  1. Friendly reminder:

NEW RULE: Please DO NOT post more than ONE video in a row on Open Threads. If you post 2 or more videos IN A ROW they will all be removed as well as any comments dealing with those videos. Having too many vid comments on Open Threads causes the thread page to load very slowly and I am kinda getting tired of threads becoming almost useless after a couple of days. Thanks.

This one’s for Insideman. Look for a possible review on his blog in the somewhat near future…maybe. 🙂

The screen shot of Joey Q’s Cup O’ Video 3 on the home page of CBR is stupid and so is the video.

  6. I have a plan for if I ever work for Marvel as a writer: Purposely write over-the-top scenes to see how far Marvel editors will let me go until they tell me, “Woah woah woah! You can’t do that!”

What is this, the 1950s? Somewhere, Fredric Wertham is smiling.

    • Deemar says:

She must have read a Bendis or Millar comic.

    • Probably would have worked better if the kids were reading Bendis comics. Ya know, because Bendis is single handily responsible for all future sociopaths on the account of all the violence, misogyny and apathy in his fucking shite comics. Fuck Bendis.

(This message has been approved by J.)

      J.

      • Deemar says:

        well that made me smile

        🙂

You know who really disturbs me? Garth Ennis, I had to stop reading the BOYS I actually felt it was fucking with my soul to keep reading his stuff.

        Crazy huh?

      • Why stop there? Millar can be responsible for all the criminals who throw babies out of windows and electrocute someone’s balls. And Loeb can be responsible for all the fanboiz who pursue their power fantasies which involve objectify women and yelling poorly written dialogue.

        • Deemar says:

Loeb should’ve been blamed a long time ago for Teenwolf2.

        • phil says:

Try watching a good movie when a baby spontaneously erupts into into a crying factory. Now I’m not advocating that the Olympics sanction official baby tosses, I’m just sayin’……. 🙂

  8. Wow, I’m being really negative right now… 😦 That’s a good sign that school is right around the corner…

On a happier note: I’m reading a lot of really awesome comic book series in absolutely no order! Scott Pilgrim, Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E., The Losers, Global Frequency, and old-school issues of ASM.

  9. I’ve been reading a lot of great stuff this year that has been a really surreal experiance reading. I feel that way because a lot of stuff I’ve been reading I never thought I’d like as much as I do now. For example: The Losers, Nextwave, Scarlet, Doomwar, Avengers Academy, Secret Avengers, Andy Diggle’s DD, Power Girl, AKA Goldfish,… damn I could go on and on! That’s one of the many great things about collecting comics!

  10. Urban Commando says:

    Daredevil…Is it really ending forever???

  11. Urban Commando says:

Hope your right comicbookdude….IT’s lame and clichéd, but much better then the series ending for good!

  12. Urban Commando says:

For once I hope you guys are right and this IS a shameful attempt for sales by Marvel. Because if this IS the end of Daredevil, it’s seriously bad news and it’s getting hardly any publicity at all!

    • There will no doubt be a “new” Daredevil” for a while and when people get really fucking sick of that Marvel WILL bring Matt back. No doubt.

      J.

    • Deemar says:

Marvel brought back Ravage 2099 (Oh so briefly, thank jeebus!)Matt Murdock will be DD again.

That’s why Nightcrawler’s death landed like dud, it really doesn’t matter at this point.

  13. Urban Commando says:

A new guy in a Daredevil suit? WOW, just hearing you bring up that lame, over-used concept I’m ALREADY sick of it. Originality is truly DEAD @ Marvel if they even attempt that.

    • Marvel’s originality died when they brought back Norman Osborn. btw who wrote that story? Because I kinda want to punch that person in the face. I HATE Norman Osborn. Dark Reign didn’t help fix that AT ALL. I got reeeeeeeeeeally sick of seeing his ugly mug in every Marvel comic I’d read (unless he was getting beaten up, which I love when that happens 🙂 )

    • They will UC. Haven’t you seen the “teaser” ads for the “NEW Man Without Fear”?

      http://marvel.com/news/comicstories.13462.who_will_be_the_new_man_without_fear%3F

      J.

      • W.T.F???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Kravin? Isn’t he dead? Also, he’s a coward! That’s his character! He cannot be a “man without fear”. Wow, Marvel really doesn’t give a damn anymore do they?

        • megamanx4ever says:

He got resurrected in The Grim Hunt spider-man story.

