Wow, that one crazy ass movie, it has a little bit of everything. Drunken Fighting, Break dancing fighting. Training montage in a strange location, even a fight on rope bridges over a bottomless pit. I am soooo going to get this movie.

Although I will never understand the Asian fascination with causing actually harm to their movie stars =)

    I’m sold.

Mixing break dancing with martial arts. It’s Capoeira on steroids

    • kurumais says:

did anyone see power kids? i was disappointed they basically only hd two fight scenes that were about an hour apart. which was sad because they were both well staged maybe a little long but pretty good. in the middle of the movie i though ok they are going for a 3 ninjas younger kids movie then they break out the automatic weapons and the level of violence shoots way past cartoon. and i thought most of humor was cruel. i couldnt make heads or tails out the movie

  3. I apologize in advance for possibly spoiling anyone’s week, but Joe Quesada has been giving a week long “Cup O’ Joe” interviews to Comic Book Resources about what will no doubt be the nominee for the “Golden Loeb award,” One Moment in Time. So far two parts are up, where he explains why One Moment in Time had to be done and how he decided to use the Wedding Annual for part 1. However, the big quotes (to me any way) are these:

“Remember the twist I mentioned at the beginning of this conversation, this is what I was talking about. MJ unknowingly beat Mephisto at his own game. By agreeing to MJ’s terms, Mephisto has actually wiped himself from ever having been involved in their lives. In fact, looking at it linearly, those four issues never happened. Along with the wedding, “One More Day” and Mephisto have been wiped out of continuity and Peter and MJ never made that bargain.

    Ooooooh, me hears something breaking.”

“By the way, let me add, that Dan Slott was also unbelievably helpful during this period as he helped me formulate some of the ideas that eventually be used in “OMIT.” Dan is a champ and an idea machine and I just wanted to give him a big shout out and thanks.”

Except that if she outsmarted him to the point of never being involved with their lives, then there was never any deal, so Pete and MJ are still married and Aunt may and Harry are dead, right? Right..?

      • Which is why this is a paradox. Because of Peter and MJ’s deal with Mephisto, they never got married….
But because they never got married, Peter and MJ never made the deal with Mephisto…
But in order for them not to have been married, Peter and MJ had to make a deal with Mephisto….

Oh…see how Joe Q is bringing this shit on Dan Slott’s shoulders.

He barely mentions Slott in most other interviews or hypes Dan’s past projects, but he throws him too the sharks with OMIT?

      I’m seeing a pattern here.

  6. TheRichestManinTown says:

On this episode of WHAT DID GAIL SIMONE WRITE?!

Songs about dicks, putting it in Batman’s butt, helpless broads, lady abuse, three women still unable to pass the Bechdel test, and everyone wants Batman to get them pregnant. That’s right, Gail Simone wrote this episode and boy does it feel like a Bendis.

    • Venom829 says:

WHOA THAT’S CRAAAAAAZY!!!!!! I’m trying to find the lyrics to this song ASAP!

    • And thats the third time this vid gets posted on CCW within a week!

I really do not like that show, lol.

      • kurumais says:

i thought it was fun and i believe women are allowed innuendo and dirty jokes too

        • TheRichestManinTown says:

The problem is that all they did was talk about guys the entire episode. Then their fights were lack luster as well.

        • prying eyes says:

thatsall they seem to be used for in media.

always the sexy girl hero who makes innuendos and beating up guys while wearing underwear and heels.

its kinda sick that this is how we constantly see women in all media, and they wonder why girls are having selfesteem issues, and guys problems respecting women. they are seen as sex, nothing more.

hell dc just put out a movie about super girl. and named it superman.batman:apocatlypse…

the editors had to fight to get supergirl even on the cover, and she is dressed evil with clevage.

          its messed up.

Joe Quesada: Remember the twist I mentioned at the beginning of this conversation, this is what I was talking about. MJ unknowingly beat Mephisto at his own game. By agreeing to MJ’s terms, Mephisto has actually wiped himself from ever having been involved in their lives. In fact, looking at it linearly, those four issues never happened. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=28545

    • TheMSpot says:

Yeah, I read those interviews, and Joe Quesada is a fucking idiot.

    • Venom829 says:

      WTF???!!! FU JOEY Q!!!

    • So why write OMD is it never really happened? He’s just revealed to everyone what a complete idiot he is and if anyone is actually going to swallow this they’re almost as dumb as Quesada. I have never been so offended to be a comic book fan ever in my life after reading what happened on OMD/OMIT.

    • Pobra says:

      *face-palm* jeebus joe, wtf?

    • Heck says:

Peter should have found a way back to his timeline and defeated the Devil like, oh I don’t know, a HERO? Then he could have stayed married to MJ or they could have just broke up over facing down the fucking DEVIL.

