    Holla? 🙂

    • Mike F says:

Jose! 🙂 How’s it been bud? Any new animes catch your eyes lately? I’ve sadly been out of the game with all this studying :\

      • Not lately. I saw The Girl Who Leapt Through Time last week and it was fucking awesome.

I also saw you liked that post Elliott put up on his Geek to Me blog about female video game characters that was obviously written by a complete douchbag.

        J.

        • Mike F says:

Haha yeah, The Girl who leapt thru time is a one of my all time favorite animes. Did you see the director’s sequel-ish film “summer wars” ? It seemed kinda cool, I’m hoping they screen it at the NYAF this weekend…

Yeah, Hah, I actually didn’t agree at all with it. If ANYTHING, women have a great portrayal in games. I could name a ton of them actually

          • And so could I.

The fact that he used the term “skimpy sluts” in the article means that he probably has some serious issues with women, real of fake. So any woman who has confidence in herself and dresses provocatively (if she chooses to) is branded a slut? Does this guy even know the meaning of the term “slut”? Does Elliott? Elliott should be fucking ashamed of himself for posting that.

Also, the fact that the guy picked 2 out of his 3 “examples” from Team Ninja games is laughable. And Lara Croft a bad example of females in video games? Ya, I have never heard that before. How original.

That post was as fair and balanced as Fox News. What a fucking joke.

            J.

            • Mike F says:

Yeah I mentioned my thoughts on the article comment section. I saw EVERYONE agreeing and it bothered me, cause its just making it worse.

            • kurumais says:

i just read it seems kind of dated using lara croft and dead or alive

            • Heck says:

While I have yet to play it, I thought Bayonetta lookes pretty fucking rad and empowering. Just my two cents.

              • Mike F says:

You guys are both right. That writer used ONLY bad examples for his argument, which any English teacher will tell you, a proper paper must be even and fair, to PROVE your argument, otherwise when you avoid the other half, it basically makes you look “bias” and then no one can take your argument seriously.

There are more GOOD female leads than bad. I can spend the next 24 hours proving this, and I would love to. But, considering that was just a typical online reviewer ranting, I’ll just leave it alone…

                • It was an OPINION held by one of vVv Gaming’s members. It also happens to be an opinion held by some other female gamers who have commented on the blog. Now, I encourage anyone with a differing opinion to come on the blog and give their own. As I said on twitter, I like to have a CONVERSATION about the topic.

I am not going to shout down or censor anyone who has a differing opinion, as long as they keep it civil.

                  E.

                  • Mike F says:

I’ve officially said all I have to say on the subject. I think the writer didn’t explore the concept well enough. That’s about it.

Its ironic too, by writing an article that says how women are misrepresented in video games, he in doing so, misrepresented video games in general! hah! Fun times 🙂

                    • Great observation Mike.

You playing Bayonetta yet? I’ve been playing it (again) for the last 2 weeks. Just waiting for Vanquish and Rock Band 3 to come out.

I actually just picked up Metal Gear Acid for 5 bucks yesterday. It’s kinda difficult.

                      J.

                    • Mike F says:

I plan on buying Bayonetta after I return from NYCC.

Metal Gear Acid for 5? Nice find man! I came across Breaht of Fire III, thought I’d give it another go since its been years, hah.

                • DeemarCCW says:

I missed a good blow up.

I’m on the side of games pretty much as the last bastion of all stereotypes and exploitation.

                  • MicahSkin says:

I’d be against all form of Stereotyping, but SHEESH! This shirt is not matching my shorts and I’m having a MELTDOWN!!!!

That being said, I feel games have great female leads, but sometimes the writers get a little lazy with supporting female characters. SOMETIMES not all the time.

              • You are dead on about Bayonetta, Heck.

Here is what one of the best video game journalists around thinks of the game. It is a very insightful and interesting read.

                J.

    • Venom829 says:

Holla back at ya Mike (No Gwen Stefani pun intended, SERIOUUSLY) 😛

  2. Insideman says:

    WOW! AN OPEN THREAD!

  3. kurumais says:

i am in fan boy giddyness i am going to ny comic con and the guest list has swelled to epic proportions its like 90% of comicdom is going to be there. and i was checking out the panels some of the folks at the image and vertigo panels arent even listed under comic guests/artist alley so nick spenser jason arron rm guera mick carey will be there. its dizzying how many fols will be there
matt fraction had to cancel though the sob

    • Mike F says:

I’m excited too, but I think the Anime Fest portion has some awful guests.