          • Again: W.T.F??????????????????????????????????????????????

I thought he died after he got resurrected? Dang, I’ve been lied to.

            • Nope. Kraven is still knocking about. Thanks Joey Q and Joe Kelly for ruining one of the best comic stories EVER. Asshats.

              J.

              • TheMSpot says:

                Fuck, Joe Kelly wrote that?

                • megamanx4ever says:

Wow Im probably the only person on CCW who liked Grim Hunt. 🙂

                  • Kraven’s Last Hunt was my first superhero comic ever. The fact the Marvel shat all over it didn’t make me very happy…at all.

                    J.

                    • megamanx4ever says:

I will admit it was no where near as good as The Gauntlet Rhino story or American Son story Joe Kelly did.

                    • TheMSpot says:

The Shat has hit the fan. Wait, that doesn’t sound wright. 🙂

                    • I feel your pain, J. As most of you the Ultimate Universe re-energized my interest in collecting comics. But then fucker Jeph Loeb had to piss and shit all over it with Ultimatum. What he’s currently doing in the Ultimate U isn’t helping change my feelings either.

I actually remember getting so angry over Ultimatum that I was throwing things and weeping a little bit. I couldn’t believe Loeb was doing what he was doing to the UU. That bastard owes me a piece of my soul.

(Forgive me for my salty language this evening guys. I’m usually not like this).

                    • Whoops! At the beginning I meant, “As most of you guys know…” Ugh, it’s getting late. I’m gonna call it a night soon.

                  • tomstewdevine says:

No megaman I liked it too. Guys like you and me probably don’t have that connection to kraven like Jose, and some of the people who have read comics a lot longer do.

                    • You are completely right Tom. I have a very, very strong emotional attachment to Kraven’s Last Hunt and that certainly DID play a part in me not liking Grim Hunt. The fact the Joe Kelly had Spidey almost RIP OFF Sasha’s FACE didn’t help matters. Sorry but that is NOT Spider-Man! How that got past the editors is beyond belief. Marvel is quickly killing my love for the first superhero I ever felt a connection to. OMIT very well could be the final nail in the coffin.

                      J.

                    • megamanx4ever says:

Because the editors dont give a shit unless you have a bad guy smoking.

                  • Zorba_of_the_Morningstar says:

I wasn’t sure going in, but I was happy with the ending. The spiffy art sure helped. Was the point of the while DeMattis short to let readers know that he was ok with the resurrection? I’m glad that the Kraven family was trimmed down. All for a waste thou, Kraven was a lame ass and dying was the only thing he did good. Cain and Julia Carpenter have promising story to tell coming out of it.

                  • SmokeyClocks says:

i thought the grim hunt was ok, nothing special, though i agree the rhino story was probably one of my favorite asm ones in recent history

                • Yes, Joe Kelly did write that. We did a video review for the first issue and liked it but it was completely down hill from there.

                  J.

                  • Edward2962 says:

How did it get pass the editors? Just remember Joe Kelly wrote for Marvel back when Toy Biz owned Marvel and they cancelled a proposed horror line. I think the editors now probably encouraged this mess. These are the same editors that let Clint Barton have sex with memory loss Wanda and Clint Barton try to kill Norman Osbourne. They’re sitting around thinking “Kids today like ‘edgy’ stuff so let’s appeal to their purient interests.”

                    • Edward2962 says:

I’ll never be mad at Spidey, just the people in charge who play to the lowest common denominator ( or what THEY think is the lowest denominator) to make a fast buck. It’s that mentality that hurts comics.

                  • Edward2962 says:

This was a drunk post. I meant to imply that it’s the same regime, not the individual editors. (smiley face)

              • Thankfully I have avoided Grim Hunt and haven’t read it…… yet.

  14. Urban Commando says:

HOLY F!!! NO I hadn’t seen that piece of crap…And I’m already pissed off that I did…WOW that is pathetic! I thought you were just assuming the worst out of Marvel.

    • Deemar says:

      Good man save the day!

      Hope she’ll alright

      • Insideman says:

Yeah she has MS. She tries her best but she falls on occasion. Tonight she happened to fall at 1:30am PDT.

Been friends since she was a young kid. She was a RN at LA Childrens Hospital. After dealing with this disease for 20 years, she finally had to take an early retirement.

All her friends have abandoned her. No one calls anymore. No one comes by. Her Dad’s dead. Her brother suffered young from a brain tumor. Her Mom lives in New York. I’m the only person left.