You don’t need a cosmic shift for two people to drift apart! I, of all people, would know this.

    • Here’s the best response I’ve seen in reaction to Quesada’s statement–although it is pretty harsh since a simple “wrong” would have done just fine. πŸ˜‰

      • prying eyes says:

maybe joe is saying that because… JMS wrote omd. and its fucking dumb. they should have let him do it in the first place. all of bnd which had alot of awesome moments was overshadowed by omd and its bullshit.

omit shows how mephisto changed history. he went back and changed small moments here and there and blam! fixed. why? because joe q is trying to fix his mess up of allowing OMD to happen in the first place.

good luck to dan slott on his Amazing spiderman. he has alot of work to do to make this good, but i think he can. he made the only good avengers book while bendis was squeezing the life out of the franchise.

        • To be clear, this clip was being used in response to what Joe Quesada said. πŸ˜‰

And speaking of JMS, Quesada in this interview not only pretty much throws JMS’ under the bus, he’s the one driving the bus. Throughout this interview, Quesada basically implies that if JMS had wrote what he was supposed to write instead of his plan to re-write history all the way back to Amazing Spider-Man #98 (which, I agree, would have made things a whole lot worse continuity-wise that what we’ve wound up getting), then not only would One More Day have been a better story, but that there would have been no need for One Moment in Time either. Which is convenient scapegoating considering how JMS no longer works for Marvel and now writes for DC.

And re: Dan Slott, in part 2 of the interview, guess who Quesada thanks for helping him “formulate some of the ideas” that were used in One Moment in Time?

        • Except that Quesada mandated everything that happened in OMD. You are correct that JMS wrote the story BUT he was being told what to write. By the end of that story Quesada changed so many things that it was no longer JMS’ story. That is why the writer of the last issue of OMD was credited as Joe Quesada. The original story of OMD strayed so far what it was originally to be that JMS refused to take any credit for it. So yes, OMD was fucking dumb and you can that Quesada for that.

Quesada did the exact same thing to JMS in the Spidey “Sins Past” storyline. Joe fucked up Spider-Man all by himself and everyone (well, almost everyone) knows it.

          J.

          • Deemar says:

Your not seeing the pattern, Joey Q uses writers as shields/speed bumps for his shit ideas.

He did it to JMS, even Bendis to a certain extent with ‘House of M’ now Slott.

          • Zorba_of_the_Morningstar says:

Quesadilla didn’t say, “JMS I want a lame ass gray goblin that is Norman and Gwen’s love child. Make it happen! No. He said I don’t want these to be Peter’s kids. Use someone else, maybe Norman? Did JMS HAVE to use this story idea? No, he wrote that bull shit all himself. I hate that people go out of their way to make excuses for that hack.
JMS was onboard for OMD long before it came time to write those issues. He could have chosen to end his run before OMD. How is it Q’s fault that JMS wrote basically, a complete reboot of Amazing?

            • And I am sick of people defending that hack Quesada. We agree to disagree.

              J.

              • Zorba_of_the_Morningstar says:

The sad thing is, Joe Q doesn’t have much talent making comics, especially as a writer. Still OMIT was better written than JMS’s Superman. That is very sad.

                • OMIT solidifies Spider-Man as a completely broken character. The JMS Supes is just a terribly bad Superman story that the character will easily be able to overcome.

                  J.

                  • Heck says:

Idk, Didio seems intent on destroying Superman. I’ve noticed that DC has breaking that character for years, partly to build Batman up and partly (I think) cause they’re afraid they’re going to lose him.

Spiderman needs a total retool. Start from scratch and rebuild the character, but in order to do that the whole Marvel U would have to restart and that’s not something Joey Q would allow.

            • Heck says:

I’d be fine with them being Peter’s kids. I don’t like them dragging Gwen’s name through the dirt. Misogyny central over at the house of ideas.

        • Deemar says:

Agree if anyone can un-taint Spider-man it’s Dan, but Slott ain’t Bendis. Quesada will bully him and force him to do insanely bad shit to Spider-man.

I just got Pride Of Baghdad today and I finished reading it, and I have to say it it is probably one of the best comics I have ever read, and this is probably one of the very few times I actually cried at the end of a story.

    • Glad you read Pride of Baghdad. That is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I read it in one sitting and at the end I felt like my heart had just been torn out. I cried too. I’m considering having my English and History teacher read it. Easily my favorite Veritgo book by a million miles.

  19. Has anyone here read JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice? I just bought it today for $9. It was a bit of a leap of faith because I haven’t heard much about it and I seem to remember J saying that it was good in a video (maybe you were just talking about it?)

