Who’s Getting What This Week?

Posted: October 18, 2010 in DC Comics, Image, Marvel

Looks like some decent comics are coming out this week and it’s about fucking time. Though Shadowland has been absolutely shitastic Daredevil has not been and I find that very odd since the same writer is doing both. The big book for me this week is Morning Glories #3 and if you didn’t already know that you really haven’t been paying attention. Anyway, here’s what I am buying on Wednesday:

Batman Beyond #5
Daredevil #511
Guarding the Globe #2
Morning Glories #3
Power Girl #17
X-Factor #210

This week sees the end of me buying 53 issues in a row of Green Lantern Corps. I love that book to death but DC has decided to put an ex-Top Cow house style hack on art chores and that is just too much for me to handle since I hate that fucking art style. Goodbye Green Lantern Corps, you were a good friend all these years. Maybe I’ll pick you up again when there is a fill in artist. I will miss you.

So, what are you all buying this week?

  1. Mike F says:

An insane week for me, GANTZ hopefully, and EDEN OF THE EAST on Blu ray so that cuts my comics down to about DAREDEVIL and maybe BATMAN and ROBIN.

And of course, the greatest comic in the world!

  2. kurumais says:

    Steve rogers super soldier
    Chaos war 2
    Batman and robin
    Soldier zero

  3. Bello says:

Hey what’s up guy’s? This week I’ll be getting:
    Batman and Robin 15
    Ultimate Comics Spider-Man 12-13
    Walking Dead 78

Pretty solid week this week I’m really excited for all of these books it’s going to be tough to decide on a book of the week.

I’ve been catching up on Ultimate spider-man and they mentioned Ultimatum a lot in the first few issues decided to download the issues of the mini-series and god damn was that book a piece of fucking shit. Not only was it bad, but it was offensive not a single character in that book acted heroically and no character acted like themselves. The violence of the book was grotesque and it’s unbelievable that Marvel put that book on the shelves knowing that it destroys so many books within the Ultimate Comics world. Granted I’ve never read the first series of Spider-man I read a good portion of Ultimate X-men (book was fantastic) and it’s crazy to think that Marvel let Loeb destroy these characters that people had grown to love.

  9. sai011 says:

I am getting batman beyond#5, haunt#10, and probaly kickass2 #1 (the movie sucked).

    • Bello says:

If the movie sucked then the book must’ve been a huge piece of shit…oh wait it was lol

      • kurumais says:

i thought the movie was ok i laughed quite a bit

        • Bello says:

I agree with you on the movie I really enjoyed actually bought it the day it came out on DVD

        • sai011 says:

Looks like you didnt read the comic! or That you see it in different way.

          • Bello says:

I did read the comic I felt that the whole thing with the girl Kick ass liked (don’t remember her name) was handled poorly in the book. Like I really want to read in a comic book that a chick texts a guy her giving another guy a blowjob Mark Millar can write a concept, but he can’t write a whole series that’s why I felt the movie was better it was more than a concept plus how can you not love Nic Cage in that movie.

      • sai011 says:

They both were but the movie was the worst of the two. I am one of those people who dont like comic book movies because they never follow the comic and keep things the same as it is. For example in the movie, kick ass never got the girl, Got his balls electricfied, he wasnt blonde. So your telling me that it was hard for them to do all that stuff.

  10. TheMSpot says:

    Batman Beyond #5
    Batman and Robin #15
I will get Morning Glories #3 if I can find #1 and #2.

    Guarding the Globe #2

  11. IronMuskrat says:

    Interesting week for me..

Power Girl #17($2.99)- Got the first trade on a whim and was surprised by what a fun and exciting book book this was. So I think I will be jumping on the bandwagon this week.

Turf #3($2.99)- I completely forgot about his book, but I do remember liking it, hey, this close to Halloween how can you go wrong with Gangsters, Vampires and Alien criminals battling in 1920’s New York.

Image Firsts: Mage #1($1.00)- I still have this mini-series from back in the 80’s when it was put out by Comico. This was probably my favorite comic as a kid, for a lot of reason I won’t get into right now and for a dollar it will be worth getting the first issue again.

Guarding the Globe #2($3.50)- Hummm, I like the first issue, but $3.50? Your toying with me Image, but I will let it slide this time.

PunisherMax Tiny Ugly World #1($4.99)- For $4.99 I am not sold on this one yet. I will look to see what exactly why Marvel thinks they can sell this book for so much, and if I agree that it’s worth the extra money I will get it.

Books I won’t be getting this week because of the price…

Hulk #26($3.99)- I love Jeff Parker, but I won’t be getting this book until the price goes down to $2.99.

