like. Faygo diet cola, diet Vernor’s, Silk”s very vanilla soymilk, but I’m guessing you’re meaning of the alchy variety; well there’s Mike’s (unfotunately named) hard lemonade, Zima’s not too bad, and those frozen Bacardi deals are pretty tasty.
The strongest drink for me is a brandy that goes by the name of E&J, and I only drink that for medicinal reasons, and by the way… if we do meet, I’m taking you to detox. Bring Jose 🙂
Well, i just got home from workin at the bar. And got 3 hours to rest up for 3 rugby matches on Saturday. Whoever schedules 9am rugby obviously has never spent time around rugby players.
On the plus side, I get to debate with our starting Flanker/8Man DS9 vs Next Gen.
Hey all..
i was at my local book store and i came across this graphic novel called SILVERFIN.
its about a young James bond, written by Charlie Higson and illustrated by Kev Walker (thunderbolts). http://www.amazon.co.uk/SilverFin-Graphic-Novel-Young-Bond/dp/0141322535
I am really interested in to getting it but im not sure, read some review on the net and all were positive. i still havent made up my mind, so i was wondering if anyone here has read it.
If so, is it worth my money?
Hi guys, thought I’d leave a post here as I’ve been following CCW for a good while now. More of a lurker than a poster but given the amount of my money Jose and Elliot have spent with their recommendation I think it’s time to pop my head around the door. As an example, my birthday money this week went on: Blankets ~ been after this one for ages, Girls: Conception ~ The Sword was indeed awesome, and I need me some more Luna Brothers!, and Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead ~ an impulse buy, but you guys haven’t let me down yet. Damn you! I had planned to get hammered with that money…:(
Well, you are a fan of that Smiths so thats alright in my book. Hope to see you comment some more on here. Let us know what you thought of Blankets and Hotwire.
i am sorry shuri just isnt doing it for me. i picked up heroic age 4 and the bp stories deals with the fall out of doomwar to wakanda. maberry does a good job detailing wakanda’s woe’s and starts dealing with it by having shuri beat people up. i didnt get it. oh by the way it looks like ALL of wakanda’s vibranium is gone they make a point of saying how shuri is much more vulnerable now without the vibranium weave for black panther costume. she is forcedback to the old “spandex.”
also maberry says shuri was worse then linsay lohan and paris hilton as a party girl. thats where you want to go with this character? most people despise those two or at the very least are annoyed by them and you just lumped your heroine in that basket? and compare that to t’challa, brilliant, inscrutable, and noble… why are we reading about shuri??????????????? or at least just shuri? i could take t’challa nuking all the vibranium and sending his homeland into the toilet if he was still around but according to this story he is mia. i cant see his people accepting him as ruler again if he doesnt help steer wakanda through this rough patch. klaws of the panther is a lot less interesting now.
I too have not been a big fan of the Panther switch. While my BP comic viewing has been sparse compared To my DW viewing, I have faith enough in Maberry’s skills as a writer (as long as Hudlin’s not an obstacle) to get T’calla back into his rightful role.
i dont hate her either but this is t’challa’s mess he should be cleaning it up
mayberry seemes pretty wedded to shuri though she seems to be his black panther.
ive been down this substitute panther road before with casper and killmonger and i liked them too but t’challa is the black panther and if he isnt selling comics for marvel i highly doubt the other 3 will.
i saw something from tom brevoot this week were he said marvel has big plans for the panther ( which ive heard before) plans to bring himback to the center of the marvel universe. the center of the marvel universe? new york?
kings/royalty in comics dont do so well they are constantly abdicated or getting booted from their throne
i for one am not interested in the king of wakanda being the next man without fear
If I recall correctly from someone’s post yesterday; along with T’challk being in the mix for “the man without fear” is Moon Knight Gambit, Nova, and Kraven. If there has to be a change… I’d prefer Kraven (hopefully that’s the son and not yet another that’s been ressurected)
As for T’challa, he’s kinda in a catch 22 situation. Even when/if he becomes BP again, T’ is so tied to Wakanda… his leaving for any significant period of time wouldn’t fly as far as I could see. And since I don’t have the final 2 issues of DoomWar yet, I can only assume from what I’ve ‘heard’ hear that T’ didn’t reclaim his throne at the end of the series
My 2nd pick for DD was the guy I forget to put up earlier, The Falcon.
i wouldn’t say that they are better than DCFC, but i do like the weakerthans.
You just have to ignore death cab’s association to twilight. There are unfortunately quite a few good bands who are now affiliated with it 😦
Some of you might enjoy this. I was listening to this three part video from the early 90s on the concept of a shared universe in fiction. I thought it was going to focus mainly on Star Trek novels, but then the second video turned to comic books. So Neil Gaiman, John Byrne, Fabian Nicieza, and Walt Simonson all make appearances. If you go to the next video, you’ll see Peter David as well.
I just finished reading the Superman/Batman Supergirl graphic novel and I have to say… What the hell happend to Jeph Loeb? This was a great story and the fact that the same person who wrote this also wrote Ultimatum boggles my mind. I also liked the artwork by Michael Turner and I thought it was a good story and I cant wait for the animated movie coming out next month.
anyone pick up the new powerman?
it was ok kind of book i would have liked in high school
i thought the art was fun. nice to see luke cage and iron fist away from the avengers.
no its because of copyright bullshit with Macross’s american distributer Harmony Gold because they think they own ANYTHING that has to do with Macross in the U.S. and they even threatend legal action against the Mech Warrior developers because one of the Mechs in their game looks similair to a Destroid Tomahawk.
i just can’t see the remake being AS good. Some of the content would be a bit edgy for an American audience, so they’ll probably end up dulling it down to the level of an average American thriller.
i saw it too it wasnt a spectacular movie masterpiece i give it 3 out 5 stars
it was a good story well told but nothing truly amazing
i think the best thing it did was capture blomkvist personality of the mild mannere reporter dedicated to the truth and i that might be the one thing you have worry about in the american version them making daniel craig’s version more of a crusader or avenger
with lisbeth i dont think you can go too big
Fincher hasn’t made a decent movie since Panic Room and that was in 2002. Didn’t see Benjamin Button so I can’t comment on that. Plus he shouldn’t be making remakes. Do something original. Just seems lazy to me. The original Dragon Tattoo was perfect. He can not make it better so why even try.
that’s what i mean, i can’t think of a single aspect of that film that would NEED to be improved. They just want to attach a couple of big name stars to it and get rid of the subtitles, so they can cash in on American audiences who don’t have the attention span to read subtitles, or who think that all foreign films feature sad clowns and gay cowboys eating pudding.
No offense to the gay cowboys of the world, or the pudding they may or may not eat.