Yeah Nagato from HARUHI is coming but still… I want more than that. And yes, I wish Matt was still going.

      • kurumais says:

well in there defense all the big names in anime are on the other side of the world i went to japan once for a buddy’s wedding its a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong flight
im not sure who would big up travel and accommodation fees for guests either

      • kurumais says:

mike who is your big fish this con? who is the name you want to meet the most?
i have a black cover spiderman issue signed and sketched on by john romita jr if i can get JMS to sign it too that would be cool
        other then that steve epting
        van lente and pak
        abbnett and lanning

        • Mike F says:

I’m definitely aiming for Lenil Yu. He’s my all time favorite, and I just gotta get one pic if I can. Frank miller would be nice, and of course Minori Chihara 🙂

          • kurumais says:

lenin yu should be pretty easy frank miller on the other hand

            • Mike F says:

Haha, if I can get a pic of Frank Miller, then I’ll have that memory, but I NEED Lenil’s autograph man. And I wanted to get Minori Chihara’s photo but they are saying in bold letters no photos. The hell man?

Minori Chihara IS giving a free concert tho so that’s cool

  4. kurumais says:

captain america is getting movie video game tie in from sega
what are the chances it will be any good?

  5. kurumais says:

did you the cbr piece she has no head ladies comic project? they let non comic reading women pick out a book and review it. i immediately thought of E and his worship of all things female on the bases of the femaleness. it was an interesting read. when one reader was asked whether she liked the script or art better in new avengers she picked art i thought folks would get a chuckle out of that
this was my favorite ‘finding’ in the article : another three of the six (50%) would read comics if they were around them more – if the books were more easily available to them (and possibly free – i.e. borrowed from a friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc.).

gee if someone gave out free comics would people read them hmmm

  6. TheRichestManinTown says:

I just read through all of Forgetless last night and loved it. Nick Spencer is definitely a writer I’ll be looking out for in the future. Although the first two issues of Morning Glories definitely are not as good as the first two from Forgetless.

  7. anyone looking forward to the “stan lee created” soilder zero written by paul cornell starting soon i’m going to be getting it sounds good what’s the opinions

    • kurumais says:

i am all those books look pretty decent

      • generaldark says:

i could care less. another superhero comic. just what we need. im sorry but i really want new things from comics. not just from manga

        • kurumais says:

i was in barnes and nobles a few weeks checking out their trades i dont think i have ever seen as much diversity in comics as i have now maybe there were more kiddie comics when i was a kid like casper or richie rich but probably not.
there is going to a romance novelist at nycc pushing her new graphic novel from random house yeah there were probably a few romance books out when i was a kid
dc just had a month of war comics
how many western comics came out this year?
i have seen the words “new pulp” up on comic sites describing what deemar called mixed genre books
i saw a third of those urban fantasy dark romance books are coming out you know those im in love with a vampire im in love with a werewolf im in love with a mummy books like mercy thomphson and anita blake well there is another one out like that im not sure who is buying them but somebody is or their numbers wouldnt be growing
how many horror themed books like hack&slash or locke &key are out there now? walking dead?
sword sorcery like kull conan red sonja im not sure where a book like orc stain goes
sci fi books like fear agent or electric sheep?
crime books like scalphed? jeff parker’s the hunter?

i m super hero reader when it comes to comics and these other books are just off the top of my head im sure if we looked we could find more

im baffled as to what exactly is missing from the comic rack?

and once upon a time in the golden age when everything sold in higher numbers they had all these genres before and they went the way of the dinosaur their fans/readers didnt support them super hero fans/ readers kept buying and reading

  8. Bello says:

How does everyone fell about Marc Guggenheim? I’m thinking on getting his new book at image either called Utopia or Halcyon the premise sounds really cool

    • comicbookdude says:

I’ve read his ASM stories and most of them were snoozers. He also put in some of his political views into his stories. Not that there is anything wrong with that but I just don’t want to be reminded of poloitics when I’m reading comics. Who knows maybe he’ll have a different writing style in the independent comic industry.

    • Pobra says:

i can’t think of anything i’ve read of his that i REALLY liked. I find him to be mediocre at best.