    • ed2962 says:

I read it mostly cuz I like Carlos’s art. Nothing groundbreaking, but I thought it was a fun superhero romp. ( if I ever start a goth/glam band I’m gonna name myself Johnny Sorrow-smiley!)

i agree i got the hardcovet and every one in a while i break it out to look at the art solid story with art most beauteous

  20. For those of you have been watching High School of the Dead:

The last episode aired last week and I thought it was only so-so. Turns out that it wasn’t the last episode after all. There is an OVA coming out in a month that will finish the series. Just thought you would want to know.

thats seem astronomically high to me just judging from folks i see at shops and cons
i would say the bulk of the comic readers are between 30 and 50 though

    still interesting stuff

  24. Heck says:

I saw the Superman/Batman Apocolypse flick, and my gods that shit was weak. Such a terrible film.

In other news, I’m watching this tonight:

    So far, so good.

    • I just watched this again a few nights ago! Let me know what you think.

      J.

      • Heck says:

I enjoyed it! I thought the narration was a little too much, but it worked. It felt like a younger, British American Beauty. I really liked all the flashbacks to when he was little, and the scene with the fat model guy was hilarous.

        Did you like it J?

        • I like that film a lot and would put it in my personal Top 10. For me the interior monologue was just right. It did border on almost being too much.

I dug the flashbacks too. They were very relatable to me. I also sort of have a thing for the actress Emilia Fox ever since seeing her in the Chemical Brothers “Setting Sun” video. That’s probably another reason I like the film so much.

Sean Ellis directed this video with Amilia in it as well as Shaun Evans from Cashback.

          J.

          • Heck says:

What is your Top 10, J? I feel like I’d like a lot of the same stuff.

She was really cute. I liked the flashback scenes to when they were kids and the girl that would show them her stuff. That was funny, and semi relatable. I went through the same kind of thing with an ex. We broke up and I found I had all this time to sit and think about things I’d rather not think of. I could totally relate to the chap.

            • My Top 10 is always in flux. As I grow older I keep revising it. And these are not my picks for best films from a technical standpoint but from a personal standpoint. These are also films that I just never really get tired of watching. As it stands right now these are the top 10 that come to mind:

              Blade Runner
              In the Mood for Love
              Trainspotting
              Cashback
              The Princess Bride
              When Harry Met Sally
              Ping Pong
              Manic
              Amelie
              Magnolia/Punch-Drunk Love

I could add at least another 20 or 30 more films that I like almost just as much as these but if I could only make a list of 10/11 this would be it.

              J.

              • Mike F says:

Wow, that’s a pretty damn good list. I recall the first time I saw Blade Runner. I was with my cousin, and it blew me away. One of the best sci-fi flicks ever.

I feel like my list changes alot. All I really do is watch films anyway, LOL. Garden State is my favorite though, not only on a scale of beauty and style but just because it resonated with me majorly. I love that film on all levels.

that6 you need to mess with the foundation of the character?
    i dont get it

  32. kurumais says:

some random thoughts about comics ive read this week

Capatain America patriot 2 I loved this book as good as issue 1 if not better I had one major nitpick about the human torch in this issue if you read it im sure you’ll spot it.
This the type of comic that made me a comic fan and keeps me a comic fan

Cap 610 I have a love hate relationship with brubakers cap and this story is no different there have been so many terrific moments so many great lines but brubaker shoves past continuity and characterization out of his way so often it just irks me. Helmut zemo face is horrible scarred because he saved steve Rogers life . zemo has saved the world more then once. Its very hard to see his motivations and his actions in here ringing true but his dialog about redemption absolutely did . its hard for me process the discrepancy. I think much of the dramatic moments and tension between zemo and bucky could have done much better in an unlikely team up leading up to very violent confrontation between 2 guys both who exist in a grey area who learn they don’t like each other at all.
But im not of two minds on butch guice and rick magyar art I LOVE IT this is my favorite art of the entire run, how they are channeling the styles of past artists on cap’s long history is just genius and amazing to see . have I mention how much I love it?

The back up story was actually pretty good its had some good character moments between rikki and steve. It would be nice if they moved this relationship toward a buffy/giles like relationship where rikki is clearly the star of strip but steve is the mentor/father figure then this back up would actually make sense .

Avengers prime 3 alan davis should draw more comic a lot more comics

    • Deemar says:

I have the same Brubaker hate/love thing too.

      He’s getting his stride again.

      I’m talking about a comic writer like he’s a race horse, I dehumanize what I love. 😦

I’m listening to the Word Balloon podcast with Brubaker. Every time I listen to these I enjoy listing to the comic creator, but god damn is the host fucking annoying.