I will also be picking up the Red Box Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set($20). As much as I love RPG’s and D&D, I swore off any new stuff from those greedy bastards running TSR now. How many times can you make people pay for the same set of rule books over and over again. But I love the old school box and for $20 I am willing to see what the 4th edition rules are looking like.

  12. Zorba_of_the_Morningstar says:

    Turf #3 YAY!!!
Sixth Gun #5 (I haven’t read #2 yet. I just dug up #1 So I will read them and most likely order 3-5
Morning Glories #3 (also getting 1,2 reprints)
Doctor Solar Man of the Atom #3 Only got #1, not sure my store didn’t pick up #2 for me.

PunisherMax Tiny Ugly World #1 Gem of the week! $5, but DL said its 32 pages of story. The Art looks good too.

Daredevil #511 I wonder how much the Co-Writer on DD helps keep the issues focused. The story is still forced and hollow, but the DD issues are well told and actually show the tension on the street. + De La Torre is BACK! Sadley this series was an underwhelming showcase for his talent, same as T-Bolts disjointed/ abandoned run.

Chaos War #2 Tom Palmers inks help Pham a lot.
Hellblazer #272 Shaping up to be one of my favorite John C runs. The Bisley covers and fill-in issues are just a bonus the the great art. Milligan has found something original and fitting for the character to do. To go. I get the feeling the M is an old salty dog of a writer and just has a natural flow with how to write him. Not like other writers that I’ve seen try to play John too bad-ass. Like the writer is trying to prove themselves tough or something (Azz)Plus The Shade is a FABULOUS character for DC to bring back into the fold.

    • Zorba_of_the_Morningstar says:

I forgot Batman & Robin 13-15. Ending my Batman buying. Mostly, still getting the rest of Streets till the end of Hush. maybe I’ll get Detective again.

-Turf#3 (It’s about time! You’re not reading this anymore J?)

-Kick-Ass 2#1 (I’m getting this just to check it out and because I want to do something for my blog relating to this book. Yeah, I know… Boo-urns! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

I might get something else too. I would get Morning Glories but I don’t want my dad or myself to go through the hassle of looking for the book. Thanks speculators… you really make collecting fun… just kidding.

    • Zorba_of_the_Morningstar says:

Why not just have your store get latter prints of one and two?

    • Insideman says:

Again CBD– the monthly Previews is a hedge against “speculators”. Order in advance and you should be guaranteed a copy of whatever you want.

But if you miss a book– like Morning Glories– you shouldn’t feel so bad about it for so long– especially still feeling bad after 3 months. We have all “missed” books. It’s part of collecting.

If you really want to read it– why aren’t you buying copies of the additional printings?

Buy the reprints or wait for the trade… Believe me when I tell you… If you keep collecting and this is the ONLY book you “miss” by not ordering it in advance… You will be the luckiest comic collector ever. As the years roll by, there will be several “Wish I had ordered that in advance” moments.

Also– if it makes you feel any better, I seriously doubt that there are many people/speculators making a windfall off of Morning Glories. That book took almost everyone by surprise… And it is NOT the kind of book that speculators would spark to IN ADVANCE.

Retailers get wind of a sell out like this super quick (especially in the digital age). And all it really takes is one stranger walking into their store and asking for all their copies of a certain book… But that doesn’t mean the retailer can get more copies. Once a book sells out (especially nowadays)–it’s gone.

Savvy retailers decline the offer to sell all of their copies to one person– and then piece out the remaining copies to their regular customers who are genuinely interested in the title.

  25. Insideman says:

17 ADDITIONAL Hardcovers, Graphic Novels and Manga shipped this week!

Check out the new arrivals here: http://wp.me/pZr1Y-1q8

There’s a lot of quality stuff in there.

That turns a light week into an insanely heavy week for me. These releases are planned months in advance– then confirmed again weeks in advance… But the distributor release an accurate list every week?

    Lame to the 10th Power.

  26. Heck says:

Lemme know how Stan Lee’s (really Paul Cornell’s) Soldier Zero is!

  27. DidioForever says:

I would like to announce directly to J and Elliot that this week, I picked up a bunch of recent reprints for new, non-superhero related titles

…And after much deliberation I’ve taken Amazing Spiderman off my pull list and replaced it with Morning Glories

(I’m now down to 0 Marvel titles and about 5 remaining DC titles, with Flash being the only remaining Geoff Johns book in there)

So I’d like to thank you two for helping me take this big step regarding my addiction to spandex fetishism and continuity porn, It couldn’t have happened without you!