I had to wind my way through the mounds of paperwork that were thrown at her by the Federal Government when she retired young– but just like everything else in my life– I taught myself, figured it all out and got her all the benefits that she was due.

People ask me why I do it. Try to make me out as some “angel” or something… and I simply tell them SHE WOULD HAVE DONE IT FOR ME.

It’s the ONLY way I know how to repay years of trust and friendship. All the other fair weather friends can go screw. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  18. Edward2962 says:

I’m going use my one vid post card on this one cuz I think it rules…

I can tie it into comics. In Avengers #137 where the Beast joins he explains to the Avengers that he got over his depression about being furry by listening to Stevie Wonder. I’m serious! Read the comic!

  28. Whew! I’m on Scott Pilgrim volume 6!!! I finished reading volume 5 really quickly and I thought, “Holy crap am I really finished with this volume???” Scott Pilgrim is not only one of the best comic books I’ve read this year, it’s one of the best comic books I’ve ever read.

Have any of you guys read High Society by Dave Sim? My Dad bought the TPB of it for me because he felt that it was a story I’d need to read to become a good writer. I’m enjoying it so far.

    • Deemar says:

Having a marathon reading session CBD?

      • Heck yeah Dee! I bought so much reading material at Wizard World that it’s distracting me from the reading I’m supposed to be doing for school over the summer, dangit! Good thing is I’m 3/4ths done with one book for school and almost half-way through the other book for school. Gotta get it done in 2 and 1/2 days! Can I do it? YES I… can?

    • phil says:

I’ve checked out a few of the early issues of Sim’s Cerebus, but that’s about it.
Oh and that issue of Spawn that gueststarred Cerebus and cameoed about all the heroes in the DC and M universe although they were someowhat strategically obscured by well placed shadows.
To answer the question that was asked…..um, no I’ve never checked out HighSociety 🙂

  29. phil says:

Anyone else pick up Guarding the Globe? I thought it was good, but not blow your mind away good. 6 pgs of filler, 22 pgs of story

  30. Mike F says:

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I BID YOU THE THEME SONGS OF THE CCW NATION!

    http://soundcloud.com/comic-culture-warrior-ost

Well, I’ve only written three, but I worked hard on them, and hope you guys enjoy it.

Deemar, did the profile shots for the characters. As time goes by I’ll be able to make a theme for you all, but with working full time, it’ll be a while. Until then, enjoy Pobra’s theme, Deemar’s theme and Jose’s Battle theme 🙂

If anyone has a special request in terms of music they love, when I compose their theme, I’ll try to incorporate that genre! 🙂

  31. TheMSpot says:

Daredevil: Reborn that sounds familiar. Oh yeah, they did the same to Captain America. Oh shit.

  32. TheMSpot says:

Anyone else see Kirkman on Freshink?

  33. TheMSpot says:

That is one of Maberry’s favorite comics right now, on his blog he will be doing a interview with him (Kirkman) that will be posted around the time the show airs. That was another funny moment when I met Maberry was a friend of Maberry’s saw my issue of Marvel U vs. The Punisher and asked Maberry didn’t I read this in black and white last month, and laughs were had all around.

  34. TheMSpot says:

Does Marvel practice what they preach?

“I think in general we have a pretty simple philosophy at Marvel,” said Brevoort. “We want to sell comics, that’s our business, but our belief where everything comes from is ‘People like good stuff.’ People want good stories, people like things that are well done. ‘Good material equals good sales’ is the fundamental underlying premise that underlies everything we do.”

    • Deemar says:

      It ain’t working Mikey

oh and sorry for my baby tantrum.

    • Mike F says:

Yeah I had it set to private by mistake. I just changed it, working now?

    • phil says:

Jose’s theme: Got that hangin’ ’round the cemtary at X-mas funk to it. Seems more like a CBSack theme…………gr8 sound, nonetheless

Dee’s Theme: has that ancient Indian burial ground groove goin…sounds sacred, but u can still bop your head to it

      Pobra’s theme: Kraftwerk meets Yaz

The Mighty…, well Me.. How quickly an opinion can change. At 1st I was like what’s with daggone whistlin’, then after about 8 seconds I was jammin’ to it…kind of a 70’s theme 2000ed up! Is it wrong of me that I liked mine the best?