  35. Mike F says:

Everyone hated the ONE MORE DAY but I wonder if anyone remembers when DC pulled that trick with the Flash? Where, Linda’s twins died before birth, and then Wally asked some villain dude to make the world forget or some shit, and then idk more USA bullshit, Retconin, last minute, never as good as Naoki Urasawa, nonsense!

IDK, its just a shame when writers get Lazy.

    • Just do what I do Mike. Play some Bayonetta and try to forget about how fucked up the American comics industry is…for at least a moment. That’s what I am doing now. πŸ™‚

      J.

      • Mike F says:

Bayonetta nice! I’m still trying to beat Indigo Prophecy πŸ™‚

But Bayonetta is on my list of games to play before the end of 2010! Then again so is Demon’s Soul so yeah, come Winter, it’ll be a busy time for me!

        • Indigo Prophecy? Playing catch up, huh?

I have been playing Bayonetta on and off since I bought it in January. Best action game of the year. Also been playing through some of my older games while waiting for Vanquish and Rock Band 3 to ship later this month.

          J.

          • James Collinge says:

I agree with nominating Bayonetta for action game of the year. I found God of War 3 technically impressive but totally redundant in the way that it did nothing to improve on the gameplay of the previous games in the series. I say that I agree with ‘nominating’ Bayonetta only because I have a feeling that the new Castlevania is going to come out of nowhere and blow us all away.

        • Mike F says:

After the genius of Heavy Rain, it was inevitable that I’d go back and revisit Indigo at a different stage in my life, while appreciating the game more now, I can safely say its a master piece that was greatly over looked.

BAYONETTA IS NEXT! I’d also like to try OMIKRON. One that flew under my radar when I had a dreamcast (and I’ll be frank, just about every good game for that thing went under my radar)

          -__-

          • James Collinge says:

Omikron is an excellent game, but like Heavy Rain you need to give it some time before you make up your mind about it. I’d definitely recommend giving it a play through though because Quantic Dream are busy right now working on the sequel.

Also, enjoy Bayonetta – it’s so awesome that you will probably go blind in the first five minutes.

    FUCK!!!
I bought the DARK HORSE edition of GiTS thinking it had the BOAT scene, and it didn’t!!!

I just bought the same book again! >..<

    • Deemar says:

Mike glance then buy, glance then buy.

      πŸ˜‰

    • Mike F says:

It was on eBay. It was listed as the original Dark Horse edition and my research said that the original had the original content. Jesus Christ, I’m so pissed. I could of just bought the original comics then but went with this fucking choice.

      • Deemar says:

Thems the breaks, what ya pay?

        • Mike F says:

Only $10, but it was more of the expectation, I’m a die hard GHOST IN THE SHELL Fan here, and I NEED the original content, and IDK, fuck man. Ruined weekend right here.

          • Deemar says:

Hey ask J if he wants a too trade, if he doesn’t already have it.

I would myself, but I’m easing my way into Manga.

          • Insideman says:

MikeF it is the SECOND DARK HORSE GiTS EDITION that includes the Boat Scene. The first edition does not– as you know.

I made the same mistake you did and had to buy the 2nd edition again. I am also more than pissed that the Kodansha editions are not “complete” (at least in my mind).

The second edition is the 2004 printing. This scene is also included in Intron Depot Vol. 1 (as Jose told me once).

      • hackslash2020 says:

Just curious MikeF, I have Issue 1,4,5,6,7,8(and still miss 2&3) of the original 1995 run by Dark Horse. In which issue is that Boat Scene you mentioned?

  41. Deemar says:

It’s dead here, heading too Twitterverse.

    Return when it livens up.

    • Mike F says:

Yeah I got a meeting tomorrow at fucking 7 so I’ll probably be up all nite gaming, composing, and complainin about something.

Hey D, you by any chance check out the new Alan Moore comic?

  42. kurumais says:

wonder woman coming back to TV with david e kelly in charge very interesting

    • James Collinge says:

Anything that puts a mainstream spotlight on Wonder Woman is a winner in my book.

On Jose’s recommendation I picked up the trades of Greg Rucka’s run and while I enjoyed them thoroughly and thought that the books had a strong identity all of their own, all of the momentum that Greg had worked hard to build up during his run was toppled after the killing of Maxwell Lord, from that point on there was a clearly mandated (and quite jarring) switch in focus away from tying up the existing subplots in attempt to place focus on the Infinite Crisis event. To summarise I thought that Rucka had a good run and started with a lot of potential, but the alterations that Editors clearly forced upon him made for a horrible ending.

  43. James Collinge says:

Editor’s Note: I’m not at all done with Wondy, my search for the George Perez trades has officially begun!