  9. Heck says:

I cannot believe I just slept through my entire day off. So lame.

    What’s everyone up too?

  10. Angelo2106 says:

  16. generaldark says:

brightest day eleve was entertaining IMO this week. dont you love how marvel put the 3.99 price on the back of the new mayberry book?

  17. TheMSpot says:

I guess everyone heard the news that Batman Beyond will be getting a ongoing-series in January.

  18. Want to read a comic with heart? Go pick up the “De: Tales” hardcover by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba. In my opinion it is now a contender for best comic of the year.

    J.

  19. kurumais says:

has anyone been to the movies lately? anyone seen social network? did you ever think the day would come where people were seriously talking about an oscar nod for justin timberlake?
i kind of afriad to go to the movies these days because nyc is have a bed bug problem and rumor has it movie seats are one of their favorite places. last thing i need is to bring them back to my place and get eaten alive night after night

  20. kurumais says:

  26. Matthew Guy (mguy1977) says:

Getting the need for a new CCW video episode.

    Matthew

  27. Mike F says:

OK, SUPERIOR looks half way decent but I honestly don’t have faith with mark anymore. Would CCW be willing to one for the team and do a review for us? At least if its bad, we can point out HOW bad it is, ha 🙂

    Still, Lenil can draw…

    http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2010/10/07/for-immediate-release-dc-comics-drops-prices-on-399-titles-moves-to-299-price-point-for-ongoing-comic-book-series/#comments

Take a look guys DC Comics is lowering $3.99 comics back to $2.99 in 2011. This is some good news since i was going to drop a few of there comics over the price hike.

    • Mr.Wrestling says:

Yes definitely great news, hopefully Marvel follows suit.

Although it seems that they are decreasing the standard comic to 20 pages instead of 22

  29. Bboyce109 says:

Look at this now Marvel is following DC with price drops

  33. kurumais says:

holy crap NYCC is HUUUUUUGE biggest show i ever been to at least 3 times the size of the 2009 show
and i think i met a bigger agents of atlas fan th4en either me or anyone here Gabriel Hardman
he was my first stop and i couldnt stop gushing about how much i loved that book well he couldnt stop either you could tell he LOOOOVED doing that book he does story boarding for hollywood in fact he did inception worked with nolan a lot so i got the impression he does this because he loves it he said he loves drawing gorilla man he was very appreciative when i called atlas the firefly of comics

i got to talked fred van lente and reilly brown and told them how much i loved herc and amadeus
they both seemed like the loved the stuff too especially rielly he was smiling the whole time we were BSing about prince of power

got to talk to abbnett and lanning another of my top books they were very cool very appreciative of my fandom

ron garney is doing an ultimate cap book due out next summer

sana takeda did a beautiful sketch of rikki barnes as bucky for me no charge

nicola scott was very cool very warm and smiley she said she loved secret six but is very excited about teen titans she said they noticed everyone on the book did 3 basic story line over and over she said they threw them out you wont see another judas contract it will be much lighter and fun

i couldn’t get any where near amanda connor she had one of the longest lines in artist alley if not the longest
her competition was fabio mon and gabriel ba they had a line and half all day

some many pros were foreigners the language barrier was tough at times but it was cool that show was so global

raphael albuquerque and his wife both look like the just started high school she had trouble with english but was very nice and he had no trouble with english and was very friendly

kevin macguire seems to attract very interesting conversations

jacob chabot loves katamari damacy and did a one page comic of it he also did a terrific skull boy sketch for me i love skull boy

the biggest line i saw today was for romance novelist diana gabaldon it was a good 2 city blocks

it was so big i didnt see half of it

    • TheMSpot says:

How about that Astonishing Captain America by Diggle, Kurumais.

      • kurumais says:

i spent all my time in artist alley tracking down and talking to people getting sketches i did even here about it till i got home im glad its just a mini
andy is a good writer he should do a good job and granov draws very pretty stuff
i dont even know where the panels take place got to find a few today

        but

Diggle’s plot involves a bit of unfinished business from Captain America’s past coming back to haunt him. Something and someone from World War II has put the 21st century in jeopardy, and Cap has to take down this old foe and avoid a deadly new weapon at the same time.

why is it super heroes only have old enemies never new ones? and you know this going to be some slapped on villain.

  34. TheMSpot says:

So Bendis and Maleev are going to work on a Moon Knight book.
