Cool seeing a George Perez Wonder Woman pic again.
tho its horrible for a #600 cover.
Why?
Why indeed. I’ll take a Perez Wonder Women cover over most of the hacks that DC employee right now. Maybe he would rather have a David Finch cover?
*shiver* and *vomit*
J.
What’s wrong with David Finch? He’s one of the few modern artists I like.
http://www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album.php?aid=24492
Look at that attention to detail in Colossus. You can see the reflection of the other characters in his armor. That’s neat.
What’s wrong with Finch? From a technical standpoint nothing. He has a very good grasp of anatomy and the such. I just don’t give a shit abut his school of Top Cow style.
If I wanted attention to detail in an artist I have Geof Darrow for that and he can run fucking circles around Finch.
J.
Fair enough. I still like him.
Amen!
Plus everyone Finch draws looks like they just sucked on a lemon.
Geof Darrow whatever happened to that guy? I only have two comics with his art in them.
He’s doing covers for Marvel. Has been for a couple of months. When you are at the shop tomorrow check out the cover to the new issue Marvel Zombies 5.
J.
I’ll be sure to do that.
Spotty you live near Dreamland?
No where near it do you?
ATL
Jor-Jaw!
Good question
His art is labor intensive so that might be why his output is low, unlike Steve McNiven and Bryan Hitch they have no excuse.
Agreed.
I met Geof Darrow years ago at the old Chicago Comicon. I asked him to sign 2 issues of Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot. Not only did he sign them but he did a head sketch in each of them. One of the sketches he did was of a T-Rex head. It is awesome. 🙂
J.
I got my Hard Boiled signed at a SDCC back in the day.
Those two comics were the two issues of Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot. In all there over-sized glory. Probably the only recent Miller book that I have enjoyed. Yes, that damn long.
Ever read Hard Boiled? Written by Frank Miller (when he was good) and drawn by Darrow.
J.
Sadly, no, I’ve been meaning to. There is a copy of the trade at my LCS, but I was hoping to come across the edition with just Darrow’s art and no Miller word balloons or dialog box’s.
Also, have you ever read Darrow’s Shaolin Cowboy?
I liked Shaolin Cowboy. It just kinda ended right? As in, stopped publishing it.
J.
I was annoyed by that, I was digging that book.
Yeah, pretty much, but the few issues that were published were great.
Have you seen Raphael Grampa’s work? It’s phenomenal, reminiscent of Paul Pope.
http://supervillain.wordpress.com/2009/05/23/rafael-grampas-batman-and-robin/
He is the shit!
Whatever hppened to Furry Water from Dark Horse?
Wow, that’s sweet.
Check this out.
Usually ships ONE to FOUR MONTHS!!!
J.
Whoa….that is fucking awesome!
J.
Funny you should bring that up, is it me or has Marvel cornered the market on good artists?
Aside from Doug Manhke and Ivan Reis DC’s roster of artists is pretty weak.
I don’t count guys like Finch, Van sciver and Quitely, because well they can barely crank out 5 issues a year.
From a technical stand point I think the face seems rushed but the rendering of the hair is awesome.
If Perez had one knock throughout his career, it’s that he never did faces as well as he did everything else.
Costumes, he’s horrendously bad at those.
Same with JrJr dude has zero design sense.
Both Epic artists with little too no style clothing-wise
Perhaps they should study Jean Paul Gaultier HAHA.
You joke, but they need to at least consult P. Diddy or better yet Olivier Coipel now that guy knows how to design/redesign characters.
Every new character JrJr in particular has created himself has been lacking in visual appeal. Which confuses me, he can draw a mean Thor, Hulk, Spidey hell anything that already has a established look. Yet let him come up with something of his own devices its pretty damn lame.
Seriously, I wonder if he ever looks at what people are wearing today?
I doubt it.
Romita seems more concerned with chuggin out pages than design elements. Which I respect his speed and work ethic, but damn! dude is seriously stuck in the 80s.
I wonder how he dresses in his personal life? He still rocks the “John Travolta Saturday Night Fever” haircut from interviews I’ve seen.
Someone who is stuck in the 80’s is Chris Claremont. He he
Heh!
Spotty Claremont is riding on former glory like a 40yr old former jock clinging to his Varsity jacket for dear life
Oh I dissagree on the faces with Perez. If anything he’s one of the few guys who draws characters with distinct facial features.
His Thor has a broad face with a slightly upturned nose, three characters that most artists would mistakingly draw looking the same without a mask on (Cap,Pym and Hawkeye) Perez gives each a unique look sans masks, Cap square jawed with a buzzcut, Clint’s face drawn by Perez is long&slender and Pym he draws older looking.
Perez knows faces
Kinda like Bo knows baseball? 🙂
J.
Ha!
Bo don’t know comics like we do.
…and would mock us for it
I miss Kent Williams and Jon J Muth doing comics. They didn’t leave a large body of work in comics but they definitely left an impression on me.
Williams
Muth
why? because its such a boring cover for a anniversary title. itd be nice to maby see action or something more then just WW throwing the lasso at you. i’ll admit batman 700 was kinda the same but it had a better vibe to it then this. the superman cover felt out of place too..
Batman taking a angry shit on a gargoyle had a better vibe?
J.
🙂
Angry shit on a gargoyle is how I would describe the Batman book ever since Tony Daniel took it over.