So you only give the original 3 out of 5 stars, huh? And you think an American can make it better? I am not having a go at you Kuru but that seems laughable to me.
you thought it was better then that? why? it certainly wasnt a nail biter thriller. and the investigation part of the movie was well done as most brit detective shows good but hardly spectacular. acting i was very impressed with micheal nyqvist he brought the quite strength to the character that it needed . but noomi rapace lisbeth was good but not spectacular though i thought the walk home from her first meeting with her gaurdian was her best scene ( that takes place in book 2 btw) maybe thats it i wasnt blown away by her lisbeth
which part of that movie did you think was exceptional? im trying very hard to remember a part where i said myself wow that was really amazing either storytelling wise or acting wise?
the directing
I thought the whole film was exceptional. Is it so hard to believe that people may actually have a different opinion than you? I have no idea why you are dissing this film in favor of the American remake which hasn’t even fucking starting filming yet. You are really statting to come off as hating for the sake of hating.
Like I said before, Fincher hasn’t made a decent flick in 8 years. Why the fuck do you think he can do better? What could he possibly bring to the American production? Have you seen the actress they picked to play Lisbeth? Of course the American remake NEEDED to pick a cute girl to play the part. What a fucking joke.
I really liked Benjamin Button (though it makes me sad as hell). I don’t think the guys a bad director, I’m not even TOTALLY opposed to the idea of remakes. What I am opposed to, is the goddamn illiterate nation we live in that has to remake a 2 year old film because some people don’t want to read. That just makes me angry.
They act as if foriegn cinema is of lower value than American. Even BBC flicks are being remade and their in English! ‘Death at a Funeral’ wasn’t itching for a remake. I fear it’s only just begining too.
It just speaks of the void in mainstream American films nowadays. Everything is money galloping, Micheal Bay shit or nothing at all. We can’t make Casablanca in 2010 because their isn’t the audience for smarts. People just want to see stuff get blown up and Megan Fox’s can in 3 fuckin’ D.
america isnt remaking this movie because the swedish movie was blockbuster hit hollywood wants to steal but because the books have been selling here like hotcakes hollywood is doing what does very often turning bestselling books into movies
My point is, it’s a WASTE of time to remake a film that came out 2 years prior. It’s not like it’s been locked away in a vault and no one has seen it. It’s a pretty well received flick, and a really good one at that.
i dont think i dissed this film at all i just didnt think it was truly exceptional in any way. i dont think we are talking the godfather or raging bull here.
i asked your opinion because i was interested on what about the movie you thought was exceptional. if there was something truly amazing about this film that made it a 5 star untouchable classic i certainly missed it. i could be wrong you could be right. i didnt think your or pobras opinions was laughable i just didnt share it.
i wasn’t prefering the unmade american version over this one i was just open to the possibility that david fincher will probably make a good movie, and not “FUCK IT UP” as pobra. said its not like hollyood has micheal bay helming this thing with nicholas cage headling.
zodiac was good movie probably as good as this one and benjamin bunton was very good movie i think he is a very good director.
i never read any review for the film before last night so i took the time to red a few and the critics that raved about it all thought noomi rapace ‘s performance was captivating or exception. i didnt . i thought she was good but lisbeth is a
sensational role i thought it needed a sensational performance.
will rooney mara be better? beats me never saw her in anything
i was thinking about the movie some more, it felt very hollywood eseque from a directing stand point. watching i felt in very familiar territory despite it being in a language i dont speak as opposed to our other recent discussion, Let the Right One In , which very much felt like a foreign made film. now that could work either way against the idea hollywood can make a good version of this. on the positive side since it seemed very hollywood-esque it will be an easy translation to the american version or a negative side since director niels oplev has made a similar style movie why make another?
i just dont think you should dismiss something out of hand
Raging Bull and The Godfather are two of the most overrated movies of all time, in my opinion. The Godfather is alright, a good solid movie, but it hardly strikes me as a classic of modern cinema. There were so many scenes of Pacino wandering around Sicily doing absolutely nothing, plus you could barely understand anything Brando was saying. The film could have benefited from better editing.
Raging Bull is just awful. I have no idea how this is on any top critics’ list. I don’t get it. It was about a short-tempered character who led a life of bitterness. I found nothing enjoyable in watching this film.
Hey guys, just wondering if any of you know a good website where I can downloaad videos for free? I’m gonna be moving out on Aug. 30th. So from then til Sept 2nd, I’ll have no internet, so I want to download as much stuf as I can. Thank-You! 🙂
Speaking of IM, i find it strange and unsettling that Vol.2 of ‘The Unwritten’ is not only named after him, but the opening page is a blog post from someone of the same name.
Now, IM has been very cautious about not revealing too much about himself or the nature of his ‘real persona’. He claims it’s for reasons relating to his career, but i’m not so sure.
Could it be that a member of the CCW nation is the physical manifestation of Tommy Taylor??
I don’t understand the logic of former Gov. Blagojevich selling autographs at a comic book convention. He might get 5 years for lying to investigators. Shouldn’t he be I dunno…maybe working on an appeal? Does he think if he gets sci-fi, comic book and wrestling fans on his side that’s going to sway the judge?
more and more of these “celeb” guests make no sense
especially the wizard world cons last year at the big apple wizard world con they had a ton of wrestlers and quite a few baseball guys and reality tv folks
now there is definitely crossover with sports and comic fans and big crossover with comic and wrestling fans but reality tv?
its sad to see these folks sitting at their table with nobody there talking to them and i dont go near celebs for fear they will try to charge me 20 bucks for something
Blago was charging something like $80 to take a picture with him. He was asked about it and replied something like, “I gotta make money for my family somehow”. I’m just like “Dude…”
a lot of folks from the nyc area go to the baltimore con they all say its the best
a con dedicated to comics and all the pros that do that show love it
i have to get down there
i am currently watching ‘Casino Royale’ while trying to drink myself to sleep. just realized how ridiculous the parkour chase scene is. thought i’d share that.
hm, this must be what it’s like to have a facebook or twitter account.
Dude, it’s a James Bond movie. Everything’s over the top. It’s no more ridiculous than an invisible car that can skirting upside down on the ice and then righting itself by hitting the ejector seat.
Dude, don’t get me started on the Pierce Brosnan Bond flicks. They were fun in their own campy sort of way, but overall pretty awful stuff. And you’re right about Bond movies being over the top, it’s just that casino royale played it pretty straight up to that point, sort of. It seems rather impractical to be running in such a stylized manner when you’re life is apparently at stake. Oh, and the breasts are not good, they’re grrreeeaat!
I’m not quite sure how you can say Casino Royale played it pretty straight up to that point when the parkour sequence was the opening scene in the movie.
jesus… can i not just have a fucking opinion without having to defend it to the bitter end? guess not.
What i SHOULD HAVE SAID was, casino royale was billed as being a more realistic bond movie, and the MAJORITY of the film is played as such, including the OPENING FIGHT scene that came before the chase, that was done quite believably.
