    Super Heros

Just got caught up on the new season of Smallville. Not bad. I really enjoyed the inclusion of Cat Grant and the Suicide Squad. The pay off probably won’t be as epic as I’d hope, but hey, it’s a TV show on the CW…can’t expect too much.

Darkseid seems promising. It does piss me off that after 10 years Clark is still trying to learn how to fly. Tom Welling more or less owns the role of Superman though. Toss him a good script and I think he’d kick ass.

  4. Insideman says:

I just posted 11 Hardcover and Graphic Novel reviews. Find out which one I disliked so much that now Mr. Melendez feels COMPELLED to read it:

plus autum reeser and jullie benz are very cute

  6. kurumais says:

    some nycc news
someone here complained about don kramer needing help on wonder woman when i spoke him and asked him what it was like working with JMS he said great except he sometimes sends scripts 2 weeks late leaving him 2 weeks to knock it out and don said he needs a month to get a book done
actually a month was pretty much the time most guys said it took them to do a book

i talked with cameron stewart and asked him what a morrison script looked like when you read it was insane or wacky he said no they were great but that grant writes very vague dialog to be replaced later after he has seen the art so he can tailor make the dialog to exactly what the artist drew. he loved when he saw the book and grant changed the script to something that matched his stuff perfectly but he says sometimes its so vague its tough to know exactly what he should be drawing he said that can get frustrating.

  7. kurumais says:

    the new spider girl book
spider girl wont have any super powers so its a book about a girl without SPIDER powers named SPIDER girl wearing the costume of SPIDER woman who had spider powers
to me thats like having a super girl or super boy book book with a girl/boy with no superpowers
but who is inspired to fight crime by superman
i know ted kord didnt have any super powers and took over for super powered blue beetle but he had very cool tech and was a grown man in great shape before he joined the jokey jla
    arana has a yoyo
i trying very hard to see what is interesting or fun about this concept or why my suspension of disbelief should should allow me to believe a 100lbs girl with no powers and no real training and a yo yo can fight crime.
arana had powers they took them away im not sure why. why is she better non powered?
paul tobin is a goo writer and i like clayton henry’s art so ill give it a go
    anyone else ?

  8. kurumais says:

youtubers i saw and said hello too at nycc

i might have seen ilikecomictoo but it didnt look exactly like her so i didnt say hello
you know how folks can look different in real life

btw elliot from Law and Order was there with his son just walking around

  9. kurumais says:

attention all agents of atlas and prince of power fans i highly recommend incredible hercules love and war storyline it co stars namora and introduces delphyne its also got namor and the marvel version of the amazons the namora stuff dove tails nicely into what i read in agents of atlas plus clayton henry does the art he also did some of the art in agents so she looks great and badass. she is also a big part right from the start of herc’s run when “the champions” side with hulk in world war hulk. but you dont have read all that just read love and war and enjoy a big fun action with lots of wacky fun romance and a jealous and very angry namor lol

also i never realized how strong snowbird was she had a very nice showing in the herc secret invasion storyline. the secret invasion storyline sacred wars sets up the current herc event chaos wars but its not necessary

i think pak and van lente’s herc run is the best book people around here arent reading
they make herc a major player in the marvel u and look great without diminishing anyone else. in fact they make guest stars look great too.
so many laugh out loud moments but a great action book. if you like mythology they make great use it all over this book and fit in so well with marvel continuity. and not just greco-roman myth.

  16. Mike F says:

A decent day for comics for me I must say. Grant mINdFucKS us with Batman (again…) but overall I liked the setting. Thor was fun, and I must say, IronMan wasn’t bad either.

  17. sai011 says:

Still need to get my comics. Thats the only badthing with image, I never know when comics are coming out.

  18. megamanx4ever says:

one of the most badass fights in any anime I have seen.

  19. Venom829 says:

Any iron raising moments in this weeks comics that need to be ripped to shreads?

    • Mike F says:

SHADOWLAND needs to be buried. Even SIEGE has SOME good moments…

      • Venom829 says:

YIKES! When SIEGE has something on an event taht is NOT Bendis-written, that sounds REALLY BAD!

        • Mike F says:

lol I know. SIEGE was bad, but I distinctly remember issue 2 being SOMEWHAT decent. So far, SHADOWLAND has been the biggest let down of 2010 for me.