      Excellent job, Mike

      • Deemar says:

        You two get a room

        😉

        • phil says:

Ha ha…you know how much rooms cost these days?

b t w I happened to go back to Mike’s themes and by happenstance found out that you could click on the thumbnails next to the songs, and they would enlarge.

Pobra “Commander” was a nice touch

I dug that apparently the bastard child of Bishop & Blade (I feel kinda bad now makin you a Black Daredevil) I’m gonna have to give you a less parodyish look in the future………On the other hand I’m sure you’ll dog me at some point in Deemar’s Sunday Funnies, so I’ll play it by ear 🙂

Yourself: Dig u, lookin’ like a Superfied Black Knight

Short end of the stick? Mr. Melendez’ deal is looking like str8 up Jose Potter, or am I misreading it?

      • Mike F says:

Haha, I’m happy you liked it.

Overall, I worked hardest with Jose’s theme, because I played the organ, then recorded my clarinet, then bass, some bells, finally drums. There’s a lot of tracks on it, and I’m quite proud of it. Its an old melody I wrote a while back for a video game that never went anywhere, and I’m happy I could use it.

Deemar’s theme was the most fun to play, cause it was really easy to move to it. I wanted it to have the same vibe as “Cammy’s theme” from street fighter.

Phil’s, your theme was fun too. Ever since I bought that Midi, I’ve been able to do lots of synth sounds, so I’m trying to have as much fun with them as possible, same with Pobra’s theme.

        still to come,

        INSIDEMAN\MSPOT\and we’ll just make the last a surprise 😉

    • phil says:

Hey Mike, I’m lookin’ to do a podcast or somethin’ in the near futre. Any chance you could let me use the song that you composed for me to use as my thems song….providing of course if I can find a seamless way of incorporating it

    • Insideman says:

That’s OK… It was over about 6 years ago by his own hand. This bs just puts a stamp on it. (And reinforces what I keep saying about writers having “X” number of good stories in them.)

    • tomstewdevine says:

I read this earlier and I don’t think this changes much. I bet a lot of people, that have over 100 long boxes, have read maybe too many superhero story’s to continue to enjoy them. Kurt is a golden and silver age kinda guy, he puts so much continuity in his comics that it is almost to the point of too much. I don’t think it’s surprising that some people don’t like Hickman’s style of a lot of information but not a lot of answers and just hints in terms of plot. I love it but that’s just me. Busiek has still done great things for comics, just a small sample: without him, no Parker on T-Bolts.

      • Insideman says:

You’re right Tom… This won’t change a thing in the industry.

Except for the person who wrote it. (Be it Busiek or XXXX or XXXXX). Their professional life is damaged… Whether they profess to not want to write DC or Marvel crossover events anymore… or not.

A lot of older writers threw out the same kind of rhetoric during their careers. Now people like Wolfman and Wein would give their left nut just for ONE regular monthly writing gig.

The industry is that small and that petty.

And whatever happened to “Never Say Never”? This writer may not want to write those events today– but they may also want to put food on their table in a couple of years too.

If it’s Busiek– it doesn’t matter. Somewhere in the last 5 to 6 years he ran out of talent (at least while working for the majors). After that 52-week crapfest– “Trinity”– and the other Superman crap he recently wrote for DC… I would give him his wish (if it is his wish) and keep him off mainstream superhero books forever (or at least the foreseeable future).

      • Deemar says:

I think it does one positive thing, it gives us a peek behind the curtain a real peak. Not some CBR sponsored “Exclusive”

      • Hey Tom, you KNOW I love Hickman but Busiek is right about his books. I seriously, SERIOUSLY. think that if he is not careful Hickman WILL BE the new Bendis. I am sick of Secret Warriors and almost DONE with FF for the EXACT reason Busiek mentions. There is NOT enough story in each issue. Hickman IS writing for the fucking trade just like BENDIS taught him to. SHIELD n the other hand is a different thing all together. THAT is classic Hickman.

Man, I have been meaning to get that off my chest for a while.

        J.

        • Deemar says:

It’s a night of coming clean, I’ve felt the same way about Hickman’s SW and FF, but I do find his Fantastic Four smart and full of ideas unlike *Cough* Millar *cough*

It’s what I’ve said before, Bendis is bleeding into the very fabric of Marvel, there is no aspect of the current Marvel U that doesn’t have his influence and notice the bit that don’t. Criticaly acclaimed but fails to sell.

I really think the general fandom are a bunch of fuckwits.