I was watching Inglorious Bastards today, and I was reminded why Bendis is such a hack writer. In the movie, a majority of it is dialogue between characters that builds this great tension that is usually followed by some gory action. Even though the majority of the dialogue is in German or French it kept my attention, and I don’t think Bendis has that ability at least in his mainstream work.
Dude, you have to check out New Avengers #3. If you can, read the first half of it next time you go to the comic shop. Holy shit is that comic a joke. There was a SPLASH PAGE where all the characters did was talk about Ghostbusters. ON A SPLASH PAGE! Christ all mighty.
Man, I just reread a few archs of ULT SPIDER MAN from like 60’s and 120’s. Mainly the Gwen Stacy parts. And man, that writing was great. Honestly, ULT SM did everything for me that the ULT comics were supposed to. They got me into the mainstream heroes again. But now? Bendis is a joke really. I can’t stand it.
yup i saw that splash page……and the fact that they continued to talk about it for the next 2 pages or so. Apart from the last page Nothing really happened in that book.
HOW THE HELL DOES BENDIS GET AWAY WITH SUCH SHITTY SCRIPTS LIKE THIS…..HOW!!!!!!!!
doyou think bendis is trying to pull something honestly?
alan moore said . he has said he is trying to find ways to make people have diffrent psychological reactions and not even know it. through odd paneling, angles and claustrophobic settings.
i think bendis is doing the same in a way.
is bendis trying to fuck with us so much that we just snap . am i gonnna wake up clutching new avengers , in some asian families living room covered in blood?
i think so.
there is no way he thinks this is talented writing.
maybe he is trying to see how muchhe can get away with . like the guy who drew power girls boobs bigger ever issue untill someone would tell him to stop.
I think you might be referring to Wally Wood (the guy who drew power girls boobs) but that was a different time. Sure they drew women sexy and attractive but not to the extremes they do now. Depending on the artist the women are HYPER-SEXUALIZED. Everyone’s got a D-cup, so now guys sometimes draw Power Girl with breast larger than her head.
As far as telling Bendis to stop, why would they? The comics are still selling. My biggest fear tho is with all the stunts and gimmicks (the re-numbering, lame spinoffs, events, other obvious cash grabs) are going to turn off even their most devoted fans. That same $12 you spend on 3 comics that take 5 mins each to read, could be spent on a case of beer for you and your friends to drink while watching the game.An that’s a couple hours of fun.
What happens when those guys realize this and decide to drop not just the spin-offs but also the regular comics they used to buy.And since “comics aren’t just for kids” anymore, how’re they going to replace that audience?
Wow, Courtney…talk about someone who had their moment then blew it. She has a new record ( I haven’t heard it) and is on tour again. I still think Live Thru This and Celebrity Skin are great despite all her (multiple) issues.
Yeah, I never really did vibe to Courtney much. To this day.. Doll Parts is only song I like by her. I feel what you’re sayin’ about Ms. Harry, though.
and don’t forget that before Fergie, before Stefani, before Madonna and before Lady T, before all those ladies, Debbie was the 1st non sister to incorperate rap into her music (possible exception) Toni Basil.
i love comic hype
Marvel is pleased to present your first look at Captain America: Patriot #1 (of 4) from the acclaimed creative team of Karl Kesel and Mitch Breitweiser.
i am really looking forward to this book but acclaimed by who exactly? i love reading about a new up coming title the pr depart tries to make it look like fans have been clamoring for these creators to get this project always gives me a giggle
Kesel did some cool stuff in the 90’s. His DD relaunch with Nord after all the grey suit crapola was actually really fun, nice, ‘bright n’ shiny’ DD, considering what people are used to.
i am enjoying his cap 1940s strip and i liked hawk and dove stuff he did with his ex wife and robbie boy and mitch’s art looks good but hype always feels silly like our small community is going to get tricked by them talking up the talent we would never do that we are too busy getting sucked into the next big event for that lol
Yeah, like it’s pre-determined, because they said so… I hate it when songs have a soundbyte in the title/lyric and then people cite it when referring to/describing the same song or artist. I mean talk about eating out of someone’s palm…
Example; when Robbie Williams (from Take That) was massive in the UK in the early 00’s, I’d always argue with people that he was just a shit cabaret singer but they’d always come back with “yeah, but you’ve got to agree he’s a great ‘entertainer'”
Hah hah, yeah it’s an acquired taste I guess…Chorus effect with side-chaining…I’ve been overdosing on Toro y Moi and Washed Out lately so I couldn’t resist
To any tech-ies out there;
Has anyone encountered a problem with their modem in which you fixed it by running a program on line to kinda kickstart it back to the way it was before it got all glitchy?
Naahh. This has been goin’ on for months……..5 lights’ll shine green and then at any time the 3rd or 4th light will go red and its like “cancel x-mas” Rwstarting the computer just brings me back to square one
ok i found this comic review show on youtube called Comic Dou its a couple of high schoolers reviewing books and while i would never say they are great reviewers or give thoughtful analysis but they are cracking me up. to me they are rare fans in that they are so young and not steeped in decades of marvel and dc continuity i find thier point of views interesting and they are exactly the demographics that comic industry is trying to capture but seems to do so less and less every year. but the reason im mentioning them here is that they are doing a bit of a bendis rant in their new avengers 3 review that i think many of many folks around will enjoy. and no they are ripping off E and J they seem to be finding faults with bendis all on their own which i as a fan of bendis’s ultimate spidey, powers and most of dark avengers find very interesting. plus these kinds could use some views so if you have some time and feeling charitable check them out,
yeah im trying to think of how many kids i see come into my LCS 3 probably i mean highschoolers or jr hsers not little kids with their folks 1 guy reads a lot but doesnt seem to buy and his cute asian gal pal just hang around and chats and the other kid comes in and tells everyone about all his elsewhere world batman stories but doesnt seem to buy either
Depending when I go there are always a few. But my lcs has gaming tables set up and most of the time they are just hanging out playing magic or other card cames so i dont know if they ever by comics or not.
Ugh, I thought I could escape this song on here. Everyone and his fucking mother is posting this shit on Facebook. Ugh.
Catchy tune, but I got tired of it after the second listen-thru. It would be nice if he wrote some varied lyrics rather than repeat the same exact fucking chorus over and over.
The preview that I checked out for Superman 702 I thought was kinda condescending
701 I thought was pretty good though; there were no beheadings, no brutality, no foul language, no overt sexualization etc, etc. Now JMS put out a story…in my opinion Superman brought me back to my childhood where everything was hopeful and
filled with wonder, but that’s just me 🙂
I think JMS’s idea is a mighty interesting one, and a GOOD one. It’s just poorly planned. It happened right after a major event, and it has Superman on the road to failure once again.
Superman is fictional, he can’t save us all from our downturned economy and poor future. Therefore, he shouldn’t be lead to try. It’s not like he’ll be able to save the day and that’s what he does. He saves the day. Give something that he can defeat with similar attributes to current problems and we’re golden.