I’m a New Yorker, so the idea of ‘battlin for the soul of NY’ comic seemed very epic to me, but its been NOTHING like I wanted it to be. I wanted some street action, some teams, leads, something, anything! But its been such crap that I’m just threw with it.

          • Heck says:

It should have been Daredevil handing the Avengers their fucking ass. The Hand lead by Matt Murdock would own Bendis’s team any day.

            • Mike F says:

Seriously! Instead its just them all sitting around, (like the Bendis-Avengers) talking about Murdock, while Kingpin does some ancient magic thing, and UGHH such a missed opportunity Andy Diggle…

      • Pobra says:

Shadowland is fucking BRUTAL… Diggle’s script is actually just as bad as Tan’s art. what a shitty book. Very disappointing indeed.

  20. Bello says:

not gonna lie I have a bit of a fatal attraction thing going on right now with this chick who goes to the gym I work at shit is the worst .

  21. Heck says:

I just spent $50 bucks on a date and $30 on the next for the gal to tell me that she can’t see us long term. Translation, I’m not wealthy like she is.

  22. Let’s change it up a bit.

    J.

  27. Pobra says:

Jose, you get around to picking up that City and Colour album yet? 🙂

  28. kurumais says:

anyone know what this is from? my buddy sent it to me we havent a clue is it a marvel alliance cut scene? thanks

  29. kurumais says:

at the marvel next big thing panel arun whats his name in charge marketing started the panel off with “if you havent sign up for marvel’s digital service upstairs make sure you do blah blah blah” so that turned me off right away honestly i felt like 90 % of the panel was more of sales pitch for the books then talking about the books. jason aaron seemed to be the only actually speaking about his book instead of selling it. a lot of people got up and left. it was packed it the panel started but as it went on more and more poeple got up and left and i think the only thing that made the rest stay was the free iphone/itouch marvel cover thingie they gave out at the end.
jeph loab took a shot at dcs 20 page books during the thing. arun was talking one of dan slots spideys scripts and said he got to that last page and was blown away. so loeb chimed in and said was that 20 page book or 22 page book? because if it a 22 page book another company would be missing the big wow moment or something to that effect. it was real cheap. a lot of folks got up and left

most of what they said was on the net already before weekend but this was news to me scorpion wont be venom much longer he will go back to being scorpion and they way they made it sound the symbiot wasnt going to join up with anyone. they kept saying were the symbiot will end up going they never used the term who would end up with the symbiot.

after that it was Q&A with most ppl just asking bendis fot spoilers

  30. TheMSpot says:

Rest In Peace “Young Allies” for me you will not be missed.

  31. kurumais says:

if you want to see a cool comic culture statue collection check out averone007 on youtube
the guy’s collection is insane he gets custom pieces he has a half size hulk lol

  32. kurumais says:

the new NON super powered spider girl will be taking on the red hulk …. i am speachless

  33. Dre says:

The following video reminded me of the marriage discussion you guyes were having earlier, thus I thought I’d share it here since some may find it interesting and it’s actually somewhat comic related if only tangentially at best. At NYCC this year was a proposal and an acceptance to a round of applause and cheers as two become one, presumably for ever and ever and ever, ‘tll death due they part and all that unrealistic nonsense since humans aren’t a species made for enternal union (I guess you can guess where I stand on the marriage thing now, huh?). In any case, here’s a vid many of you have said you’ll likely never do. It’s always titillating to see a proposal in real life. It has more punch and potential for unmitigated embarrassment/disaster if “No” is the answer given. Whoops! More rambling! Vid below. Before that, though, here’s a question: would any of yous ever propos in a public venue populated by thousands of onlookers?

    • ed2962 says:

I’m curious as to what the girl’s mom thinks of this. Like, is she cool with the environment? Or does she think “Humpf! Some son-in-law! Couldn’t take my daughter to Paris or Niagra Falls to propose…he took her to the Superfriend’s hang out!”

    • DeemarCCW says:

Either Steve Rogers really let himself go while Bucky took over or Marvel is really trying to push Captain Samoa.

      Proposal is nice too. 🙂

    • Morlock50 says:

I proposed to my wife on a bench in a local park near our home. The moment had much more significance to both of us then if I did it on top of the Empire State Building or at a Knicks game. Not to be cynical or anything, but I’m a little suspicious of these public proposals. It’s like, who invited you to invite me into your private moment, anyways?