        • tomstewdevine says:

I have felt it coming from you for a while. And it’s very understandable, I dropped secret warriors about 8 months ago just for that reason. I still like FF, and SHEILD is one of my favorite books, even though it is still in the early stages.

          • Deemar says:

Yeah, it’s like taking a really…really…really…reaaallly satisfying dump.

Hickman’s S.H.I.E.L.D. is what keeps me on his team.

He is razor close to being “Bendized”

            Trademark!

          • Hickman and Bendis had VERY similar starts in comics. They both wrote and drew intelligent, engaging comics while at Image. At Marvel they mostly have become water downed versions of their former selves. I really hope that Hickman can escape that fate before it is too late.

            J.

    • I wish I could give Busiek a terrorist fist bump right now. Much respect.

He is just saying what the CCW has been saying for years. Why is that so wrong? I will now buy the first couple of issues of whatever comic he puts out next (regardless if they are good or not) in support.

      J.

      • Deemar says:

        He definately got my attention.

        Again.

After Trinity I did kinda write him off.

      • Insideman says:

I totally agree with both you guys. But I do want to make the following clear:

I’m not saying I dislike Kurt. I’m not saying others should dislike him… And I am sure as hell not saying that he should be penalized for TELLING THE TRUTH.

I am just saying he WILL be penalized.

I think if Kurt said it– and if he is now owning up to it… He has TREMENDOUS BALLS. And I think it’s great if you want to support him on that by buying his books in the future.

Otherise, I am only telling the truth. If he did write this statement– the bigwigs will NOT let this slide. They will “NOTE” it. This is a man who made his BANK on the superhero genre– from BOTH of the Big Two.

They will NOT like him shitting on their party.(Can you imagine Tom Brevoort taking these statements with a grain of salt? Man’s got thinner skin than almost anybody in comics.)

The only other fact I noted was that Trinity sucked major and his recent (from the last 2 years or so) Superman sucked balls too.

If those two efforts are indicative of his current superhero mindset… He is played out– at least as far as the superhero genre goes.

Every writer loses his muse. I have TONS of Busiek work in my PERMANENT COLLECTION. I have recently bought several of his Marvel HC reprints. I have nothing but respect for the man’s talent.

But if you had told me he was ever going to write something as shitty as TRINITY… After writing Astro City and Marvels– I would have laughed at you so hard my balls would’ve shook off.

(And if anything– his superb Conan ADAPTATION work from a couple of years ago DOES prove he has something left in the tank, Deemar. Still, you’d have to be the biggest hack in the world to ruin a Conan ADAPTATION. Robert E. Howard literally wrote like a comic book writer. You could hand a great artist a Conan book and I bet they could almost adapt some of those stories with NO words and they would still look beautiful and be completely understandable.)

    • TheMSpot says:

For the most part I agree with his statements, but the one that caught me was him saying something to the effect of Marvel wants flashy artists to make up for the lack of good story telling. So, what would you say about MARVELS?

  35. Insideman says:

Here’s HOPEFULLY something good that will come from this mess.

I just purchased the Good Neighbors Vol 1 and Vol 2 HCs that Kurt touts… And I dig Ted Naifeh’s artwork.

Both books are listed 7th Grade and up… So I figured I might be able to understand them if I take.it.real.slooooooooooow.

  36. TheMSpot says:

With all the Stone Cold references I was wondering if anyone saw The Expendables? Any Good?

  37. I will be a good Mexican and go see Machete next weekend.

  38. MyComicLife says:

I totally agree with what Busiek said, well in truth he actually said what we here in the CCW nation have been bitching about for ages.

About Hickman’s storytelling. to be honest i stoped reading his books along time ago, although i am reading SHIELD. He has some fantastic ideas (no pun intended) but he just takes too long to piece all his story plots together. I personally think if his books were out more regularly, say weekly, than it woudnt be so bad, atleast the story will be moving at a much more interesting pace. it sometimes feels as if he is writing for a television series.

Nowadays i find myself avoiding the top superhero books as much as possible. I have practically stopped reading DC books because of the whole blackest night, brightest day bullshit. the only DC books i read is wonderwoman and powergirl, at least these two books dont heavily rely on the DC continuity crapfest. i used to follow REBELS, but i got discouraged with it when they brought in the blackest night crossover.