Well Heck, I agree with you that this fictional character can’t solve the real worlds’ ills, but I do believe he can address them. JMS has shown with B & B that he can tackle things that are not the norm in comics these days and make them interesting. Of course I saw the preview of 702 and found it quite condescending, but I’m hoping that’s the exception that proves the rule.
I find your BillBixby/DavidBanner comparison a bit vexing. Wasn’t Banner essentially touring America himself?
On an unrelated note..didn’t I use to be able to scroll over your name and see Heck, I’m Listening show up?
I wanted to start a debate. I want people to be as honest and brutal as possible. Since I found this type of problem to occur in comics mostly, not with movies or books as often, but I ask you people of the CCW nation?
Where and how did Frank Miller go wrong?
I pick frank since I recently read his incredible work and feel so confused to think he also wrote that garbage all star batman…
what do you guys think? How did an incredible writer go bad sooooo bad?
Have you ever read Ronin? I find my self reading that more than Dark Knight Returns, 300, or Sin City. Yes, the art is definitely rough but you see him developing as a writer/artist. But anyway, yeah I have a tough time with this, I guess there is so many times you can push it until you push it right over the cliff.
I always see RONIN at Amazon and in book stores and I’m so eager to read it. Looks so good and awesome and reminds me of a time when Miller brought the far east to USA comics. Before Manga even kicked off crazy good.
I was never really a fan of Sin City, the art is good, but the writing is so uneven, and as a history buff I have problems with certain aspects of 300. Apparently so did Alan Moore. With The Dark Knight Strikes Again 9/11 happened while that was in production so personal politics got in the way and with All-Star Loeb was originally slated to write that, but he left for Marvel so there wasn’t much hope for that to begin with. I think the reason why he gets away with it as many creators like him do is because the editors aren’t willing to say no to him because he’s Frank Miller.
IMO I feel he fell off with DK2, up until that point I liked mostly everything he did. but somewhere around when DK2 came out Miller became his own biggest fan. He felt anything he wrote was gold, so now it’s to the point he likes to make characters that we recognize do unrecognizable shit. He thinks it’s fun, people still buy it. No one wins.
Mike, I’ll answer it in the simplest terms possible:
EVERY WRITER HAS A SET AMOUNT OF STORIES IN HIM/HER.
That’s it. Brilliant writers have 4 of 5 brilliant stories (maybe 10– tops)… The rest of their shit is just treading water.
People tend to forget (because they were written so long ago and Sin City was much more recent) that Miller also wrote the scripts for Robocop 2 and 3– which are 2 of the SHITTIEST MOVIES EVER MADE. DK2 is brilliant in the face of those 2 flicks.
To lend instant credibility to my point: Note Miller’s latest Gucci (I think) commercial. He only has ONE DIRECTING STYLE too. As I said under that preview– he’s a one note wonder.
I may be the only one but Miller’s 300 read like a grade school primer. The story was EXCEPTIONAL but the story was HISTORY. You could have written just as well as Frank Miller… And that’s not a put down.
I honestly, respectfully disagree man. Although I created this debate not for debating but for suggesting, when you say all writers have a limit, I say where’s Ray Bradbury’s? I’ve NEVER seen him write a bad story. What about Naoki Urasawa? 25 years and still no fuck ups to me.
It just seems common with USA comic writers. Bendis, Millar, Loeb, Johns, the list goes on, but it all started with Frank for me. Because he was the first real game changer. Idk, its a sad thing to think about…
I was going to put in line in my original post that said that there are EXCEPTIONS TO EVERY RULE… But I figured I did NOT have to write that because I always figured that point was UNDERSTOOD.
Apparently not.
I mean, I seriously didn’t think anyone would believe I didn’t know there were writers with HIGHER LIMITS. Stephen King has a limit higher than 10.
The paragraph or 2 that I was going to write would’ve read something almost exactly like this:
“There are a few exceptions to this rule. Some writers can come up with story after story… Rarely repeating themselves or making their new works interesting enough that you can’t tell they borrow from the old– or you just don’t care. This seems to be a phenomenon of many SF writers…. Bradbury and Heinlein to name 2.
Comic book writers– due to the monthly nature of their work– ave their “box” of usable ideas sifted through much more quickly… and used up much more quickly.”
This goes back to my saying somewhere else on another thread on this blog that if they work long enough– almost EVERY comic book writer becomes a hack. Almost every artist becomes a hack.
Do I need to list the EXCEPTIONS to that statement as well?:-)
Robocop 2 is not one of the shittiest movies ever made, not by a long shot. It doesn’t even come close to being as good as the first one, but it’s not awful. I never saw the third one, so I can’t comment.
I’m just going to disagree. Compared to #1– #2 was a tub of shit. #3 was a larger tub of shit. Both were major letdowns and 2 of the worst films every made imo.
If Miller couldn’t come close to Part One with either attempt– he should have respectfully bowed out of the job.
Bet he wished he had too– because it fucked his Hollywood career for almost two decades until RR came along and resuscitated it… Before Miller then immediately got full of himself again and fucked it all to hell (again) with The Spirit.
I think Frank probably feels vindicated after the Sin City, 300, and to a lesser extent the DD movie. For a long time he was really down on Hollywood, but now it’s like “You like me! You really like! Sure I’ll direct commercials for you!” I think he feels finally I’m being recognized by the outside world again and not just these Batman freaks.
As much as I goof on the guy, I grew up on Frank Miller. He’ll always be one of my early comic book heroes. Hell, I’ve even defended DK2.
Having said that, I kinda agree with InsideMan. Frank’s just run out of ideas. The Spirit film is a good example. It’s not the worst movie ever, but it has nothing to do w/Eisner’s work. It IS full of Frank Miller hack-isms that Frank’s been doing for the last 10-15 years.
Frank’s done bad work in the past, but he was able to bounce back. Remember Batman vs Spawn?
How about A Dame to Kill For ( it’s supposed to be an homage but read like an un-intended spoof)?
As far as ALL STAR,look at it this way…Frank shot his Batman load 25yrs ago. It took him 15 yrs to come up with a sequel. He didn’t have a really good idea but he couldn’t turn down DC’s offer so we got his All Star. It’s everything Frank’s done in the past only really really bad.
I think Frank wants to still be seen as the dangerous artist we thought he was in the late 80’s. The artist that pushed envelopes and ruffled feathers in the industry, but the world’s changed and when he makes “important statements” he sounds someone’s crazy uncle. Remember when he ripped up a copy of Wizard at some comic convention? How about when he was on Public Radio and claimed that Iraq attacked America? It’s like you wanna say, “Yes,Unca Frank…the world has gone to hell. Now have another beer and calm down. We’re missing the game.”
J.
just the paused image youtube gave caught my attention… whose the actress that plays Sophie i remember her from some other movie i just cant put my finger on it?