  34. Mike F says:

Anyone read 18 days by Grant Morrison?

  35. DeemarCCW says:

Heres a beat for that ass J

    Bussa Bust!

  36. Mike F says:

Paul Cornell said on Twitter today that he saw a site with over 2000 links to illegally download KNIGHT AND SQUIRE and he said it made him outraged, and I quote “BLOODY THIEVES”

    • Heck says:

I must admit, stuff like that does make me real upset. I like to value myself as a writer, and if people were stealing my hard work for free I’d be pissed. I hate to sound like the old school guy, but it’s just not cool.

That said, comics shouldn’t be $3.99. I’m looking at you Joey Q.

    • Mike F says:

I agree with you Heck. The reason people steal comics these days are because the prices always change. I mean 2 MARVEL comics are $8 when I can get a Manga at Borders (coupon) for that price and its a lot longer and in most cases (more interesting)

Its a shame people steal but, they don’t steal because they wanna, usually there’s a reason behind everything.

I’m just a purist…. sadly…. I have to own the things I love. Every expensive anime import, every original uncut video game, every comic… ughh

      • Heck says:

Exactly. I mean we all like our entertainment. Times being how they are, we might never be able to afford them. Still, people neglect the fact that people work hard for that entertainment and that it isn’t a given.

The reason comics were SO popular back in the Great Depression was because they were cheap, disposable entertainment. I just can’t see paying $8 for two floppys.

I too am a purist. I binge on old books. Whenever I run across a used book store, where I can spend 10 bucks and get 10 books, I go nuts. That’s my vice. I still buy CDs and vinyls cause I like to have the actual album. I’m old school that way, and honestly I don’t mind it.

    • Deemar says:

I had a funny joke for that, but I’m too spent

Any new CCW youtube videos coming soon?

    Matthew

  39. Hey guys! What’s up? Sorry I’ve been absent here on the blog. I’ve been fairy busy with school and my Grandma’s funeral and other various little things, but it looks ike I’l be having some free time coming up soon. I have a much needed 5-day weekend next week! 🙂

    Things I’ve read recently:

    – JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice. It’s a fun superhero team team-up book. Pacheco’s art is great. Some of his best work if you ask me.

    – Bleach. On volume 6 right now. I love Bleach. It’s a very rich world with very 3-dimensional characters and good humor and awesome fight scenes and one-liners. Oh, and the monster drawings are very cool.

I’m going to a comic convention tomorrow so I can’t stay up too late tonight, but I’ll be updating my twitter account at the convention! Follow me: http://twitter.com/comicbookdude89

That’s all! Have a great weekend everyone!

  40. Mike F says:

I heard that with the DC prices lowered there will be more ads, anyone else hear about that?

  41. Mike F says:

Guys I am at a tough call here. I’ve been wanting to read DMZ for a while now, and with 53 coming out next week, I decided the time is here, BUT I need your advice guys…

Should I just go for Trade’s or try to get the back issues? Is it a series worth collecting in whole from issue or decent enough to carry around thru trade?

  42. Matthew Guy (mguy1977) says:

    Yeah!!!!

A NEW CCW youtube last rants pt 1 on Bendis & comics writers/journalism.

I gave Bendis Avengers #1 a shot but it was the same ol’ same ol’ w/ JRJR blocky artwork on faces that do nothing for me. I got burned out on Powers because on the delays between issues. I read Ult. Spider-Man in HC (12 or 13 issue chunks).

I do like the snarky reviews that you put on Bendis & Loeb but I do enjoy the serious reviews of manga, indie & hidden gems from DC & Marvel. I have no interest right now to try Scarlet because I feel it will be a “flash in the pan” 5 or 6 issues & move on to something different like same bleeping Moon Knight. Really Bendis MOON KNIGHT!!! UGH!

So in closing thanks for your many reviews on comics because it opens my eyes to new stuff like Blankets, Scalped, DC Elseworlds from Alan Davis, & Monster manga.

    CCW is the awesome sauce!

    Matthew

    • Morlock50 says:

Yeah, I gave Scarlet 2 issues and dropped it. Artwork was lovely but there was nothing compeling enough for me to keep it on my pull list. Bendis doesn’t really stack up to repeated readings for me. Not even his “good stuff” like Alias.