I really hate Crossovers, For example one of my favourite books that im reading right now is thunderbolts. but according to the marvel solicitations, the next 2 issues are going to be Shadowland crossovers. That really pisses me off. its really difficult for a writer to change the entire story plot of his book, just to fit in with some other writers crapass story. I dont really care much about shadowland or daredevil, why cant i just get my jeff parker thunderbolts story.

This was the same in x factor, when the whole second coming bullshit invaded peter david’s story flow. Those 2 or 3 second coming issues of x factor were really bad, they dint feel like the xfactor that i usually read.

I think to really pick out a good storytelling comic book, is by evaluating your reaction after you just finished reading it.

    Examples

Bendis books- My eyes roll up so high that they actually rotate back around to admire the good artwork.

Millar books- i end up throwing the comic book out the window.

Loeb books- makes me cry thinking about the future of comic books

Parker books- makes me happy and i just end up reading the book all over again

Hickman books- makes me confused, but also leaves me with a sensation of wanting more, but still confused.

JMS books- makes me appreciate the art of good pacing in a story

Warren Ellis- makes me laugh out loud and i end up just loving the characters in his story.

    Geoff Johns- ……………………….?

Morrison- Not sure whether to like it or despise it.

    • vegedge says:

you should check out mike migola and john arcudi. both are amazing writers.

mignola does hellboy(been going awesome since 1994)

and arcudi writes the spin off to hellboy, BPRD(which surpasses hellboy in every way now. its awesome)

both dont get enough credit ithink. they are wrapping up these major storylines that have been building for years now. i honestly think they could be the best comics out now. them and their spin offs like lobster johnson, baltimore, witchfinder.

    • Hehehe… I’m gonna write out my reactions to comic book writers:

Bendis: Causes me to fall asleep in most cases

Millar: Causes me to throw his book on the floor

Quesada: Wow, this man really doesn’t give a damn does he?

      Morrison: WTF?

Hickman: My brain hurts… (not a bad thing at all)

Parker: Wow! This guy can write a comic book!

Kirkman: Wow! This guy can write a comic book!

Loeb: Wow! This guy can write a- oh wait no he can’t. Never mind.

Johns: That was awesome! (OR) That was crap!

Ellis: This guy is INSANE-LY good at writing a comic book. And flat out insane as well

Fraction: (reads IIM) Man, this guy can write characters really well! (reads Uncanny) WTF is this crap?

JMS: MY level of respect rises for the man each time I read one of his books.

      Slott: This generation’s Stan Lee

    • Deemar says:

Dan Slott – Brings me back to the stories I read as a kid.

in grim hunt i did not understand what spiderman did to kravens wifes face. he touched it, and left a bloody gory palm print burned into it…. he can so that now? he has the burning touch of man thing?

    • phil says:

Better that burning touch, than that burning feeling in the bathroom 🙂

    • Edward2962 says:

Spiderman used his power to cling to walls to pull part of her face off. Other folk here and other sites think this was out of character for Spiderman. I mostly agree. He basically used his power not to restrain her or fight her, but to mutilate her face. Even guys like Logan or the Punisher who kill bad guys don’t go this far.

FRINGE got me back that god awful musical episode drove me away but i finally watched the last 3 episodes of the season a couple of weeks ago and they got me back very excited about the new season
very nice guest spot by martha plimpton btw
what do the red head appreciation warriors around here think of olivia with red hair? its like they know deemar and j are watching.

    • MyComicLife says:

i too cant wait for the new season….its the only show right now on tv that keeps my interest. im really disappointed with true blood season 3.
And YES olivia looks hot as a red head

    • Anna Torv is a natural redhead I believe, so that works out well. Torv was also the model and voice for the main character in the Heavenly Sword PS3 game…who was also a redhead.

Glad to see you got back to Fringe, Kuru. Those lost couple of episodes were excellent as was the cliffhanger ending.

      J.

      • kurumais says:

after being away from the show a few months i noticed a big difference in olivia’s characterization she really much more expressive not so much much the strong silent protagonist she started out as

  44. kurumais says:

never heard of this show from nbc i wonder if it will get on the air

  45. crank up the speed! How about in 36 seconds. But thats my taste cause I even like 180 bpm’s 😛

  46. Edward2962 says:

Hi, I have a question. I was in a major book store chain earlier and read Spiderman 639. I admit it, I was curious as to what explanation they would give for not getting married. Now maybe this was dealt with somewhere and I missed cuz I don’t read Spidey regularly anymore, but in this story they mention the unmasking. I guess OMD Mesphisto made everyone forget his identity. My question is…what does Pete think happened now? Is he like, “I unmasked on world wide TV, what a stroke of lucky no one saw my face”?