Marion Cotillard. She was just in Inception and was also in Public Enemies with Johnny Depp.
J.
also in bigfigh.
Wow, what a good movie. Thanks for suggesting it Jose. 🙂
So cool.
http://kotaku.com/5618286/harmonix-confirms-entire-rock-band-3-setlist
J.
Ya, this song is in Rockband 3 as well.
J.
And so is this one.
J.
‘Bout time Big Country got some recognition/exposure to a younger audience. People used to rip into them for their bag-pipe guitar sound, but The Crossing and Steeltown are amazing albums and sound fresher today than ever
agreed.
I don’t know. There’s something a bit off about an act that makes a song outta their own name, except for Price and Queen 🙂
“Prince”
Power of love is all I need to make the purchase.
Peter Parker has HERPES!
And Deemar gets a shout out! Are the 2 related?
http://wp.me/pZr1Y-14g
Hah!!!
🙂
Thanks Sider for associating meet with Herpes.
😦
Hey, I give credit where credit is due.
If it happens to be in a post primarily dealing with Herpes– that I cannot help.
I can’t help slam Joey Q for virtually killing my favorite comic character of ALL TIME.
Good gosh Oogly Moogly! Where the hell is everyone?
No shit, right?
J.
Check your InBox
Don’t worry guys, I’m here.
First, this one:
Second, I am a fan of Kurt Wimmer. Saw both of his movies opening night in the theater. Talk about a guy who got fucked over by Hollywood.
Third, Power of Love is part of my childhood. The Smiths and The Cure are 80’s too. You calling them “bland”? I could probably name 50 more bands from the 80’s that weren’t bland. 😛
J.
Bet I could double it– or at least match it.
Every modern decade has great bands. Every one.
Now the beast looks kinda like a dog depending on who draws him. You must love that.
J.
Hank is back human?
In the early issues of the original X-Factor in the 80’s Hank was human for a short period of time then he went back to blue fur Hank.
Man I need to read stuff sober, I think they should just allow Hank to change back and forth freely from blue and fut=rry to normal, the way he can like be a spy and be human and turn into a lion like battlecat in Heman to be rode by Storm in a thong.
Or maybe just turn blue when he want to get his Furry on.
I just re-read my post and I am out of control and need help.
LOL
What the fuck was I thinking?!
David Finch said he tried to split the difference between ape Beast and cat Beast
Huey’s first three albums were the ones I was really into. Fore! was alright. I think Working for a Living was on his second album. Man I really want to go back a listen to those now.
J.
No question the man was in the groove back then. Some say he never left it… Although his head got a little large when he tried acting– which didn’t work out.
How was there a discussion of Huey Lewis and this wasn’t posted?
Ha! I hadn’t gotten to it yet. Thanks for posting that. I’ll make sure to be more on the ball next time we talk about Phil Collins or Whitney Houston
J.
The little dance he does gets me every time.
Plus, I sing “I Want a New Drug” to myself almost every time you let a thread (in my opinion) go on too long without starting a new one.
Here are the lyrics I started singing to myself while I am wait for my fucking posts to load sometimes:
“I wanta new thread, one that want make me wait,
One where I can load my message real fast,
Instead of having to stay up late
I wanta new thread, one without so many vids
One that doesn’t make me think,
Fuck all you damn You Tube obsessed kids”
You get the idea. 😉
I feel your pain.
HERPES
I like this version of the song better.
J.
I probably would have never initiated putting on Huey Lewis for fear of being stoned, but since our esteemed host was digging him, I’ll put down my favorite News song. Although one could argue they were the ……….. well (t)hicle (r)ack of their day 🙂
Who doesn’t love fat bottom girls?
This song rulez
short membered dudes
Just watched 500 days of summer last night this songs stuck in my head which isnt a bad thing. This and Fuck me Ray Bradbury are two songs I can’t stop thinking about lol
Was the the first time you saw 500 Days?
J.
to be honest it was my 3rd time they had it at blockbuster last week for $5 had to buy it
I love that movie and I also love The Smiths. Two great tastes that taste great together.
J.
Yeah definately hate to be a bit of a sheep but as soon as I saw this movie I downloaded the smiths greatest hits I had never heard of them before this movie I’m glad I did they’re awesome
Pick up “The Queen is Dead” and “Meat is Murder” next. Those are two of my favorite albums.
This is off of The Queen is Dead:
J.
nice I’ll def check those out.
I don’t know if anyone here’s ever heard this band but there pretty fantastic they just came out with a new cd two weeks ago. Their new and first album are really good highly recommended
Not my thing, but it’s not bad
As fans of The Smiths, what do you make of these guys? They are blatant imitators, but they do write good songs. I’ve had this discussion about music that is completely derivative with friends over the years. If the songs are good, should it really matter who wrote them. In this case, does the fact that Morrisey/Marr didn’t write this affect your opinion of the song?
Oops. This might help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coTnbld8Rp4
Along the same lines. It’s fake Neutral Milk Hotel, but it’s REALLY good fake Neutral Milk Hotel and an amazing song.
J.
J.
folksy with a touch of bluegrass….very easy to listen to.
I am a little confued by your question. Are you asking what do I think of The Smiths? Or another band who sounds like The Smiths?
J.
Sorry. Forgot the link on my original post. Check the follow up for the link.
I love The Smiths, being a Salford Lad it’s in my blood! The ‘Stop Me If…’ video was shot just down the road from me. Urban decay for the win…:p
Equalibrium was basically a spin on Farenheight 451 or whatever
K. Dick
phillip
Actually, that was Ray Bradbury, D. 😛
J.
Yeah that guy.
We need more of the Brabury chick with the cans
I actually read that book during study hall one year the first 20 minutes of study hall we had to read and not do homework…study hall and you can’t do homework god my school was retarded.
Schools trying to get kids to read. THOSE SONS OF BITCHES!
I love Ray Bradbury.
Just watched the Chicago Comic Con video. I know it was Friday but it looked sparse.
I loved the guy in the middle who said Trade Paperbacks $7, 10 for $50:
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/08/20/video-from-one-end-of-chicago-comic-con-to-the-other/
Chi-Con, who went?
Me. And it fucked sucked balls. Big time.
J.
Wow, no big names, no Stan Lee?
You get pics
No big names. No pics. Like I said, it was fucking terrible.
J.
anything worth telling us. did you meet any cool creators? or get any sketches?
Not really. Met Daniel Logan (baby Boba Fett) and a bunch of wrestlers. E and I had lunch with the director and producer of documentary The People vs George Lucas (which we are briefly in). That was he highlight of the day.
Really, is was the worst convention I have ever been to.
J.
worst ever….shitty
that is shitty, but your in a movie. how cool is that.
Baby Fett how was he cool?
Actually, ya, he was. He was a pretty down to earth kid. The interview he did with E was probably the best one from today. He just seemed to be having fun at the con and seemed to really like meeting the Star Wars fans.
J.
That’ll get old for him in about 4yrs.
You guys are in The People Vs George Lucas? That’s pretty cool. I was just discussing that documentary last night with a friend of mine. I need to see it.
Ya, they used a clip from one of our old episodes. Originally we had 2 clips in the film but one got cut out. Maybe it will be on the blu ray though.
J.
I know this is kinda of a weird post but I’d really appreciate any help I can get I need to make some money because I’ve been spending so much on comic books lately and schools about to start up so i need to buy textbooks,
THanks guys,
Matt
Honestly, the newer books your not gonna get much for them. Breaking even is unlikely.
But the more complete a series or mini the better
that’s what I figured It just bothers me that I have all these books and I know I’m never going to read them again. I may just give them a few of my books see how it goes and if it doesn’t work out I’ll just hang onto them and let them collect dust.
J got the better answer.
He is a LCS guy hell does Dreamland offer such a service
All that stuff sounds good to sell. I think you’re right in selling them in bundles. I think people are tempted to pick up whole runs rather than sporadic issues.
J.
that’s what I figured I was looking through my collection and saw Greg Rucka’s Batwoman and the complete run of Captain Britain MI: 13. I got mad at myself for actually thinking for a second on getting rid of these.
I am
Shitfaced drunk

The cartoons the most people liked in the 80’s were syndicated. GI Joe, Strawberry Shortcake, Voltron, etc This is proof that 80’s broadcast network execs hated children…
did they really make a show about a rubix cube god damn the 80’s were weird…the sad part is that this show was probobly better than half the kids shows on right now particularly shows that are on Nickelodeon that network has turned into an embarressment. I miss 90’s Nick

It is!
1 things I loved from that clip:
1) The sign that said “Gotham City City Hall”
and
2) Batman’s magnifying glass had little bat ears
Thanks, Phil.

Phil if we ever meet, I’m taking you to a pub and finding a beverage you’ll like.
Yes..I’m hungover
D, there are drinks that I already like. Faygo diet cola, diet Vernor’s, Silk”s very vanilla soymilk, but I’m guessing you’re meaning of the alchy variety; well there’s Mike’s (unfotunately named) hard lemonade, Zima’s not too bad, and those frozen Bacardi deals are pretty tasty.
The strongest drink for me is a brandy that goes by the name of E&J, and I only drink that for medicinal reasons, and by the way… if we do meet, I’m taking you to detox. Bring Jose 🙂
See I’m not much for the hard liqour or Zima Ha! Zima.
I’m detoxing right now, drinking plenty of water.
Now you’ve got to set an example to the others by going through with the other eleven steps 🙂
The Eurhythmics are timeless. My fave song of their’s is
I’ve always liked this song as well
Do you like The Eurhythmics in general, Stamps…or just that particular song?
AHH, I still can’t sleep. I’ve been building 2 new bookcases all night and I got work in the morninn’. I need a drink.
Jeebus that you?
I did a chest of drawers and a coffee table yesterday -I feel your pain
So we’ve really advanced as a species. When I was a kid, all the fucking furniture came PRE-ASSEMBLED. 😉
It’s the Swiss who haven’t evolved -blame Ikea lol
Oh, they’ve evolved. They’ve got us putting together their furniture!
Ikea are Swedish 😛
Thank goodness, I was worried I was going to have pre-assemble my chocolate bars from now on.
Switching gears (sort of)– What I wouldn’t give for a fresh Cadbury Flake or a Lion Bar right about NOW.
but for some reason they dont sell the fish i love so much
Bookcases… Build me a couple. 🙂
I am seriously running out of wall space, lol. I’m a sucker for old books…
YOU NEED EM MR TRADES!!!
Great episode.

Night man!
I haven’t read it tbh but Kev Walker is a great artist so at least the pictures will be good!
Damn you! I had planned to get hammered with that money…:(
New guy
welcome!

And who knows…..Shuri might be the next Ronin
Shuri grew on me, I’d rather T’challa remain Black Panther.
I don’t hate the character though.
i dont hate her either but this is t’challa’s mess he should be cleaning it up
mayberry seemes pretty wedded to shuri though she seems to be his black panther.
ive been down this substitute panther road before with casper and killmonger and i liked them too but t’challa is the black panther and if he isnt selling comics for marvel i highly doubt the other 3 will.
i saw something from tom brevoot this week were he said marvel has big plans for the panther ( which ive heard before) plans to bring himback to the center of the marvel universe. the center of the marvel universe? new york?
kings/royalty in comics dont do so well they are constantly abdicated or getting booted from their throne
i for one am not interested in the king of wakanda being the next man without fear
My 2nd pick for DD was the guy I forget to put up earlier, The Falcon.
good band:)
the Weakerthans are like the Canadian Death Cab for Cutie 🙂
aw come on they are alot better. and been around a lot longer.
plus songs about curling, anartic exploers, pamphletters.. that shit beats songs made for the twilight soundtrack
So, Death Cab does ONE song for a soundtrack and now they are shit? Ya, that makes sense.
J.
i wouldn’t say that they are better than DCFC, but i do like the weakerthans.
You just have to ignore death cab’s association to twilight. There are unfortunately quite a few good bands who are now affiliated with it 😦
Like Metric.
J.
Despite the annoying host it was good. Theres a series of great videos with Jack Kirby about a year or so before he passed away
I use to luck out and catch this show on achannel that would not come in all that well in the motor city. Thx 4 posting, CBS.
i caught it maybe twice in public access tv i remember the philip k dick episode
What Up Everybody?!
What’s shakin’, V?
Not much Phil, not a whole lot…
You missed a night of drunken foolishness
How’s that different from any other night?
heh true
Oh I read up Dee. I read up…
The insanity!
Eeech!
Mine eyes!
I thought it was a terrible story. Nice to see Turner’s art though…
I would probably give the story a 3.5 to 4.0 out of 5 and I would probably give the art a 5.0 out of 5.
anyone pick up the new powerman?
it was ok kind of book i would have liked in high school
i thought the art was fun. nice to see luke cage and iron fist away from the avengers.
is it a new ongoing Powerman, or is it part of that Shadowland whatnot?
4 part shadowland mini but leading into a powerman and iron fist title next year
The Kerry Gammill art on the original PM & IF was spectacular.