    • It was revealed in the last issue (sort of) that Doctor Strange is the one responsible for making people forget that Pete is Spidey.

      J.

      • Edward2962 says:

Thank’s for the info. However, that reminds me of something else…in House of M when the heroes find out what happened, Pete asked Dr Strange to put a spell on him so Pete would forget the false happy life and Doc said something like “My magic doesn’t work like that.” So he CAN’T make one guy forget something, but he CAN make millions of people forget something?
I wanted to say something about Doc being a a deux ex machina, but I’m not sure it even makes sense here.

        • MicahSkin says:

He’s always been one. That was his entire Shtick in the 80’s. He took down Galactus with ONE spell. Entire space faring civilizations have been destroyed by this guy and he uses “Images of Ikon” and Galactus’s mind shuts down.

        • Well, in the last issue of Amazing Pete goes to Strange and asks him to make people forget. Strange said he “needs to think about it” and that’s kinda how the issues ends. So, Strange hasn’t actually done anything…yet. I guess it is possible that something else causes people to forget Spidey’s indentity. I’ll let you know what happens in he next issue.

          J.

@Jose: You posted a video about that “CATHERINE” anime, by Atlus, do you know when its coming out? I couldn’t find a release date…

  49. We have a new comic book publisher in the Netherlands; Nona Arte.
Their italian roots are with Panini Comics that had the Marvel license.

Here is the line-up for 2010/2011

    Marvel Zombies by Kirkman
    Kraven’s Last Hunt
Avengers dissasembled & New Avengers by the Bendis
    Violent Cases by Gaiman
    Daredevil: Born Again
    Punisher: Welcome Back Frank
    Kick-Ass
    Invincible!

(Bone, Sin City, Walking Dead, Y The Last Man are titles that are currently being published by other publishers in the NL)

The number of US Comics translated to dutch has been very little the last 10 years. Amazing Spider-Man got cancelled last year after 30 or so years!

But its not all that is bad. There have been 1000’s of titles translated over the years.
Me I always buy the original US Comics.(I got a couple of translated comics. Thats how it started for me).

Anyway, I think the extra addition of superhero comics to the netherlands is a very good thing. I do think Nona Arte is a bit in Cloud 9 for bringing in Bendis Avengers. Lets hope the dutch are sane enough to stick with Invincible.

  50. Oops..I just finished Avengers 4 and I mildly enjoyed it… the to be continued came too soon for me..uhh..its a $4 book! (I drop this series at issue 6: Red Hulk joins the Avengers in 7? 4 Real?)

Jose!!! i just started reading Gantz!!! i recalled you suggesting it all the time and my bud brought a couple of the books over the other day. it was pure destiny! anyway, went through vol 1 and 2 in super speed and i want more!!! my roomie is reading it as we speak too. i can`t find any avi files for the animated series though…think you can help a brotha out?
either way, thanks a lot for hammering this on the CCW vids! this will be the second manga i ever read (first being Battle Royale).

    • Mike F says:

Gantz is great. If there’s ANY possible complaint, its that its a often a short read (for me) since a lot of the story is visual. I can’t imagine how beautiful it’d be in full comic length rather than reader’s-digest size…

      • Johnny Cockburn says:

ya i def prefer the manga. it`s more detailed and the visuals are more coherent. i just watched a couple of random episodes and the girls voice is like hammers on my brain. and the subtitles kind of ruined Gantz` charm. still, me likey.

  60. Readin’ Doomwar right now!!! I FINALLY found most of the issues I was missing except #2, but I figured I’d skip #2 ’cause I’m tired of waiting to read Doomwar.

I have no idea why people hated this book. I cannot think of one GOOD reason why people hated it. I’m loving it. Maberry really uses the characters in situations that make sense for them. I cannot tell you how I’m loving how Maberry is writing Dr.Doom. Doom is my favorite American comic book villain and it is SO refreshing to see a villain, especially Doom, whose motives make sense and are not cliched. I give Doomwar TWO THUMBS UP!

  61. Mike F says:

Hey that Big Bang Theory guy won an Emmy!

Now we can see him do more stereotypical “comic book” moments, since all nerds are scientists, up-tight, extremely high maintenance and straight up annoying! 🙂