This looks like one of the coolest mech games ever. Too bad its not coming to the U.S. 😦
how money did they spend on that it looks like a huge blockbuster movie
i guess mech games dont sell here huh
no its because of copyright bullshit with Macross’s american distributer Harmony Gold because they think they own ANYTHING that has to do with Macross in the U.S. and they even threatend legal action against the Mech Warrior developers because one of the Mechs in their game looks similair to a Destroid Tomahawk.
http://kotaku.com/5352295/mechwarrior-5-runs-into-legal-trouble
That’s kinda badass
I finally got around to watching The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and it was damn good! God they are gonna fuck it up with the American remake.
why do say that? america is pretty good at making thrillers
i just can’t see the remake being AS good. Some of the content would be a bit edgy for an American audience, so they’ll probably end up dulling it down to the level of an average American thriller.
i saw it too it wasnt a spectacular movie masterpiece i give it 3 out 5 stars
it was a good story well told but nothing truly amazing
i think the best thing it did was capture blomkvist personality of the mild mannere reporter dedicated to the truth and i that might be the one thing you have worry about in the american version them making daniel craig’s version more of a crusader or avenger
with lisbeth i dont think you can go too big
maybe i’m just nervous because right after that i watched ‘Law Abiding Citizen’. *shudder*
oh and david fincher is directing he just happens to make really good movies
Fincher hasn’t made a decent movie since Panic Room and that was in 2002. Didn’t see Benjamin Button so I can’t comment on that. Plus he shouldn’t be making remakes. Do something original. Just seems lazy to me. The original Dragon Tattoo was perfect. He can not make it better so why even try.
J.
that’s what i mean, i can’t think of a single aspect of that film that would NEED to be improved. They just want to attach a couple of big name stars to it and get rid of the subtitles, so they can cash in on American audiences who don’t have the attention span to read subtitles, or who think that all foreign films feature sad clowns and gay cowboys eating pudding.
No offense to the gay cowboys of the world, or the pudding they may or may not eat.
i give this post MVP status for it defense of gay cowboys and their pudding
thank you sir 🙂
So you only give the original 3 out of 5 stars, huh? And you think an American can make it better? I am not having a go at you Kuru but that seems laughable to me.
J.
you thought it was better then that? why? it certainly wasnt a nail biter thriller. and the investigation part of the movie was well done as most brit detective shows good but hardly spectacular. acting i was very impressed with micheal nyqvist he brought the quite strength to the character that it needed . but noomi rapace lisbeth was good but not spectacular though i thought the walk home from her first meeting with her gaurdian was her best scene ( that takes place in book 2 btw) maybe thats it i wasnt blown away by her lisbeth
which part of that movie did you think was exceptional? im trying very hard to remember a part where i said myself wow that was really amazing either storytelling wise or acting wise?
the directing
J.
Do something new.
i dont think i dissed this film at all i just didnt think it was truly exceptional in any way. i dont think we are talking the godfather or raging bull here.
i asked your opinion because i was interested on what about the movie you thought was exceptional. if there was something truly amazing about this film that made it a 5 star untouchable classic i certainly missed it. i could be wrong you could be right. i didnt think your or pobras opinions was laughable i just didnt share it.
i wasn’t prefering the unmade american version over this one i was just open to the possibility that david fincher will probably make a good movie, and not “FUCK IT UP” as pobra. said its not like hollyood has micheal bay helming this thing with nicholas cage headling.
zodiac was good movie probably as good as this one and benjamin bunton was very good movie i think he is a very good director.
i never read any review for the film before last night so i took the time to red a few and the critics that raved about it all thought noomi rapace ‘s performance was captivating or exception. i didnt . i thought she was good but lisbeth is a
sensational role i thought it needed a sensational performance.
will rooney mara be better? beats me never saw her in anything
i was thinking about the movie some more, it felt very hollywood eseque from a directing stand point. watching i felt in very familiar territory despite it being in a language i dont speak as opposed to our other recent discussion, Let the Right One In , which very much felt like a foreign made film. now that could work either way against the idea hollywood can make a good version of this. on the positive side since it seemed very hollywood-esque it will be an easy translation to the american version or a negative side since director niels oplev has made a similar style movie why make another?
i just dont think you should dismiss something out of hand
Thank-You! 🙂
warez-bb.org works for me.
just use bit torrents
Oh shit, Insideman is seriously going to fuck someone up when he sees all of these new youtube video posts. 🙂
J.
Dammit!
So does this mean you can hook me up with a wand or a cat with wings? I’m not picky, one of the two will do.
sorry Insideman. 🙂
Just trying to yank Insideman’s chain.
Consider it yanked.
I knew it!
IM, if you’re really Tommy Taylor..can I come on an adventure? Shit, if you’re literary I can even meet Superman!
😛
Calling insideman IM is sure confusing, every time I see IM, I think Ironmuscrat.
same i say he should be called innie like a belly button
I don’t understand the logic of former Gov. Blagojevich selling autographs at a comic book convention. He might get 5 years for lying to investigators. Shouldn’t he be I dunno…maybe working on an appeal? Does he think if he gets sci-fi, comic book and wrestling fans on his side that’s going to sway the judge?
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/08/21/the-rod-blagojevich-celebrity-exchange-rate/
That’s a @#$%ing JOKE!
more and more of these “celeb” guests make no sense
especially the wizard world cons last year at the big apple wizard world con they had a ton of wrestlers and quite a few baseball guys and reality tv folks
now there is definitely crossover with sports and comic fans and big crossover with comic and wrestling fans but reality tv?
its sad to see these folks sitting at their table with nobody there talking to them and i dont go near celebs for fear they will try to charge me 20 bucks for something
Blago was charging something like $80 to take a picture with him. He was asked about it and replied something like, “I gotta make money for my family somehow”. I’m just like “Dude…”
I want to go to the Baltimore Comic-Con, but I don’t think I can get off work in order to go.
a lot of folks from the nyc area go to the baltimore con they all say its the best
a con dedicated to comics and all the pros that do that show love it
i have to get down there
Favorite comment so far.
“We need more of the Brabury chick with the cans”
Thanks D.
america has a lisbeth steeler and giant fans pre order your tickets now

i am currently watching ‘Casino Royale’ while trying to drink myself to sleep. just realized how ridiculous the parkour chase scene is. thought i’d share that.
hm, this must be what it’s like to have a facebook or twitter account.
The parkour scene is the only thing worth watching in the movie. Well, that and Eva Green’s breasts.
it is a cool scene, but it’s slightly over the top… which was probably the intention, but ya, the breasts are good.
My favorite part of that… After all the high tech toys and explosions… It is a simple “bump & run” that bests the villain.
Classic Nascar racing move.
dame judi dench is absolutely terrific as m and her chemistry with craig is excellent
She is so hot and naked in this movie. Also, she gets naked. A lot. Plus, there’s nudity.
Had me at Naked.
lol to both of you
I’m seeing this.
Yes, this is a must see………did anyone mention naked.
J.
Brill.
I’ll say this again: Maybe he’s NOT writing them.
What? And I guess next you are going to tell me there is no Santa Claus.
J.
because Joe Quesada has a boner for Brian Bendis.
doyou think bendis is trying to pull something honestly?
alan moore said . he has said he is trying to find ways to make people have diffrent psychological reactions and not even know it. through odd paneling, angles and claustrophobic settings.
i think bendis is doing the same in a way.
is bendis trying to fuck with us so much that we just snap . am i gonnna wake up clutching new avengers , in some asian families living room covered in blood?
i think so.
there is no way he thinks this is talented writing.
maybe he is trying to see how muchhe can get away with . like the guy who drew power girls boobs bigger ever issue untill someone would tell him to stop.
Occam’s razor, dude. I’ll always stick with the simplest explanation: Bendis is an idiot.
Except NOBODY at Marvel is going to tell him to stop. All the shit he has gotten away with over the years proves that.
J.
GitS.
Watching this tonight.
Looks interesting. I like Casey Affleck, I just don’t know if Jessica Alba can act. She is fine to look at though…

Nice pik Phil. I love the RAGE! 😛
Wow, Courtney…talk about someone who had their moment then blew it. She has a new record ( I haven’t heard it) and is on tour again. I still think Live Thru This and Celebrity Skin are great despite all her (multiple) issues.
I will always love Debbie Harry though…
Yeah, I never really did vibe to Courtney much. To this day.. Doll Parts is only song I like by her. I feel what you’re sayin’ about Ms. Harry, though.
and don’t forget that before Fergie, before Stefani, before Madonna and before Lady T, before all those ladies, Debbie was the 1st non sister to incorperate rap into her music (possible exception) Toni Basil.
Is that HR Giger cover art?? Gotta check that out
I loved ‘Live Through This’ when I was an angsty teen, but for me it’s a guilty pleasure today.
And I am in the ‘She had Kurt knocked off’ camp, sorry. I know it’s a retarded thing to say but it makes sense to me anyway
there was a second gunman
o.j. did it
it was a phantom punch
mighty mouse was sniffing a hallucinigin
keeping the rumor and conspiracy theorizing alive…eh, DF?
What does the “phantom punch” refer to?
According to some… the k.o. delivered by Ali to Sonny Liston back in the 60’s never landed.
i love comic hype
It just like when the movie companies claim the film they just released is “the feel good hit of the summer!”
Blueeergh!
I enjoyed his duet with Nicole Kidman on the “Somethin’ Stupid” cover.
IMO, Karl has always been a better inker.
Hey guyz,
Myspace is dead, Soundcloud rules, any of you guys on there with stuff to whore out? Here’s my shameless offering;
Gudd In Leeves by Greg Bird
interesting…….I’m gonna have to look this up
I’m not crazy about that sound where it is like a 33 being slowed down though
Hah hah, yeah it’s an acquired taste I guess…Chorus effect with side-chaining…I’ve been overdosing on Toro y Moi and Washed Out lately so I couldn’t resist
I also love how the You Tube videos always end with a “replay” button and I think, “No thanks. Once was definitely enough.”
I don’t know, it sure came in handy for that Fuck Me Ray Bradbury video.

Word.
There are exceptions to every rule. In this case, 2 exceptions.
Speaking of Nic Cage, I’ve been scrolling this bizarrely random website for the past half hour. Some of the pics are quite amusing.

Ha! Nic actually looked handsome as Sean Connery!
Great website.

To any tech-ies out there;
Has anyone encountered a problem with their modem in which you fixed it by running a program on line to kinda kickstart it back to the way it was before it got all glitchy?
Have you tried restarting your computer?
That usually works
Naahh. This has been goin’ on for months……..5 lights’ll shine green and then at any time the 3rd or 4th light will go red and its like “cancel x-mas” Rwstarting the computer just brings me back to square one
That’s all I can think of.
Sorry bubba
much appreciated anyway, D

ok i found this comic review show on youtube called Comic Dou its a couple of high schoolers reviewing books and while i would never say they are great reviewers or give thoughtful analysis but they are cracking me up. to me they are rare fans in that they are so young and not steeped in decades of marvel and dc continuity i find thier point of views interesting and they are exactly the demographics that comic industry is trying to capture but seems to do so less and less every year. but the reason im mentioning them here is that they are doing a bit of a bendis rant in their new avengers 3 review that i think many of many folks around will enjoy. and no they are ripping off E and J they seem to be finding faults with bendis all on their own which i as a fan of bendis’s ultimate spidey, powers and most of dark avengers find very interesting. plus these kinds could use some views so if you have some time and feeling charitable check them out,
K
Cool checking it now Kuru
Good too see kids still reading comics, there is hope.
Just gotta learn from the past (No 90s repeat)
2 kids Deemar. 2 kids.
2 more than 0
yeah im trying to think of how many kids i see come into my LCS 3 probably i mean highschoolers or jr hsers not little kids with their folks 1 guy reads a lot but doesnt seem to buy and his cute asian gal pal just hang around and chats and the other kid comes in and tells everyone about all his elsewhere world batman stories but doesnt seem to buy either
Depending when I go there are always a few. But my lcs has gaming tables set up and most of the time they are just hanging out playing magic or other card cames so i dont know if they ever by comics or not.

Cee-lo always brings the good tunes.
Wassup J
Ugh, I thought I could escape this song on here. Everyone and his fucking mother is posting this shit on Facebook. Ugh.
Catchy tune, but I got tired of it after the second listen-thru. It would be nice if he wrote some varied lyrics rather than repeat the same exact fucking chorus over and over.
Leave it to ballsack to ruin the mood.
😉
I am now kinda of happy that I ruined his mood. 🙂
J.

Is JMS’s Superman pretty good? Because I was considering checking it out.
No. It is not good.
J.
yeah I heard very mixed things about it.
So far it’s awful.
Oh, and just having him walk across America in his tights is LAME. I’d rather see Clark wandering about ala Bill Bixby or something akin.
Got my first piece of hate mail!
Over the Barbra Streisand post.
And I was complimenting her!
i was all happy about my first piece of hatemail it was over my avengers 2 article. i sent them back a dozen links that also said that book was shit.
Shit, I’m drunk.
I slammed up my Pull List of GNs and HCs for this week.
Some cool stuff! http://wp.me/pZr1Y-167
Which works have you read?
A lot of DD. Some of Sin City, some of the Elektra issues.
I never bothered with DK2. Enough bad reviews to keep me from even being curious at its work.
I simply mean HISTORY WRITES ITSELF.
Do I need to list the EXCEPTIONS to that statement as well?:-)
“have” their “box” of usable ideas…
Robocop 2 is not one of the shittiest movies ever made, not by a long shot. It doesn’t even come close to being as good as the first one, but it’s not awful. I never saw the third one, so I can’t comment.
I also felt that the 2nd was decent. but the 3rd really is awful. really bad.
Well, one of the shittiest movies you have ever seen is Magnolia so I think I’ll take that comment with a grain of salt. 😛
J.
I never said Magnolia was shitty. Just boring. There’s a slight difference, I think. It was well made boring shit.
Ohhhhh, thanks for explaining that. I can see where you are coming from now a bit better in regards to Magnolia. Robocop 2 was shitty though.
J.
HARD BOILED! Another miller work I constantly see at stores and wanna read so eagerly.
